I’m trying to wake up, again.
I’m sitting here in the kitchen trying to wake up, again. We were up and out on our walk early as usual and I thought it would be a good idea to take a nap when we had come home again. Just a short one of course. I woke up an hour and a half later and I’m having big problems waking up again 🙂 I have been down to my cool cellar and picked up some plants that I think should start their outdoor lives again and I have a cup with really strong coffee by my side but I can’t say I’m winning the fight against the tiredness, not yet anyway 🙂
It was even foggy in the forest and that’s not common.
The sun has big problems shining through the thin clouds but it is already over 13C (55,4F) and it will get warmer yet today 🙂 The morning however was chilly, foggy and absolutely wind free, wonderful with other words 🙂 This could have been one of those mornings when it would be easy to believe that no more humans existed in the world but I kept hearing this annoying traffic sound the entire time. What on earth is people doing out driving at am on a Saturday morning??
There were no other sounds beside the traffic though, no birds chirping, no cranes honking and not even any Black Grouse. I guess the fog made them all take a late morning just waiting for a weather where they actually could see each other 🙂 because the fog was so thick most of the time that I couldn’t see more than ten meters (much the same in yards) ahead of me.
But then we went out into the thick fog.
I can see butterflies and big bumblebees flying around in my garden right now, every now and again my neighbors honeybees makes a visit in my kitchen, I’m not sure what it is they look for in here but they all seem to be very interested to fly in here. Birds are gathering nesting materials and doesn’t care that they walk just beside the dogs to get what they want 🙂 but as soon as Teodor shows his face they become much more alert of the danger. Not so much when Bertil comes though, he’s more interested in rodents.
I’m not even 50 meters (much the same in yards) away from the Portal here.
I think it’s best to become a bit active again or the sleepiness will take over totally again or perhaps I just should make a cup with even stronger coffee 🙂

Vi har visserligen inte haft någon dimma, men en fantastiskt vacker dag är det! så vi passar på att göra rent altanen, Rolle svabbar och kör med högtryckstvätten. Själv har jag tvättat fönster, bord och vägglyktor och nu är jag inne för att fixa till alla dekorationerna – alltså ljusstakar, små lyktor m.m. “onödigt tjafs”. Gubbens åsikt, men sånt som jag tycker gör att det blir trivsamt där ute. När golvet har torkat så ska jag ta ut dynorna och sen ska vi senare sätta oss där med ett glas vin och inviga utesäsongen. Underbart…..! 🙂 🙂 🙂

18 grader varmt här nu, ändå skiner solen genom molnen så vem vet hur varmt det varit annars. Man kan ju inte annat än njuta 🙂 Har just kapat av ett gammalt vattenskott på äppleträdet, över 15 år gammalt 🙂 Det var så stort nu att det hotade hela trädets existens genom att få det att tippa över. Nu ser det riktigt luftigt ut igen 🙂 Det var så stort att jag knappt orkade dra iväg det efteråt trots att jag kapat av alla smågrenar och kvistar på det 🙂
Det äör inte helt fel att ha ett sådant uterum 🙂 Själv måste jag få tummarna ur i år så att jag äntligen bygger det där växthuset jag pratat om i åratal, jag har ju nästan allt material 🙂

Hi Christer,
I might be in your sleepy shoes myself. I had scheduled a grocery delivery for the morning and the delivery window was 6AM to 8AM. The last time I did one that early they came 15 minutes before the earliest time. I was up, dressed and walking the dogs by 5:45 keeping a sharp eye out for deer or coyotes. None appeared. Just loud crows. The delivery showed up at 7. I’m wide awake but I’ll be looking for a nap in few hours.
Careful of the coffee. Too strong and it’ll keep you awake but it’ll take the enamel off your teeth. 🙂
Wicked foggy in your photos today. Things seem to be out there in the foggy distance but maybe not? It’s a mystery. 🙂
Today is sunny and heading for the upper 50’s F. That daffodil that’s been trying to bloom might get a boost today. It’s showing a tiny bit of yellow tip. I’m still checking for my chionadoxa. They appear magically overnight. Suddenly, one morning, there are blue patches in the lawn.

The coffee did it 🙂 but I didn’t make it stronger than that it colored my teeth brownish 🙂 🙂 🙂
I don’t think our grocery deliverey system works like Yours because I don’t think we can order as we please, instead we can order food for a certain ammount and they’ll pick together something for us. Not what I want. I know that wqe could order from the small grocery store in Gudhem before and that we then could order what ever we wanted but I’m not sure they do that any longer. I really must check how it works here now days. But then again, I pass the grocery store in the village where I work on my way home so I might just as well buy what I need then 🙂
I love that with the fog, one never really knows what’s out there 🙂
64,4F here right now and I guess it would have been even warmer if we hadn’t had those thin clouds between us and the sun but I really can’t complai, can I 🙂 🙂 My daffodils don’t show any yellow yet though.

The wind came roaring out of the northwest and spoiled the promised warmth of the day. It did make it to 54ºF but that wind has a nasty bite. 🙂
I didn’t use this grocery service until I was temporarily unable to walk. Ordering is done online and they get the items from the store nearest to me. Very convenient when you can’t get around or need to use that time for something else.
Or just loath grocery shopping as much as I do. 🙂

It’s always the wind, isn’t it! But 54 isn’t that bad if one just can get out of reach for it.
I used that service when they had it in the grocery store in Gudhem and I came home after both my hip surgeries, it was just perfect but I needed to have cash at home because I paid when they delivered the groceries. I never have money on me so it was a bit difficult to estimate how much I needed to have here at home long before I even went in to surgery 🙂

Hi Christer! Those pictures today are fantastic! I wish I could live in a world that had fog everyday…how fun would that be? Unless you had to drive in it, then that’s not fun. But walking in the forest with fog. Life could not get much better….the 3rd picture from the top is perfect. We are supposed to get to 21 degrees today!!!!! Can you believe it? I can’t but we will wait and see. Its just turned 10:30 in the morning and my thermometer says 15, but the TV says 9. Mind you that TV temp is out at our airport, quite far from here and no houses around it to hold in the heat. We are going to BBQ and sit on our patio for dinner. First time this year! 🙂 Isn’t it the worst when you just can’t wake up? I don’t like that….I hope the coffee did the trick. I am heading out to our friend’s ranch to visit and visit the horses, so I am glad for nice weather. We are to rain tomorrow which is good, will help with the dust from the sand and gravel they lay down in the winter. Good for the gardens too! I hope your evening is pleasant.

There is a place at the Canadian east coast, the Grand Banks off the island of Newfoundland that is almost always foggy and those living there aren’t too happy about that 🙂 🙂 🙂 I watched a tv program about that place and even if I love fog I do feel a bit sorry for them 🙂 So perhaps we shouöd be happy we don’t have it more often than we do, even though I wouldn’t mind having more fog to be honest 🙂
We reached 22,4 today 🙂 and we were supposewd to get something similar tomorrow but they’ve changed the predictions to much colder and we might even get some rain too. So I can’t mow the lawn as I had planned, so sad 🙂 🙂 🙂 The odd thing is that no one started the grill?! That normally happens as soon as it looks like the sun will show itself 🙂
Yes it is so annoying, I can open my eyes butr I’m not really awake but still I’m not asleep either but strong coffee helped 🙂

i love your fog! i wish we would get fog more often. it’s funny we don’t since we have the valleys and rivers. i wouldn’t mind spring and summer if we had days like today. it’s sunny, breezy, blue skies and 45 degrees. much warmer than this and i am not happy!

It was so nice that the fog for once could be seen in the forest too, that isn’t especially common here.
You would love our summers here then 🙂 or at least how they used to be, very cool and rainy. Too bad we have all these blood sucking insects 🙂

I love your blog, the way you write about the weather, your photos, and your observations about nature. I reside in the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern US, and it is foggy much of the time here, also, especially in the mornings. I rarely see many birds when it is foggy. Perhaps they stay close to their nighttime roosting places until the fog lifts and they can see farther distances, see potential predators, that is.
Please keep up the good work!

We used to have more fog here when I moved to this place, wonderful on days when I didn’t have to drive around in it 🙂 It has been so thick that I’ve missed to turn on the way to work so I’ve had problems understanding where I was on the roads 🙂 🙂 🙂 I guess You’re right and the risk of not seeing a predator in the fog is too big if moving around. But then again, the predator would probably have big problems finding anything in the fog too 🙂

Thanks, Christer, now I know your real name! Good point about predators also having problems seeing their potential prey in the fog. I have had the same experience as you have … going outside on a foggy morning when the birds are normally out, yet not being able to see any birds.

I guess the fog is a bit troublesome for both of them 🙂 It would be just pure luck / unluck if they saw each other 🙂
By the way, The Scandinavian mountins are actually the northern parts of the Appalachians 🙂 Long time ago thet they were connected though 🙂

Hello again, Christer! Interesting about the Scandinavian Mountains actually being the northern Appalachians! Some of your photos seem to show similar scenery to where I live. But it seems to be a little moister (and probably cooler) where you are. However, I live in what you might call the “foothills” of the Appalachians, with my elevation being just under 800 feet (244 meters). I live on the edge of a horse farm, and there are cows about a mile down the road. Our last possible frost date is in mid-May, while you mentioned that yours is during the first week of June. Our nighttime lows right now are just above freezing, although there are frost warnings in the higher elevations not far from here. Daytime temps have been mild, in the 60’s and low 70’s F (about 18 to 23 C). But we are sure to have more cold spells this month.

I first learned about that in a book and then I saw it in a science program.
The Gulf Stream make our climate milder and rather rainy, withgout it it would look much more like Alaska here when it comes to climate. I think the most southern part of Sweden is more or less at the same latitude as the most southern part of Alaska.
Normally it’s much colder this time of year here but we are just above freezing point here during nights right now and around C (F) as warmest during the day, yesterday was unusually warm but I don’t complain 🙂 I hope that we for once don’t get any more cold spells but I know we will 🙂

I love the fog, and I find the morning fog to be the thickest. The ocean brings us fog, and I cross a local bridge and can’t even see the water.
On some days I have no energy. I even take a morning nap. Last night or other at 2:30 this morning, I went to bed and woke up too early. I tried to take a nap and didn’t. I did finally get energy in the afternoon, but I’m tired!
From your pictures, I would never guess there was a noisy road near you. I live 2 miles from the highway but sometimes I can hear the cars from there.

I do too and it was a long time since it was this thick 🙂
It is so annoying that no matter how much one tries the energy just stays locked in there somewhere in the brain 🙂 but coffee helped me thankfully 🙂
The road is around 2 miles away from here too and the sound echoes on the Mountain and since we have no leafs to stop it the sounds travels around easily here. It won’t be the same when the crane season is over and the leafs comes again 🙂

I have mixed feelings about fog. There is something disturbing about it. I wish I knew what. I don’t mind it if I don’t have to go out in it. Probably has to do with early childhood memories and my vivid imagination when it comes to Fairy Tales. Still reading Wind in the Willows..and you seem to be in a country where something like that was written. They even mention the growths on the tree’s. They are just out of hiding through a dreadful night in the old hollowed out tree after experiencing those foot steps and the triangle shaped little creatures with red eyes that peer out at them form the dark forest…and they have found Badger’s home under the snow. The parts I love are the discriptions of where the animals live. Brick floors..kitchens FULL of all sort of wonderful food, especially the hams hanging in the kitchen. A warm fire and well stocked kitchen…
Sometimes I wonder how I came to live in Southern California… I miss the forests and rivers of Oregon. Oops! Sorry. Writing a book here. 🙂

Lots of horror movies and fairy tales use fog to scare us 🙂 I love to walk around in it though 🙂
There are lots of places here that always remind me of The Wind in the Willows 🙂 It’s perhaps not so strange since it was written in England, southern Sweden and the British isles do look very much alike to be honest. But unlike England the water rat ( Ratty, or water vole as it actually is) we have them everywhere here while it is seen as endangered in Britain. Not a nice animal to have close though, it gets very big, is rather aggressive and eats everything!!! Ratty is so much nicer in the book than in real life 🙂 🙂 🙂
I love the descriptions of how it looks in their homes! It is odd that they do have ham hanging in their homes, pigs are obviously just food in that world too 🙂 🙂 🙂
And what an interesting book it would be!
