I guess I should see me as lucky.

Sunny and warm here today.

Sunny and warm here today.

I looked down on the stairs this morning when I let the dogs out and it looked oddly spotted. I thought it might be birds that pooped all over it and didn’t think more of it. But it wasn’t bird poop, it was hail that had frozen to anything it had hit during the night, my car looked as if it had some kind of disease πŸ™‚ It wasn’t especially cold outside though so I was surprised that it stayed for so long.

I didn’t see tyat rainbow to the right when I took this photo πŸ™‚

I had come two thirds of the way to work when I turned of the highway and in to the smaller road to work when the I heard an odd sound, sort of a pop. suddenly the signal for problems started to alarm in the car and the light showing the battery shone bright. I turned of the road, stopped the engine and started it again, just in case something would change but it didn’t. I started to drive again when I realised that it was very difficult to turn the steering wheel too.

I thought it was best to drive as far as I could and then call them at work for help and naturally I turned off anything that could use electricity. I had no problems, except for making turns, at all and came all the way to work and I called the nearest garage as soon as I came in. Thankfully They said I could drive down immediately but they didn’t think they would be able to fix the car already today, after all they can’t have spare parts for each and every kind of car. I guess I should see myself as lucky, this could have happened yesterday on the highway to the hospital.

So I drove to them and walked back to my job. Now I had to figure out how to get home after work today. I checked with the bus company and according to their calculations it would take one hour and thirty minutes to get to the castle by the lake and after that I would have to walk for minutes until I was home πŸ™‚ Not an option if I wanted to work tomorrow again, I can imagine how my feet would feel after walking minutes in my work shoes πŸ™‚ Β

I didn't take more photos today so the coming ones are older.

So I went to the factory owner and asked if I might borrow one of the company cars. They have one pickup truck, one van and one rather nice Volvo withΒ automatic transmission. There was one more that needed to borrow a car so I thought I would get the van, not bad at all to be honest. But the other guy was nice and took the van so I could take the Volvo πŸ™‚ I’m not used to drive without a stick so he had to explain some things to me πŸ™‚ Cars don’t even have keys any longer πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I would never had got that car to start if he hadn’t explained how I should do πŸ™‚

Hopefully I’ll get my car tomorrow and I do miss it but it was nice to try the Volvo. It is time for something to eat and then I’ll read the latestΒ Beetle Bailey πŸ™‚

I’ll get them the 15th.

Hector.

Hector.

So off I went to the hospital this morning, I realised I should have started a bit earlier and brought my digital camera with me because it was quite foggy outside the village and it would have been cool to photograph cranes by the lake in heavy fog. I did however bring a camera with me, the latest one and I took some photos in the city. I didn’t know how to place the counter on how many photographs I’ve taken and trusted a little red window in the bottom to show how many I had taken.

DSC_0020

DSC_0021

DSC_0022

A big mistake because it showed how many photos I would have taken if I had used the old Kodak which takes 9 * 6 cm negatives, this camera takes 6 * 6 cm so I only took eight photos instead of the twelve I could have. I’ve now watched a video on YouTube how to put the counter on 1 again after loading the film πŸ™‚ So I have now naturally loaded the camera with a new film and will bring it with me the next time I go to town, the 15th of April, that’s when I’ll pick up my new insoles.

DSC_0030

DSC_0031

DSC_0032

I’ve heard that they made foot castings when doing this but things are upgraded in the hospitals too now days, instead they scan the feet. First I stood on something that looked and felt like a rubber cushion filled with some kind of liquid and then they scanned that. After that I just stood on the scanner and they scanned the feet again. I’m not sure how the cushion thing worked but I could see my feet on the computer screen. It takes a bit longer to get these insoles because of easter but I’m just happy I’ll get them.

I started to take photos already outside the hospital but continued down to the harbour (this city, LidkΓΆping) is located just by our biggest lake (third biggest in Europe but still just a spit in the ocean compared to the big ones in North America πŸ™‚ I also took a few photos by the town square. But You’ll have to wait for these photos for some time, I’ll send them to developing when I have three film rolls to send.

LidkΓΆping is the richest (or the second or something like that) county in Sweden and it is sort ofΒ snobbish, it is the kind of town where one can see those tiny Smart cars or electric ones and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a run down house there and I must admit that I like theΒ town. They know it’s a posh place but they don’t make a big deal out of it if You understand how I mean. Still they have all the same problems like all other cities but they have them in a fancier way πŸ™‚

The first butterfly!

DSC_0025

Yesterday the sun shone, it was very warm (over 12C, 54F) and the wind was weak. Angels flew in the sky praising the spring and the arrival of new life and then the first drop of rain fell and they all left πŸ™‚ No angels praising in the sky today though, it’s rather chilly and the wind would probably blow them away and the rain really doesn’t help. It would have been rather nice if the wind just could have stayed away.

The birds were singing and flocks of cranes landed on the fields nearby telling the world they were here. The Black woodpecker were busy making a new hole to nest in or perhaps he was just impressing his date with fancy drum rolls. No other animals could be seen or heard though, I guess they did their best just to stay away from the wind too.

We went down to the creek yesterday and Sune suddenly disappeared. I heard a big splash and understood that he had jumped down into the creek :-)

The laundry is already done and it’s now hanging outside to dry on the patio. It will take some time though since the wind blows so the rain will hit it but I’m in no hurry. The rest of today will be a do nothing day. I was planning on vacuuming the floors and scrub them too but the dogs will only mess them up again anyway as soon as they would get in again.Β

Beavers really don't need a lot of water to go around in. This ditch is rather far from the creek and it has been very busy here. There are more signs of beaver activity here than anywhere else.

It is a somewhat chilly and foggy morning but no wind so it is quite nice to walk around with the dogs, Bertil preferred to stay at home sleeping because he had been out all night. Teodor was also out all night and he’s sleeping on the kitchen bench on the other side of the table right now. They say the sun will show itself soon and stay for the rest of the day and it does look like the fog slowly is giving up right now.

I’ve started a fire in the stove, not so much because it was especially cold indoors but the Jackdaws are still looking for suitable chimneys to build nests in. I have a net on top of the chimney but that doesn’t stop them from poking down twigs and other things πŸ™‚ My neighbor picked out four living and one dead Jackdaw from behind his fireplace last year so now he too have a net over the chimney opening πŸ™‚

I spread ashes around the berry bushes and some of the fruit trees before I started the fire, ashes contains lots of nutrition and I know berry bushes love it, not so sure about fruit trees but I figured they would need some food too πŸ™‚ Ashes also contains more lime than the lime one actually buy to spread in the garden so never pour out any close to plants that like a more acidic ground, they won’t thank You for it but most likely die or get very sick.

I’ll go outside and clean up after the dogs as soon as the sun make its appearance but first I’ll have some breakfast. The tea is already made so all I have to do now is to figure out what I want to eat. I always want white bread and orange marmalade and cheese when I’m out travelling but I almost never want that when being at home πŸ™‚ I guess I connect that with warm weather and vacation πŸ™‚ I never have fried food like bacon and eggs or pancakes in the morning, something the rest of my family seems to love.

Nova isn’t happy with me at the moment, not only do I clean out her ear and drop medicine in it I also scold at her when she takes a roll in wild hog poop and not only that I shower her too πŸ™‚ and I didn’t allow her to shake all the water off in the hall way either! I told her that if she ever rolled around in hog poop again I would leash her and not let her walk further away than one yard from me πŸ™‚ She’s now upstairs and is very sullen and feel life is rather unfair πŸ™‚

We had a maintenance day at work today so I didn’t have to do any painting with my arm waving around all the time. It does feel better but I guess all the rest that arm gets the better. So I washed the paint box and we changed the filters and I left half an hour early to do some grocery shopping instead. I know it might be stupid to leave half an hour early when I stop working at 12 anyway but I sure felt good πŸ™‚ I’ll go to the orthopedist on Monday morning to make a casting of my feet so they can make those insoles for me.

It is a Rolleicord and is made sometime between February 1938 to October 1947. It seems to work fine and I’ve loaded it with the same kind of film as my Hasselblad and the old Kodak use. The weather is really nice today, partly cloudy, a weak wind (at least here in and around the village) and fairly warm. Tomorrow will be nice too but after that the rain and winds will return. I don’t mind the rain even though we have way too much water in the ground as it is but I’m soo tired of the wind now. We can consider us lucky if it is calm one day out of fourteen. Why does it never blow when we need it on hot summer days? πŸ™‚

These deer stood perhaps 30 meters (much the same in yards) away from us yesterday and I guess got just as surprised as we got.

I’ve been to the doctor this morning to check my feet and my right shoulder. It’s awful enough to drive in a storm as it is and it’s even worse when it suddenly starts to snow heavily and the sights is minimal at the same time as the wind does its best to push the car of the road πŸ™‚ The snow fall only lasted for a few minutes though and was later replaced by rain. I thought they would have me waiting for quite some time because nothing much happened during the time I was waiting but just as the clock was 9:15 they let me in, almost on the second I had the appointment πŸ™‚

We started with my feet and she didn’t like what she could feel at all and said that I really need insoles and gave me a referral to the orthopedist. I don’t even need to make an appointment, I’ll just go there when I can and they’ll do them for me πŸ™‚ I wish it was that simple all the time when going to the doctors πŸ™‚ After that she took a look at my shoulder.

That shoulder problems has nothing to do with any rheumatic disease, I’m just a bit worn out I guess πŸ™‚ She then gave me aΒ syringe with cortisone and local anesthetic but I can’t even pretend that the local anesthetic helped much πŸ™‚ It hurts like h… when they give that anyway πŸ™‚ It did remove the pain after for a few minutes though, it gave up just as I was calling work to say I wouldn’t come in today. He couldn’t have missed that the pain returned just that second πŸ™‚ I’ll go tomorrow though but the doctor thought that since I work with heavy lifting and use my arms a lot it would be better to rest the shoulder today (it does feel much better already even if it still hurts a little).

I drove to the vet who is very close to my doctor and got aΒ prescription for Orvar and Hector. Then I went back to where the doctor is because there’s also a pharmacy there. Β That didn’t take long so I drove to a store and bought some fire logs and after that I thought I would buy myself the annual hamburger with fries, they didn’t, unfortunately open until 11am and I really didn’t want to wait half an hour just to get a hamburger, so I drove home instead.

We’ve had a really cold night and rather cold morning, the wind is still rather weak and the sun shines through the clouds to make it look a bit nicer than it is. Do You remember the dog Artur? The dog who got one meatball from a Swedish multi sport team and then decided to follow them. The members of te team fell in love with the seven-year old dog and one of them decided to bring him home to Sweden. That’s neither easy nor cheap to do when it is planned but they got lucky and the dog arrived to Sweden four months ago and placed in quarantine. DSC_0037Yesterdays weather predictions was so wrong that I actually got surprised, we were supposed to get rain and snow during the day and just a few degrees above freezing. Instead we got over 50F and a dry day with some sunshine. Todays predictions however are rather accurate unfortunately. It has been below 0C (32F) all morning, it has been snowing and the wind has been awful. So we walked in to the forest to stay away from most of it. I did however go down to the lake to get some photos showing the cranes that hangs around and I realised that even by the fields this village is very much protected from the winds, it was just nasty by the lake.

I brought my old Kodak Browning No.2 with me and the tripod since it can’t go faster that 1/50th of a second. I’m not sure that helped especially much though, the wind was so strong that the tripod trembled and I had to lean towards it to keep it as still as possible. I could just find one place where the light might have leaked in last time I used this camera but taped every place that might let in light anyway. I’m pretty sure I stopped the leak and can only hope I managed to keep the camera so still that the photos will turn out good. Nights are a bit cold now though, I have been scraping my car windows before I’ve left for work both yesterday and today. It is so thin ice that I really don’t mind and I guess it’s good in that way that it keeps the plants calm, they would only freeze to death if they started to grow already now.

I had several flocks of cranes flying high above mu car on my way home and I think I heard a Cuckoo bird in the forest on our walk after work. It is way too early for them to be here already but it sure sounded like one. I haven’t heard any Black Grouse at all though and that’s very odd! I really hope the hunters haven’t hunted those, we don’t have that many and as it sounds no at all any longer.

I’m late as always on Mondays and it’s easier to be even later than normal when it is so light outside when I come home after work. I also hadn’t checked the photos I took yesterday afternoon and I got the cd with all the photos from the old cameras today. This week will be really warm but we’ll get a setback next week they say. There will be snow falling and rather cold during nights but also during the days. We’ll be lucky if the temperature rise above 0C (32F) and I fear we’ll not be lucky. Just as well get that setback early so the damages on the plants is minimal. I saw that a few seeds of those I put out when we still hade those days of winter here have germinated. It is especially the hardiest pelargonium (they are usually called geraniums in English) so I’ll bring in that pot and place it in my cool cellar for a week. I must check the other pots as well!

It is a sunny, chilly and windy morning but we walked down to the bog so it didn’t bother me so much. Hector has a bad leg day so we won’t take any longer walks until he’s better again. I think the running and jumping the other day may have been very fun for him but now it’s payback time. He’s in a good mood though and would rather die than not follow us on our walks.

I cleaned up the garden from lots of junk that has flown around in all the storms we’ve had this winter. While walking around and realising I need to clean up after the dogs again I realised spring had progressed much further than I thought, spring flowers are in bloom everywhere now.Β

Crocus, hepatica, scilla and of course the snow drops are in bloom and more is on its way. The peach tree will soon show its first leafs if it doesn’t get colder again. It is way too early because the setbacks here can be cruel. Days can be way over 10C (50F) and suddenly a night or two with -10C (14F) comes and destroys it all. Sunny and cold morning.

DSC_0032

The night has been rather cold and the morning walk felt somewhat chilly even though the sun shone with full power and there were only a few clouds around, the weak wind didn’t make much difference though. I could hear cranes shouting out on the bog and trumpet swans flew just a few meters above our heads. We walked to the little lake because I thought there might be a few birds there now but none could be seen, the lake had frozen during the night and the big lake would probably have some open water spots so they would go there instead.

I bought some vegetable seeds when I was at the super market yesterday, they were for some reason price reduced with 20% so I thought why not πŸ™‚ I bought a big pack withΒ broad beans and normal sized packages with spring onion, broccoli, squash and different colored carrots. The ground here isn’t good enough for carrots though, too many pebbles in it so they split and get fun shapes but I was thinking of growing those in raised beds together with the spring onions. If lucky that will confuse both the carrot and onion flies.

I’m thinking of finding a potato that is resistant towards potato blight which is a big problem here, I guess the air is too humid so it thrives on my potatoes every time I grow them. It’s a bit strange because I still haven’t heard the Black Grouse out on the bog, the roosters are normally doing their best to impress the hen by now. I thought Nova had hurt her neck yesterday after playing hard with Sune, she came down the stairs with her head hanging low and complained when I lifted up her head. I massaged her neck and that didn’t seem to bother her at all and then I found a small injury that I cleaned but she still didn’t want to lift her head. Today she started to flap her ears again, I think it might be an ear infection, again! that gave her that pain. I cleaned the ear and dropped the medicine into it and she has no trouble at all to try to shake it out πŸ™‚ and she has kept on playing hard with Sune so now I doubt that it is the neck at all. I’ll keep an eye on her though and if this continues we’ll go to the vet again.

We went out to the bog again today when I came home after work. Sune took a bath in the small creek and the Black birds were singing from the top of the spruces. I stood there for quite some time just listening and smelling the scents and thought that I wouldn’t miss humanity at all if I came home to find I was the only one still around πŸ™‚ I really had no wish to go back home but it was getting cold and even if I love it out there I still don’t want to freeze to death πŸ™‚

We were in no hurry on our way back and the dogs could take the time they wanted to follow every track they could find. The dogs were hungry though so they started to hurry homewards and when we passed my neighbor I heard the sounds from a contrabass, she is a musician and practice a lot. For being a Tuesday this day passed relatively fast anyway, I really don’t like Tuesdays. On Mondays there’s still a bit of weekend in the body. Wednesdays are in the middle of the week, Thursdays are almost Fridays and Fridays are weekend but Tuesdays have nothing! But I think it helped some with the rain falling when I drove to work and even if the sun shone all day after that the wind was so strong that it wasn’t especially nice outside anyway. It did also help some that nothing went wrong, at least not something I was responsible for πŸ™‚ I had also ordered food at work, I have been a bit lazy lately and not cooked anything here at home and for once they actually had used some spices πŸ™‚ a good thing since it was chicken curry I ordered πŸ™‚

I got a call from the business that developes the films I’ve taken and it seems I had made a mistake when writing down what kind of films I sent them. I had written two color negatives and one black and white. It turns out that I had sent them one color, one black and white and one slide film?! I haven’t bought any slide film I said but she insisted πŸ™‚ and yes I had without knowing it πŸ™‚ When I first bought my Hasselblad camera I ordered film from a business and got a mail that they would ship it as soon as they had gotten it. It took five months and they also sold me the wrong kind of film πŸ™‚Β

I never checked that when they finally arrived πŸ™‚ The developing business said that it could be developed as a color negative film but that it sometimes gave odd results so I said that they should develop it as what it was and then she apologised that it would take one day longer to get it developed. I will survive I answered because sometimes they are so fast that I get the photos via the net just one day after I mailed the film rolls so one more day wouldn’t kill me πŸ™‚

It has been a truly wonderful morning and it could only have been better if the wind had calmed down some. I would have liked to bring the Edixa camera with me on our next walk but there’s a problem, the film broke at the end in the cassette it comes in and now I can’t open the camera to remove the film and place it in a container where the light won’t reach it. Back in the days the film cassette came in a black plastic container but today it comes in a see through container?! So I think I must buy something we call electric tape, a sort of elastic black tape that I can cover the see through container with so I can remove the film and put a new one in it instead. Today however is a bit different, really strong winds, cloudy and “only” 5,4C (41,7F) but the lark is still singing up there even though it had some trouble to hover in the same place as it normally does, the winds are a bit too strong πŸ™‚ I was planning on walking to the little lake by the ridges this morning, I thought there would be some birds hanging around but the winds made it just too nasty to walk by the open fields.Β

This week I saw the full moon and the sun at the same time πŸ™‚ The sun was setting on one side of me and the moon rising on the other side. I thought this must be very rare but then I started to think about how it is here in summer, the sun is up shining for eighteen hours and the moon is often showing during the days here, so I must see this many times to be honest, I’ve just never really thought of it before. It was cool though πŸ™‚

I took some photos of the night sky the other day, this is Saturn that You can see. I thought wrong and had the camera on a low ISO keeping the shutter open for a longer time. That is why Saturn look like a strong shining star. I think that I should have done it the opposite way, with a very high ISO and the shutter open for a short time instead. I was going to try that the next night but cklouds came and has come every night since then :-)

I edited the part with Saturn, rather heavily and this is what came up. I'm not sure if this is an optical illusion or if this actually shows the rings around the planet?! I'm afraid it is the first :-) Still it looks rather cool :-)

I think that the “fuzzy” stars in the middle can be distant galaxies.

This is what happens when the tripod moves πŸ™‚ I guess the reddish is a plane flying by and I think that line upΒ to the right might be a “falling star”.

The time when I can take photos after work when we’re out walking has started now, the photos are a bit dark but just that I can make me feel happy πŸ™‚ so You’ll see a few of those photos today that was taken during my internet absence.Β

I’ve realised that I no longer can drink tea or coffee in the afternoon, that happened over a night! and I think that is the reason for me not being able to sleep very well. As soon as I stopped drinking after work I started to sleep much better and that annoys me so much, I love my pot of tea before going to bed in the evening. Yes I know that there is caffeine free options but none of them taste like the tea Earl Grey πŸ™‚ I’ll survive without it but I’ll miss it a lot πŸ™‚

Ravens flying home after a successful day at the eagle feeding station :-)

Ravens flying home after a successful day at the eagle feeding station πŸ™‚ We actually have too many now, they are attacking calves and lambs by chopping out their eyes and then a full attack when the animal can’t see to defend itself. A terrible way to go but nature isn’t a nice place unless one is the top predator.

I had planned to walk acrooss the fields to the creek yesterday but one look at the tractor mnade me change my plan :-) It might still be a bit too wet out there :-)

So here I sit with my last cup of tea for the day, better get used to it and perhaps stop having any at all. The fire is burning in the stove and all the animals are sleeping. Sune beside the radiator here in the kitchen, Orvar and Hector in the cool livingroom. Teodor has chosen the hall way between the kitchen and livingroom and Nova is upstairs. Bertil? have no idea, he might be outside catching voles.

I fear the worst :-)

An American weather institute, can’t find the name on it right now, has predicted the warmest spring in a long time here in Sweden, a bit wet but warm. Normally this would make me happy, not the wet part perhaps but the warm. Normally I say because the same weather institute also told us that we would get the coldest winter in ages this time and so far they’ve been very wrong πŸ™‚ This is probably the warmest since they started to record the weather πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

You got the cold winter instead, so now I fear we’ll get the coldest spring in ages with lots of snow (they also predicted that the winter before this one would be nasty too and got it really wrong that time too πŸ™‚ ) . So far every prediction they have made has been just the opposite to what really happened πŸ™‚ So a warm springΒ prediction from them couldΒ risk to be a deadly cold spring instead πŸ™‚

I’ve been sleeping bad lately, my back hurts and my shoulder aches (I’m pretty sure that’s the reason for sleeping bad) and I feel rather grumpy to be honest, so I’ll take a break from the internet until Saturday. It’s not the right mood to be writing a blog unless You don’t like long posts where I mostly will complain about what ever is in my mind at the moment πŸ™‚

It won’t stay thankfully.

DSC_0031

It’s just as warm today as it was yesterday but not nearly as nice to take walks, the winds are blowing hard and the forest is the only place to be if one wants to avoid the winds. However it isn’t a good thing to walk amongst trees if one of them suddenly give up and breaks or falls. The temperature will drop though and I just saw the first snow flake fall outside my kitchen door window.

It won’t stay on the ground though, it will still be too warm and later on the rain will start to fall. I doubt I’ll take another walk if this weather continues, if it does I think the dogs will have to do with the garden. This will be a day of total laziness and most likely dvd watching. It is the last day of the cross-country world championships and today it’s the 50km men. I can always take a nap in front of the tv as long as that goes one πŸ™‚ I used to think it was fun to watch cross-country skiing but now days they often start all at the same time and that usually means no one will try to ski away from the others making the race rather uneventful. Nothing really happens until the last km.

My throat is sour and my neck stiff, I really hope It doesn’t mean I’m about to get the flu, it hits everywhere now I’ve read. None of the flu shots that has been available seems to work either, no I didn’t take one so at least I saved that money πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

I suddenly remembered that I can’t have a day of total laziness, I have the laundry to do and I really need to do it because I have no clean clothes left to wear πŸ™‚ But besides that I will be lazy.Β
