I had to turn on the radiators.

I’m glad I wake up as early as I do because then I got the chance to be outside in a reasonable nice weather ๐Ÿ™‚ Well it didn’t rain anyway and I almost saw the sun for a second before the clouds got too thick. I even think it was a bit warmer around 5 am than it is now ๐Ÿ™‚

The fog was thick up on the mountain this morning.

I couldn’t hear a single bird sing this morning and even the sheep were unusually quiet. I’m not surprised about the birds being quiet, it is that time of year now when they stop singing because they are too busy raising their young ones and all birds know where the borders go between their territories. The sheep however are rarely quiet but I guess they could feel what kind of weather ย we were going to get.

Meadowsweet, Filipendula ulmaria. It can be used in many ways. It contains different salicylic acids and can be used against pain but one can also make lemonade from the flowers. Never tried it but perhaps I should since we have lots of it here.

Much of the Bulrush plant is edible like the roots but also the flowers part as long as it is green. I've read that they should be eaten like baby corn.

I drove to the super market this morning too, I didn’t drive there until after 8 am since most people around here have vacation and I’m not sure if the dogs bark when I’m not around. I’ve heard they only bark if they see anyone walking close to the dog yard, they want to say hi I guess ๐Ÿ™‚ Today I didn’t buy just what I needed but also what I might need later in the week, lots of guessing with other words ๐Ÿ™‚ But I really don’t want to spend a lot of time driving around just because I need something that I could have bought last time I was there ๐Ÿ™‚

Well one of them did make a sound ๐Ÿ™‚

They have told us several times that rain is on its way but been wrong, not this time though. It started when I was on my way home. Just drizzle at first, then light showers now and again with long periods without any rain. Now it pours down, sort of thunder showers but I don’t think we’ll have any thunder. It is as cold as it usually is when thunder comes though so who knows. It is so chilly indoors now that I started the radiator in the kitchen just to keep the dampness out of my home. There will be no more walks until this calms down ๐Ÿ™‚

My Hollyhocks are a bit over two meters high now (much the same in yards).

So I might as well look at some of the dvd’s I have at home that I still haven’t watched. I’m a fan of animated movies so yesterday I watched The Penguins from Madagascar and I really liked it ๐Ÿ™‚ Today however I think I’ll watch sci-fi movies. I had hoped the dvd’s I ordered last week should have arrived yesterday, they are Enders Game, Seventh Son and the seventh season of The Big Bang Theory ๐Ÿ™‚ They were posted last Friday so perhaps they will arrive today instead, I do hope so because I really look forward to the big bang theory ๐Ÿ™‚

It feels like I need to start the radiator in the sitting room too, I’ll spend lots of time there if I’m going to watch dvd’s and it isn’t nice to sit still and feel cold so I better do that. But first I’ll have a big pot of hot tea and something to eat.

Have a great day!

    Hi Christer,
You’re tuning on the radiators and I’m cranking the AC. It’s supposed to be another 90ยบF day here. If it is, that will make it officially a heat wave. It’s very overcast right now so maybe it will not get there. Maybe it will even rain. I hope so.

What flower is the orange and black butterfly on? Thistle? Ragged Robin?

I did a grocery order the other day for delivery today. On a whim, I purchased the local produce weekly box which says it contains whatever is being harvested this week from farms around me. It came. It had beets, yellow carrots, red spring onions, kale (no idea what to do with that) and a whole lot of pickling cucumbers. I guess I will be doing some pickling today. Refrigerator pickling, not the other kind. Too hot for boiling water sterilization baths. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The experiment with my old Minolta is on indefinite hold. The new battery does not work in the camera even though it is the recommended replacement for the old one. I don’t know why it doesn’t work. The old one did but was very weak. Also, Rocky got hold of the film, chewed the box, chewed the plastic canister but did not, I think, manage to chew the actual roll of film. I see no damage on it and the leader was not pulled out farther than it should have been. Perhaps I should take that as a sign? ๐Ÿ™‚

Your hollyhocks look like mullein, one of my favorite roadside weeds. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hollyhocks are another plant, along with lilacs and poppies, that I want in the yard but keep forgetting to put there. I wonder if hollyhocks would do well in the useless piece of grass at the front that gets nothing but sun all day long all year long.

Enjoy the DVD’s and the rest of the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

I’m not sure I would like to swap temperatures even though it would be nice if it was a bit warmer here ๐Ÿ™‚ The raining has calmed down a lot now but it is unpleasant to be outside because of the high humidity.

It is a Centaurea of some kind, not quite sure which one though. I’ve tried to get it in to my garden several times but no luck so far.

I know we can buy those kinds of bags here too but instead of local farmers, I guess because there are so few growing anything else than potatoes or grains they put in any ecologically grown vegetable that is in season. I like pickled cucumbers and beetroots but never pickle anything myself, good luck with it!

How odd that the batteries don’t work! Any oxidation where the batteries sits? I hope You can fix it because I would like to see those photos ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m pretty sure You would be able to see if there was any damage to the film. It would have been a sign if he had chewed through the metal container too ๐Ÿ™‚

They do actually look much alike, at least until the flowers open up ๐Ÿ™‚ The first one actually did today so there will be a photo in my next post, Thursday that is.

I grow my hollyhocks in the soil I have here and that is almost only sand ๐Ÿ™‚ I think they will do great no matter where they grow ๐Ÿ™‚

The dvd’s I ordered didn’t come today either so I’ll watch the ones I already have here at home ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a great day!

Hi Christer! This is our last nice day – we start heating up again later on and by the weekend it should be horridly sweltering out! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Not happy about that. I am noticing that the morning are not as bright when I wake up and last night, when I was sitting outside on the patio reading that it felt like autumn. I was happy about that! ๐Ÿ™‚ But sadly we have likely another month of this before any changes – I hope I am wrong! Your pictures are so lovely today, such beautiful garden and flower pictures. Love the sheep one too! ๐Ÿ™‚ My favorites are the ones in the forest with the moss covered stumps. Those are lovely! I have heard of the big bang theory but not of the others. That’s one show I never watched (big bang). I heard its rather funny but you need to be technologically aware to understand what they are talking about? Not sure if that’s true. I love the hollyhocks! I have never had luck with them. My raspberry bushes are being great providers this year. Every day I head out to the patch to pick. I got 2 bowls full yesterday! Have a good evening – I hope the radiators are keeping the cottage warm!

    • Hi Dianna!

No heating up here at all ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m glad we don’t get it as warm as You do but it wouod be nice if it at least reached 20C. The sun still goes up so early that I don’t see much difference. It feels like autumn today ๐Ÿ™‚

No You definetaly don’t need to know any technology at all ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes they say lots of things most peoiple know nothing about but that’s not what’s funny ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t have the channel they show it on so I buy the dvd’s instead. They didn’t come today unfortunately but that means they’ll come tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

Hollyhocks tends to get attacked by funguses after a few years so they rarely last for long but they are favorites of mine anyway. Lots of raspberries here too but they are far from ripe yet!

Yes they keep the humidity outside so it feels much warmer already ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a great day!

    • Hi Joyce!

We both have heat problems, You have too much and I have too little ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ Lots of rain here today and the low pressures stand i line to drop of more I’m afraid. Well no need to water the vegetables anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

Have fun washing those things ๐Ÿ™‚ I guess the water willsplash a lot so You won’t feel hot ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a great day!

    • Hi Laurie!

      Thank You ๐Ÿ™‚

It is a bit too cold here to be honest but it will be a bit warmer by tomorrow they say. I sure hope so!

      Have a great day!

  5. Christer,
The air conditioning is blowing cold air keeping the heat and humidity at bay. Tomorrow is supposed to be warm but drier-I’m looking forward to that so I can finally turn of the AC which has been running for the last two days. The house got cold enough that I had to put slippers on.

Many of the flowers in my front garden have buds. The Russian sage is close, a day or two away from blooming. Today I noticed a tall flower which sort of looks like an aster. It is the only one so I don’t know where it came from.

We need ran desperately to reawaken my lawn.

You have cold, we have really hot. I’d like to live where there is a middle.

    Have a good day!

    • Hi Kat!

The humidiuty is our common enemy ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve turned of the radiators this morning because they say it will drop rather much. My home would feel much nicer if it just stayed low.

I sowed Russian sage this spring and I know I’ve planted them somewhere in the garden ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope they survive the winter, it would be nice to see where I put them ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m not sure if any of my asters gets the chance to flower this year, it has been so cold that they are way behind their scedule. It is much the same with all later flowering flowers here. Still I’ll show a few in my post tomorrow.

I wish I could send You some of our rain ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes is there a place that always have an in between climate? I would move there as soon as I could ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a great day!

  6. Christer, your country is so beautiful, all that greenery, those gorgeous hills…and tree’s. California’s been built up so much it’s hard to find a place for a nice drive with pretty scenery. Plus it’s crowded, tons of traffic. Would you believe we actually got over two inches of rain? Of course I’m sure none was saved…as it should have been. Thunder, lightening, wind, sheets of rain, falling branches..nearly hitting our car and a few did…tons of dry leaves from tree’s that were so dry from our drought, hit our windshield causing us to have to nearly stop. We made it to our destination though. In just one day the grass on all the lawns in the neighborhood began to green up. It was wonderful! Some humidity..and we are not used to that at all. I was delighted. Have a great week!

    • Hi Mona!

I do like it here ๐Ÿ™‚ even if the flies do theiur best to drive me insane ๐Ÿ™‚

Sweden is slightly bigger than California but we’re only nine millione people living here and around four million of us live in the thre big cities surroundings, so there are plenty of space left ๐Ÿ™‚

Two inches of rain! In summer! great! I guess most of it was sucked up by the ground though so I doubt there was very little filling up rivers and lakes. I do hope You’ll get more because You really need it!

      Have a great day!

  7. Christer, I also smiled after reading the title of this post since we have also had very warm temperatures recently, both here in New Hampshire and also in Virginia where we spent time doing some maintenance projects on our house there. We are so hoping it will sell before the coming winter, but it seems the realty market is very slow in a small town of 500 people. We have had the ac units operating in both places, but now we are back in NH and cooler weather is forecast for at least a few days. My favorite photo in this post was the old truck as well as the butterfly and the red flower (poppy?) in the last photo. Hope that your DVDs arrive soon so you can enjoy them on your vacation๐Ÿ‘

    July 22, 2015 at 1:14 pm

    • Hi Beatrice!

Yes we’re on opposite sides of the heat scale ๐Ÿ™‚

But surely there must be people who wants to move out to a smaller town to get away from all stress there is in bigger cities? That’s how I ended up in this little village at the outskirts of the world.

I do like the one with the tractor too!

The dvd’s came yesterday so I’ll start watching them today ๐Ÿ™‚

      Have a great day!
