A rather chilly morning.

I woke up a bit later than usual so the sun was already shining when we came out for our walk. It was only 5C (41F) and we could see our breaths when we were breathing. There was one big cloud in the sky and naturally it had to move so the sun got covered just as we were starting our walk. I got really angry to be honest 🙂 One cloud and it had to cover the sun when it for once actually shone 🙂 Normally I can’t hear any man-made sound that early but the first thing I heard, to my big surprise, was someone playing music really loud and the sounds echoed over the village.

Guess on what side of the sky the sun was :-)

I have no idea if it started just as I opened my door but I guess it woke up any neighbor living close and the sound suddenly stopped in the middle of the second song 🙂 I guess I’ll be hearing about this during the week 🙂 We walked down the road we usually do early mornings, I wanted to photograph spider webs but I could find very few since the high grass the spiders love now is either eaten or trampled by the cattle walking in that pasture. But what I found was a bit better and it happened just as the sun started to show again, I saw a dew covered dragonfly (or Troll spindle as the Swedish name is) and just beside it was a spider.

It took a while before I saw that spider :-)

I was wondering if the spider would try to get the dragonfly or if the dragonfly would try to take the spider as soon as it had dries up. I think the spider is too small to take a big dragonfly though and I’m not sure if dragonflies eat spiders, they eat insects but I’m not sure if they eat arachnids. We continued out to the bog and I think it must have been even chillier out there. I didn’t mind though because the air was totally fly free 🙂 We saw a tiny fox from a big distance but it was too quick to run away before I managed to focus the camera.

I had planned to go to the grocery store in the village where I work, I like that place and I really didn’t feel like going to the super market today but I changed my mind, I wanted to see what kind of hedge shears and grass trimmers they had. I prefer to buy Bosch when it comes to electric machines and they had the trimmers of that brand but not the hedge shears. So I need to find a place that sell Bosh hedge shears because I don’t want any other brand. I could of course by a petrol driven one, they don’t cost especially much more but to be honest, I would only use it every five years so I doubt it would be worth it. Petrol driven machines needs to be used otherwise they quickly give up. Electric machines usually don’t have that problem.

I wanted Orvar to turn around when I took some photos and since he's slightly deaf I had to shout out loud. There wasn't a single animal left in the forest after that :-)

Yes it was a bit chilly :-)

The weather will be rather nice today, sunny and up to 19C (66,2F). Tomorrow will be quite the opposite so I better enjoy this weather when it’s here. First however I need a pot of tea and something to eat, after that we might as well take another walk and perhaps I’ll bring one of the old cameras with me 🙂

    • Hi Joyce!

I have to admit that it was really nice even if it was that cold. As soon as the sun finally showed it didn’t feel cold at all.

We’ll get more rain tomorrow, I guess I should be happy that I never have to worry that my well will dry out but still, a few more days without any water from the sky would be nice 🙂 At least my squash plants grow again and I can see several buds, I wouldn’t be surprised if I only got either male or female flowers so I won’t get a single squash 🙂 🙂

I remember that You wrote about that troll spindle here 🙂 Last year was a fantastic troll spindle year here but this summer has been just too cold so I guess we won’t have that many now.

Time flies! I have nothing to look forward too until the first of advent.

      Have a great day!

    • Hejsan Susie!

    Hi Christer,
I was wondering who was going to eat whom with those two. A dragonfly would probably eat whatever it could take and I have seen spiders take on big things that got entangled. They weren’t trying to cut them loose either. They were wrapping and saving for later. 🙂

The unknown purple flower looks like Vicia americana or purple vetch. It’s a great plant for wildlife. Lots of things eat it including deer and bears.

I was looking online for hedge trimmers or some other tool that would use the battery that goes with my snowblower. I figure it isn’t good to leave a battery charging and doing nothing for 9 months. The only things I found that would use a 40V battery were a couple of chain saws and a chain saw on a pole. The chain saw on a pole would be useful but I can be clumsy with tools and figure that losing a body part would be a high price to pay for keeping a rechargeable battery functioning. 🙂

It’s pleasant here at the moment but the high heat is on the way. The weather woman was remarking that we haven’t had our first 90+ degree day yet and it was very unusual. I wouldn’t be disappointed if we didn’t have a 90 degree day ever. 🙂

    Enjoy the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

I’ve never seen a spider try to eat anything that can defend itself though, they always cut out wasps and bees and a troll spindle is dangerous for it. I guess we’ll never know because I can’t remember exactly where this was and I need thst sun to shine so I better can see things in the grass.

It’s more likely that flower is a Vicia cracca. It is very common around here and V. americana isn’t supposed to grow here at all. They all look very much alike though. No matter which one of them it is I like it in my garden 🙂 Grows well together with all the other weeds I have 🙂

It would be cool to have a chain saw on a pole but I’m pretty sure I would injure myself 🙂 I have my electric chain saw but it is a bit too clumsy to use when cutting down a hedge even if some of those branches most likely need something that strong to be cut down 🙂 I’ll keep on looking until I find the hedge shears I want, after all Bosch is a big brand here.

We’re having a really nice day here, thin clouds cover the sun most of the time but they are so thin that the sun shines through them, a weak wind is blowing too and it is aroun 67-68. Too bad a new low pressure is finding us tomorrow.

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

      • Caryn

My money is still on the spider but maybe they just went their separate ways.

Vicia cracca is logical since it’s Sweden and you do have lots of cows around you. I read that cow vetch has become very invasive here because people were planting it as forage for cattle. The stuff in my yard is regular old American vetch. 🙂

        July 11, 2015 at 5:23 pm

      • It had the upper hand by being active already. I tried to find anything today but saw nothing.

They are invasive but doesn’t seem to like well kept gardens, I guess that’s why it like mny garden so much 🙂 🙂

  4. I love sheep, I truly do, my husband says they are stupid creatures, but I think not,,
I really like the term Troll spindles,, its hot here 24 Celsius at 11 oclock, ,, call for a heat advisory,, imagine!

    July 11, 2015 at 5:23 pm

    • Hi Laurie!

I like sheep too but they have a tendency to always try to eat my clothes when I come close to them 🙂 🙂

Today is cloudy and chilly, very different from yesterday. We won’t get as much rain as they predicted yesterday though, always something to be happy about 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  5. Hi Christer,
The morning was cooler than it is right now. The weather is supposed to be in the 60’s tonight, but it doesn’t feel like that now. The next few days will be warmer than it has been. I just hope it stays dry.

The sun is beautiful right now, getting ready to set. It shines through all the boughs filled with leaves. Gracie has been out for quite a while. She loves the summer as long as it isn’t way too hot.

No movie night tonight-next week for sure. Friends couldn’t make it. Game night, though is on for tomorrow night.

    Have a good weekend!

    • Hi Kat!

The morning is a bit chilly, it feels worse than it is because of the high humidity. I think I’ll turn on a radiator or two just to keep the humidity outside.

My dogs love the summer because they can go in and out as they please, even if they usually want me to follow them all the time 🙂 They love this cool summer!

I would have to start a movie night around 11pm here if I wanted to stay outdoors 🙂 It will be way to light outside for some weeks more to do that 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.
