I better wear breathing protection.

I’m wearing one black and one grey sock today and the grey sock has a big hole in it  just beneath my big toe. I really need to find Sune’s stash of socks now, I barely have any left 🙂 I think there was some kind of challenge on facebook a while ago that wanted us to wear different colored socks to celebrate differences between us. The one starting it have a sibling with down’s syndrome. If anyone should see my socks I can always say I’ve joined the cause 🙂

It could have been a rather wonderful morning but the wind destroys it completely once again. It is bitterly cold and a bit too strong. It has calmed down some or perhaps changed direction because I can have the kitchen door open right now. It helps to dry up the grass before I mow it though so perhaps I shouldn’t complain too much. The sun is shining and there are a few clouds in the sky but no rain is predicted for today so I wouldn’t be surprised if it started raining within an hour or so 🙂

I met my neighbor, to my big surprise when we were going the last hundred meters of our walk this morning. He’s normally not a morning person but today he was going to Gothenburg, my old home town, to run the half marathon they have there every year. I think it is the biggest half marathon in the world when it comes to how many who participates in it. I told him that by the way he sounds he really shouldn’t run at all today, he has a cold. It is never good to do anything exhausting if one has a cold, especially not if one has to run 21 km (13,05 miles). I do hope, if he starts running, he knows when to stop in time if he gets worse.

I’m thinking on cleaning up the garage, or shed as I call it now days since I can’t have my car there because mice eat all the cables in the engine room 🙂 I had a few bags of newspapers I wanted to go to the recycling center with but then Nova dug her way in. I now have millions of tiny pieces of newspapers spread all over the shed floor 🙂 I also have a lot of torn old sweaters, blankets and other cloth things that one or all of the dogs have torn to pieces that needs to be taken care of. I will wear a breathing protection since voles love to dig around in things like that and voles spread a for humans serious disease, vole fever (Nephropathia epidemica), that actually can kill us.

It is a coffee morning today, I have a head ache that now slowly is dying out with the help of strong coffee. It’s instant coffee after I had poured in the powder or what ever one calls the instant coffee into my big tea-cup I was going to pour some milk in it before the hot water. So I was on my way to the fridge with the cup when I saw something outside that I wanted to photograph. What ever it was had naturally disappeared when I arrived by the kitchen door so I left the camera on the kitchen table. It took a while before I started to wonder why I walked around in my home holding my tea-cup with just powder in it 🙂

  1. Underbara bilder.

    Hi Christer,
I love the dog and Bertil level photographs. 🙂 And the horses. That’s a nice looking wagon. I still miss driving horses and riding them, too.

You should learn to knit socks so you can always have some around to replace the ones that Sune hides on you. Actually, it’s cheaper to buy the socks but knitting socks is magical. I don’t know why knitting socks is magical and knitting sweaters isn’t but everyone I know who knits socks and sweaters agrees that it is. Including me. 🙂

My heat went on at 5 AM this morning. The wind had a bite to it when I walked the dogs earlier. I had to wear a jacket. It’s only 46ºF right now but tomorrow is supposedly the start of a week long heat wave. Bleh. I’ll have to see about getting the AC unit in the window again.

    Enjoy the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

I think those two are my favorites too.
Too bad I always miss when they are out driving around with the horses and this or the other carriage!

We had to knit in school and that gave me a deep resistance towards any kind of knitting I’m afraid 🙂 Could it have to do with the fact that socks take less time 🙂 🙂

The wind calmed down considerable during the day (but the wind that was was still biting cold) so it was really nice being outside in the garden, even mowing was kind of nice 🙂 still no heat wave in sight here, rather the contrary I’m afraid but I’m gkad You mentioned Your AC, it is time for me to buy a fan so I have one if it actually would be warm here later on 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

Socks really don’t take less time. Believe it or not but three socks have just as many stitches as one average size sweater. They’re smaller so it looks like less work. 🙂 I think the magical part of socks is turning the heels. You start by knitting a tube. You do some not very difficult short rows and some fiddly picking up of stitches and some reducing of stitches and suddenly you’ve got this bendy heel pocket thing. Then you knit more tube, do some reducing of stitches again to make a toe and finally you have to do the exacting magical formula called a Kitchener Stitch in order to close up the toes. Ta-Daaaa! A sock. It’s magic. 🙂
I understand about school turning you against knitting. It did the same for me and sewing. It was very traumatic. 🙂

      • So easy 🙂 🙂 But it sure takes a lot of work to do that magic 🙂

I know that knitting is rather popular amongst those sitting in the parliament, both men and women. Debates can be rather tedious so perhaps knitting is a good way to pass time and still enjoy doing something.

I guess it was a good thing that we all learned the basics but they could have made it funnier.

  3. Christer,
So Sweden has won again, a record sixth time. Kudos!

Everything looks so vibrant in your pictures, beautiful. The red really pops, and I love the cart in front. My lilies of the valley have already flowered. They have taken over my backyard, but that’s okay. I don’t have any plants. The first ones I planted came from my mother’s house so they have a wonderful connection for me.

It was a cold day all day today and now tonight is really cold. I have had to shut all the windows. I do hope tomorrow is as warm as they said.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

    • Hi Kat!

Yes we did and it was fun that You watched it on the net! I wanted to comment during the competition but my phone keeps changing every English word to something Swedish and it would have taken just too long to correct it. Only Ireland have won more times than we have and I think they won three times in a row and is holding that record for many years more.

It is amazing how the colors shine now when all leafs are new!

I have one! lily of the valley in my garden and it struggles to survive 🙂 but they have a few places they have taken over totally not far from my home. Mine comes from the place my mother used to live before shw moved to an apartment in a bigger village.

The weather turned here and it became a really nice day after all, too bad the clouds will come tomorrow again. I hope they’ll arrive late in teh day.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. Dianna

Hi Christer! Once again, late today. I think this might be the new way until the weather turns again. I have been outside all day and just came in. It was so hot today, I believe we reached 29 and I was in the sun most of the day. I was so grubby and grimy I was never so happy for a shower. We got our veg trug filled with soil once we went to get it. Lots of yard work, lots of back pain. 🙂 I hope you have a good breathing apparatus when you clean your shed. That would certainly NOT be a good disease to get. I had no idea voles did that. We apparently have voles around here, but I have no clue I see mice or voles. They are always very quick to get away. We had a baby bunny in the back yard tonight, eating grass. I made sure the dogs didn’t see it – I wouldn’t know what they would do with it. Probably would not even catch it! 🙂 I hope your headache went away and your day was good!

    • Hi Dianna!

We had far from Your temperatures, thankfully 🙂 but we did get a rather nice day and it looks like we’ll get just the same today.

I too get very unpleasant when getting too hot and especially if I haven’t been drinking as much water as I should have. Not many want to stay close when that happens 🙂 🙂

I have a good breathing protection but I couldn’t find any vole droppings so I think it would have been safe anyway. Voles look a lot like hamsters but with a longer tail but not as long as the ones mice have. Cute and deadly 🙂 🙂 But the hare plague is even worse, it is spread by mosquitoes and every now and again people get it and die here, not many but still!

Bunnies can bite rather well if threatened! not my favorite animals at all 🙂

It did and now I have a new one on the way. I have problems with my neck and shoulder at the moment so I think my head is placed somewhat wrong while I’m asleep. It helps the shouklder and neck during the night but my head doesn’t like it at all 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.
