They are changing colors now.

The trees are turning yellow.

I would say that no matter what the meteorological explanation on when autumn starts says it has started here, the leafs are starting to change colors. I saw this morning how many of them are turning yellow. A bit early to be honest but I’m not sure if trees cares about that 🙂 I guess it can be because of the stress from the long draught and then this rather cold and rainy weather after that, it sure feels like autumn anyway.

So I’ve started to prepare just in case that first frost will be early too by placing lots of plants beneath a roof on my patio. The first frost usually never reach in far there the first visits. The Brazilian nicotiana with no name flowers now but they usually only smell warm evenings and since we’ve had around 10C (50F) already around 6pm here I haven’t had any chance to smell it 🙂 It will get a bit warmer and sunnier later next week they say so perhaps I’ll get a chance then.

They show a new channel for free on tv for a while now and it is the channel that show how Cesar Millan helps people with their dogs when things don’t work as they should. To be honest, some of those dog owners are pure idiots! Yesterday for instance they showed a couple that at first had one dog, for a reason I didn’t hear they got another one and that’s when the problems started. The first dog got aggressive and protective. So what does this couple do? Do they solve the problem? No they get yet another dog to even things out as they said?! 🙂 How on earth did they think that would solve anything? Thankfully this was tiny dogs, slightly bigger than Chihuahuas but still they were afraid of this aggressive one.

I’ve heard that Cesar Millan can be a bit too tough on dogs but from the little I’ve seen he hasn’t. On the contrary, he has been determined and consistent and always very calm. Mostly he seems to work with light touches and sounds, when it comes to dogs. He’s a bit different with the humans and is more a therapist to them than anything else. This morning they showed a dog that was afraid of the beach and ocean and how four people tried to force it to stay by pushing and carrying the poor dog, how on earth did they think that would help 🙂 🙂 🙂 If You were afraid of dark rooms and somebody forced You in to one, would You be less afraid of it after that? 🙂 🙂 🙂 It took him a day to make the dog feel safe on the beach close to the ocean.

Much nicer weather on our second walk. Lots of Riowan berries this year, at least on this tree.

Unfortunately they send these program when I’m at work during weekdays so I’m hoping they send this channel for free for at least a few weeks so I can watch it during the weekends early in the mornings. I do like to watch how he solves the problems the owners create or worsen when they get their dog/ dogs because to be honest most of those problems are created by humans that simply put their own fears in to the dogs heads.

It’s raining again after a few hours with sunshine, I’ve done the laundry and I have only the dinner making left to do today. This week it will be reindeer shaving stew, lots of mushrooms in it and some onions but no other vegetables because I forgot to buy any 🙂 I can always add them after work tomorrow. But for now I’ll be happy for a cup of tea.

    Hi Christer,
I watched Cesar Milan several years ago. My first thought was no, the dogs are fine. They are behaving like dogs would in the given circumstances. Milan trains the people not to treat dogs like people. I think he can be rough on dogs when the situation warrants it. Some dogs are just tough and won’t stand down unless you stand on them.
I loved it when he had his facility in some industrial part of Los Angeles that was controlled by a pack of mean little chihuahuas. He had no problem with the mean chihuahuas but he would always warn clients when they had to go outside the facility for training. It was funny. My favorite one was the Pink Woman. She was an actress. Everything in her apartment was pink. She was mostly pink. You know where this is going. When the dog in question was finally allowed in it was some fluffy little thing that had been dyed pink. With a pink bow on its head. Milan collapsed in laughter on the floor. I think he laughed a long time.

Signs of Autumn are appearing here as well. Things start turning from the ground up. The lowest stuff in the swamp turns first. Right now the neighborhood is being thistledowned. 🙂 There are several large thistles growing against my neighbor’s fence and the Goldfinches are tearing the seed heads to pieces. Thistledown floating everywhere. Thistles everywhere next year. 🙂

The weather has been on the cool side but we will be heading into summer temperatures in the coming week. They are even predicting a 90ºF day on Wednesday. Figures. The kids will be in their unairconditioned schoolrooms. 🙂

    Enjoy the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

I agree with You, in the few episodes that I’ve seen there hasn’t been any really rough dogs, just confused but aggressive ones. It has been enough to just say that tschh and a light touch to get the dog calmer and loosing focus on what ever it is it is focused on.

I wonder if that was the lady in Ink Master, everything in her home including the dog was pink 🙂 🙂 🙂 I just can’t imagine there being two as nutty ones around 🙂 🙂 Her dog was just as You describe it, a fluffy pink thing 🙂 🙂 🙂

Unusual few thistles around this summer so I guess the European Goldfinches will have trouble finding enough to eat this winter. Perhaps they’ll come here if I buy a mixed seed bag too, they tend not to eat sunflower seeds.

It won’t be near summer warm here but it will at least be close, I would like a few more warm and nice days before autumn really hits us.

Kids take the heat better than us slightly older ones 🙂

      Have a great day!

hi christer! i am seeing some leaves changing here too. however, we are about to have the longest heat wave of the summer all through next week…ugh! i love watching ceasar. i NEED ceasar! joyce

    • Hi Joyce!

I thought it would happen earlier up here than at Yours! Well, the trees knows when to shut down I guess. No heat wave here but it will become a bit warmer and the rain will finally stop falling from the sky.

I read that they don’t do that show any more, it’s a good thing we are a few years behind then 🙂 From what I have seen he really treats all dogs anf humans with respect.

      Have a great day!

Hi Christer!! I have seen that show before – it is true what you say, most of the dog owners are first timers and have no clue. Its a good thing there is someone out there like him to help these poor individuals. I saw a good show of his with one yellow labrador that was vicious around her food. She bit him rather badly at one point – but he finally did turn her around. Surprising for a Lab, they are usually the gentle ones!! Lovely pictures today, the last one I really like! Still raining here – the worst is yet to come apparently. Another 30-50 mm. We will all be floating after this! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

    • Hi Dianna!

I’ve never had the channels they’ve shon it on so for me this is a treat 🙂 They show another dog trainer (or should I write people trainer 🙂 ) just after Millan but I don’t like him. Not that he treats anyone bad I just don’t like him as a person no matter how good he is 🙂

When a lab turns bad it really turns bad! but thankfully that always never happens. They can be more or less insane in all ways but seldom aggressive 🙂

The rain comes and goes, it comes especially every time I feel it is time for a walk so I guess we won’t have any more walks today. According to all predictions we shouldn’t have had especially much rain at all today and we’ve had lots 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. beautiful photos!! as always, lol, they have the dog fellow on dvd I think, my daughter watches him all the time, she had a dog who had some issues, had been mistreated but she is a lovely big gentle dog now. I always think its sad any fool can have a dog or a child, most times I think its the owner not the dog that needs therapy!

    • Hi Laurie!

There has been serious discussions over here if a dog owner license should be a must to be able to own a dog. So far it has only been discussions though. I think it is a great idea! But I doubt they’ll ever get that far. It is almost always the humans fault that the dog doesn’t know how to behave and to be honest, it is the humans that Millan really works the most with.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  5. Hi Christer,
Gracie could use a few good dog pointers. She talks back to me all the time but sits when I tell her though she’s never happy I expect her to behave. She also stops barking when I tell her. The only thing I can’t break is she jumps on people when they visit. She never jumps on me as I taught her not to but it hasn’t transferred.

The weather said the high yesterday had been 72˚ when it is usually 79˚ every other summer. Many days this month have been below the usual summer average. Last night got down to 59˚ -that’s cold.

It is still too early for the leaves to change. We need much colder nights.

    Enjoy your tea!

    • Hi Kat!

My dogs usually do as I say but like Gracie Nova and Sune jump on people we meet. I’ve tried to during the day as bestmake them jump on command because usually they don’t jump until one comands them to. I’m sad to say my dogs are a bit slow 🙂 Orvar and Hector has never jumped, they are big enough to reach most people anyway 🙂 They rarely bark when I’m at home but I know they do when I’m not at home and someone pass the dog yard. They do quiet down if they stop to say hi though 🙂 One trick for visitors to make a dog stop jumping is to put out the knee when the dog jumps, they lose balance and feel uncomfortable when doing so.

It’s not much warmer during the day than it is during the night here now, around 50F at night and 56F during the day as best but it will turn this coming week they say. The dampness outside makes it feel so much worse than it is.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.
