Did You know that Sweden is the most extreme country in the world? It is or should I say the Swedes are. Something called the World Value Service shows that. The World Values Survey (WVS) is a global research project that explores people’s values and beliefs, how they change over time and what social and political impact they have. It is carried out by a worldwide network of social scientists who, since 1981, have conducted representative national surveys in almost 100 countries. The WVS measures, monitors and analyzes: support for democracy, tolerance of foreigners and ethnic minorities, support for gender equality, the role of religion and changing levels of religiosity, the impact of globalization, attitudes toward the environment, work, family, politics, national identity, culture, diversity, insecurity, and subjective well-being.
Take a look at the picture above, if You look at the top right corner there’s a little dot showing the values of Swedes. It shows we aren’t especially traditional when it comes to religion but very much secular, only the Japanese people are more secular than us. On,y 5% goes to church/ mosque/ synagogue regularly in this country. Family in the traditional way isn’t especially important to us either, You know the wife-husband- children family where the mother stays at home is very rare here. No one raises an eye-brow if the family is a single mother or father or both male or both female family with children here and almost always both parents work, if they have a job that is.
We have a very strong support for the freedom values and don’t believe in a strong leader. We also reject gathering power of experts or the Armed Forces, and are convinced that democratic government is the best possible system even with its flaws and shortcomings. The fun thing is that this seems to rub of on our immigrants so they tend to get the same values as us after a while. But to be honest, many of them already have values like ours and that’s why they felt the need to leave their country. So if You want extreme just come to us 🙂 🙂 🙂
Another thing that I think might be a bit different but I don’t think they knew this when they did the survey is that the former government fell because they had lowered the taxes too much so that we didn’t have that great social security net that we once had any longer. So before the election almost all parties told us that they would raise our taxes and even the conservatives said they wanted to do that 🙂 They wanted it too little and to late though 🙂 How many countries in the world is like that 🙂
Here’s a link to the World Value Service if You want to read what it is all about and how they did it: WVS. It’s quite interesting if one manages to read it through, it’s very much text 🙂 It’s time for a pot of tea and some nice sandwiches, Today I’ll have blue cheese, normal cheese, liver pate, spotted sausages, ham and some paprika on them 🙂
Have a great day and Happy Halloween!
I found this video just after posting this 🙂
It was rather cold here this morning, almost -3C (27F), when I left for the vehicle inspection. The car was covered in concrete ice but the air was crisp and clear and no wind were to be found. I drove in to a wall of fog when I reached Falköping but the sun was slowly rising making it look just wonderful. I was thinking that I should have brought any camera with me because when the fog is so thick that it stays in a warm town it’s just amazingly beautiful.
I signed up on a computer screen and it said I would have to wait for around 30 minutes until it would be my turn. I was thinking tat it would be rather cold in the car waiting that long but just as I sat down in my car they called me in. The first thing they would check was a tiny blinkers on the left side. Just as I was going out of the car the inspector told me to turn it on. I was as always full of anxiety when I must go to the inspection so naturally I turned on the windshield wipers instead. After that I turned on the blinkers on the right side and we both laughed so loud that everyone looked at us and my anxiety blew away in a second 🙂 🙂 🙂
The car passed the inspection without any problems so now I can keep calm for another year 🙂 As I was driving away from the inspection I thought to myself that no one knows when I will get in to the inspection and the sun is shining and it’s just wonderful outside, perhaps I should go to any open cafe to have a cup of coffee or two but then my conscience told me to go to work, we have loads to do so off to work I went. After all, I didn’t have any camera with me anyway 🙂
I worked at the neighbor factory today and will tomorrow too. It’s not the funniest of jobs but it’s a change to what I normally do so it’s ok. Time flies away when one is doing something one isn’t doing especially often. It’s chilly outside again and below 0C (32F) and the rain that was predicted won’t arrive until late tomorrow afternoon, so I guess we’ll have ice on the cars tomorrow morning again. But it will turn towards warm weather again already this weekend.
I got the photos in the mail yesterday so I’ll show some of them each day until there are no more to show. Some are actually not too bad while others are 🙂 Now it’s time for a big cup with cocoa and something to eat.
Have a great day!
I’ll have to tell You why Sweden is the most extreme country on Friday instead since it needs some explanation and it seems the universe has decided to not let me sit still for more than two minutes at a time today 🙂 It’s either a cat that wants to get in or a dog that wants to go outside only to regret it the same second I’ve reached the door to open it up 🙂 I also suddenly remembered that it was my mothers birthday, yesterday 🙂 We’ve never been much of a birthday celebrating family to be honest so she was happy that I at least remembered it almost at the right time 🙂
I had a letter in my mailbox, that I’ve longed for some time, when I came home today. A manual to my camera in Swedish. Even though I am descent in English it still is so much easier to understand what they mean when it is written in ones native language. I’ll read that one after writing this. I also had an e-mail waiting from the film developers. I can now see my photos online and they are much better this time. Yes they are slightly over exposed but much less than the last time. I also saw that I really need to get closer to what ever it is I want to photograph 🙂 🙂 🙂
The cd with the photos will arrive some time late this week or early next and I’ll of course show You how they look. This time I’ll only reduce the size and nothing more before I show them here. From now on I will have the help of a light meter and I will hopefully remember to get closer to what ever it is I want to photograph 🙂 I will also try to remember that these photos are squares and not rectangular like modern cameras take.
It’s time for some tea and I’m making rice porridge now, perfect autumn food, so I’ll have some of that too. It’s persimmon season now and I was wondering if they are any good to make jam from? or will it be just too sweet? They are now my favorite fruit after bananas and mango.
Have a great day!
I managed to do what I needed to do today a bit quicker than I thought I would, sometimes I’m just so effective without understanding it myself 🙂 So here I am writing even if I had thought I wouldn’t have any time for this today. Well I was a bit lucky because I worked at the neighbor factory and could walk by the grocery store on my way back to my ordinary job and saved lots of time on that. We have turned back our clocks this weekend but they had forgotten to do that in the neighbor factory, so I thought I was a bit late going back. It wasn’t until I returned to my ordinary job that I understood that I was back quite early instead 🙂
I’m going back to the vehicle inspection later this week to show that I’ve repaired my car. Naturally I then found one of the lights above the license plate was broken, so I drove to a petrol station to buy a new one. Guess if I was surprised to see the little light bulb shining again :-)Well, now I have two such light bulbs if any would break again 🙂 They aren’t supposed to check anything else than those things they found but one never knows. It all seems to depend on what kind of mood they’re in.
Now is the time when I drive to work in the dark and drive back home again in the dark too. I can’t say I like it, especially not on days when it is raining. It’s such a difference driving in this car than it was in my little Mazda. The Mazda was small and very low so all cars I met blinded me and on rainy days I sometimes wondered if it wouldn’t have been better to stay at home. Now I sit in a SAAB that is so much higher than the Mazda, even if it isn’t an especially high car and few cars blinds me now. So instead of being the one driving very uneven speed I now lay behind people who does 🙂 but I do remember how awful it was so I keep my distance and tries to drive just as uneven as they do 🙂
It’s time to have a pot of tea and something to eat. Did You know that Sweden is the most extreme country in the world? It is and if I remember it I’ll show You tomorrow 🙂
Have a great day!
It seems to be blowing even harder today and the predictions says this will continue for some days, it’s the rest of an old hurricane that pass us right now and after that more low pressures stand in line to visit us. I don’t mind as long as it doesn’t rain and for today that seems to be a wish come true. The sun even peeks through the clouds for a few seconds every now and again and that’s always nice.
I’ve done the chore I had for today, the laundry and it is now hanging beneath the roof on the patio. I guess the wind will dry it rather quickly even if the temperature is just 13C (55F). I don’t need it right away so it can hang there for a few days if necessary 🙂 I could of course vacuum the floors but my vacuum cleaner is heavy (one of those that can take both water and dirt) and I’m not sure my back will be able to manage it yet. Well nothing will go away by itself so I’ll get a chance to get it later 🙂 I bought lots of clothespins but I can’t for my life find them! I really don’t have that many places to put them but I still just can’t find them. I guess the first thing I’ll see when I bring in the dry clothes will be those clothespins.
We walked down to the creek this morning but walked upstream instead. I’ve avoided that road since the grass get so high and ticks love to wait for victims in it but I’ve only taken one from the dogs lately so I think they stay rather calm right now. I talked loud to the dogs all the time which seems to have been a good thing, we saw absolutely fresh tracks from one wild boar and at least two sows. No little ones though and the mud was so soft that it would have shown if any were there, it was also so soft that all tracks were gone by the time we turned homewards too. There were some tracks of moose too but those were older and on harder ground.
I saw some other rather obvious tracks too, some that made me rather happy 🙂 The beavers are back 🙂 Much upstream from the last time and if they disturb them again they will most likely move further upstream and in to the nature reserve. If they do and of their young ones spread they will most likely stop the flowing of water from the area and the old lake will most likely slowly start to show again. Ok, that will take years but still. Unfortunately that will also most likely give all kinds of biting insects a paradise here, as if we don’t have plenty as it is 🙂 🙂 🙂
I watched the last movies yesterday, Godzilla and X-Men, Days of Future Past. Godzilla is a really, really bad film 🙂 🙂 🙂 The special effects are many times poor, most of the film is therefore made at night-time. Some actors are so bad that I laughed as soon as I saw them, especially the two Godzilla experts. The female one looks like she’s going to throw up the entire film and the male one looks like he’s about to have a heart attack 🙂 It is so bad that I love it!!! Mothra is also showing up in this movie, they call it something similar but it is Mothra and that’s never a bad thing 🙂 So if You like me love really bad monster movies You must see this one 🙂 It is charmingly bad and I’ll watch it when ever I need a laugh 🙂 🙂 The X-Men movie is a bit boring to be honest but as always really well made!
I’m not sure there will be anything here tomorrow, I have some things to do that I couldn’t this week and I’ll do them after work. My back is still not especially good but I think it won’t be worse by working. I’ve posted some new photos in my NG album and here’s a link to it if You want to see those photos: NG The link will open up a new window if things works as they should.
It’s time for a pot of tea and something to eat.
Have a great day!
Not the best of weathers here today but still I really can’t complain, very little rain here. Not far from here it has been raining so much that big parts are flooded. Here it fell just enough to make the hunters give up early so my dogs and I could take a walk in the forest rather early.
We walked to the bog and they have placed a “new” small wooden bridge across the little creek. I’ve walked on it once before, in dry weather. I just didn’t think of how slippery they become when algae grows on them 🙂 Thankfully my brain isn’t as slow as my body so I could do a somewhat controlled fall towards a birch instead of an uncontrolled down into the creek 🙂 🙂 I didn’t feel much in my back at the time but I do now 🙂 🙂 🙂
Unfortunately that birch grew on the other side of the creek so I had to find a place where the creek is slightly thinner so I could jump over to the right side again, I had no wish in trying that bridge again 🙂 The dogs seemed to enjoy the walk on the wrong side though and so did Bertil. He continued there for quite some time until he thought it best to jump over to the right side again.
I watched Maleficent yesterday and it was a nice movie with a nice ending. I came to think about how different it would have been if an European company had made it. It would have been much darker, violent and with no happy ending for the poor Maleficent or her magic Queendom, on the contrary. We Europeans do like unhappy endings when it comes to movies 🙂 After this I’ll watch one of the other movies I bought.
But first I’ll have a pot of tea and something to eat as well, perhaps I’ll put another fire log in the stove too but it isn’t necessary to be honest.
Have a great day!
I’ve paid my bills and I have food in my fridge so life could be worse 🙂 The pain is now gone in my left side in my back but just as strong as before in my right but things are moving the right way anyway. I would have been outside moving around a lot more if it wasn’t for the weather, strong winds and rain every now and again don’t make me long for walks 🙂 The sun goes down around 5:30 so I still have time if it looks like the weather will stay steady for a while.
I’ve filled the bird feeders again but the strong winds seems to keep all small birds away and I can only see magpies walking around on the ground eating those seeds that missed the feeders when I filled them. It’s most likely that the magpies also keep all small birds away, they aren’t the nicest birds to have around to be honest. Beautiful and fun though but not nice towards small birds.
Nothing much has happened here since yesterday but I do have three new dvd’s I can watch. Godzilla, X-Men Days of future past and Maleficent. I look forward to see all three but perhaps most Maleficent. I haven’t heard much of any of the two other movies to be honest and I think that’s a good thing because then I won’t be influenced by what anyone else thinks of them. It’s way too easy to have what others think in the back of the head so that one either get very disappointed or very happy because they were wrong 🙂
It’s time for a pot of tea and something to eat and if the weather seems nice enough (it is actually rather nice outside when it doesn’t rain, the winds are warm) we’ll take another walk before it gets dark.
Have a great day!
We’ve had a rather windy and rainy weather here lately and today is no big exception, it doesn’t rain yet this morning but it will come. It snows not too far north but warm winds will soon melt away that snow and it will change to rain instead. I’m at home still and I’m pretty sure I haven’t had a cold at all. This morning I barely managed to get out of bed, I have a relapse in my rheumatism. I have Beschterews disease or Ankylosing Spondylitis (click on the names and a new window should pop up that will explain what this is) and it hits my back rather bad but thankfully it’s rarely as bad as it is today. It can start with much the same symptoms as a cold: fever, pain in the joints, being very tired all the time and just feeling unwell. Now I have an inflammation in my lower back that does its best to make my life difficult 🙂
The best thing to do is actually to move around which isn’t that easy when the back says it will kill You if you even think of trying that 🙂 🙂 🙂 I can’t take any medication since my stomach can’t take it. So after crawling up from the bed we took a short walk and even Hector walked faster than I did 🙂 🙂 🙂 But it does help even if it takes a while before one feel it 🙂 I’ll try to take a walk later on if it doesn’t start to rain a lot, I have a rowing machine that I use when this happens (well I use it otherwise too) but I doubt I’ll be able to sit down on it today 🙂 🙂 🙂 and if I would manage to do that I’m not sure I’ll be able to get up again 🙂 🙂 🙂
I ordered more film to my camera yesterday but this time a more light-sensitive one, ISO 400. For those of You not growing up with old-fashioned cameras that used film ISO is the measure of how light-sensitive a film is (we have it on digital cameras as well and can choose what we like when we use our camera in a manual mode). The higher the ISO the more sensitive the film is for light. Normally it means that the more sensitive it is for light the less it’s sensitive for color and the photo can be a bit grainy too but then we’re up at really high ISO. Fortunately they came up with rather good high ISO films before the digital era took over, so yesterday I ordered ISO 400. It will be so much easier to take photos now because with high ISO I can have higher speed on the shutter. That however doesn’t mean my photos will be better in themselves 🙂 🙂 🙂
It’s time for a pot of coffee, I have no tea at home and there’s no chance in h… that I’ll manage to get in to my car to go to the grocery store today 🙂 🙂 🙂 I think I have enough coffee for two pots so I’ll save the last for tomorrow morning. Tomorrow I must go to the super market because I have almost nothing edible at home now. I filled the bird feeders for the first time this season, we don’t usually feed the birds during the summer here. It took the birds a few hours until one of them realised there was food in the feeders. I have rather much seeds left from last winter and wasn’t sure they were any good but the birds gulped them down so I guess they were 🙂 I’ll put soe cheese pieces I have left over too and perhaps some fat from pork I’ve had in the fridge for some time. I need to know the birds have eaten that fat before I let the dogs out though, Orvar reach everywhere 🙂 🙂 🙂
Have a great day!
So what’s happening when it comes to the submarine hunt? Well the latest news says our ships have made contact with something on the bottom of the sea. The military says nothing though but why should they until they are certain of what it might be. It could after all be some old wreck but I doubt that since these waters are very well known. The mysterious man dressed in black that was seen walking in shallow waters outside an island is however identified, it is a retired man who often stands there fishing 🙂 I guess we’ll all know if they have something at more or less the same time because that would be so big news that all the world will know it exactly the same second 🙂
I got the cd with my Hasselblad photos and I can say those photos are rather bad 🙂 🙂 🙂 To my defence: I had no light meter but followed an old cheat sheet and I guess the photos would have been better if I had used my brain more 🙂 The cheat sheet said dark objects should have a different setting than light and black dogs are dark no matter how much the sun shines on them 🙂 🙂 If I had done as it actually says that first photo You’ll see today is the one with all dogs and one with only Nova. I made the same mistake in both those photos. I’ll also show how much I manage to edit those two photos but they are still rather bad. Those photos are shown just beneath here.
But I can now happily tell You all that I have a functioning old light meter, it arrived in the mail and I’ve checked it with my Nikon and it shows just the same readings. It’s a Zeiss Ikon Ikonophot T and has no tiny pins that sooner or later will break, it works by lamps. I put in what kind of ISO the film has and when reading the light the entire circle lights up when it’s right. I then look at the meter who tells me what kind of shutter speed I should have to what aperture. So simple but still so ingenious! I now have two rolls of film waiting to be mailed and I have followed the cheat sheet when taking those photos but hopefully used my brain some more this time. From now on I can’t blame anything but myself when I take bad photos 🙂
Another thing I must think of is that these lenses I have, have no zoom function, I’ll get a clear photo if I manage to adjust the lens good enough but I really can’t zoom in on anything special. That is a challenge because I need to go much closer to what ever I want to photograph unless I don’t mind getting much of the surrounding in the photo as well. It’s also rather hard to see through the seeker in this kind of camera since I need to look from above the camera and even if there is protection against the light it still makes it hard to see what I’m looking at when I use the longer lens. I now understand why they used to have a black blanket over themselves when looking through the seeker, it’s the only way to actually be sure if the motive is sharp or not.
I do have fun though 🙂 but taking just one photo takes so much time that I’ve so far walked out without my dogs, they don’t have the patience to wait and I don’t have the patience to keep them calm while waiting 🙂 and since it is rather expensive now days to use film I won’t take too many rolls of film each month. I won’t buy any more ISO 100 films, it just demands too much light to be honest. I rarely have my Nikon on that ISO unless it is a very bright summer day or winter day with lots of white snow. It would be nice to be able to go out with the camera without any tripod, it’s just in the way when I don’t take any photos.
It’s time for another pot of tea and lots of honey too, I’m still not especially sour in my throat but I’ve started to become hoarse. Still no news whether they have found something on the bottom of the ocean or if it was a false alarm.
Have a great day!
I’m at home with a fever today, stuffed nose and it feels like I’ve burned my lungs some 🙂 Not especially sour in my throat though but there’s still time to get that too. I’ve been like this all weekend but I thought it best to stay at home yesterday afternoon when we were out walking, it’s not normal to sweat like a pig after walking only 200 meters (much the same in yards). So today will be a day of relaxation and tea drinking, I’ll also have some of that honey I got from my neighbor. I’ve already tested it and it is delicious, sort of has a sharp edge to it and the only flower we can think of giving that here at this time of year is Yarrow but we’re not sure.
The Ebola panic is spreading here too. Yesterday a man who hadn’t even been near Africa but came from the middle east got sick at the airport. He threw up and had some nose bleed and what do they suspect? Yes Ebola. I could have understood it if he came from somewhere in the regions where Ebola actually exists but I guess better to be safe than sorry. It showed that he didn’t have Ebola but we he actually had I don’t know. But I think very few people cared about that since we have unwanted visitors in our archipelago right now.
Nothing much has happened since yesterday though, the navy has moved from the first area where someone saw something and since they do know how it looks down at the sea bottom there I guess they are certain nothing unwanted is laying on the sea bottom. The Russian cargo ship that we all suspect is the mother ship for this small submarine is suddenly heading straight towards our coastline but nothing will get a chance of being attached to it or getting onboard to that ship since we have a submarine of our own just behind it. There was also this Russian ship specialized on mapping the sea floor heading towards us but I haven’t heard what has happened to it, if it still is on its way here.
It’s almost impossible to find a submarine that doesn’t want to be found but if the crew makes the tiniest mistake they will be found. Since we all believe this most likely is a Spetsnaz mission going wrong they will most likely not make more mistakes than they already have. So I would be surprised if they found it and captured any crew but it would be fun if they did 🙂 I wonder if they’ll stop the mother ship to enter our territorial waters? I’m not sure that’s allowed according to international law. If anything actually would happen I’ll update You all.
The morning has been cloudy and it will stay that way all day. No rain though and that’s always a plus and it will stay around 10C (50F) so it’s quite nice outside. >Now it’s time for a pot of tea and some honey.
Have a great day!
