I looked down on the stairs this morning when I let the dogs out and it looked oddly spotted. I thought it might be birds that pooped all over it and didn’t think more of it. But it wasn’t bird poop, it was hail that had frozen to anything it had hit during the night, my car looked as if it had some kind of disease 🙂 It wasn’t especially cold outside though so I was surprised that it stayed for so long.
I had come two thirds of the way to work when I turned of the highway and in to the smaller road to work when the I heard an odd sound, sort of a pop. suddenly the signal for problems started to alarm in the car and the light showing the battery shone bright. I turned of the road, stopped the engine and started it again, just in case something would change but it didn’t. I started to drive again when I realised that it was very difficult to turn the steering wheel too.
I thought it was best to drive as far as I could and then call them at work for help and naturally I turned off anything that could use electricity. I had no problems, except for making turns, at all and came all the way to work and I called the nearest garage as soon as I came in. Thankfully They said I could drive down immediately but they didn’t think they would be able to fix the car already today, after all they can’t have spare parts for each and every kind of car. I guess I should see myself as lucky, this could have happened yesterday on the highway to the hospital.
So I drove to them and walked back to my job. Now I had to figure out how to get home after work today. I checked with the bus company and according to their calculations it would take one hour and thirty minutes to get to the castle by the lake and after that I would have to walk for minutes until I was home 🙂 Not an option if I wanted to work tomorrow again, I can imagine how my feet would feel after walking minutes in my work shoes 🙂
So I went to the factory owner and asked if I might borrow one of the company cars. They have one pickup truck, one van and one rather nice Volvo with automatic transmission. There was one more that needed to borrow a car so I thought I would get the van, not bad at all to be honest. But the other guy was nice and took the van so I could take the Volvo 🙂 I’m not used to drive without a stick so he had to explain some things to me 🙂 Cars don’t even have keys any longer 🙂 🙂 I would never had got that car to start if he hadn’t explained how I should do 🙂
Hopefully I’ll get my car tomorrow and I do miss it but it was nice to try the Volvo. It is time for something to eat and then I’ll read the latest Beetle Bailey 🙂
Have a great day!
So off I went to the hospital this morning, I realised I should have started a bit earlier and brought my digital camera with me because it was quite foggy outside the village and it would have been cool to photograph cranes by the lake in heavy fog. I did however bring a camera with me, the latest one and I took some photos in the city. I didn’t know how to place the counter on how many photographs I’ve taken and trusted a little red window in the bottom to show how many I had taken.
A big mistake because it showed how many photos I would have taken if I had used the old Kodak which takes 9 * 6 cm negatives, this camera takes 6 * 6 cm so I only took eight photos instead of the twelve I could have. I’ve now watched a video on YouTube how to put the counter on 1 again after loading the film 🙂 So I have now naturally loaded the camera with a new film and will bring it with me the next time I go to town, the 15th of April, that’s when I’ll pick up my new insoles.
I’ve heard that they made foot castings when doing this but things are upgraded in the hospitals too now days, instead they scan the feet. First I stood on something that looked and felt like a rubber cushion filled with some kind of liquid and then they scanned that. After that I just stood on the scanner and they scanned the feet again. I’m not sure how the cushion thing worked but I could see my feet on the computer screen. It takes a bit longer to get these insoles because of easter but I’m just happy I’ll get them.
I started to take photos already outside the hospital but continued down to the harbour (this city, Lidköping) is located just by our biggest lake (third biggest in Europe but still just a spit in the ocean compared to the big ones in North America 🙂 I also took a few photos by the town square. But You’ll have to wait for these photos for some time, I’ll send them to developing when I have three film rolls to send.
Lidköping is the richest (or the second or something like that) county in Sweden and it is sort of snobbish, it is the kind of town where one can see those tiny Smart cars or electric ones and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a run down house there and I must admit that I like the town. They know it’s a posh place but they don’t make a big deal out of it if You understand how I mean. Still they have all the same problems like all other cities but they have them in a fancier way 🙂
It is time for something to eat, haven’t had anything since pm and now it’s almost 8 pm.
Have a great day!
Yesterday the sun shone, it was very warm (over 12C, 54F) and the wind was weak. Angels flew in the sky praising the spring and the arrival of new life and then the first drop of rain fell and they all left 🙂 No angels praising in the sky today though, it’s rather chilly and the wind would probably blow them away and the rain really doesn’t help. It would have been rather nice if the wind just could have stayed away.
The birds were singing and flocks of cranes landed on the fields nearby telling the world they were here. The Black woodpecker were busy making a new hole to nest in or perhaps he was just impressing his date with fancy drum rolls. No other animals could be seen or heard though, I guess they did their best just to stay away from the wind too.
The laundry is already done and it’s now hanging outside to dry on the patio. It will take some time though since the wind blows so the rain will hit it but I’m in no hurry. The rest of today will be a do nothing day. I was planning on vacuuming the floors and scrub them too but the dogs will only mess them up again anyway as soon as they would get in again.
The teapot is filled and it’s time to make breakfast, I might take a short nap after that but I’ll check if there’s anything interesting to watch on tv, if not I’ll most likely fall asleep in front of the tv anyway 🙂
Have a great day!
It is a somewhat chilly and foggy morning but no wind so it is quite nice to walk around with the dogs, Bertil preferred to stay at home sleeping because he had been out all night. Teodor was also out all night and he’s sleeping on the kitchen bench on the other side of the table right now. They say the sun will show itself soon and stay for the rest of the day and it does look like the fog slowly is giving up right now.
I’ve started a fire in the stove, not so much because it was especially cold indoors but the Jackdaws are still looking for suitable chimneys to build nests in. I have a net on top of the chimney but that doesn’t stop them from poking down twigs and other things 🙂 My neighbor picked out four living and one dead Jackdaw from behind his fireplace last year so now he too have a net over the chimney opening 🙂
I spread ashes around the berry bushes and some of the fruit trees before I started the fire, ashes contains lots of nutrition and I know berry bushes love it, not so sure about fruit trees but I figured they would need some food too 🙂 Ashes also contains more lime than the lime one actually buy to spread in the garden so never pour out any close to plants that like a more acidic ground, they won’t thank You for it but most likely die or get very sick.
I’ll go outside and clean up after the dogs as soon as the sun make its appearance but first I’ll have some breakfast. The tea is already made so all I have to do now is to figure out what I want to eat. I always want white bread and orange marmalade and cheese when I’m out travelling but I almost never want that when being at home 🙂 I guess I connect that with warm weather and vacation 🙂 I never have fried food like bacon and eggs or pancakes in the morning, something the rest of my family seems to love.
I could have some porridge though but I feel lazy so it might just be a sandwich or two, I’ll see what I have in the fridge 🙂
Have a great day!
Nova isn’t happy with me at the moment, not only do I clean out her ear and drop medicine in it I also scold at her when she takes a roll in wild hog poop and not only that I shower her too 🙂 and I didn’t allow her to shake all the water off in the hall way either! I told her that if she ever rolled around in hog poop again I would leash her and not let her walk further away than one yard from me 🙂 She’s now upstairs and is very sullen and feel life is rather unfair 🙂
We had a maintenance day at work today so I didn’t have to do any painting with my arm waving around all the time. It does feel better but I guess all the rest that arm gets the better. So I washed the paint box and we changed the filters and I left half an hour early to do some grocery shopping instead. I know it might be stupid to leave half an hour early when I stop working at 12 anyway but I sure felt good 🙂 I’ll go to the orthopedist on Monday morning to make a casting of my feet so they can make those insoles for me.
I’ve bought another camera 🙂 Yes I can hear You thinking 🙂 Does he really need another one, doesn’t he already have around a gazillion of them? 🙂 Yes I have and no I really didn’t need one but I got it anyway 🙂 (I won’t look at the site any more after this 🙂 ). It is a Rolleicord and is made sometime between February 1938 to October 1947. It seems to work fine and I’ve loaded it with the same kind of film as my Hasselblad and the old Kodak use. I thought might bring it with me on Monday so I can take some city photos for a change.
The weather is really nice today, partly cloudy, a weak wind (at least here in and around the village) and fairly warm. Tomorrow will be nice too but after that the rain and winds will return. I don’t mind the rain even though we have way too much water in the ground as it is but I’m soo tired of the wind now. We can consider us lucky if it is calm one day out of fourteen. Why does it never blow when we need it on hot summer days? 🙂
It is time to give the dogs something to eat, the cats are outside most of the time now and they tend to like eating out so to speak 🙂
Have a great day!
I’ve been to the doctor this morning to check my feet and my right shoulder. It’s awful enough to drive in a storm as it is and it’s even worse when it suddenly starts to snow heavily and the sights is minimal at the same time as the wind does its best to push the car of the road 🙂 The snow fall only lasted for a few minutes though and was later replaced by rain. I thought they would have me waiting for quite some time because nothing much happened during the time I was waiting but just as the clock was 9:15 they let me in, almost on the second I had the appointment 🙂
We started with my feet and she didn’t like what she could feel at all and said that I really need insoles and gave me a referral to the orthopedist. I don’t even need to make an appointment, I’ll just go there when I can and they’ll do them for me 🙂 I wish it was that simple all the time when going to the doctors 🙂 After that she took a look at my shoulder.
That shoulder problems has nothing to do with any rheumatic disease, I’m just a bit worn out I guess 🙂 She then gave me a syringe with cortisone and local anesthetic but I can’t even pretend that the local anesthetic helped much 🙂 It hurts like h… when they give that anyway 🙂 It did remove the pain after for a few minutes though, it gave up just as I was calling work to say I wouldn’t come in today. He couldn’t have missed that the pain returned just that second 🙂 I’ll go tomorrow though but the doctor thought that since I work with heavy lifting and use my arms a lot it would be better to rest the shoulder today (it does feel much better already even if it still hurts a little).
I drove to the vet who is very close to my doctor and got a prescription for Orvar and Hector. Then I went back to where the doctor is because there’s also a pharmacy there. That didn’t take long so I drove to a store and bought some fire logs and after that I thought I would buy myself the annual hamburger with fries, they didn’t, unfortunately open until 11am and I really didn’t want to wait half an hour just to get a hamburger, so I drove home instead.
None of the dogs heard me arriving because tractor passed by just when I came close to the garage. I found both the old boys in the dog house to my big surprise! and they were so surprised when I came home early that they first didn’t understand that they could get out and go inside the cottage, they just stood there watching me 🙂 🙂 🙂 We managed to take a walk before the rain arrived and now it’s just pouring down outside. I’ll put more fire logs in the stove and then I think I’ll take a small nap.
Have a great day!
We had a cold morning after a rainy night but the road didn’t feel that slippery but I drove slower than usual anyway, I shouldn’t have been surprised but I did when the car slowly started to slide towards right on a long straight stretch 🙂 The tires got a grip as soon as they reached the grass by the side of the road and after that I drove even slower 🙂
The day however was just wonderful! No wind, sunshine and almost 15C (59F). I worked in the neighbor factory today so on my way back to my normal work place I took a short detour to the grocery store and bought myself an ice cream 🙂 It won’t be this nice tomorrow, the temperature will plummet and we’ll get some snow and rain too, typical early spring weather.
Hector’s legs have been unusually good this week, he has even been running some, something I’ve tried to stop him to do since he’ll pay for it later. But he was so happy that I just couldn’t stop him 🙂 Nova’s ear is better too but I’ll keep my eyes on it because I know how fast it can turn.
It’s time to make something to eat, I wish I had that pita filled with chicken spiced in an Indian way as it said on the package that I had for lunch today. Lots of flavors but still not burning in the mouth strong. I’ll make myself a cheese sandwich instead, that’s not too bad either 🙂
Have a great day!
We’ve had a really cold night and rather cold morning, the wind is still rather weak and the sun shines through the clouds to make it look a bit nicer than it is. Still it could be worse, the predictions says strong winds all day but so far it’s rather calm. Lets hope they have that prediction wrong too because we shouldn’t be able to see the sun at all right now 🙂
The birds don’t seem to care about any change in the weather though, they are still preparing for all the duties they’ll have the coming five to six months. Lots of singing and lots of gathering of nest-building materials. I’ll fill the feeders in a few minutes, I guess they’ll need any extra free energy to cope with the cold winds and nights.
Do You remember the dog Artur? The dog who got one meatball from a Swedish multi sport team and then decided to follow them. The members of te team fell in love with the seven-year old dog and one of them decided to bring him home to Sweden. That’s neither easy nor cheap to do when it is planned but they got lucky and the dog arrived to Sweden four months ago and placed in quarantine. Artur is now out of quarantine after four months and the first thing he and the one bringing him here did was to take a long run 🙂 From now on he’ll be a normal family dog but he will follow the team on competitions that isn’t too far away from home 🙂
The tomato seeds I sowed are now germinating and so are the seeds from the hardy Pelargonium (usually called geraniums in English) I had placed outdoors. They had already started outside and I thought it best to bring them inside since I didn’t know just how cold it would be and if that would kill those small seedlings. So it does feel very much like spring even though winter has made a short return to us.
Time for some tea and perhaps a sandwich or two.
Have a great day!
Yesterdays weather predictions was so wrong that I actually got surprised, we were supposed to get rain and snow during the day and just a few degrees above freezing. Instead we got over 50F and a dry day with some sunshine. The sun however didn’t show itself for more than a few seconds during the 85% solar eclipse, that I missed of course but a work friend managed to take a photo that he showed me afterwards.
Todays predictions however are rather accurate unfortunately. It has been below 0C (32F) all morning, it has been snowing and the wind has been awful. So we walked in to the forest to stay away from most of it. I did however go down to the lake to get some photos showing the cranes that hangs around and I realised that even by the fields this village is very much protected from the winds, it was just nasty by the lake.
I brought my old Kodak Browning No.2 with me and the tripod since it can’t go faster that 1/50th of a second. I’m not sure that helped especially much though, the wind was so strong that the tripod trembled and I had to lean towards it to keep it as still as possible. I could just find one place where the light might have leaked in last time I used this camera but taped every place that might let in light anyway. I’m pretty sure I stopped the leak and can only hope I managed to keep the camera so still that the photos will turn out good. I used the slide film rolls since it only is ISO 100 and that old camera would be impossible to use with any more light-sensitive film.
But I naturally also brought my digital one so I van show some photos today too. I didn’t take many though because it was so colds my fingers felt like they would fall off 🙂 Stopped me from thinking of my shoulder and feet though so it wasn’t totally bad 🙂 🙂 🙂 I’ll go there when there are more cranes (only around 4000 yet) and the weather is nicer. It is amazing that they don’t freeze to death in this weather no matter how much food they give them.
The sun is breaking through the clouds right now and the wind will calm down some towards the evening so we might get a nice last walk for the day. Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy, cold and the wind will return again. The temperature will go up and down like a Jojo all week but it looks like it will be above freezing during the days anyway. This is typical spring weather here I’m afraid but a month early 🙂
Have a great day!
We’ve had another wonderful day here, no wind almost sunshine ( the clouds were so thin that it shone right through them and 14C (57,2F). So who is surprised about the winter making a return here tomorrow when the weekend starts 🙂 but it will be short-lived, the warm weather will be here on Tuesday according to predictions. I’m not sure I believe them but I still hope they are right 🙂
I finally heard the Black Grouse this morning 🙂 I worried that we didn’t have any left any longer. I guess I’ve been out too late in the mornings on the weekends since I’ve waited for the sun to rise and daylight has been around for quite some time before that happens. There are now around 4000 cranes by the lake so it will soon be time for my annual visit to the lake to take some photos to show You here. They’ll also start the web cams tomorrow so I’ll give You a link to them if I remember. otherwise just tell me to do it if I forget 🙂
I might stop writing here for a while, not because I don’t want to but because my shoulder aches something really bad when sitting and writing. I have a doctor’s appointment next Thursday and it’s about my shoulder, my feet and my toes. They are all protesting against every move I take 🙂 I can only walk on my heels when I get up in the morning and it is a bit tricky doing that when walking down stairs 🙂 It gets better as soon as I have been moving around some but I think I need some special insoles in my shoes from now on.
I am lucky being ambidexter, both right and left-handed, because I now only paint with my left hand. Oh the joys of having rheumatism 🙂 🙂 🙂 So if I don’t post anything one day it is because it aches too much in my shoulder. I will however read blogs even if I might not comment. These things come and go in periods so it might get better already during the weekend since I won’t use my arm that much then but I will see the doctor anyway, after all that’s why I pay my taxes 🙂
Have a great day!
