As soon as we came back inside the cottage after our morning walk the sun started to show itself through the clouds. Too bad it didn’t while we were outside because even if it is only just below 0C (32F) the wind make it feel soo much colder. But it was a fairly nice walk anyway to be honest. The dogs were following tracks like crazy but I had both Sune and Nova in leashes because if the wolf would be around here I know that at least Sune would run as fast as he could to greet him 🙂
I doubt it still hangs around though, I’ve seen no tracks so far and they usually just continue southwards fairly soon. It would be cool to catch one with my camera though 🙂 I did see a few flocks of migrating swans but that was it on the animal front this morning. But I can see lots of small birds in my garden now since I’ve started to fill the feeders again for the season. We normally don’t feed the birds during summer here but I have heard that they now days also sell seeds during summer time too.
I’m hoping the wind will calm down some because I want to put net over some plants I want to protect towards hungry deers. I also would like to clean up after the dogs but I have tomorrow too to do that since this is my Saturday, I only worked over time yesterday if I could take the Monday of, otherwise I never would have done it 🙂 But this will still be my laundry day so I’ll start doing that in a minute or two. Perhaps the wind will dry it at least some before I take it in later today again 🙂
But firstly I’ll have some rice porridge, it’s boiling at the stove right now. I think it needs at least twenty more minutes until it’s ready so I’ll have a cup of coffee until then.
Have a nice first of Advent!
I thought it would have been better to die than to go up this morning 🙂 I can’t remember when I was that tired before but up and away we went like a normal work day. It is a while since I painted in that way so I have to say my painting was a bit wobbly 🙂 At first I had too little thinner so I poured in some more and suddenly I painted like I’m used to. But then I had to refill with more paint and took a bit too much thinner in the paint and the wobbly result showed again 🙂
The important thing is that everything is covered on these things, they are some kind of concrete molds and very huge, so it doesn’t matter if the paint ran here and there. The paint will most likely be scraped as soon as they start using these molds anyway 🙂 We were ready to go home much earlier than expected thankfully and now my weekend starts. The weather hasn’t been close to as cold (rather chilly anyway to be honest) as they said but at least as cloudy. But it did snow some when we went to work and some was still left on the ground when we came home.
We took a walk as soon as we came home and all the dogs got really interested in a scent on the ground and followed the tracks very thoroughly. It could have been the wolf passing there but it can also be wild hogs I guess. No more sightings from what I’ve heard anyway, too bad I would loved to see it before it continued on its journey south. They always seems to continue south and never stop here for any longer period of time.
Something that is really popular on Facebook here is to show photos of hunting dogs that have been killed by wolves and of course they want us to feel sorry for not the dog but the owners that have lost a family member. No one questions how these owners have acted at all! They know there are wolves in the area and they know the wolves will kill their dogs if they run in to each other! Still they let the dogs out and when they are killed they cry publicly over how evil wolves are! I think that anyone that willingly let out their dog in to an area where they know there are wolves should be prosecuted for animal abuse or cruelty towards animals!! How in the h… stupid are they if they do that??? They should never more be allowed to have or be near a dog again after doing something like that!
It is time to feed us all again and after that I think I’ll fall asleep on the couch watching something boring on tv 🙂
Have a great day!
The morning was a bit chilly and very foggy so the road to work was a bit slippery. No bigger problems as long as one drove at the legal speed though. No problems either if ones dogs could just lay still where they are supposed to lay still but Nova insisted on leaning her head towards mine almost the entire way 🙂 and Sune wanted to have his head on my arm to get some attention too.
The dogs followed me to work because we were going to the vet at 9 am so they could get their vaccinations. They get that every second year but the girl at the reception insisted me on going every year to get a vaccination against kennel flu which is totally unnecessary since we almost never meet any other dogs here. I told her that I really didn’t care what she wanted, they were going to have the same as they always get. The vet didn’t think the kennel flu vaccination was especially necessary either 🙂
She was fantastic with the dogs, they didn’t even notice that she gave them the shot! Sune is a screamer otherwise when it comes to that but he was just happy that she seemed to like him so much 🙂 Sune is also a peer, he pees as soon as he think I’m angry at him or when he get really stressed about something, like when I try to entangle the leashes because he has twined them together by never walking a straight line 🙂 If I try to entangle the leashes without telling him how good he is when I try to lift him over the leashes or beneath them he starts peeing like crazy 🙂 🙂 🙂 He is no big city dog, that’s for sure.
Unfortunately the factory owner caught me when we came back from the vet and wanted me to work tomorrow to paint with real paint because we’re very much behind. Our ordinary painter is home on sick leave until at least January 2nd, it seems he has been walking around with a broken foot for almost half a year and that only because the doctors refused to x-ray his foot, they prefered to say that he most likely had had a small thrombus in the foot. We have a young guy painting instead of him but he isn’t used to this and a bit slow yet but is a great painter, So he will work on Sunday and I tomorrow.
I won’t be alone in the factory though, a work friend will also be there driving the forklift truck because the things I’ll paint are very big. I had one demand though, I would only work tomorrow if I could have Monday free 🙂 He really was in no position to say no since these things must be painted until Monday 🙂 I need two days off from work, especially now when it is so dark all day.
It is time for us all to have something to eat, I already have a cup of tea by my side. The Yule cards are ordered and I hope I’ll have them some time early next week. My neighbor think he saw a wolf here last Wednesday, he can’t be for sure though. It was dark outside and he only saw it in the light from his flash light, it was bigger than Orvar though so it must have been a young wolf and not a dog walking around by himself. Didn’t see any on our walk today though. II think I’ll stay outside now in the morning while the dogs do their business, just in case. By the way, I’m not hijacked any longer 🙂
Have a great day!
Well I’m not sure if it is only me or the entire National Geographic in the USA. I get a message that the site I’m trying to get in to is hijacked by the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) and I can’t log out or so anything. I don’t have the mail address to NG either so I can’t contact them but I’ve sent a message to Caryn that comes here every day and hope that she can help me by contacting NG. Rather annoying normally when something like this happens but today I had a rather nice photo to post there and can’t do it 🙂
You see, I got my cd with the photos I sent in monday morning to be developed 🙂 I really can’t complain about them being slow, can I 🙂 🙂 The photos taken with the normal lens were almost all slightly overexposed. Well not really because the motive looked good but the sky that can be seen is over exposed 🙂 Almost all taken with the telephoto lens were good and those taken under exposed were really good 🙂 So now I know how I must think and adjust the camera after how the light meter shows. Two of the photos were very over exposed so those I’ve edited rather much but I’ll write beneath those that they were edited a lot 🙂
We’ve had a mostly clear day with sunshine and now the temperature is dropping. I had to scrape ice from the front car window when I was going home but all the other windows were just fine?! I’m pretty sure I’ll have to scrape more than the front tomorrow morning though, it is already below 0C (32F) and the sky is still clear. I don’t mind if it gets a bit colder as long as we don’t get snow or black ice. There was black ice in the village where I work but all other roads were just fine.
Now it’s time for a pot of tea and then I’ll order my Yule cards. I had one that I really liked amongst those I got today, so I won’t show that one until Yule eve here 🙂 With a bit of luck I’ll send them in time so You on the other side of the ocean will get them before Yule eve.
Have a great day!
I’ve worked two hour over time and I’ve paid my bills so the rest of the evening is chore free. You might wonder how I can write this at the usual time of a working day if I have worked two hours with over time? Well it is simple, I got up at 3:45 this morning and started working two hours earlier than normal. I like it better than to come home two hours later. I still have the evening like always and can do what ever I need to do. It’s also very nice to be able to have a fire burning in the stove for a couple of hours before going to bed.
The night was a bit chilly so I had to scrape the car windows before leaving and the roads were covered with black ice here and there but only for short distances thankfully. I saw a lot more deers close to the road than I usually do and even if IO like seeing them I don’t want them close to the road. The dogs didn’t care about them at all though 🙂 They were in my team leaders office all day and I forgot that they hadn’t had a chance to do their business before going in to the factory, so Sune peed on the floor after a while 🙂 No carpet in there so it was an easy clean up.
The sun shone all day and I enjoyed every second I got outside every time I went out with the dogs 🙂 We were in one of the forgotten gardens and even Nova could be without a leash there, she and Sune chased each other my entire lunch break so they slept like babies for the rest of the day 🙂 I sat on an old stair in the sunlight just enjoying the day and the old boys walked around sniffing on every tree and bush they could find and there are plenty of trees and bushes there. Too bad we had to go inside again.
So now we’re home again and my feet are killing me, especially my toes seems to want to end it all 🙂 The fire is burning in the stove and I feel ready for the bed 🙂 But I’ll stay up until normal bed time otherwise we’ll only wake up in the middle of the night and then I’ll be just as tired tomorrow 🙂
Have a great day!
Nova woke me up at 3 am this morning, someone had thrown up by the entrance door and most likely needed to do it again. All dogs ran out and I cleaned the floor while waiting for them to come in again. I couldn’t fall asleep properly after that so I am a bit tired today. I also went down into the cool cellar and watered the plants I have there, it isn’t especially cold there yet so they still need some water. I could hear the wind roar but it was absolutely calm in my garden.
When I came home and opened the door an awful smell hit me in my face. I had to shower the big boys so what ever it was that smelled had to wait until I had done that. Even when I shower them in the garden I have warm water, I just connect the garden hose to the kitchen water tap so I really can’t see why they prefer to shower outdoors. But I managed to get them in to the bathroom even though Orvar did protest some by sitting down 🙂
I took then outside again so they could shake off most of the water, well some anyway and went inside again to find from where that awful smell came. Then I suddenly heard a cat somewhere, it turns out Teodor had followed me into the cellar this morning and I had locked him in 🙂 There are some really big pots with lots of soil in them so I can’t for my life understand why he pooped on the floor?! Cat poop smells really awful 🙂 I won’t know where he peed until one of the plants die I guess because that he does in the pots. He has killed some plants in my home by doing that. It doesn’t smell when he does it but I caught him in action one day so now I know why those plants suddenly died 🙂 Good forbid that he actually would use the cat litter box 🙂
I put the envelope with the two rolls of film in the mailbox today and I’m really looking forward to see how these photos turns out. I think I might have at least two really good photos but I won’t know until they send me an e-mail with a link to a site where I can see them long before they arrive here in my mailbox. I’ll bring the dogs with me because I’ll work over time but I’ll write something here in the blog anyway.
Have a great day!
I know it’s dumb to trust weather predictions but they say we’ll get sunshine on Tuesday and lots of fog on Wednesday. I wouldn’t be surprised if they come true because they are working days when I won’t be able to go outside anyway 🙂 It will also stay warm for a few more days but it looks like we’ll get colder and perhaps sunnier weather during the weekend. But that’s so far away that I just as well could ask a fish if that will happen 🙂 It seems they barely can predict the weather for more than an hour ahead despite their mega big and fantastic computers.
They have been right about today though, grey and dull and a bit more windy than it was yesterday. I met the hunters yesterday when they were going home and we were going out for a walk. They don’t like trophy hunters, the ones that shoot deers and big wild hogs just because they want to put up something on their walls at home, they like me think that hunting is for controlling how many deers, moose and hogs there are out there in the forest so that they don’t become too many and later on starve to death or die from diseases they wouldn’t get if they weren’t too many.
They also told me that One Eyed Rune most likely is dead now, by old age. They had found a dead one-eyed deer in the forest with no injuries. He was old so that’s no surprise but I’ll miss the old buck. None has seen Longhorn in a long while, they really wanted to get rid of that one since he injured other deers with his sharp antlers, I guess the lynx took him first. There’s also a new boar ruling in the forest, he’s smaller than the previous one but seems big enough to know he’s in charge. He had passed one of the hunters while he sat in a hunting tower, studied the hunter for a while and then slowly walked in to the forest again 🙂 It’s strange but they seems to understand when the hunter hasn’t a big enough rifle to shoot them because when they have no hog is to be seen 🙂
A fire is burning in the stove and I have a big cup of tea by my side. Soon it’s time to take another walk and after that to see if the laundry has dried because it is hanging outside on the patio. I doubt it is dry though, the wind is blowing but it is chilly enough to keep it wet I’m afraid. Tomorrow I’ll send the two rolls of film to be developed, this time I’m really looking forward to see the result because I think I have a few pretty good photos, perhaps one might be good enough to become the Yule card. If so You might get the card a bit late this year 🙂
Have a great day!
Something is very wrong and nothing prepared me for this! The sun is shining! They didn’t predict this at all, on the contrary, so now I think I need to go to my car to get my sunglasses 🙂 I had to hang a big towel to cover the window in the kitchen door since it was impossible to see what I was writing on my laptop 🙂 and I couldn’t see much og the photos I took this morning either before the towel came up 🙂 I am however very pleased with this weather and I better enjoy it because a new low pressure is waiting to fly over my country and we might even get some snow tonight but that will melt away long before I wake up.
It got slightly cold during the night since the sky cleared up and as lowest it hit -3C (26,6F) but with the help of the sun it now is balmy 3C (37,4F) 🙂 But it wasn’t cold long enough to make any frost even if we had really thick fog. It started think and by the time we came out for our morning walk it thinned out a lot but suddenly even thicker fog rolled in over the fields again. Too bad that it is hunting day today because it also looked as if it was very thick in the forest and by the bog. Of course no hunter went out hunting in the fog, they wouldn’t have seen anything anyway but fog can vanish fast and if it does they’ll go out and that’s not a good time to wander around out there 🙂
The fog was still around when we came home after our walk so I left the dogs in the cottage and went out for a walk, the exact same one I’ve just walked, with my Hasselblad camera. I did exactly what the light meter told me when I took the previous roll of film but today I under exposed some photos and used the telephoto lens all the time. For You not familiar with under expose means it means I made the photos slightly darker by letting the shutter work a bit faster than what the light meter told me. It might work really good but can also be a total failure by making the photos almost totally black 🙂
As many of You know we Swedes don’t say that winter (or any other season) starts at a special month, we go only on average temperature. We say summer begins when the average temperature is above 10C (50F) for an entire week (winter is when the temperature is below 0C (32F) during a week) . But I would like to say that even if we actually still is on summer and autumn temperatures here in southern Sweden winter started this weekend because so did the cross-country ski world cup and the ski biathlon world cup. From now on that will be shown on tv as soon as someone thinks about skiing 🙂
I emptied the big water barrels I have in my garden yesterday and brought in the gold fishes and the koi carps. One koi was dead but all the others were just fine. The water smelled nasty but it is after all more or less aquarium water since the fish have lived there since spring. I had planned to have them in a plastic bucket all night so they slowly could adjust to the temperature here in the cottage but I hadn’t noticed the thin crack in the bottom of the bucket but I did when I walked in the water that had leaked out on the bathroom floor, so they had to move in a bit earlier than I had hoped. But they all looked fine this morning so I hope they all feel fine too.
It’s time for a pot of tea and then a walk, hopefully in the forest. The hunters are usually not that patient so they should be out of there before 1pm. But they did bring a dog today and I guess they all might stay out there until it has returned to its owner. It has been very quiet though so I doubt it has been running around especially much before they gave up.
Have a great day!
Multisport is one of the toughest sports in the world and the World championship took place in Ecuador last week. It includes several days of running, biking and white water rafting and Sweden did of course send a team to participate in it. They were four travelling to the championship but five returning. The team was resting high up in the mountains when a street dog suddenly came for a visit, he was dirty and hurt and looked hungry so one of the team members gave him a meatball because he had just opened a tin with meatballs to have as dinner.
He didn’t think more of it but the dog did 🙂 He decided to become a member of the team and started to follow them and they named him Arthur. No matter how deep the mud they were running through was he just continued and he didn’t care that they were forcing through jungles either (well Swedish meatballs aren’t famous for nothing 🙂 and he was probably the first human to ever be kind to the dog ). But then they came to the white water rafting, (70 km (43,5 miles)) sorry, it was 700km (435 miles nothing else) all in the functionary team said that they had to leave him so they prepared to say good bye.
Well Arthur thought otherwise, Swedish meatballs are after all rather delicious :-), and started to swim after the rafts. One of the team members then stopped and went back after the dog and placed him on his raft (I guess all team members thought the same) and lend the dog his jacket. Every now and again Arthur jumped in to the river to get a fish and when he returned the team member put his jacket around him. He said it was a bit hard to paddle with a dog in his lap but he just couldn’t leave the dog.
He had already decided to bring the dog with him home to Sweden when he crossed the finish line but we do have very strict rules when it comes to bring a dog to this country from outside the EU. He called Swedish authorities and first they said ok but then they changed their minds because they read in the news papers that the dog was injured and thought it might be too much for the dog to fly all that way. Also, the dog wasn’t vaccinated towards rabies and that’s a must. He didn’t have a micro chip either so they could identify him when he arrived and if he was coming here he would have to sit in quarantine for four months and that costs a fortune.
It is amazing what people can do when they want something. They found a vet that vaccinated Arthur and also gave him that vaccine and cleared him for transport to Sweden. But there was still no ok from Sweden. Finally the minister of social affairs in Ecuador helped and they got the last paper for an ok from Sweden 20 minutes before liftoff 🙂 Yesterday the dog and the team arrived to Sweden 🙂 They think Arthur is seven years old and I do wonder what he will think of our winters after living in Ecuador all his life 🙂 My guess is that the quarantine cost will be enormous (around 50 000 swedish kronor, around $7150 US) but so many people have loved this story that I guess that he will get financially help from lots of people here.
Here is a link to the Swedish article with photos of the dog, the new owner and the entire team. Arthur!
Have a great day!
The fire is burning in the stove again, it didn’t last evening because the chimney sweeper came here today and I never have a fire in the stove the day before that person arrives. They don’t vacuum hot ashes, which is fully understandable and I only had a plastic bucket to spare for ashes. Not a good thing if the ashes still is hot 🙂 I normally never stay at home when they come here, instead I leave the doors unlocked. I would never do that if I lived in a village or town but no one finds this place even if they have a map or follows the directions from a GPS 🙂 🙂 🙂
It seems as if the panic Orvar and Hector always had when I tried to get them in to the shower is gone now. They won’t go in there willingly and they try to refuse for a while but it is actually possible to shower them indoors now 🙂 So much easier now in winter since it is pitch black outdoors and trying to hold a flash light at the same time I must hold a dog and shower it at the same time is a bit tricky 🙂 I have to clean the entire bathroom after they have been in there, oh the joy of having big dirty dogs 🙂 🙂
We might get frost this weekend so I’ll load my Hasselblad camera with film and hope for the best. It would be nice to get some frost photos with that camera or some fog photos but it lately we’ve only had fog when it is a work day and we haven’t had much frost at all to be honest. Winter will come but I already have one roll of film waiting to be shipped to be processed. It would also be fun to get some photos with sunlight in them, I can’t remember when I saw the sun shine the last time 🙂
Talking about photos! I must find a Yule card photo now! I thought I had lots of time to do that but now I’m a bit late. I would like a fun photo but I’ll take what I can get since I have so little time left to do it. It will most likely not be taken with the Hasselblad camera though 🙂 I can’t even pretend those photos are good enough yet 🙂
It’s time for a pot of tea and perhaps something to eat as well. Tomorrow’s Friday and a short working day and I was thinking I would look through all the old photos to see if I should post any here.
