Elections here today.

Very foggy this morning, much like our politicval situation this year.

Very foggy this morning, much like our political situation this year.

Today is election day here in Sweden. Every fourth year we vote for the leadership of the parliament, region and county (if one is a Swedish citizen for all three, if not only for the county and region) and I went away early this morning to give my votes. This year is a tricky one, we’ll most likely get a new government but then again we did think that last time too and they still sort of won. I write sort of because they are a minority government and they have lost almost all important votes in the parliament these last four years. They refuse to negotiate with any other party in the parliament (there are 8 of them right now) and those few times they’ve won it’s been because our racist party (well they don’t call themselves that, they just want to stop all immigration and deport anyone not Swedish enough). have liked their ideas.

The problem for the opposition has been just the same, they have only been able to win if they’ve had that racist party on their side. None of them says they ever would work or negotiate with that party but they all still depend on how that party votes. The problem could easily be solved by the government if they just could negotiate with the biggest opposition party but they refuse and they say they’ll continue like that if they lose this election. Sounds a bit like the Republican party in the USA, doesn’t it? They would rather see this country go the same way as the southern European countries than to actually be responsible. The left side however is not so much better even if the biggest opposition party wants to negotiate with any party besides the racist one.

The opposition (left wing parties) is a mess too, The biggest party, the Social democratic workers party or Socialdemokraterna as we say once was the government and won the elections for 40 years I think it was. But since none of the four government parties wants to negotiate with them they only have two other parties to negotiate with, the Environmental party (Miljรถpartiet) and the left Vรคnsterpartiet, former communists). So a vote on Socialdemokraterna is also a vote for the environmentalists and many don’t want that. The environmentalists politics will kill the countryside I’m afraid because they will make it so expensive to live here that only rich people and big farmers will be able to afford to live here.

I've heard of dancing on somones grave but never feeding.

I’ve heard of dancing on someones grave but never feeding.

The odd thing is that it’s the opposite to what they really want!!! They want smaller ecological farms and a living countryside but they will make it so expensive to drive a car that no one will be able to stay here. No one can actually live on the income from a small ecological farm so they must have a job beside the farm. So how will they be able to go to work if they can’t afford to drive there. We have lousy public transports here, I for instance have 5km (3,11 miles) to the nearest bus stop and I have two rheumatic diseases. I can’t go straight to work via bus, first I’ll go to the closest town to change bus to one that passes the village where I work and go rather far south to change to a bus that goes to the village where I work. I’ll be at work at the time I must turn and go back home again ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ They tend to forget that we don’t have it like they have in big cities where there’s a new bus, train or tram every five minutes, here the bus goes once an hour ๐Ÿ™‚ I can also see myself walking the road to the bust stop in a snow storm ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

There’s another thing making this election rather interesting, there’s a new party in the block. They call themselves Feministic initiative. Until this summer they had around 2% of the votes but suddenly they might reach the 4% that is needed to get in to the parliament. The only person in that party that any of us really know is the former leader of the Left party (Vรคnsterpartiet). She is a very charismatic politician that we all like or hate. She once made the old communist party the third biggest part in this country and not because of the politics but because we like her ๐Ÿ™‚ She was tossed out of the party because she tried to get rid of the communist part and tried to make it a very left party instead. I doubt most people voting for her actually knows what the party stands for, it looks like it is a party to the left side and they look at any political issue from a feminist point of view. They want total equality between men and women and from what I’ve read it looks just fine. Sweden already is the most equal country in the world but that doesn’t mean it is an equal country.

The government is an alliance between four parties. The biggest one, Moderaterna (conservatives) is bigger than the three other together and the smaller parties really have very little to say. Moderaterna call themselves the new Labour party and people fell for it ๐Ÿ™‚ They lowered the taxes so much that our social security net fell apart, We are still waiting for them to get the Nobel Price in Medicine because they decided that no one can be sick for more than a year, after that You are healthy and can work or if You can’t You’re just lazy and should be punished. For a while dying cancer patients were forced to search for a job or go back to their old one. One of those patients died one week after being forced back. That has been changed though, it doesn’t look good on Your resume if You force dying people to work. They of course blamed the insurance company (we have just one big one when it comes to work and health issues) but it was the government that made those rules!

The three other parties in the government are Centern (no one really knows what their ideology is) Folkpartiet (The Liberals) and Kristdemokraterna (Christian democrats). Centern once was the party for the people living in the countryside but suddenly they decided the big cities were more important and sort of spat in the face of their old supporters. The big city folks did however not care about that party so now they’ve tried to come back as a countryside party again. Not very successful though, they are always close to be too small to be in the parliament. Folkpartiet was once a big party but no matter what they’ve done the party has become smaller and smaller and they live dangerously close to that 4% they need to get in to the parliament. They have been playing with the Swedish school system for eight years now and we have now the worst schools in the entire Europe. The school is so bad that many student starting in the Universities don’t know enough mathematic to manage any education there.ย

Then we have Kristdemokraterna. They have sort of sold their soul to be able to stay in the parliament and the power ๐Ÿ™‚ The founders were once right-wing Christians and they are most likely rotating fast in their graves now days ๐Ÿ™‚ Think of any Christian point of view and they have betrayed the founders wishes ๐Ÿ™‚ They too live dangerously close to those 4%. ย So no matter how we all vote today we’ll have problems ๐Ÿ™‚ We can continue to have the same government we have now and they’ll lose any important vote in the parliament. The opposition can win and they too will be a minority government with the former government parties refusing to negotiate with them and the two other parties not big enough to help them and one of them would gladly kill the countryside with the best of intentions ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope this hasn’t been too boring and tiresome, just imagine how it is to live in a country with politicians like this ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great day!

    Hi Christer,
Not boring at all. Your political analysis is sad and funny and instructive. There’s no good government anywhere anymore. The pols are only out to keep their lucrative positions of power and they don’t really care about governing responsibly. They just say what they think most people want to hear. The Ecology party is really sad. The Feminist party sounds interesting and somewhat rational. I might consider that one if I had to pick. The rest sound too stupid to live never mind rule. ๐Ÿ™‚
We just voted in primary elections last week. Primaries are always boring. We’re just picking the guy we want to run against the other guy. There weren’t any ballot questions this time around so turn out was around 20%. Very sad. I think voters who don’t bother to vote should not have the right to complain about anything until the next election. They should pay their taxes and accept whatever the government does happily and without comment because they couldn’t be arsed to do their civic duty. And that goes doubly for property owners who don’t vote in the local town elections. No complaining about real estate taxes. No grousing about town by-laws. They couldn’t be bothered to pay attention so STFU.
People died so we could vote. We show respect for the sacrifice by exercising that right at every opportunity.
I’m off the soap box, now. ๐Ÿ˜€

Nice foggy day you have there. The Portal really looks like a Portal to Somewhere in that photo. Did you walk through and come out someplace interesting?

Today is sunny and cool (61ยบ F) with a light breeze. It’s warm in the sun but the house is much cooler. It will stay that way until the sun gets over on the west side and shines in those windows. It would rate a fire to take off the chill, if I had a fireplace. It was really cold this morning. I saw 7 or 8 carpenter bees clinging to some goldenrod. They weren’t moving at all fast but they were alive. I touched one with my finger and it slowly crawled a tiny bit farther away. If I had meant harm, it would have been easily caught.

    Enjoy the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

It was easier back in te days when we only had five parties in the parliament but time has changed everything. I agree in all that You say, if You dopn’t wote (and hopefully use the rain we all are born with, just shut after if You don’t like what’s happening after the elections. The big exit poll shows that Moderaterna has lost almost 7% and the racists are now the third biggest party!? Feministic initiative seems to reach the 4% they need but no results are in yet so this can change rather much before it all is over. It also looks as if more people than in a very long time went to vote, some places will stay open long after the usual stop time (8pm). Normally we have around 80%-85% of the population voting.

Nazis broke in and created chaos in two places in Stockholm and a group close to IS tried to stop people voting too.

I always enter the magic kimngdom when I walk through that portal and it’รคs even better when doing it in fog ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t say much about it though, they erase most of what happened in there from my brain when I go back in to the real world again ๐Ÿ™‚

I tried to find resting dragonflies and bumblebees this morning but couldn’t find a single one. It is latre for bumblebees though, their season should be over by now and dragonflies seems to be hiding in trees during nights.

      Have a great day!

The troll spindles are hidden in the morning but they are all over the place as soon as the sun is up a bit. There’s quite a few of them patrolling my yard. Some of them even land on me now and then. No camera, of course, but even if I did have it, they’d probably land on my shutter finger. ๐Ÿ™‚
Haven’t seen bumblebees here since they sprayed for mosquitoes back in July. Carpenter bees, green bees and other syrphid flies are all that I’ve seen since then.

      • I have lots of them here in my garden too ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many troll spindles here before. One landed on me but just below my neck so it would have been impossible to get any photo anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

No spraying here, I think most farms around here are classed as ecological so no kind of spraying is allowed, we just have to learn to live with all these biting, nasty insects ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

HI Christer! That was an interesting post today! I think all countries have their fair share of political business and whatnot. We have an election coming up next month for mayor and city councillors. Will be interesting to see who wins. Your photos today are lovely and very ethereal! Kind of a spooky feel which I like!! We went to our cabin just for the day today to park our motor home there for the winter. It rained the whole time we were there, as we headed back to the city the sun started shining. Figues! Have a good Monday!

    • Hi Dianna!

Yes we all have our political troubles and last nights election didn’t make things easier ๐Ÿ™‚

It never got especially warm here yesterday even if the sun looked through the clouds quite a lot. It’s autumn so I guess we’ll have to be happy for what nice weather we’ll get ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a great day!
