I hope thw wind will calm down some.

DSC_0002

As soon as we came back inside the cottage after our morning walk the sun started to show itself through the clouds. Too bad it didn’t while we were outside because even if it is only just below 0C (32F) the wind make it feel soo much colder. But it was a fairly nice walk anyway to be honest. The dogs were following tracks like crazy but I had both Sune and Nova in leashes because if the wolf would be around here I know that at least Sune would run as fast as he could to greet him πŸ™‚

I doubt it still hangs around though, I’ve seen no tracks so far and they usually just continue southwards fairly soon. It would be cool to catch one with my camera though πŸ™‚ I did see a few flocks of migrating swans but that was it on the animal front this morning. But I can see lots of small birds in my garden now since I’ve started to fill the feeders again for the season. We normally don’t feed the birds during summer here but I have heard that they now days also sell seeds during summer time too.

I’m hoping the wind will calm down some because I want to put net over some plants I want to protect towards hungry deers. I also would like to clean up after the dogs but I have tomorrow too to do that since this is my Saturday, I only worked over time yesterday if I could take the Monday of, otherwise I never would have done it πŸ™‚ But this will still be my laundry day so I’ll start doing that in a minute or two. Perhaps the wind will dry it at least some before I take it in later today again πŸ™‚

But firstly I’ll have some rice porridge, it’s boiling at the stove right now. I think it needs at least twenty more minutes until it’s ready so I’ll have a cup of coffee until then.

Have a nice first of Advent!

They should never be allowed to have a dog again!

We still have some snow on the ground. This is just enough and would love if it was like this all winter :-)

We still have some snow on the ground. This is just enough and would love if it was like this all winter πŸ™‚

I thought it would have been better to die than to go up this morning πŸ™‚ I can’t remember when I was that tired before but up and away we went like a normal work day. It is a while since I painted in that way so I have to say my painting was a bit wobbly πŸ™‚ At first I had too little thinner so I poured in some more and suddenly I painted like I’m used to. But then I had to refill with more paint and took a bit too much thinner in the paint and the wobbly result showed again πŸ™‚

The important thing is that everything is covered on these things, they are some kind of concrete moldsΒ and very huge, so it doesn’t matter if the paint ran here and there. The paint will most likely be scraped as soon as they start using these molds anyway πŸ™‚ We were ready to go home much earlier than expected thankfully and now my weekend starts. The weather hasn’t been close to as cold (rather chilly anyway to be honest) as they said but at least as cloudy. But it did snow some when we went to work and some was still left on the ground when we came home.

We took a walk as soon as we came home and all the dogs got really interested in a scent on the ground and followed the tracks veryΒ thoroughly. It could have been the wolf passing there but it can also be wild hogs I guess. No more sightings from what I’ve heard anyway, too bad I would loved to see it before it continued on its journey south. They always seems to continue south and never stop here for any longer period of time.

Something that is really popular on Facebook here is to show photos of hunting dogs that have been killed by wolves and of course they want us to feel sorry for not the dog but the owners that have lost a family member. No one questions how these owners have acted at all! They know there are wolves in the area and they know the wolves will kill their dogs if they run in to each other! Still they let the dogs out and when they are killed they cry publicly over how evil wolves are! I think that anyone that willingly let out their dog in to an area where they know there are wolvesΒ should beΒ prosecuted for animal abuse or cruelty towards animals!! How in the h… stupid are they if they do that??? They should never more be allowed to have or be near a dog again after doing something like that!

Foggy and cold in the morning, sunny and cold now in the afternoon.

The morning was a bit chilly and very foggy so the road to work was a bit slippery. No bigger problems as long as one drove at the legal speed though. No problems either if ones dogs could just lay still where they are supposed to lay still but Nova insisted on leaning her head towards mine almost the entire way πŸ™‚ and Sune wanted to have his head on my arm to get some attention too.

The dogs followed me to work because we were going to the vet at 9 am so they could get their vaccinations. They get that every second year but the girl at the reception insisted me on going every year to get a vaccination against kennel flu which is totally unnecessary since we almost never meet any other dogs here. I told her that I really didn’t care what she wanted, they were going to have the same as they always get. The vet didn’t think the kennel flu vaccination was especially necessary either πŸ™‚

She was fantastic with the dogs, they didn’t even notice that she gave them the shot! Sune is a screamer otherwise when it comes to that but he was just happy that she seemed to like him so much πŸ™‚ Sune is also a peer, he pees as soon as he think I’m angry at him or when he get really stressed about something, like when I try to entangle the leashes because he has twined them together by never walking a straight line πŸ™‚ If I try to entangle the leashes without telling him how good he is when I try to lift him over the leashes or beneath them he starts peeing like crazy πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ He is no big city dog, that’s for sure.

Unfortunately the factory owner caught me when we came back from the vet and wanted me to work tomorrow to paint with real paint because we’re very much behind. Our ordinary painter is home on sick leave until at least January 2nd, it seems he has been walking around with a broken foot for almost half a year and that only because the doctors refused to x-ray his foot, they prefered to say that he most likely had had a small thrombus in the foot. We have a young guy painting instead of him but he isn’t used to this and a bit slow yet but is a great painter, So he will work on Sunday and I tomorrow.

I won’t be alone in the factory though, a work friend will also be there driving the forklift truck because the things I’ll paint are very big. I had one demand though, I would only work tomorrow if I could have Monday free πŸ™‚ He really was in no position to say no since these things must be painted until Monday πŸ™‚ I need two days off from work, especially now when it is so dark all day.

It is time for us all to have something to eat, I already have a cup of tea by my side. The Yule cards are ordered and I hope I’ll have them some time early next week. My neighbor think he saw a wolf here last Wednesday, he can’t be for sure though. It was dark outside and he only saw it in the light from his flash light, it was bigger than Orvar though so it must have been a young wolf and not a dog walking around by himself. Didn’t see any on our walk today though. II think I’ll stay outside now in the morning while the dogs do their business, just in case. By the way, I’m not hijacked any longer πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

I’ve been hijacked!

Well I’m not sure if it is only me or the entire National Geographic in the USA. I get a message that the site I’m trying to get in to is hijacked by the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) and I can’t log out or so anything. I don’t have the mail address to NG either so I can’t contact them but I’ve sent a message to Caryn that comes here every day and hope that she can help me by contacting NG. Rather annoying normally when something like this happens but today I had a rather nice photo to post there and can’t do it πŸ™‚

You see, I got my cd with the photos I sent in monday morning to be developed πŸ™‚ I really can’t complain about them being slow, can I πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ The photos taken with the normal lens were almost all slightly overexposed. Well not really because the motive looked good but the sky that can be seen is over exposed πŸ™‚ Almost all taken with the telephoto lens were good and those taken under exposed were really good πŸ™‚ So now I know how I must think and adjust the camera after how the light meter shows. Two of the photos were very over exposed so those I’ve edited rather much but I’ll write beneath those that they were edited a lot πŸ™‚

We’ve had a mostly clear day with sunshine and now the temperature is dropping. I had to scrape ice from the front car window when I was going home but all the other windows were just fine?! I’m pretty sure I’ll have to scrape more than the front tomorrow morning though, it is already below 0C (32F) and the sky is still clear. I don’t mind if it gets a bit colder as long as we don’t get snow or black ice. There was black ice in the village where I work but all other roads were just fine.

Now it’s time for a pot of tea and then I’ll order my Yule cards. I had one that I really liked amongst those I got today, so I won’t show that one until Yule eve here πŸ™‚ With a bit of luck I’ll send them in time so You on the other side of the ocean will get them before Yule eve.

I’ve worked two hour over time and I’ve paid my bills so the rest of the evening is chore free. You might wonder how I can write this at the usual time of a working day if I have worked two hours with over time? Well it is simple, I got up at 3:45 this morning and started working two hours earlier than normal. I like it better than to come home two hours later. I still have the evening like always and can do what ever I need to do. It’s also very nice to be able to have a fire burning in the stove for a couple of hours before going to bed.

The night was a bit chilly so I had to scrape the car windows before leaving and the roads were covered with black ice here and there but only for short distances thankfully. I saw a lot more deers close to the road than I usually do and even if IO like seeing them I don’t want them close to the road. The dogs didn’t care about them at all though πŸ™‚ They were in my team leaders office all day and I forgot that they hadn’t had a chance to do their business before going in to the factory, so Sune peed on the floor after a while πŸ™‚ No carpet in there so it was an easy clean up.

The sun shone all day and I enjoyed every second I got outside every time I went out with the dogs πŸ™‚ We were in one of the forgotten gardens and even Nova could be without a leash there, she and Sune chased each other my entire lunch break so they slept like babies for the rest of the day πŸ™‚ I sat on an old stair in the sunlight just enjoying the day and the old boys walked around sniffing on every tree and bush they could find and there are plenty of trees and bushes there. Too bad we had to go inside again.

So now we’re home again and my feet are killing me, especially my toes seems to want to end it all πŸ™‚ The fire is burning in the stove and I feel ready for the bed πŸ™‚ But I’ll stay up until normal bed time otherwise we’ll only wake up in the middle of the night and then I’ll be just as tired tomorrow πŸ™‚

Could have been better.

The photos today will be a mix from this weekend and the weekend before.

Nova woke me up at 3 am this morning, someone had thrown up by the entrance door and most likely needed to do it again. All dogs ran out and I cleaned the floor while waiting for them to come in again. I couldn’t fall asleep properly after that so I am a bit tired today. I also went down into the cool cellar and watered the plants I have there, it isn’t especially cold there yet so they still need some water. I could hear the wind roar but it was absolutely calm in my garden.

When I came home and opened the door an awful smell hit me in my face. I had to shower the big boys so what ever it was that smelled had to wait until I had done that. Even when I shower them in the garden I have warm water, I just connect the garden hose to the kitchen water tap so I really can’t see why they prefer to shower outdoors. But I managed to get them in to the bathroom even though Orvar did protest some by sitting down πŸ™‚

DSC_0001

I took then outside again so they could shake off most of the water, well some anyway and went inside again to find from where that awful smell came. Then I suddenly heard a cat somewhere, it turns out Teodor had followed me into the cellar this morning and I had locked him in πŸ™‚ There are some really big pots with lots of soil in them so I can’t for my life understand why he pooped on the floor?! Cat poop smells really awful πŸ™‚ I won’t know where he peed until one of the plants die I guess because that he does in the pots. He has killed some plants in my home by doing that. It doesn’t smell when he does it but I caught him in action one day so now I know why those plants suddenly died πŸ™‚ Good forbid that he actually would use the cat litter box πŸ™‚

I put the envelope with the two rolls of film in the mailbox today and I’m really looking forward to see how these photos turns out. I think I might have at least two really good photos but I won’t know until they send me an e-mail with a link to a site where I can see them long before they arrive here in my mailbox. I’ll bring the dogs with me because I’ll work over time but I’ll write something here in the blog anyway.

I know it’s dumb to trust weather predictions but they say we’ll get sunshine on Tuesday and lots of fog on Wednesday. I wouldn’t be surprised if they come true because they are working days when I won’t be able to go outside anyway πŸ™‚ It will also stay warm for a few more days but it looks like we’ll get colder and perhaps sunnier weather during the weekend. But that’s so far away that I just as well could ask a fish if that will happen πŸ™‚ It seems they barely can predict the weather for more than an hour ahead despite their mega big and fantastic computers.

They have been right about today though, grey and dull Β and a bit more windy than it was yesterday. I met the hunters yesterday when they were going home and we were going out for a walk. They don’t like trophy hunters, the ones that shoot deers and big wild hogs just because they want to put up something on their walls at home, they like me think that hunting is for controlling how many deers, moose and hogs there are out there in the forest so that they don’t become too many and later on starve to death or die from diseases they wouldn’t get if they weren’t too many.Β

We walked down stream on one side of the creek and upstream on the other side.

They also told me that One Eyed Rune most likely is dead now, by old age. They had found a dead one-eyed deer in the forest with no injuries. He was old so that’s no surprise but I’ll miss the old buck. None has seen Longhorn in a long while, they really wanted to get rid of that one since he injured other deers with his sharp antlers, I guess the lynx took him first. There’s also aΒ new boar ruling in the forest, he’s smaller than the previous one but seems big enough to know he’s in charge. He had passed one of the hunters while he sat in a hunting tower, studied the hunter for a while and then slowly walked in to the forest again πŸ™‚ It’s strange but they seems to understand when the hunter hasn’t a big enough rifleΒ to shoot them because when they have no hog is to be seen πŸ™‚

I doubt it is dry though, the wind is blowing but it is chilly enough to keep it wet I’m afraid. Tomorrow I’ll send the two rolls of film to be developed, this time I’m really looking forward to see the result because I think I have a few pretty good photos, perhaps one might be good enough to become the Yule card. If so You might get the card a bit late this year πŸ™‚

I used ISO 4000 to be able to get any photos. That’s why some might look a bit gravely.

Something is very wrong and nothing prepared me for this! The sun is shining! They didn’t predict this at all, on the contrary, so now I think I need to go to my car to get my sunglasses πŸ™‚ I had to hang a big towel to cover the window in the kitchen door since it was impossible to see what I was writing onΒ my laptop πŸ™‚ and I couldn’t see much og the photos I took this morning either before the towel came up πŸ™‚ I am however very pleased with this weather and I better enjoy it because a new low pressure is waiting to fly over my country and we might even get some snow tonight but that will melt away long before I wake up.

It got slightlyΒ cold during the night since the sky cleared up and as lowest it hit -3C (26,6F) but with the help of the sun it now is balmy 3C (37,4F) πŸ™‚ But it wasn’t cold long enough to make any frost even if we had really thick fog. It started think and by the time we came out for our morning walk it thinned out a lot but suddenly even thicker fog rolled in over the fields again. Too bad that it is hunting day today because it also looked as if it was very thick in the forest and by the bog. Of course no hunter went out hunting in the fog, they wouldn’t have seen anything anyway but fog can vanish fast and if it does they’ll go out and that’s not a good time to wander around out there πŸ™‚

The fog was still around when we came home after our walk so I left the dogs in the cottage and went out for a walk, the exact same one I’ve just walked, with my Hasselblad camera. I did exactly what the light meter told me when I took the previous roll of film but today I under exposed some photos and used the telephoto lens all the time. For You not familiar with under expose means it means I made the photos slightly darker by letting the shutter work a bit faster than what the light meter told me. It might work really good but can also be a total failure by making the photos almost totally black πŸ™‚

As many of You know we Swedes don’t say that winter (or any other season) starts at a special month, we go only on average temperature. We say summer begins when the average temperature is above 10C (50F) for an entire week (winter is when the temperature is belowΒ 0C (32F) duringΒ a week) . But I would like to say that even if we actually still is on summer and autumn temperatures here in southern Sweden winter started this weekend because so did the cross-country ski world cup and the ski biathlon world cup. From now on that will be shown on tv as soon as someone thinks about skiing πŸ™‚

I emptied the big water barrels I have in my garden yesterday and brought in the gold fishes and the koi carps. One koi was dead but all the others were just fine. The water smelled nasty but it is after all more or less aquarium water since the fish have lived there since spring. I had planned to have them in a plastic bucket all night so they slowly could adjust to the temperature here in the cottage but I hadn’t noticed the thin crack in the bottom of the bucket but I did when I walked in the water that had leaked out on the bathroom floor, so they had to move in a bit earlier than I had hoped. But they all looked fine this morning so I hope they all feel fine too.

It’s time for a pot of tea and then a walk, hopefully in the forest. The hunters are usually not that patient so they should be out of there before 1pm. But they did bring a dog today and I guess they all might stay out there until it has returned to its owner. It has been very quiet though so I doubt it has been running around especially much before they gave up.

Swedish meatballs are after all delicious.

DSC_0007

Multisport is one of the toughest sports in the world and the World championship took place in Ecuador last week. It includes several days of running, biking and white water rafting and Sweden did of course send a team to participate in it. They were four travelling to the championship but five returning. The team was resting high up in the mountains when a street dog suddenly came for a visit, he was dirty and hurt and looked hungry so one of the team members gave him a meatball because he had just opened a tin with meatballs to have as dinner.

DSC_0003

DSC_0004

DSC_0005

He didn’t think more of it but the dog did πŸ™‚ He decided to become a member of the team and started to follow them and they named him Arthur. No matter how deep the mud they were running through was he just continued and he didn’t care that they were forcing through jungles either (well Swedish meatballs aren’t famous for nothing πŸ™‚ and he was probably the first human to ever be kind to the dog ). But then they came to the white water rafting, (70 km (43,5 miles)) sorry, it was 700km (435 miles nothing else) all in theΒ functionary team said that they had to leave him so they prepared to say good bye.Β

DSC_0013

DSC_0016

DSC_0017

Well Arthur thought otherwise, Swedish meatballs are after all rather delicious :-), and started to swim after the rafts. One of the team members then stopped and went back after the dog and placed him on his raft (I guess all team members thought the same) and lend the dog his jacket. Every now and again Arthur jumped in to the river to get a fish and when he returned the team member put his jacket around him. He said it was a bit hard to paddle with a dog in his lap but he just couldn’t leave the dog.Β

He had already decided to bring the dog with him home to Sweden when he crossed the finish line but we do have very strict rules when it comes to bring a dog to this country from outside the EU. He called Swedish authorities and first they said ok but then they changed their minds because they read in the news papers that the dog was injured and thought it might be too much for the dog to fly all that way. Also, the dog wasn’t vaccinated towards rabies and that’s a must. He didn’t have a micro chip either so they could identify him when he arrived and if he was coming here he would have to sit in quarantine for four months and that costs a fortune.

Yes this is the time of year when even Nova is allowed to walk without a leash, in places where I can see if there are any hares :-)

They had finally stopped shedding fur and now they start again. Yay!

It is amazing what people can do when they want something. They found a vet that vaccinated Arthur and also gave him that vaccine and cleared him for transport to Sweden. But there was still no ok from Sweden. Finally the minister of social affairs in Ecuador helped and they got the last paper for an ok from Sweden 20 minutes before liftoff πŸ™‚ Yesterday the dog and the team arrived to Sweden πŸ™‚ They think Arthur is seven years old and I do wonder what he will think of our winters after living in Ecuador all his life πŸ™‚ My guess is that the quarantine cost will be enormous (around 50 000 swedish kronor, around $7150 US) but so many people have loved this story that I guess that he will get financially help from lots of people here.

The fire is burning in the stove again, it didn’t last evening because the chimney sweeper came here today and I never have a fire in the stove the day before that person arrives. They don’t vacuum hot ashes, which is fully understandable and I only had a plastic bucket to spare for ashes. Not a good thing if the ashes still is hot πŸ™‚ I normally never stay at home when they come here, instead I leave the doors unlocked. I would never do that if I lived in a village or town but no one finds this place even if they have a map or follows the directions from a GPS πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

WeΒ might get frost this weekend so I’ll load my Hasselblad camera with film and hope for the best. It would be nice to get some frost photos with that camera or some fog photos but it lately we’ve only had fog when it is a work day and we haven’t had much frost at all to be honest. Winter will come but I already have one roll of film waiting to be shipped to be processed. It would also be fun to get some photos with sunlight in them, I can’t remember when I saw the sun shine the last time πŸ™‚

Talking about photos! I must find a Yule card photo now! I thought I had lots of time to do that but now I’m a bitΒ late. I would like a fun photo but I’ll take what I can get since I have so little time left to do it. It will most likely not be taken with the Hasselblad camera though πŸ™‚ I can’t even pretend those photos are good enough yet πŸ™‚

It’s time for a pot of tea and perhaps something to eat as well. Tomorrow’s Friday and a short working day and I was thinking I would look through all the old photos to see if I should post any here.

Have a great day!

Are You tired of puppies yet?

This one was also called Orvar and he's Orvar and Hectors uncle. He was the biggest of them all and I think he actually was a bit bigger than my Orvar who is 5 feet high when he stands on his hind legs.

Are You tired of Puppies yet? Because I also found the photos from the first bunch fifteen years ago. That experience was totally different but oh so scary anyway. You know how it is when they show this on tv, the bitch is just lying there, says a weak humph and there the puppy is. Well, Viran was nothing like that. For one thing she just couldn’t stay calm at all but walked or ran around already in the early morning. Then around 2pm she started to howl and she didn’t do it quietly πŸ™‚ I wasn’t sure about this behaviour so I called the vet. I took a look at her when he answered and screamed in his ears, she’s standing outside and it just pours out of her, has the water broken now?

You'll also see some photos that show the surroundings where I lived back then. I lived in a cottage with cold water and a compost toilet. I did have electricity though :-)

Image002_3

Image003_4

My vet, who is a very calm man then said, she’s outside You say? Are You sure she isn’t peeing? Of course she was πŸ™‚ She doesn’t howl especially loud either he said. Why don’t You just take a long walk with Your other dog? Viran will take care of this herself You know. I did try to take a walk with my other dog, Sickan, but ViranΒ refused to stay at home by herself. Taking a walk did at least quiet her down some but not much πŸ™‚ Β Around 6 pm the howling stopped and the, for a better word, screaming started and now she really ran around the entire cottage. I called the vet and he just calmly said, I’ve heard worse. Just leave her alone, why don’t You take a walk? I didn’t πŸ™‚

Image004_5

There are root cellars everywhere in that area and I guess anyone can use them if they fix the doors.

Image006_7

The screaming continued constantly and I’ve always wondered what my neighbors might have thought about it because she could be heard all over the area despite all the doors and windows being closed. At 8pm she also started moaning and that together with the screaming pushed me to what I could take. I called the vet and I could hear that he either was at a party or had guests at home πŸ™‚ I think he by then had understood that taking a walk was out of the question so he told me to perhaps read a book or try to rest before it started and yes he had heard much worse πŸ™‚

Image007_8

Image008_9

I had a huge lawn at that cottage.

I had a huge lawn at that cottage. The red in the background is my root cellar I wish I had it today.

I was thinking of calling him again around ten that night but since nothing much had happened since the last time I thought it was no idea. Viran had now started to make her bed with such frenzy that nothing was in one piece any longer πŸ™‚ My other dog refused to come close to either of us, she just jumped up into my bed and fell asleep πŸ™‚ At Β pm I remembered that I had read in a book that she most likely would like some help from me so I started to prepare with cloths and handkerchiefs. At 11:30 the screaming was so loud that I felt I was going insane πŸ™‚ So I called the vet again and said that I had never read that anything like this was supposed to happen. Then he said something very smart, don’t read those books, they have very little to do with how it can be and they just make You worried when You read them but I can hear it’s close now.

Image011_12

I remember taking this photo and how I was thinking that I never would see them this calm again :-)

I remember taking this photo and how I was thinking that I never would see them this calm again πŸ™‚ The brownish dog is Sickan. She was a mix between two swedish hunting dogs and Golden Retriever. She loved to follow tracks but never cared about chasing any animals.

Image013_14

He was right, her behaviour had changed to even worse so I came closer to her with a big handkerchief. Viran was one of the kindest animals I’ve ever met so her reaction was nothing I had expected. She threw herself towards one of corners in the kitchen and pressed her back towards it and showed me all! her teeth πŸ™‚ and at the same time she screamed and moaned also growled towards me and it sounded like that growl came from hell itself πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ So there shes stood at one corner of the kitchen screaming like insane and I sat at the opposite corner screaming like insane too πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Image014_15

This is Albert. He had semi long hair that was sort of wiry.

Image016_17

Sickan and Erna never liked each other. Once every year they had this huge fight about who would be the leader and even if Sickan was much smaller she always won. I never interfered, I just took them to the vet if they needed it. After each fight they accepted each other and stayed calm for one year.

I never interfered, I just took them to the vet if they needed it. After each fight they accepted each other and stayed calm for one year.

At 00:00 she suddenly got totally quiet and pushed for all she was worth and pressed out two puppies at the same time, well one might have come a second before the other but I wasn’t really that close so I could see it πŸ™‚ She looked at me and sighed loudly and then she sat right down on the puppies πŸ™‚ I had to lift her up to be able to reach them πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Besides looking for the placenta she really didn’t care much about them. It was the biggest and smallest puppies that was born first. After that it all happened fast, one after another popped out without too much work for her.

Image021_22

Six puppies were born before 1 am that night and even if ViranΒ didn’t show much interest in them at the beginning she became the best of all mothers for them. Things finally calmed down after around two hours and my other dog and I was falling asleep in a sofa beside the kitchen. Just before I fell asleep I hear a tiny bump in the kitchen so I went up to see what it was. Viran looked just as surprised as I felt when we saw a seventh puppy on the floor πŸ™‚ It was rather tiny and looked a bit different from the other ones. Greyish and it looked to have long hair too. I didn’t think it was alive but dried it and shook it and suddenly he started to breathe. He became one of the biggest of them as adult and he also became the father of Orvar and Hector. Too bad that their mother was their father’s sister πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Image022_23

Viran was the smartest dog I’ve ever met and the most funny one too. Have You read about Marley, the worlds worst dog? Let me tell You that Viran was just the same πŸ™‚ She destroyed three refrigerators in her life, one garage door and managed to open up a door that we humans had big troubles to open up. There’s a man who still remember ( even though it is over thirteen years ago) when he saw my then three dogs running around on the streets in a big city because of that πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I can tell You so many stories about that dog and maybe I’ll do one day.

Have a great day!

Down the memory lane, with puppies.

It isn't the best of photos but I still love it.

It isn’t the best of photos but I still love it.

I rarely walk down memory lane but yesterday I did when I found lots of cd’s with my old photos. There were especially three that I found that made me just sit down and watch over and over again. The first cd had photos from fifteen years ago but they were put on cd ten years ago. The second and third was taken eleven years ago. The quality isn’t too good but I just couldn’t stop looking at them πŸ™‚

Hector. He was mostly alone already from the start.

Today You’ll see photos from the second and third cd and I think the first photos were taken just days after Orvar, Hector and their two sisters were born. Everything went wrong that time. Their grandmother had puppies five years earlier and that is a story to tell and I will when I show those photographs but everything went as it should. When her daughter Erna was about to give birth to her puppies everything went wrong.

The others had loads of fun together ...

She had shown signs that she was about to have them but nothing happened. She walked around a little and moaned a little but nothing happened. I did look around to see if I could see some green spots anywhere, because the amniotic fluid from dogs get green when it dries up. I did worry and this was on a Friday evening and I didn’t sleep much that night. The morning after I rang to my vet station and unfortunately only aΒ big animal vet was in and he didn’t care much about dogs and said that nothing sound wrong and so it went on the entire day. On Sunday morning I found the green spot on a white t-shirt that I had given Erna and it was totally dry.

Image035_35A

Image036_36A

Image034_34A

I called the vet again and he had no wish at all to check on my dog and he refused to call any of the other vets either. He just told me to call the animal hospital in the nearby town Skara. I had done so several times but they had, for the first time ever, closed because of stomach flu. Finally I found a vet that at least could check my Erna, unfortunately she was just a substitute and didn’t have the right equipment but luckily enough one of the ordinary vets at that station came in and checked Erna. It didn’t take five seconds before she started using the phone.

Image032_32A

He did try to play with the others sometimes but he just doesn't get how to interact with other dogs. Mostoy it ended with his booth sisters chasing him away. So Hector became my little buddy. His mother wasn't nice to him until after she was eleven years old but his grandma loved him from the first second.

Orvar.

Orvar.

At first she called the animal hospital and of course got the same answer as me and then she called my vet station. Finally the idiot vet understood that he had made a fool of himself and the vet station, still he claimed it would take half the day before any other vet could come in, which was such a stupid lie since they all lived close to the vet station. She finally found an animal hospital that could help directly, only one thing was a bit bad. It was inΒ a big city 50km (31 miles) away and I had no idea where this animal hospital was placed.

Image004_5

Image005_6

Image007_8

To make a long story about driving there much shorter I found the place by mistake πŸ™‚ The first they said when she had checked Erna was that they doubted she would survive and it wouldn’t be easy to hand raise puppies but who cares about those petty things πŸ™‚ It didn’t take especially long when they came out and said there were eight puppies, four would Β die or was dying and four were just fine. So I decided they should concentrate on the ones that would survive. Β They came out with the four healthy ones and one of them was twice as big as the others and it was most likely he who had stopped it all and that dog was Orvar πŸ™‚

How fun they all had..

How fun they all had..

Here You see another family member back in the days, the cat Cosmos.

but Hector sat by himself.

but Hector sat by himself.

By the time I could drive home with the puppies ands Erna who had made it through the cesarean it was starting to become dark and the first night with frost was about to start. I hadn’t slept in 48 hours but was strangely awake πŸ™‚ and my brain worked in mysterious ways. I thought for instance that the car was breaking down all the way home and the only thing I could think of was if I would be able to carry both Erna and the puppies all the way home πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Image011_12

Even though Erna probably was one of the worst mothers ever she still didn't allow her Mother Viran, to help out. Viran was the mother of all living things even if all living things didn't want that :-) It wasn't until the puppies were around 8 weeks old that she finally took over no matter what Erna thought of it. She became Hectors best friend.

Yeah, You get the picture. Hector is alone.

Yeah, You get the picture. Hector is alone.

So now I sit here eleven years later with the two surviving puppies that’s left. The two sisters are gone and I can only hope the two brothers still have at least a few years left. I could smell that sort of nice but disgusting breath puppies have of sour milk when I saw these photos again, strange how memories work πŸ™‚

I wouldn’t mind some sunshine.

It is so dark now when it is cloudy that I need to use ISO 4000 to be able to take any photos.

Another grey and dismal day here but at least the rain is still not falling, that won’t start untill tomorrow they say. The wind blows hard too and I hope that will help my laundry that I’ve hung out to dry even though the humidity is high. This is a day made for reading or watching a movie, I’m not sure which I’ll do, I’ll decide what after the walk the dogs and I’ll take after writing this.

We walked down to the creek this morning and followed the creek upstream. Bertil followed us and when he started alarming we turned back homewards. We had been standing still at one place for a few minutes when he started so I guess wild hogs were coming our way and I doubt we would have the same luck again if we came very close to the hogs like we did last time πŸ™‚

It was quite nice out there as long as we stayed away from the wind, lots of birds are chirping and big flocks of them fly around from tree to tree looking foir mostly seeds but also bugs that hide in the bark. I filled the bird feeders when I came home, I still have plenty of seeds left from last winter and it looks like they still are good since the birds gulp them down.

So far it’s mostly Bluetits, House sparrows and Great tits by the feeders, the rest will most likely not turn up until it’s tough finding food in the forest and fields. The Bull finches will most likely not show up until there’s lots of snow covering the trees so they can’t reach the buds they like to eat.

I tried to get in to my old computer during the week. I can’t remember the pass word πŸ™‚ The lead I’ve given myself is movie. I know that it isn’t the name of the movie but something in the story. I know that as soon as I can remember what movie it is I’ll know the pass word but I can’t for my life remember what movie it is πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I was so close one morning, I was sort of sliding in and out of a dream when suddenly I started to remember what movie it is and got so exited that I woke up with a jolt and forgot it immediately πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It is time to take that walk before it gets even darker than it is now, the sun never reaches especially high here now so it gets dark very fast when the sun is gone. I have one growing, just in case.

DSC_0001

It’s a grey windy morning but without the fog they had predicted I’m sorry to say. Fog just make any day so much nicer., especially now when it’s autumn and dreary. But I guess it might be too warm for autumn fog, I’m not even sure it was this warm last year at this time and last year was warm. It stays around 7C- 10C (45F- 50F) even during the nights at the moment. Normally it should be just around 0C (32F).Β

Last winter killed a lot of my plants and I guess it was because they aren’t used to warm winters. I live on a cold spot so normally it is as cold here during winter as it is in the upper half of this country. Well, I can always get new plants and won’t complain because I like these warm winters and I guess we better get used to them since the climate is getting warmer. Not warm enough for a mango tree in the garden I’m afraid πŸ™‚ I di however have a tiny one growing by my kitchen window just in case πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I also have several passion fruit plants and am hopeful that they will produce at least a few passion fruits next summer. I’ll just plant them towards the south heading wall where the wind won’t reach them and they’ll do the rest. They and the honey bees my neighbor keeps and all the other kind of bees that lives here. All farmers here grow ecological so no pesticides are sprayed and no other poisons are allowed either, that’s why we have so many cats here and all strays that may pass by will find a home in any of the barns they might like. They’ll also be fed besides the mice eating so that they want to stay for as long as they live.

I didn't take that many photos this morning but thankfully I have plenty left of those I was supposed to show You during the week.

I also have a Poinsettia growing there. Do You remember that I bought two last winter and told You that they most likely would die within a few weeks πŸ™‚ One actually survived and is now a rather nice little bush. It is possible to make it flower year after year if one can give it absolute darkness for 14 hours every day in up to six weeks, naturally some flower anyway but never those I’ve had because they normally just die instead πŸ™‚ I think I’ll try to give it that much darkness by just putting it away in a paper bag as soon as I come home from work, even the light from a lamp is said to be too much light.

We had thick fog here one evening so I went out and took a few photos.

Nothing much has happened this week, as I guessed. The rain has kept on falling and the sky has stayed steady grey. I did however manage to get both Orvar and Hector in to the shower two nights in a row without a big struggle and a major cleaning of the bathroom and the rest of the cottage. I guess they got so shocked that they didn’t know what to do and I’m pretty sure it won’t happen again in the near future πŸ™‚ They do allow me to shower them in the garden with a hose but it was just too dark out there after work.

They have been renovating the painting machine at work these two last days and most things works as they should now but it seems the lightning we had this summer may have damaged the main computer in the machine so one or two things still needs to be worked in manual mode. I’m pretty sure that is very expensive to fix so my guess is that we will continue to work that way for quite some time, perhaps even until it is time to scrap this machine. No bright future with other words πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I think I’ve told You that the vet station I go to is sold to an animal hospital in a nearby town. I don’t like the place especially much any longer (and I’ve heard the old vet, not so old actually, had a heart attack some days ago. I do hope he’s better now). Back in the days this vet station always have had a laid back attitude, no stress and they have known all of their customers. Now it is a high-efficiency place with much higher prices and they know nothing about anyone. Even to get a recipeΒ for the old boys medicine is a big thing. It was always free before now one has to pay almost $ 15 Us just to get the recipe. Time changes I’m afraid and sometimes I just don’t want to follow if You understand how I mean πŸ™‚

Well it is a bit much to say the night is stormy here, it’s actually a bit much to say it’s night too πŸ™‚ But the rain was pouring down on my way home and the wind did blow, nothing could be seen outside the reach of the headlights of the car.

I have a pot with boiling water and round grain rice, I’m making rice porridge now. I’ll pour in milk and a cinnamon stick in a few minutes and I think I’ll add just a dust of vanilla sugar too. Rice porridge shouldn’t be too sweet but still it need some sugar or honey in it. It’ll be a nice lunch since it takes around 45 minutes until it is ready. I can’t leave the kitchen during this time because burned rice porridge is impossible to eat, not even the dogs would eat it and whenΒ they refuse it is bad πŸ™‚

I had to drive to the super market this morning. I was planning on doing it like always after work yesterday but having four tires in the trunk gives very little space for anything else, like six big packages with fire logs πŸ™‚ I could of course have placed those packages in the back seat of the car but they weigh 10kg (22 pound) each and I doubt there would have been any bigger problems getting them in to the car but out πŸ™‚ I can just see how my back would be twisted while trying to lift and pull out those packages πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I also had to get new Lotto numbers so I can win the big lottery tonight, the old numbers were just no good because I almost never won anything πŸ™‚ In this lottery we chose seven numbers between 1 and 35 and it doesn’t sounfΒ΄d that hard to get seven right then does it πŸ™‚ on each lotto form there’s also a pre printed number that we also can choose to play on or not. That one is much tougher to get any right at all πŸ™‚ but if one get seven right on the lotto and either the two first numbers or two last number on that other game one win the Dream Winning. That means at least 50 000 000 Swedish kronor (around $7142857 US). That happens so seldom that normally they win much, much more. To be honest it is impossible to win that but still, every now and again it happens. Not to me though πŸ™‚

It is grey damp and chilly outdoors and with the weak wind we also have it’s kind of nasty out there. Still, my dogs and I were out walking for a bit more than two and a half hours today. We went in to the forest on the wrong side of the creek and walked down stream. We passed that little bridge made from wood and walked the creek upstream almost all the way up to the bog. It wouldn’t have taken so long if I had walked by myself but Hector can’t walk that fast. He loves to walk still though so we just take our time. There’s no hurry, I don’t start working until Monday morning πŸ™‚

It should have been put up much earlier to be honest but this is still much earlier than it usually is put up πŸ™‚ Normally the owner remembers it the week before Christmas but his daughter has been pestering him until he finally placed it on the wall πŸ™‚ If nothing unforseen happens I’ll stay home for 18 days including the normal weekends πŸ™‚ Even though Christmas eve and new years eve aren’t holidays here we still don’t work those days and still get paid. Christmas day, boxing day, new years day and twelfth day are holidays and free from work but still paid so I only need to take six days off really. I’ll use the rest of my vacation days and one day with compensation hours. Next year won’t be that good though since Christmas starts on a Thursday πŸ™‚

It’s time for a pot of tea and something to eat. I think I’ll make some rice porridge today, the cold weather sort of demands that. I have two new movies to watch, the sci fi Elysium and the last? Die Hard movieΒ A Good Day To Die Hard.Β

I’m prepared for the arrival of King Bore.

DSC_0001

It is rapidly getting darker outside, it’s a bit foggy and down to the bones chilly. I’m so glad that it will turn towards warmer already tomorrow. But todays and yesterdays weather was a warning bell so today I have my winter tires on. I hope they will be mostly unnecessary this winter but it’s always best to be prepared for King Bore’s (a name we’ve given winter) arrival.Β

Orvar and Hector were like usual muddy when I came home, I just can’t understand how they prefer to lie down on the ground rainy and cold days when they gladly can go inside the dog house on rainy days in the summer and that they hate to get wet πŸ™‚ It’s a good thing I stop working early on Fridays. It is impossible to get any of them into the shower but I am allowed to shower them in the garden?! That is a much easier task if I actually can see what I’m doing πŸ™‚

I turned around when I was showering Hector and to my surprise I saw something rather big orangey/ pinkish beside my raised bed where I had grown tomatoes and the two pumpkin plants. At first I though it was a plastic bag but to my very big surprise it is a pumpkin πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I can’t understand how I’ve been able to miss it at all because it is rather big πŸ™‚ I think it weighs around 10kg (22 pounds) ! I’m not sure what to do with it now since Halloween is over but it does look good on the entrance stairs πŸ™‚

And with the mail came a tiny, almost empty little box.

DSC_0022

We did get snow but not even so much that it stayed on the ground and it has been rather much warmer than predicted so I’m quite happy πŸ™‚ It was rather chilly yesterday evening though but I couldn’t feel the smell of snow as I always do before it starts and it isn’t that surprising since it didn’t star to snow here until early this morning. After that the snowfall has come and gone without leaving a single trace that it even was here.

I’ve heard that it was much worse in eastern Sweden though with lots of accidents, no one has died so far from what I understand. That however is just a matter of time, we all seems to be surprised about this white garbage falling from the sky πŸ™‚ I’ll get my winter tires on tomorrow after work, the law says we must have it if there is winter conditions on the road from December first. It usually is so it is time to put them on now.

I am a bit annoyed at the moment, You know I ordered Word for my computer and thought I would get a cd with Word so I didn’t have to do anything more than to download it into the computer. Oh no! It’s just a tiny almost empty box and in that box there’s card with a code printed on it. To get Word I now have to get an account on Microsoft and download it from there!!! I don’t want an account on Microsoft, that only means a lot of e-mails telling me about all the products they want me to buy that I neither want nor need.

Ok, it says I should download Word in to all theΒ computers I have in my home so it is unfortunate that I only have two πŸ™‚ at least with a working internet in them πŸ™‚ It would still have been so much better with a cd but now I’ve bought it so I better bite in the sour apple as we say here in Sweden.

It is time for a big cup of cocoa and I have bought three ciabatta that I’ll eat now too. Today I think I’ll have beetroot salad, meatballs, ham and cheese on them, perhaps not ham and meatballs on the same sandwich though πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

So calm.

DSC_0041

It’s very calm outside and I guess it is the calm before the storm. To be honest we’ll only have gale here but that’s enough when it also will rain a lot and also snow a lot at the same time. But the predictions have changed slightly. We’ll most likely get less snow than they first predicted but colder and with more rain. I don’t like the combination rain and cold, it sort of invites to slippery roads and car crashes. The snow won’t start to fall until early Thursday night.

DSC_0043

But I think the roads will be warm enough so that no black ice shows up, well black ice never show really πŸ™‚ It will stay chilly until Saturday when it gets warmer again. I don’t like this but the Farmer’s Almanac says that if snow falls on unfrozen ground the winter will be mild so I hope that’s right πŸ™‚ We had a very mild winter last year and I would not complain if we got one more πŸ™‚

Nothing much has happened here to be honest. The only thing I’m interested in now is how it goes in the US elections. I hear worrying things, that the republicans might get majority in both places. Normally that would perhaps not be something to worry about but since the Tea party took over it definitely is something to worry about. Those people do scare me and I feel they are no better than the Taliban’s in Afghanistan. I can only hope that there still are some sensible people left in the republican party that might be able to do something.

It’s time for a pot of tea, something to eat and to keep that fire burning in the stove, from now on the temperature will start to drop.

Raindrops keep falling on my head but it’s better than snowflakes.

DSC_0002

The rain has been falling most parts of the day and it is pouring down at the moment too. Can’t say I like it but it’s better than snow anyway. But we will most likely get snow from Wednesday evening through big parts of Thursday. Strong winds are predicted too but no degrees below 0C (31F) so it will most likely melt as soon as it hits the ground. After that warmer winds will reach us again and already by Friday evening it will turn back to more or less what we’re having now.

The very odd program All for Sweden is back on tv again. It’s originally a Norwegian idea. They bring over some people from the USA with Swedish back ground and they compete to win a meeting with their Swedish relatives. It is a bit sadistic to be honest, they travel around this country and they will all see the place where the person/ persons that left Sweden grew up and lived. Each week one of them get tossed out if they lose a competition, different each week and has nothing to do with what they actually might know of this country, just so that all have an equal chance of winning or loosing. But to be fair to the program. Everyone that must leave will get a family tree and all information they could find about their Swedish family back in the days. It can go back several hundred years because the churches kept notes of all that happened to us during our lives.

What do we Swedes learn from this program? Well it seems people from the US cries for almost everything Β πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ They cry if they win, they cry if they lose. They cry when someone has to leave and they cry when they are at the place where their ancestors lived πŸ™‚ They cry even more when they read how difficult life was back in the days, of course it was otherwise they most likely wouldn’t emigrate in the first place. Normally they have a few that cries more than the others but this year they have found a bunch of Americans that cries all the time πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t cry if I saw the place where my Serbian grandfather lived or where my Russian ancestors on my mother’s side lived either.

But I must admit that I like this program and one do get favorites that one wish will go all the way and get the chance to meet their Swedish family. But still, it is a bit sadistic to just let them go home before getting a chance to get what they want even if they get that family tree and all the info. Especially when it comes to the three last ones. Just imagine how it must feel to become second or third on that last day and to know how close it was that they had won.

So much cheaper!

Sorbus domestica.

Sorbus domestica.

We’re having a rather nice morning here again today, some sunshine, some haze, a little wind and noΒ rain. As always I expected no one else to be out there because almost all people in this village seems to sleep for as long as possible on weekends. Well the farmers with animals must of course be up but they don’t walk in to the forest early in the morning. So I got a bit annoyed when I saw a red car drive to where I wanted to go, down by the creek. There was no sign that anyone would be out hunting but still, this is my mornings πŸ™‚

It looked a bit promising for a while but the fog turned to haze after just a short while.

It was a hunter but it turned out that he only was there to gather some timber because they will build a new hunting tower where they know wild hogs are quite often. He told me that my little friend from the forest, that huge boar, most likely is shot now. He was even bigger than we thought, 183kg (403,5 pounds). I felt a bit sad when I heard it because he was magnificent. Also because I’ve read that boars that big never attacks unless they really must, they know how big and dangerous they are so they know it usually is enough to just stand where they are, that’s impressive enough for most of us πŸ™‚

DSC_0008

DSC_0009

Then he told me that they had shot an even bigger one not far from here, that boar weighed 250kg (551,2 pounds) πŸ™‚ If I ever see another wild hog that close again I do hope I’ll be ready with the camera and I hope I’m sitting in a car. Not that I think I would be safe in there if a boar would try to attack it though πŸ™‚ They are massive and very strong πŸ™‚

I remember when I bought my first computer, so many programs that came with it! Today we get nothing to be honest but have to down load what we want from an app store, really annoying! Lost of those programs are for free and reasonable good to be honest. But I wanted something like office, just the Word part to be honest but there’s nothing like that in the app store, not for free I mean. But I could buy Office that way. So I was directed to Microsoft’s web site and I have to admit that it was rather expensive, over 800 swedish kronor (over $ 114 US) but I thought I might as well buy it from there. But then I needed a Microsoft account which I actually have but have forgotten passwords and everything πŸ™‚

We went over to the other side of the creek when walking back homewards. When I moved here that part of the forest looked magical and it was easy to believe in all those beings in our fairy tales :-) They have thinned out the forest a lot there now but there are still a few places that reminds of how it once looked.

So I checked the web store I usually go to when I need anything and it turns out they sold it for over 200 Swedish kronor (around $ 29 US) cheaper than Microsoft??!! It’s the exact same deal but so much cheaper! So guess where I bought it πŸ™‚ I’ve done my chores for today and I found my clothes pins in the cabinet above the fridge πŸ™‚ So now the wind can blow as it wish because my clothes will stay on the clothes line πŸ™‚

I was hoping for fog.

DSC_0004

They had predicted fog for this morning which I found a bit odd since they also predicted rather strong winds, those two rarely come at the same time. Just an hour before the fog would arrive they changed the prediction to cloudy but still windy. The morning was a bit dark and cloudy but we got sunshine, some haze and very weak winds the rest of the day πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ and it wasΒ rather wonderful πŸ™‚ They predict fog for tomorrow too, with strong winds so I wonder how much sunshine we’ll get πŸ™‚

I took a walk all by myself after being out with the dogs and Bertil. I brought the Hasselblad camera with me and the “new” light meter. I must admit that even if it is nice to not have to think about what the dogs are doing while I’m trying to adjust the camera and finally take a photo I do miss them πŸ™‚ Instead of taking it easy and take my time I start rushing instead, I miss them too much out there πŸ™‚ It’s so much fun though to use this old camera πŸ™‚

I have a buck walking around in my garden as soon as it gets dark, I’m not sure which one though because I’ve only seen him once for a short time. I hear him every evening when I open the door to let out the dogs and or the cats. He’s never in a hurry while getting out from the garden though, I can hear that he walks slowly and neither the dogs nor he seems to be bothered by being there at the same time. It’s almost like it was with old Doris the Doe. She never cared to walk away when we were outside and one night I accidentally stumbled right over her when I didn’t see her sleeping just outside my door πŸ™‚ I miss that old lady.
