Thunderstorm.

I liked the start of the day anyway.

It was already less thick when we got out, I couldn't see this road at all when O woke up :-)

Yesterday was a horrible day at work, I don’t know how it was outside though. It might have been rather wonderful since the day was so warm but it was also mostly cloudy they said. I had the big luck to hand paint all day so the already hot factory was even for me since the air from the oven hit me all day. I don’t know how much water I drank but it was too little. The big problem is that what goes in must go out too 🙂

I woke up to a very foggy morning today, it was so thick that I couldn’t see my neighbors cottage and it is just 20 meters (much the same in yards) away 🙂 I hurried out with the dogs because as soon as the sun started to warm up the already warm air the fog thinned. We were able to enjoy it all through our walk though. It doesn’t happen often but today even the forest were  full of fog.

I went home a bit early today because thunder arrived and the lights were blinking at work. It hit somewhere in the village where I work and was moving eastwards so I figured it would arrive here at home before me if I stayed until my working day ended. It hasn’t arrived yet because it moved very slowly. I have heard it in the distance and the site Real Time Lightning Map (click on the red text and a new window showing the site will pop up, it works all over the world) shows that the thunder is just north of where I live.

The day has so far been rather lovely, sunny and rather warm with a cool breeze. I can however see the cold front coming and it begins with thunder clouds. We were out walking when I heard the first rumbling sounds. We didn’t hurry home though because at that moment the sky still was almost clear blue.

I had hopes of mowing the lawn today but the rumbling sounds grew bigger and the thunderclouds too so I think I’ll skip that today. There’s something with thunder and electric lawn mowers that sort of don’t go together if You understand how I mean 🙂 The thunderstorm doesn’t move fast though so I will have an hour or two more before it moves in to my neighborhood. It might even miss us totally, the mountain has a tendency to get the thunder instead.

I now have a rubber tube in the air leaking tire. It turned out to be the rim that wasn’t good enough. We could see small bubbles when we (well it sounds as if I actually did something, it was the garage owner of course :-)) put the tire in water. I do hope that the rest of the tires stay filled with air now, I am a bit tired to have to fill them up twice a week 🙂

My car is leaking a bit too much oil now, not on the ground but inside the motor. So I asked the garage owner if he possibly had another car for sale at the moment. Ok it is no panic to change car, I really like this one but it is no use in repairing it any longer. He didn’t have any right now but he will keep his eyes open, preferable a SAAB but I’m not picky. It would however be nice to not have to buy new rims every time I buy a new car 🙂

We have thunder clouds hanging around today again but still no thunder. It was a pretty nice day before they arrived, lots of sunshine and rather warm but now it’s mostly cloudy and rather chilly. It’s just beneath 13C (55,4F) and the air has the feeling of a just passed thunderstorm but no thunderstorm has passed, very odd!

I still haven’t been able to see any of the photos I mailed to be developed last week and that’s a bit odd too. They are usually very fast in developing the films, so now I’m starting to wonder if something has happened to the film rolls. I’ll mail them if nothing turns up later today. I really would like to get these rolls developed because I have plenty of photos taken outside this village and I would like to see if I managed to stop the light leaks in the old Rolleicord.

It’s never wrong to tell people that one think they are doing a very good job, that happens too seldom in my opinion.

I can hear thunder, it isn’t especially close yet according to the real time lightning map site and it looks like it will pass south to us but one never knows with thunder. I’m not surprised it has come, today is warm and humid and it did rain some earlier today. The Eurovision Song Contest is this week and the first semi final was on Tuesday. I can’t say I was impressed by any song. Today is the second semi final and our song will compete for a place in the big finale. They have very strict rules to how long the song is allowed to be, 3 minutes, so there is a special sound to this music that doesn’t exist outside the Eurovision. There are so many countries that wants to participate that they need to have semi finals 🙂 I think there is 26 songs in the big finale on Saturday. Five countries don’t need to go through the semi finals because they pay so much to the European broadcasting system (or what it might be called) and this year we have Australia in the competition too 🙂

The Australians are invited to participate because the Eurovision has its 60th? birthday this year and the Eurovision contest is extremely popular in Australia. I can’t say I like our song especially much but it was still way much better than the other crap that participated in our competition 🙂 It is however the big favourite and most Europeans believe it will win the entire thing. Russia is also popular so if the Russians don’t invade another country before Saturday it might win too. One never knows about the Russians though, if the country is small and with a weak army they might invade it and risk not winning the Eurovision even if they take this competition even more seriously than us Swedes 🙂

I was so tired when I went up this morning, it felt like I hadn’t slept at all. My nose is a bit stuffed and my throat feels a bit sour so I guess a cold is slowly taking control of my body. But off to work I went and everything was working as normal and I was just waiting for material to arrive to the paintbox when the power died. It only lasted for a minute or so but I had to restart everything again. But the paintbox brain had decided to change painting program so the paint guns collided withe the material 🙂 luckily enough nothing broke, a paint gun costs around 33000 Swedish kronor, that would be around 5077 Us dollars 🙂 We started working again when we had a tiny power break again and naturally I had to restart everything again.

We did look outside and the weather was reasonable fine and no thunder what we could see or hear of. So everything went on as it should and suddenly everything went black. It’s amazing how one power pole can take away the power from an entire county 🙂 The lightning also hit the telephone masts that controls the mobile internet so many didn’t have any connection to the internet for a very long time 🙂 It also hit our computer system at work and they were still working on that when I went home from work this evening. The thunder never even came close to home though, I live very close to the county where my job is, just 200 meters (much the same in yards) but get my power from another place 🙂

Well, that was a surprise.

DSC_0036

We had one of the worst thunderstorms that I can remember the night towards yesterday. It wasn’t the lightning that was worst, even though we had plenty of that too, it was the rain. But it was the rumble that woke us all up in the middle of the night and most of us couldn’t fall asleep again so we were all a bit tired at work yesterday and today too to be honest. I had two rather big trembling dogs that tried to hide behind me and two smaller that got a bit jealous when the big ones were allowed in the sofa (no dogs in my sofa normally) so they too wanted to stay there.

I can understand how Noa felt when the big flood started because it was something like that here too 🙂 I’m surprised the little road outside my home still is there and in such good condition because it wasn’t a little road that night, it was a river 🙂 I had big lakes in my garden and that’s unusual since there’s only sand beneath the grass. I went down twice in my cellar because I was sure the water would go down there but luckily it didn’t. I texted to work that I most likely would be late because there was no chance to get Orvar and Hector to the dog yard as long as the thunder continued and I wouldn’t even have tried since I know how afraid they are.

The rain was still pouring down when I drove away to work and the wiper blades on my car worked on highest speed. I passed the river Lidan and it was no longer a calm sort of sleeping river, now it roared and for once it actually looked alive 🙂 But that was nothing really. Before I enter the village where I work I must drive over a tiny creek, much the same size as the one I usually show photos of here. It had almost reached the bridge I drove on and that is around two meter (much the same in yards) higher than normal. This village is on a big area called the Vastgota plains and it is absolutely flat for miles and miles in all direction so if this little creek wood go any higher the entire village would be in trouble. It did get higher.

This is a glimpse of how it must have looked some centuries ago when this was a shallow lake.

DSC_0010

DSC_0011

Almost the entire village was covered in up to half a meter (the same in yards) of water just after I had reached my work place. My work place however is slightly higher than that but even there water poured in since the drains outside started to spraying up water instead of swallowing it. A rather new hotel and restaurant with a bowling alley in the basement got flooded and they think it will take at least fout´r months until the bowling ally can open again. I have no idea how the grocery store managed through this but I guess they too got flooded.

DSC_0004

The entire neighbor factory where I paint some times was covered in 30cm (12 inches of water and they had to send home most of their employees and they were closed today so they could clean up. Almost the only place that didn’t get flooded in that factory is my paintbox 🙂 A few more drops and that too had been drowned 🙂  So what happened here in the village at the outskirts of the world? Not much thankfully but the bog now looks a bit like the lake it once was and every single little ditch now are more filled than they ever have been before 🙂 It rained quite a lot today as well but most of it fell over the bog and not here, lots in the village where I live though. Today they have even bigger problems further north, a semi big dam broke and the water filled a city close to it.

I think I’ve made too little dinner for this week. I always make enough for one week when I eat dinner at work and this time it looks like I won’t have enough for Thursday as well (I stop working so early on Fridays that I don’t eat any dinner there). This week it was lamb, something we call lammskav and I just couldn’t find the right english word for it without making it sound like an injury 🙂 I think it’s minced lamb or very thin slices of lamb and they are frozen in a block. It should just have defrosted half way when one is about to cook it. I then break pieces out of this block and while frying it it divides into small slices if You can understand how I mean, looks like bigger or smaller flakes.

Those flakes really suck up the spices and I usually fry lots of vegetables and mushrooms too and at the end I make a stew of it. Goes perfect with rice, potatoes or pasta. Next week I think I’ll have moose made in much the same way. It’s the lazy mans way of making real food but very fast :-)It’s time to make a pot of tea and something to eat as well.

Na-nu Na-nu my friends. The world is now a sadder place.

A good end to the working week.

Finally, a day that worked without any problems! Ok, we were only three people in a department that needs at least six people to work properly but anyway 🙂 We did get one extra after a while so things went smoothly since nothing broke down 🙂 So the work day were actually quite nice and it did help a lot that we in the painting department only work half day on Fridays 🙂

I had to pay for three months on the old-fashioned telephone now when I stopped the subscription even though they knew I only had to pay for one month. They always do like that and then they send a giro so I can take out that extra money in the bank, minus their huge fee. I always get so angry when they do like that! But now days it turns out that I also can pay with that giro in any store! The fee in the store is much, much less than that what the bank takes so one would be an idiot not to do it and since I’m not an idiot I paid with it when I was in the grocery store on my way home today 🙂

Still, I think it is wrong that companies can do like that and I think it is even more wrong that banks can take any fee they like whenever they like to do so. But they can because here in Sweden we have what they call an oligopoly when it comes to banks. We have just a few huge banks so there’s no competition between them at all. They have more or less the same fees on everything, actually almost everything is just the same between them. They don’t have to start illegal cartels and discuss behind our backs, they just see what the other banks are doing and do te same themselves. Since there are no alternatives we’re stuck with them I’m afraid.

We had thunder here earlier but we managed to take a short walk before it started. We also met my neighbors who has been away on vacation while their bathroom was renovated. They rent the cottage from the castle and thought everything would be ok now when they came home, the renovation started more than two weeks ago so it really should be no problems. But to their big surprise it shows that they still have no toilet or shower! Well that have the hole in the ground where the toilet should be standing and as I said to them, just try to aim really good and there should be nor problems using it 🙂 🙂 🙂 I do feel sorry for them, it’s not easy living without a toilet. But I also said that they should see the opportunities in this, this could be the perfect time to start fertilizing their vegetable garden 🙂 🙂 🙂 Yes I could behave like that because I fed their cats while they were away 🙂

I now understand why I hear the Shrikes all day long in my garden, they nest in my care tree, the Rowan 🙂 For those of You that don’t know what a care tree is, it’s an old tradition going way back since the pagan days. A care tree is usually an Ash tree and sometimes a Rowan (further north in this country) and it is planted the day the house is built (or in many cases when a new owner comes along or if the old tree happens to die. The tree is planted for the spirits of ancestors or for a wight. The tree must after that never be harmed in any way or the ancestors spirits or the Wight will punish the person very hard.

If there already grows an Ash tree on the property it most likely is the home of the Ash lady (or Ash wife), a nasty being that hates humans. But she does stay calm as long as one sacrifice water to the tree every spring. She will also punish or kill any person that harms the tree. But unlike the ancestors spirits or the Wight she dies when the tree does, the other can just move to another tree if they have to.

It’s time for a pot of tea and something to eat. I had a short nap when the thunder passed but I feel it wouldn’t be wrong to have another short one 🙂 But with my luck I’ll most likely sleep all evening and wake up in the middle of the night not being able to fall asleep again 🙂

I can’t say I long for when mornings get darker and colder but I can say I did it this morning when the dogs thought it would be a good idea to get up just before 4am 🙂 The early morning was quite warm and very foggy so out we went for a walk. First however I walked to a neighbor’s house to feed the cats while they are away for a few days. The short walk was rather nice and even if it was warm there were no flies around to annoy me. No sight of any cats though, they are out hunting most of the time, just like my cats are this time of year.

This mornings fog was very unlike the ones we’ve had so far this summer, it was really thick and showed no signs of giving up even after the sun had risen quite high. This was more of an autumn fog and it did stay for several hours. It didn’t go away until the thunder came. We followed its way via the site that shows the lightnings and I looked out just as one big flash hit the lake here in the bog. Poor Hector, he must have been so afraid. He must have stayed in the dog house almost the entire day because he wasn’t wet at all even if it had rained a big part of the day. Well to be honest, all the other dogs were dry too so the dog house must have been rather crowded. It’s big and I can fit in there without any problems but even so, my dogs are rather big 🙂

It wasn’t that bad to go to work but that was most likely because I didn’t know that this would be a crappy day production wise 🙂 Old equipment should never stand still for more than a weekend or so, if they do they tend to break. It’s annoying as it is but it’s even worse when one doesn’t understand it until it is way too late. It didn’t help that every time the lightning hit so we lost power, if so only for a second, we had to restart everything again 🙂 It doesn’t take a lot of time to be honest but all buttons that needs to be pushed are naturally placed far away from each other 🙂

It is much cooler now but the humidity is so high that it’s nasty outside. We shouldn’t get any more thunder but one never knows. So now I’ll make myself a pot of tea and something to eat. I could have granola, easy to just pour some milk but then again, I did buy tomatoes and I do have paprikas at home. Perhaps a sandwich with cheese, ham, a slice of tomato and a slice of paprika would be a nicer alternative 🙂

Thor seems to be upset today.

After the first round with thunder.

After the first round with thunder.

We’re having a thunderstorm here right now and it’s somewhere between fierce and half furious 🙂 To be honest there aren’t that many lightnings but those that are, are both huge and sounds a lot. My sister gave me a link that shows lightning more or less when it happens and where too: Real time Lightning Map (just click on the red text and a new window should open up). I do think however it only shows those hitting the ground and not the ones that goes between clouds because we had a gigantic one passing over the entire sky but nothing showed on the map. My little cottage trembled like Hector does when lightning goes around. I’m not sure if You’ll see the area where I live in when You open up the site. I live between the two big lakes here but this map shows the entire world so just zoom out and it will be easier to find the place where You live.

It started already at 5am so we never had any early morning walk today, in fact we almost didn’t get a walk at all, either it rained or the thunder came closer, strangely enough it didn’t do both, that only happened recently. I don’t mind thunder as long as it rains at the same time, dry thunder is never good when it is as dry as it is here. I’ve placed my orchids on the entrance stairs, they love to stand outside while it is raining. They look like they all are dying so I hope this might make them happier.

I managed to do the laundry between thunderstorms but I doubt it will dry even if I have it hanging beneath a roof on my patio. I just looked outside and it looks like fog is filling up the area closer to the big road. I hope it comes here too after the thunder has passed, I really didn’t get any good photos today or yesterday :-)All dogs are more or less stressed by this and all have started to fart really bad 🙂 🙂 🙂 Nova smell so bad that I had to open up the kitchen door, it’s impossible to stay here if I don’t manage to get some fresh air in to the cottage 🙂

These three photos were taken yesterday. This troll spindle was kind enough to stay so I could get some nice photos of it.

I’ve just looked at the weather predictions and it looks as if we’ll have thunder coming and going for the next five hours, the temperature will rise to 30C (86F) but the humidity will sink to a rather low level. The last thing I doubt though since all the water that now have fallen upon us most likely will start to evaporate as soon as the sun will show itself again. We’ll have much the same weather tomorrow and I had hoped it would cool down considerable since it is my first day back at work after the vacation. It is warm enough as it is beside a huge hot washing machine and a huge hot oven 🙂

The thunder has calmed down and I hope that fog will move towards us too, it’s so thick now that I can’t see the mountain any longer, still it’s a bit too far to walk to since one never knows when the thunder will return again. I really don’t want to be caught by it out there 🙂 So until I know better I’ll just have a cup of tea and enjoy this last day before reality hits me in my face again.

I usually delete photos I've had in my blog but I do forget it sometimes. These were taken on a Wednesday so I don't think You have seen them before.
