So much cheaper!

Sorbus domestica.

Sorbus domestica.

We’re having a rather nice morning here again today, some sunshine, some haze, a little wind and noΒ rain. As always I expected no one else to be out there because almost all people in this village seems to sleep for as long as possible on weekends. Well the farmers with animals must of course be up but they don’t walk in to the forest early in the morning. So I got a bit annoyed when I saw a red car drive to where I wanted to go, down by the creek. There was no sign that anyone would be out hunting but still, this is my mornings πŸ™‚

It looked a bit promising for a while but the fog turned to haze after just a short while.

It was a hunter but it turned out that he only was there to gather some timber because they will build a new hunting tower where they know wild hogs are quite often. He told me that my little friend from the forest, that huge boar, most likely is shot now. He was even bigger than we thought, 183kg (403,5 pounds). I felt a bit sad when I heard it because he was magnificent. Also because I’ve read that boars that big never attacks unless they really must, they know how big and dangerous they are so they know it usually is enough to just stand where they are, that’s impressive enough for most of us πŸ™‚

Then he told me that they had shot an even bigger one not far from here, that boar weighed 250kg (551,2 pounds) πŸ™‚ If I ever see another wild hog that close again I do hope I’ll be ready with the camera and I hope I’m sitting in a car. Not that I think I would be safe in there if a boar would try to attack it though πŸ™‚ They are massive and very strong πŸ™‚

I wonder what animal is using this hole by the creek. A water vole perhaps. Ratty in The wind isn the willows is a water vole even if he is called a rat.

I remember when I bought my first computer, so many programs that came with it! Today we get nothing to be honest but have to down load what we want from an app store, really annoying! Lost of those programs are for free and reasonable good to be honest. But I wanted something like office, just the Word part to be honest but there’s nothing like that in the app store, not for free I mean. But I could buy Office that way. So I was directed to Microsoft’s web site and I have to admit that it was rather expensive, over 800 swedish kronor (over $ 114 US) but I thought I might as well buy it from there. But then I needed a Microsoft account which I actually have but have forgotten passwords and everything πŸ™‚

We went over to the other side of the creek when walking back homewards. When I moved here that part of the forest looked magical and it was easy to believe in all those beings in our fairy tales :-) They have thinned out the forest a lot there now but there are still a few places that reminds of how it once looked.

So I checked the web store I usually go to when I need anything and it turns out they sold it for over 200 Swedish kronor (around $ 29 US) cheaper than Microsoft??!! It’s the exact same deal but so much cheaper! So guess where I bought it πŸ™‚ I’ve done my chores for today and I found my clothes pins in the cabinet above the fridge πŸ™‚ So now the wind can blow as it wish because my clothes will stay on the clothes line πŸ™‚

Square photos means Hasselblad photos :-) After these I only have three more photos to show You but more is on the way to be developped :-)

  1. So after they kill the boar, do they eat him? I suppose that’s the goal.
I never buy directly from anyone anymore because Amazon or eBay always has a better deal.
Today is the day we turn back clocks and gain an hour. I didn’t gain any extra sleep though….😣 thanks to my dogs!

    • Hi Cindi!

Yes they do. It’s so hard to get anywhere to hunt here so we don’t have those people that hunt for sport. Those that like that go abroad to hunt instead.

I can’t understand why it is like that! It should be cheaper if one buy directly from the makers ofb the program! I’m glad I didn’t remember anything about my Microsoft account πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I think I got up at the same time we always do when we canged time, even the dogs slept like normal πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!

    Hi Christer,
My Mac didn’t come with much that I find useful except iPhoto, iTunes, Mail and Safari and the first two have their issues. It came with Garage Band. Ooooo. :/ It didn’t come with the Apple equivalent of Office. Had to buy the Pages, Numbers and Keynote package which is Apple office. At least it was much much cheaper because I bought it at the same time as I got the laptops. Upgrades are not free, though.

I think the Hasselblads look old because, as you said yesterday, they are a bit over exposed for the sky but also I think the resolution is not so good as digital. Maybe it’s just the conversion to digital that makes it look that way?

I’m sorry your little friend got high speed lead poisoning. On the other hand, the idea that there was an even bigger little friend somewhere nearby is kind of scary. Two little friends who are sort of close in size would not necessarily be standing around impressing each other. They’d know it would have to come down to a fight. Wouldn’t want to come across that on my morning dog walk. πŸ™‚

My weather is just as awful today as it was yesterday. Cold, windy, rainy, dark. Piki Dog decided that he kind of likes cold, windy, rainy, dark and took his sweet time finding a proper pooping place. Then he wanted to run around and play with the wind and rain. Rocky and I were grumps and just wanted to get inside with the warmth.

Now it’s time for me to have something HOT for breakfast to ward off the chill.
    Enjoy the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

Ooooo Garage band πŸ™‚ I didn’t even get the games like patience πŸ™‚ I’ll get free upgrades for a year but since I only really want Word I really don’t care about those updates πŸ™‚

I think the resolution get a bit bad since they are scanned in to the cd and lots of data always get lost on the way when one do something with the photo. But I guess that the digital cameras finally have passed the old ones when it comes to picture quality and since they really don’t care to do anything more with the films I guess this is what we’ll get until they stop making films.

It is a bit sad but as You say, there seems to be some really big ones out there πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ and yes they would have had to fight if they felt it was the only way out. Meeting a wounded boar in that size would be the last thing one did πŸ™‚

Piki Dog is just like Nova, it takes forever to fiund that pefect spot she needs to poop πŸ™‚ But she doesn’t like rain, wind and colkd weather thankfully πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

Well, now it is snowing sideways. I let Rocky out to enjoy the first snow of the season. Piki Dog sat on the porch and shivered. Refused to have anything to do with it. Wouldn’t even come near the door to feel the snow. If it’s still snowing by afternoon walk time, it will be an interesting walk, I don’t think. πŸ™‚

        November 2, 2014 at 5:29 pm

      • I’m so glad that it’s You that have the snow and not I πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Has he ever experienced snow? It must be a chock to see this cold white garbage covering the ground and himself πŸ™‚

Hi Christer! Sorry to hear that they killed the big boar(s). Do the hunters eat the meat? Wonder if it tastes like pork? That is an amazing size that they get to!!! Wow. πŸ™‚ Those Hassleblad photos are just incredible! You can certainly tell the difference – they almost look like they have been painted. Lovely photos today! We have had incredible winds lately – now only a few leaves linger on the trees. Everything else is bare! Winter is coming! Have a good Sunday!

    November 2, 2014 at 2:30 pm

    • Hi Dianna!

Yes they do eat the meat and it is sort of similar to pork but still not. One can feel the wild in the meat if You understand how I mean. They sell it every now and again in the supermarket but it is insanely expensive to be honest. Our wild hogs are smaller than the ones one find down in Europe πŸ™‚ Those are truly big πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

They do look different than modern cameras photos does, sort of oldish but I like it.

So nice weather here today, lost of sunshine and warm winds, like a spring day with autumn smells πŸ™‚

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. amazing size the wild Boar can reach!!! They are such scary looking beasts, truly the king of your forest, I don’t suppose they have any predators other than man, that must be why they hate people,,

    November 2, 2014 at 2:31 pm

    • Hi Laurie!

Still, our wild hogs are mush smaller than the ones living down in Europe! Those are truly big and very dangerous if pissed off πŸ™‚

The only predator besides us humans are wolves and we don’t have specially man here in southern Sweden. I don’t think they hate us but they know we can be dangerous. I think only humans are capable of hating, animals are smarter than that. They usually run away if they can hear us comming so I usually talk loudly with my dogs when I walk in wild hog areas.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

      • You’ve not seen Rocky when he has spied a coyote or a cat. Hate is the word that describes him best at those times. πŸ™‚

        November 2, 2014 at 5:30 pm

      • Nova only get crazy when she sees a hare πŸ™‚ She just can’t stand them πŸ™‚ Foxes that is the wildest we have here besides hogs is nothing she cares about at all πŸ™‚

    Hi Christer –
    ou
I am hoping the bore survives the hunting groups. Any animal that has managed to grow to that large for that long – it would be an injustice to end his life by shooting him. Maybe he will manage to elude the hunters for another year. A wild bore belongs in the forest not on someone’s dinner plate.

Microsoft always seems to charge the highest prices for their own products I have noticed. Windows and Norton Security products that I purchased are also priced higher than anywhere else. It always used to be that the company that made a product gave you the best deal, but that stopped being true a few years ago. Now they just hope you come to them to make the purchase without doing any price comparison. I get most of my software off ebay or an overstock liquidator, but several years ago I started using price comparison websites like Shopzilla or Nextag to find the lowest price on what I need. The laptop I bough 6 yrs. ago came loaded with about $700 worth of software most of which I used like Photoshop, Elements, Office and some dumb games, but the games were the only thing I didn’t use. In less than a yr. the motherboard fried. It would have been $300 to replace it and take 2 weeks to repair. By then the price of laptops had decreased a few hundred US dollars, but had much larger memory and the newer processors. I also noticed that no software was pre-loaded. The sales-geek told me that HP and other manufacturers of laptops had decided they would rather sell more computers by lowering the price. At the same time the software prices increased to compensate for the computer companies not paying them for all the software they used to pre-load onto laptops as part of your purchase. I have used the free trial of Word & Office. Almost any of the most used software programs have 1-3 month free trials. Just enter “Word free trial 2014” and it usually easy to get the download.

I can see that your Hasselblad photos are improving quite a bit each time you show a few. At first they look like they were taken with a regular camera other than the square shape, but there is a quality to the photos from the Hasselblad that I can’t find the precise word to best describe, other than to say there is a dream-like quality to them as of viewing the trees through crystal clear water. The depth of color you achieved looks great too. Much deeper & richer than the 1st photos you shot.
Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. Since it was clear skies, as soon as the twilight came, the temps dropped quickly and we had our first real cold night with frost. Today it rained off & on. It would have been a perfect day for watching movies and napping on the couch, but I had to get my election ballots done for Tuesday voting. Oregon is the only state where you just mail in your secret ballot, but I procrastinated as usual and now I need to drop it off at a drop off site like the library down the road.
Have a great week at work.

    November 3, 2014 at 8:52 am

    • Hi Ellen!

I hope so too but I’m afraid it might be the one they shot the other week.
But we do have problems with our wild hogs now, not their fault but problems we have. So many are now killed or injured by cars and some have actually attacked people. In someplaces they have moved in to bigger twons because they know they can’t be shot there πŸ™‚ They are smart! and they do destroy big fields witnb crops during summer. They are becoming too many and since we have very few wolves here in southern Sweden we need to shot some of them and when we do the least we can do is to eat them and not just throw them away. But I do like my little friend in the forest πŸ™‚

I did wonder why it was more expensive to buy the software fromn the producer, now I know why! I can understand that people rather buy a cheaper computer and then add those programs they really want but it must be more expensive that way. We have similar web sites that compares prices here so I use them when I need to. I was thinking of using the free trial month but since I want the program anyway I might as well buy it directly. I should get it by the end of this week.

I was more careful this time when I used the Hasselblad camera. The cheat sheet works rather well but it is important to follow it strictly otherwise the photos will be either over or under exposed. I’ve taken one roll with the help of a light meter noiw so it will be exiting to see how those photos look like πŸ™‚ I wonder how much nostaligia is behind in how we see these photos πŸ™‚ I know I am when loking at them. I sort of like how it isn’t easy to get a photo and that I have to wait for quite some time till I see a result. Especially we who grew up with these old time cameras see these photos differently than the young people today that know of nothing else than these modern cameras.

Raining here again and the winds blow rather hard again, we’ll have a storm here later in the week and we might get snow I’m afraid. It won’t last for long though, warmer winds will reach us after just a day or two again πŸ™‚

We can’t mail our ballot here but we can vote with the help of someone else that brings the vote, his/hers id card and the id card for the person they are helping. We can also pre vote at special places if we don’t want to vote on the official day.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

    • By the way! I made some jam after the recipe You gave me! I like it but it is almost too aweet πŸ™‚ Works perfect to rice porridge and soon I’ll try it with pancakes!
