The cold seems to stay calm which I’m grateful for, work friends who have had it got up to 40C fever (104F) and that’s not nice at all. So I’ll stop complaining about aching joints, stuffed nose and a sour throat as long as I don’t get worse 🙂 I do feel better already though so I guess I missed it this time.
The work day did pass rather quickly but still it felt like eons before I could leave. All I was thinking about was that I was going to get the new lens after work. It had arrived to the post office at the grocery store in Gudhem yesterday so I went there directly after work. The once rather big grocery store has now shrunken to a third of its previous size and today they also lost the contract to have the post office there.
Naturally the post service then had fetched my package and left it in a big store in Falköping instead, it took almost one hour longer to get home just because of that. I guess this means that the store in Gudhem won’t be around for much longer, it’s a good thing that we now days can order food from some of the big food chains and get it delivered at our doors, not all people have cars and the loss of the grocery store and the post office will make their lives difficult.
I changed lens the first thing I did when I came home and it is so nice to have autofocus once again 🙂 Some days it’s just impossible to focus manually, especially early mornings when the eyes really doesn’t want to do much at all but to sleep a while longer even if the brain says otherwise 🙂 Now I’m just waiting for that camera to arrive but I guess that’ll take some time more. You’ll understand what I mean when I tell You the whole story 🙂
The wind is really strong today, even the SAAB was tossed around every now and again on the way to the store that is placed at the top of the mountain. It isn’t raining any longer and it looks like the sun is trying to reach through the clouds to give us a pleasant afternoon, it looks like it is failing at the moment 🙂
It is time to make something to eat and then I think I’ll fall asleep in front of the tv 🙂
Have a great day!
I’m not sure what to write about today, nothing much has happened. The cold is still there just waiting for a chance to break out and the energy is still on low. I must admit that the day has passed rather quickly though, I haven’t had much time to look at the clock on the wall at work.
The weather could have been funnier, sometimes it rains and sometimes it doesn’t. No sunshine at all and fairly windy most of the time. Rather warm though so I have had the kitchen door open for a while now after work. We’ll get lots of more rain tonight and I guess the mushrooms are happy about it because they are now popping up everywhere.
I met my neighbor when we went out for our walk after work and he told me the wild hogs now have started to destroy the forest road, or the clean road as I cal it since grass covers most of it and the only thing the dogs get is wet when walking there on rainy days. He was right, so far they’ve only dug it up in small patches but they’ll soon rip it up totally. I’m not sure what the hunters will do about it but they have decided to do something about it because the hogs are now only a few yards away from the nearest house.
TOmorrow I’ll go to the store in Gudhem to get my new tele-photo lens but I’m still waiting for the camera. The camera has a pretty long way to go until it comes to me so I guess I won’t get it until next week sometime. It is time to get something to eat and then I’ll watch the news on tv.
Have a great day!
The rain poured down all night and continued for a long time during the day too, well I won’t complain because it looks like I’ve washed my car 🙂 I am however glad the wind has calmed down, I do like to fall asleep to the sound of a strong wind but it is no fun in driving around in it. Much better now days though since the SAAB is quite heavy. My little Mazda that I had before got tossed around in the most nasty ways sometimes and I don’t miss that at all 🙂
It is my birthday today and I usually don’t celebrate it but I tend to have it as an excuse to buy me something that I want. Last year I bought myself the Hasselblad camera and two lenses, this year is cheaper thankfully but yes one of the things is a camera and I’ll tell You more about it when it arrives. The second thing was something I didn’t expect to get. I saw this telephoto lens on the pawn shops auction site. It is the same I already have but the auto focus doesn’t work on that one I already have.
It was less than an hour before the auction would end and the price was only half of what it would cost as new, so I placed a bid and forgot about it. No one else placed another bid, which is odd because this is a good lens and many usually wants it so now it’s on its way here. I guess I’ll have it before the weekend arrives. Pawn shops used to be a good place to get rid of stolen things but not so any more, the one selling an item, private or a business, must know it isn’t stolen. If they would sell a stolen thing and get caught they would go down for receiving and selling stolen goods. They write down serial numbers and anything else so it is easy to check it oneself.
It is time to make something to eat and to watch the news.
Have a great day!
I would exaggerate if I said we’re having a storm here today but the winds are strong, so strong that they made it hard to keep the car in the middle of the road on my way home. I know I shouldn’t be surprised any longer but the prediction yesterday said we would get rain this evening but nothing before that. It started pouring down last evening at 9 pm and continued all night and almost to noon today 🙂 They now predict rain all night so I wouldn’t be surprised if nothing fell at all 🙂
What looked to become a very good apple year turned out to be a very bad one instead. The few apples that actually are hanging in the trees are small but very colorful. I have four apple trees in my garden and I doubt I’ll get enough to make an apple pie. I got almost no gooseberries and very few currants but lots of blueberries instead. I got more Aronia berries than I’ve ever gotten but they are so tart it is impossible to eat them. I’m glad the deers like them though, they have eaten loads of them 🙂
I think I’ll get me some blackberry bushes next year, we have wild ones just around the corner here and I found several ripe ones this year (and they were pretty big too!)! That rarely happens since the bushes grow where the sun rarely reach and the frost comes early. They are barely hardy here though but I think I’ll get some of those already growing here, I won’t tell You how just in case I’ll do it the illegal way 🙂 but I have already saved some seeds so I’ll sow them later this week.
It is time to make some food and today I’ll also have a cup of cocoa, autumn is here 🙂
Have a great day!
I want to thank You all for the kind comments in the previous post!
The day has an ominous feeling to it, You know the kind the people in disaster films always have before it all happens but they ignore until it is too late. The weather is unsettled, winds pretty strong and it’s only possible to see that the sun shines through edgy rips in the clouds.
I doubt any disaster will happen though, I can also feel like this just before I get a stomach flu and I think that’s more likely to be the reason 🙂 But isn’t it typical, we’ve had really nice weather all week, sunny warm days and chilly clear nights but as soon as the weekend starts so does the bad weather. I have to admit that it hasn’t rained but still, would it be so awful if we actually had some sunshine during the weekends too?
I’ve done the laundry and it is now hanging on the patio to dry so I have done all chores I was supposed to do. Well the grass isn’t mowed in a long time but I need some sunshine to dry it up before I even try that and there’s no risk of that happening until earliest next weekend. We’ll get lots of rain this coming week, glimpses of sunshine yes but not enough to dry anything up.
So I’ll stay calm as much as possible today, hoping that no stomach flu arrives despite the feeling. Nova will most likely stay close to me all the time and Sune will be staying by the door, waiting for Orvar to return. They were best of friends and were never far away from each other. Bertil also stays close to me now, he looked at Orvar as if he was his brother and is worried that he isn’t showing up. But life goes on and hopefully it will take at least ten years until I have to say goodbye to any of them again.
Have a great day!
I went to the vet with Orvar early this morning. He had given up totally and hadn’t eaten for a few days. Now he’s with his brother again.
I’ll take a few days off and see You all on Sunday again.
No frost last night but I’m pretty sure we’ll get it tonight. They are predicting 4C (39F) and here in little Siberia that usually means below 0C (32F) and frost. The night will be clear too so a thick layer of frost on my car tomorrow won’t be a surprise to me. I was a bit surprised this morning however, I opened the kitchen door to let Sune out for a while and in to the garden jumped a doe.
She didn’t care about Sune at all and he couldn’t care less of her. I closed the door as soon as he came in and she started eating the berries on the Aronia bush. I’ve always thought it was the birds that ate them 🙂 The berries are, kindly said, nasty tart 🙂 and I can’t understand how they have become popular to have in juice and jams. The health freaks eat lots of them too because they are fully packed with vitamines and anti oxidants but they just taste nasty 🙂 I suddenly remembered that I needed socks while she was eating those berries and went outside, she was gone within a second 🙂
I forgot to tell You yesterday what I saw on my way to work. I pass a huge stable where a trotting trainer have all his horses. Every morning they tale them out to the paddocks and it does happen that those rather nervous horses take their chance to run away while they are walking to the paddock so I always drive slow until I passed the place. Yesterday I saw one horse running like crazy in a small grove of trees. It ran fast but it looked a bit odd. I can’t say what it was but something wasn’t right.
I drove so slow that I almost stood still with the car when I saw the horse standing in a ditch. It was then I also saw a person hanging to the bridle 🙂 From what I can understand by seeing this the man had never let go of the bridle and just been forced to hold on for his life 🙂 The poor man looked a bit shaken to put it mildly and his clothes had seen better days. All cars that now had arrived to the place stood absolutely still, first we wanted to see if the man could walk at all and that he could but he did limp badly. Then we stood still until he had come so far away that the sound from our cars wouldn’t stress the horse to do something similar again. I guess that man still doesn’t feel too well and I do hope he loves horses otherwise I doubt he still works there 🙂
It is time for something to eat and to check that the radiators are on, the night will be a tad chilly I think 🙂
Have a great day!
I thought it wouldn’t arrive in time this year but it did on the last day of the first seven days in september. I’m talking about the frost. To be honest, it did feel cold but not that cold and the thermometer didn’t show that it was below 0C (32F). But I realised it had arrived when there was a thick layer of ice on my car 🙂 It was parked outside the garage just where the bog starts a bit lower than where my cottage stand.
I looked t the thermometer when I came home and it had dropped to 0,8C (33,4F) after I had left for work. The day was rather pretty today, sunny and almost warm but as soon as I stopped working the clouds arrived and if they stay during the night we won’t have frost again. I wouldn’t mind if we had though, there were considerable less flies out flying when we were out walking after work. Not that there were so extremely many before either but I could notice a big difference.
Nothing much else has happened today, it has been slow and sometimes it felt like the day never would pass at all but like always it did 🙂 I bought a big cheese cake on my way home, the Swedish variety. It is so big that I won’t be able to eat it all today 🙂 I hope I have some raspberry jam to have with it but I’m not sure. I do know I have gooseberry jam so that’ll have to do if I don’t have any raspberry.
It is time to put it in the oven and then I’ll eat half of it in front of the tv 🙂
Have a great day!
We’ve not had the nicest of weathers since yesterday afternoon. Strong winds, heavy rainfalls and high humidity and nor forgetting low temperatures. I know it was just the same during the night because I woke up and went downstairs. All the dogs were farting badly and just as I opened the door I realised Orvar also had a really bad stomach, we all noticed that when he farted on his way out. My kitchen still smell like chlorine this morning 🙂
We didn’t get out on a walk until way after 8am because of the bad weather but now I can see that the clouds are getting thinner and I almost saw the sun there for a while. They say we’ll get sunshine this afternoon and it will last for the rest of the week. I wouldn’t be surprised if the first frost comes next week if the sky is clear during the night, it would normally have come here this week but it has just been too cloudy during the nights to allow that to happen.
As You all know by now I almost never buy plants in fear of getting the Spanish slug to this area. That slug has no natural enemies here so it spreads like crazy and eat everything it reaches. Some people kill over 1000 every day in their gardens (and they become pretty big those slugs), otherwise they would have very little left in their gardens at all. There is however one slug that injures them and often also kill them, the Leopard slug (we call it the Panther slug), Limax maximus. I can happily now tell You that I have loads of the Leopard slug in my garden 🙂 It seems they like my warm compost and have multiplied there in big numbers 🙂 I did think I had unusually few slugs at all this summer 🙂
They only eat decaying plant parts so I will take care of these slugs as if they were my own children 🙂 🙂 🙂 Even if the Spanish one would try to get in to my garden it will most likely not be especially successful and that makes me happy 🙂 I guess that these slugs can be a reason the badgers like my garden so much that they visit it every night, they just love a juicy slug 🙂 It isn’t often one hear anyone being happy because they have lots of slugs in their garden 🙂
It is time to do the laundry and after that I’ll have a pot of tea and a small nap in front of the tv 🙂
Have a great day!
Today is one of those kind of days when one can sleep it all away without getting a bad conscience, cold (barely reached 10C, 50F), high humidity and drizzly most of the time. I’ve already napped for an hour but that’s because I woke up around 2:30 last night and had difficulties falling asleep again. I must have dosed of on and off but I do remember long periods thinking if I just as well wouldn’t get up.
Both the Norwegian and Swedish forecasts says lots of rain either this evening or tonight and both says we’ll have rather wonderful weather on Monday again 🙂 I’m pretty sure they are right about the rest of the day and tomorrow and wouldn’t be surprised if they were right about Monday as well 🙂
Before I took that nap I opened the door to let out Teodor, he stood there for a while and turned back in, he’s not a fan of any kind of rain, not even drizzling. I took a look at the garden and looked straight in to a doe’s eyes 🙂 I recognise her by now and it is the one that follows us with the Deerstalker 🙂 We looked at each other for a short while before I closed the door and she slowly walking towards the fence.
Almost every year since I moved here we’ve gotten the first night with frost this week, at latest on the seventh but I’m pretty sure that won’t happen this year. How strange that feels 🙂 It could happen on the night towards Monday though because we’ll have a clear sky but no predictions show even close to those low temperatures. I don’t mind but it would kill off those last flies in the field and a few of the moose flies in the forest. We would still have flies around, these old tree cottages gives them plenty of places to hide from the killing cold nights and even through winter.
I think it is time to take another walk with the dogs before any heavy rain starts to fall. I could do lots of things inside the cottage but I feel I deserve a day of doing nothing but being lazy 🙂
