I opened the door for the dogs yesterday evening and to my big surprise I saw that the world had turned white again. Not much snow, perhaps 2-3 cm (around an inch) and I thought that since it would be sunny and rather warm today it would melt away fast. So for once I almost liked it 🙂 and didn’t think much of it any more.
We did get sunshine and it was rather warm too but that snow just didn’t want to melt away so we still have rather much of it left. It will stay above freezing though and they say it will both snow and rain tomorrow so my hopes are that it’ll go away by tomorrow instead.
I had planned to go to the little lake today because I thought that since it was a few weeks since the hunters were here the last time they most likely would come today, after all it would be rather warm and sunny. So just before we were going out lots of cars passed by my cottage. There were no hunters where I had planned to walk today so it didn’t bother me at all for once. It was such a wonderful morning so we were out walking for one and a half hour.
It wasn’t until I came home that I realised that there were lots of cars parked outside my neighbors cottage, I think their little daughter has her birthday today. So to be honest, there might not have been a single hunter here today 🙂 So we went out into the forest later on instead. Lots of fox tracks all over the village today, I think this is when the males starts courting their ladies so any time now we’ll be hearing that odd barking howling sound they make. It does sound very odd and perhaps scary if one doesn’t know what it is.
I’ve done my chores, two rounds of laundry and that is extremely much for being me. I had a few beach towels and they are so big that it’s easier to do them by themselves. They’ve been hanging outside in the wind to dry and I just love that smell they have after drying in the wind.
I think I still can have a cup of tea before it’s too late and I’ll be awake all night so I better stop here 🙂
Have a great day!
We had a rather wide rip in the clouds where the sun would be able to shine through when it finally would rise but naturally that rip closed together as soon as the sun was about to rise above the mountain 🙂 I’m not surprised at all, that’s the way nature works when I want something, like sunshine 🙂
At least it didn’t rain so we went out into the rather strong winds and since it is rather warm outside I didn’t need any scarf and I think the wind did clean out my brain rather good, no dust in there right now 🙂 It did however not take long until the rain started to fall but at first it was mostly drizzle. Drizzle in strong winds are like a heavy shower on a wind free day 🙂
No hunters out today but I got a bit confused when I suddenly heard a shot. Another problem with strong winds is that it can bring sound so good that something happening far away will sound as if it was fairly close. Even though the sound was pretty loud it still had a kind of dampened sound so I figured that the hunter must be pretty far away anyway. I couldn’t see any tracks that would suggest that any hunters were out nearby so I guess I was right.
This will be a do nothing day and that’s quite ok. Tonight they’ll show the second episode of the latest season of Grimm so I’ll have that to look forward to, the rest of the day will most likely be a book reading day.
Have a great day!
The steady wind feels much stronger than they predicted but the gusts seems much weaker on the other hand. It isn’t as bad as I thought though. The rain however is a bit nasty, it is anything from drizzle to heavy showers and none of it is nice when one is out on a walk 🙂 Even the dogs hurried home today.
The mail hadn’t arrived when I came home and I’m not sure if I want to go outside to get it in this weather. I’m afraid I need to though, the lid on my box tends to open up when the wind blows this hard and everything inside will get soaked so I guess I better get out there to get it. I will get annoyed if there isn’t anything there when I finally get out 🙂
The fire is burning in the stove, not because it is especially cold but the humidity tends to eat its way inside. Today is a day for relaxing and most likely falling asleep in front of the tv. It is definetaly a day for hot cocoa and some nice sandwiches.
Have a great day!
There was still some daylight when I left work today, the sky was clear so that did help to make the day look brighter. It was also very calm and it is the calm before the storm. The storm Tor (or Thor in English) will hit tomorrow and continue till late Saturday. The predicted wind forces vary a bit still but the gusts will be tough. To be honest, Tor will mainly hit Norway and he will be much more furious there, we’ll just be at the edge of it.
The wind will come from south-west mostly so it will be my neighbors cottage which will get hit and that cottage will keep the wind away from my cottage 🙂 I will hear the wind though and I’m pretty sure it will roar. That’s the reason I don’t mind living down the chilly hole where I live because I usually never notice storms beside the sound from them. My neighbors cottage is placed higher up and they both hear and feel the storms, their cottage tremble when the gusts hit and the sound inside can be so loud that they can’t sleep. I always than them for having their cottage higher up than my cottage 🙂
I have my new phone now and since it is the same model as the one I had before the change has gone smoothly. I normally dislike changing phones because they never work the same way so it takes forever to learn the new one. I had to write down all the phone numbers from my contacts by hand though, as soon as one puts in the new sim card in the new phone the old one sort of dies. I couldn’t save my contacts in the sim card either since the old card was a bigger one than the new one. That I didn’t like.
It is time to have something to eat and I think I’ll have a cup of tea even if it might make me stay awake all night 🙂
Have a great day!
It has been so warm that most of the snow now is gone 🙂 There is however some ice left, especially where I have my gate towards the road. I noticed that this morning when I was going to work.
The ditch that is supposed to take all the melted water has seen better days, it got a bit destroyed when they put down the sewer system last year. So I could see some ice by the gate and also a lot of water.
I managed to get down to the gate without slipping to my big surprise but I stood on the wrong side of the gate, the hasp to open it up was on the other side. So I took one step out into the ice and water. I felt how my foot lowly started to slide away all by itself and when I tried to stand more on my other foot it too started to wander away by its own accord.
Everything happened in slow motion, I desperately tried to get a good grip on the gate but nothing helped as I slowly, slowly slid down into the water back first 🙂 It was so ridiculous that I just lay there on my back in the water laughing out loud as the water, rather cold I can tell You, worked its way in towards my body 🙂 🙂 🙂 I had to roll around to be able to get up while the water was running down my legs.
I was thinking about going inside again and change clothes but decided that I just as well could drive to work because who knows if this had happened again the next time I reached the gate? It took a few hours but I did finally dry up 🙂
It is time for something to eat and some warm cocoa I think.
Have a great day!
I’m late as always on Mondays and I’ll have to pay my bills after this so todays post will be a short one.
It is rather warm outside and the snow is melting rather fast, the only problem I have with that is that the roads in the village get so Icy that it is hard to walk here. I almost slid by my mailbox when I came home 🙂
The bigger roads however were really good and thank g for that because it was so thick fog that I hardly could see the road sometimes. So once again I must admit that they were right in the weather predictions!! That can actually be a sign of the end of the world as we know it 🙂 🙂
It is time to pay my bills and after that I’ll have something to eat.
Have a great day!
They had promised fog all day today and fog we had but as we say over here,it was nothing to write home about. It is not until now when the sun is about to go down that it really thickened up properly. I guess that it will be as thickest when I’m on my way to work tomorrow, when I really don’t want any fog 🙂 I must however admit that the predictions were absolutely right and that isn’t something I say often 🙂
It has been a rather nice day temperature wise, 4C (39,2F) and the snow is melting away rather fast. There’s still plenty around but the dripping from our roofs have been steady and I have seen gravel on the road where they have plowed it. Even the stairs to my door will be snow free by tomorrow if it doesn’t get too cold during the night. Still, I have started a fire in the stove just in case the humidity outside would try to get indoors too.
I’ve done the laundry like I always do on Sundays, I still have a few working t-shirts to do since the powder paint tends to get stuck on anything that is washed at the same time. I really should do the dishes too but I don’t feel that I have the energy for it 🙂 I’m pretty sure it won’t run away so it can wait until tomorrow instead. I’ll also make dinner for work today, I’ll have meatballs, breakfast sausages and I think pasta with a tomato sauce. I really would like fried potatoes but then I need to boil the potatoes and then fry them and as I said I don’t have the energy for it 🙂
Well I better start with the dinner and after that I’ll make myself something else to eat now. All the animals have already gotten their food so they will all sit by my side while I make my food just in case I would drop something or give them bits of it 🙂
Have a great day!
It has been cold when one walks out in the morning thinking that it’s really warm when it still is -3,5C (25,7F) 🙂 The weak wind we had yesterday was gone but lots of the rime and snow that had been on the trees were gone, at least close to the village. It was a very different thing out on the bog. We went out here because no hunters showed up this morning and tomorrow will be too late since it will start to warm up rather much.
Today I wanted to walk where we usually walk on the bog but had to take a small detour because of the deep snow that had accumulated amongst the smaller bushes. Someone with small feet had walked there recently but as I followed those tracks towards the island we always follow they suddenly stopped, they sort of started in the middle of nowhere 🙂 It was a very pleasant morning and the dogs ran around everywhere but still close to me so I didn’t have to shout to get them to come back.
We had been walking for around 45 minutes when we came to the point where we usually turn back again but something told me to continue for a while and suddenly I started to recognise some fallen trees. I think I walked perhaps ten meters (much the same in yards) away from where I usually stop and suddenly I found my foot prints from last Sunday 🙂 Instead of turning right I had continued towards north for around 45 minutes last week 🙂 I realised that I had a very clear picture in my mind of how it looked ahead of me but not about how it actually looks from where I came 🙂
In my mind I had open space on both directions but the truth is that the area where I came from is filled with lots of thin birches 🙂 Now I know where to turn if I get the chance to walk there again this winter. So instead of walking back the same way we came we just walked back to the other side where we walked the last week. We could hear one or two dogs bark in the distance but I don’t think it was hunting dogs, these didn’t sound as if they were on a mission, more like they had loads of fun 🙂 I also heard the same chainsaw we heard last Sunday.
Sometimes friends on Facebook show where they have been running with the help of gps I think. I wonder if I could do something like that with my new phone? It would actually be nice to be able to see exactly where I walked and if I get that deep into the bog as I believe I do. Perhaps one need one of those exercising jigamathings they all now days where, I think it takes the time and pulse and all those sort of things. I need to check that, I know I have gps in both this old phone and the new one so perhaps there’s a chance?
It is time to make a pot of tea or perhaps coffee, watch some ski biathlon on tv and then out for another walk again. I’ll send six more rolls of film to the developer on Monday so hopefully we’ll have lots to see some time next week or the week after that.
Have a great day!
I woke up around 4am today by the nasty smell of cat poop. It is impossible to ignore so up I went and down to the bottom floor. I walked very carefully just to avoid where ever it might be laying on the floor, Teodor doesn’t go to the litter box if his brother has been there before him. But I had to sort of apologize to him because he had actually gone to the shower and pooped where the water goes down the drains.
I do prefer that he goes there than anywhere else to be honest. The smell was truly nasty but what was even more nasty was all the worms I saw. My first thought was that I would need to get some wormingpills directly after work but then I remembered that I should have some in the cupboard that contains everything and right I was. I had just enough pills for all of them, the dogs too 🙂 The dogs were no problem but the cats did struggle a bit. Thankfully none of them tried to bite me but they sure weren’t going to make it easy for me 🙂
So glad to have done the job without injuries on either me or the cats and that I wouldn’t have to go to the pharmacy anyway I relaxed and tried to get that awful smell out of the cottage. I think it took around 20 minutes before Bertil threw up and he too had worms. I’m pretty sure 20 minutes is too little for the pill to work so I had to go to the pharmacy anyway. I think he got so surprised when I wanted to give him another pill when I came home from work so even if I just dropped it down his mouth he swallowed it without any fight this time 🙂
It was no fun in the grocery store, people in the town of Falköping just don’t understand how to behave in the isles. If you have missed something in an isle you just don’t try to turn around with the cart in the isle when they are trying to fill up the shelves with new items, it is especially bad if you don’t understand that the isle is just too narrow to do such a thing because you will get stuck :-)One shouldn’t just leave the cart either because the ones behind might want to continue with their shopping and not wait until the person finally have found what ever it was.
Another thing that isn’t good is to decide that all the rest of the customers are walking in the wrong direction and refuse to step aside when you meet them. I think that, for some reason, that it might be they who are right since they all walk the same direction. Some people just don’t understand that 🙂 Well I got out in one piece and fetched my phone and drove home. Isn’t it fun how many different sizes a sim car can have? It must be a rule that the new phone never should have the same kind that is in the old one. So here I have this new phone but I can’t use it 🙂
Something even more fun is that when one is waiting to reach an operator and is number two in line, the old phone decides that this was boring and turn itself off 🙂 The first time I only waited for twenty minutes, the second for twenty-five 🙂 But I’ll have the new sim card on Tuesday they think. Life is just too fun sometimes 🙂
It is time to make some tea and something to eat. Tomorrow will be chilly too but after that it’ll get warmer again. Oh the joy of driving on slippery roads on Monday 🙂
Have a great day!
I started to get bored yesterday so I thought that must mean I’m getting better. So off to work I drove today, the morning was slightly chilly -18C (-0,4F) and the ice on the car windows sat as if it was glued 🙂 Can’t even pretend I didn’t think that I still might be sick and should stay at home one more day 🙂
I had a rather calm day but I’m still so tired that it would be really nice to go to bed already now but I will fight and not go to bed until 9pm 🙂 I must admit that it feels nice to know that it is Friday tomorrow and that my work day ands at noon 🙂 I’ll drive to Falköping to pick up my new phone so I might as well buy everything I need during the weekend in the super market since that’s where they have the package delivery place now days.
It is just as cold now as it was this morning but all weather sites says that we on Sunday will get much warmer temperatures and it will stay warm for several days after that. Normally I would say I like it but it is still so early that we most likely will get nasty cold weather again so it could just as well stay cold until spring. The roads will be very slippery for a while now and that I don’t like. I don’t mind if the snow melts away though 🙂
It is time to put more fire logs in the stove and to make myself something to eat. I do hope it isn’t as cold tomorrow morning as it was today, it took a long time for my fingers to get warm again 🙂
Have a great day!
My old home town was snowed in today, they got almost 40cm (16 inches) of snow during the night and early morning according to the news. Nothing worked, especially not the trains and trams. The occasional bus managed to go but most seemed to stand still. This is a city close to the ocean so it isn’t often they get that much snow. I remember the last time they got even more snow there and it was November 17th 1995. It fell so much snow that it took them four days to get the traffic to work again.
I had a day of from work that day or a night of since I worked nights and was out walking with my dogs in the snow storm, they loved to jump into the huge snow piles, some over 1,5 meters high (much the same in yards). Cars were just left in the middle of the roads and people were locked in at Volvo where I worked at the time, they refused to let people out until at least the bigger road outside the factory was cleared 🙂
Here today however we might have gotten 5cm (2 inches) of snow and the rime we had got replaced by a thin layer of snow instead, almost as beautiful since the snow is very fluffy. As You all know I’m not a big fan of winter but it would be better if it stayed chilly until spring arrived because the roads will be nasty slippery when nit starts to thaw again and it will by the end of this week according to all predictions. So when that finally happens I do hope it stays above freezing point.
It is time to start a fire in the stove, we’re not even close to any thaw tonight or the coming days so I better start now so the warmth stays in the cottage all night. There’s no wind to talk about so that won’t be any problems.
Have a great day!
I’m not sure what it is I’m having but I’m not feeling well. Freezing a bit, nausea a bit, hot a bit and very tired. I also have pain in every muscle I have but I think I can blame that on the walk in deep snow yesterday 🙂 I guess those three hours helped what ever it is I have to break out.
So I’m not surprised that the sun shone all day today when I really couldn’t be outside enjoying it. It was still below 0C (32F) but the sunshine was so warm that I could see dripping from the roof and lots of the rime has fallen of the trees and bushes in my garden. This warmer weather didn’t stay for long though, it has already started to drop and tomorrow we’ll also get lots of snow, so fun.
We are supposed to be able to see four planets in a line from the 20th but naturally we’ll mostly have cloudy skies so I’m hoping I’ll see the planets tonight before it gets cloudy, they won’t be in line because Mercury hasn’t caught up with the other ones yet. So if You look up the sky You’ll be able to see Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Mercury.
I can see changes in the length of the day now when we’re having a clear sky, now there’s still the last remnants of daylight in the sky at the time I stop working at 5pm 🙂 It is actually not pitch black any longer. It doesn’t last long though, it will be pitch black by the time I’ll be home but just seeing the difference sort of make me believe there’s a brighter future 🙂
It is time to put more fire logs in the stove and perhaps make me something to eat.
Have a great day!
I waited for quite some time today but no hunters showed up. I wonder if they might have stopped for the season or if they just changed place to hunt at, they have a rather small area but I think it is split in two parts and sometimes they’re here and sometimes in the other place. It was quite chilly but not as cold as they had predicted in any weather site. No wind and the world filled with rime.
I had decided to walk the way I almost always do and try to go round the once rather big island in this previous shallow lake. I’ve been looking at aerial photographs so I knew more or less how to walk to arrive where we went yesterday afternoon. Instead I changed my mind the last second when we reached the bog and walked to the place we were yesterday and decided it would be nice to walk the known area on our way back home again.
The aerial photographs really doesn’t show how it looks on the ground 🙂 They show the big pines (the most common tree out there) and spruces very well but not the tiny bog-myrtle plants which grows everywhere or the birches in all varieties of sizes 🙂 So when we had walked for almost one and a half hour I realised that I had no real idea where I was 🙂 I knew I had to be very close to the place where I was supposed to be but wasn’t sure if I would continue or go back. It would have been so much easier if the sun had shone like all weather sites said it should. Then at least I would have known if I had started to walk in circles 🙂
The bog is around 10 square kilometers (3,861 square miles) so it is possible to get totally lost but at the same time one can hear things happening on the opposite side of it. Today I heard a chainsaw and could have followed that sound to get out on the other side if needed. Still, the snow was pretty deep in most places so I would have no energy to go anywhere when I finally had arrived to the other side 🙂 I decided to go back the same way we had come (after looking at the aerial photographs again when we had come home I realise I was perhaps only 30 meters (much the same in yards) to where I normally walk 🙂
The sun never showed but just as I finally knew where we were and almost back to where we started the fog began to roll in over the bog. Tobe lost a sunny day is bad enough but to be lost when thick fog comes isn’t good at all. We arrived back home to the cottage after three hours and we are all very tired but I know the dogs loved this 🙂 I had to keep an extra eye on Nova, she has started to become deaf on one ear and the other is usually concentrated on other things than me saying stuff to her 🙂 The risk of her wandering of is big but today she finally understood that I really wanted her to listen to me and she also followed Sune when I called for him.
I didn’t see any animals but lots of tracks after them. I think we scared away a moose because the place where it had been laying still looked very fresh. There also were tracks from hogs, Red deer, Roe deers, and Black Grouse. I also think I saw tracks from a fox but they were a bit old so it could just as well have been tracks from a hunting dog. If the long-term weather predictions are right we might have a chance of going out on the bog next weekend too, they say it will become warmer next Sunday so if the hunters aren’t around I’ll go out there again but the usual way instead 🙂
It is time to make some rose-hip soup, there’s nothing better after a long walk on the bog. The dogs are sleeping and have been since we came home 🙂
Have a great day!
It was pretty cold here this morning but since there was no wind it actually was quite nice outside. I thought the hunters would come today as they have lately on Saturdays so I hadn’t planned to walk in the forest today but they didn’t so we’ve been out there a couple of times today. I thought at first that we were going to get some fog but it turned out to be a tiny snowfall that didn’t last especially long.
The snow on the ground is a bit difficult to walk in, it’s more like crushed ice to be honest so it feels like I’ve been running a marathon today 🙂 It has been good exercise not only for me but for the dogs too, actually so good that Nova on our first walk for the day suddenly turned homewards long before I thought of going home again 🙂
They say that we’ll get sunshine tomorrow and I do hope the hunters just didn’t switch the day they were going to hunt because I’m planning on going out to the bog and it would be nice if the sun shines since it will be a bit chilly tomorrow. We did however take a short walkout there in the afternoon just in case they have changed the day. The sun almost broke through the clouds but only almost. It is an amazing feeling standing out there in the middle of nowhere, no sounds from the modern world can be heard, just the sound when the feet hit the snow while walking and the occasional raven flying by.
I had to order a new mobile phone yesterday evening. The old one just died and it took over five minutes before it started again. I guess I should feel lucky that it actually did 🙂 The phone has behaved slightly odd for quite some time now so I really should have ordered one long ago. They still make the one I have now, so I won’t have to learn how the new one works 🙂 I think I should feel lucky about that too 🙂 It is water and dust proof, something one need when being a powder painter. That powder paint gets through the tiniest of gaps and will short-circuit the best of phones.
The guy I was talking to said he would make sure they shipped it too me directly, so I hope I’ll get it before the old one dies totally, it is the only phone I have now days and also the only alarm clock I have 🙂 I always wake up early so I’m pretty sure I would get to work in time anyway but I would of course sleep too long if I for once didn’t have any alarm clock to wake me up 🙂
It is time to star the fire in the stove again, I had it going all morning but it hasn’t been so cold that I had to have the fire burning all day thankfully.
Have a great day!
It wasn’t as cold as they had predicted this morning, only -14C (6,8F) but I saw on the thermometer that it had dropped down to -21C (-5,8F) after I had left. I’m so glad it waited until I had left 🙂 It doesn’t matter if the wind doesn’t blow, in the morning that’s always a nasty temperature especially if I have to scrape the car windows.
I could see, even if it was very dark, that the world was quite beautiful. Everything was covered in a thick layer of rime. Thankfully everything still were when I drove away from work. Rime is very thick frost, ice sheets, and they are very brittle so the weakest wind will break it and destroy it so it fall to the ground. Even the ground gets covered in it and it gives a very strange sound when one walks on it.
I drove to Falköping and stopped to buy fire logs and seeds for the birds. We tend to spoil the birds by giving them only sunflower seeds, so when we can find any sunflower seeds and buy the seed mix instead they tend not to eat the other seeds, they just throw it on the ground. Nova and Sune thanks them every day because they seems to love those seeds on the ground, very odd.
I went to the big grocery store, bought what I needed for the weekend and picked up my packages and was back to the car within twenty minutes. The traffic wasn’t as bad as it usually is and it was easy to find a parking spot, I guess people had listened to the warnings about not getting out in to the traffic unless they really needed because of the cold weather.
The sun was still shining when I came home but I could see clouds getting closer, so I hurried to change to my new winter boots so we could go out for a walk. They wrote that these shoes were slip proof and if they mean they have proof that one can slip with these shoes they are absolutely right 🙂 They are however much better tha´n any of the alternatives I have.
Tomorrow will be cloudy they say and therefore less cold, only around -13C (8,6F) but the fog they predicted as late as yesterday seems to have vanished I’m afraid. Too bad because it would have made the rime even thicker than it was today.
It is time for something to eat and some tea I think.
Have a great day!
It was -18,4C (-1,1F) when I drove to work this morning and it isn’t much warmer now. Well less cold is perhaps the better choice of words 🙂 but there’s no wind so it doesn’t feel that bad to be honest. The snow on the ground is very noisy though, it sounds like the ground is breaking every time I take a step 🙂 Tomorrow morning will be even colder they say, how fun.
The good news though is that my winter boots has arrived to the post office in Falköping so I’ll fetch them on my way home from work. They deliver the packages in a super market so I can buy what I need there at the same time. I hope the traffic will be less bad because of the cold weather because even though the town is small the traffic there is just insane! It is hard to find a parking spot too I’m afraid. The weather institutes are asking people not to be outside unnecessary when it is as cold as it will be tomorrow so I hope people listens and stays at home so I can get a parking space easily 🙂
Professor Snape is dead and by that I mean the great actor Alan Rickman. I’ve seen and admired him in many movies but for me he will always be Professor Snape, the only truly interesting character in the Harry Potter movies. He had a voice that could make any boring text interesting, someone once said that he could read through a telephone book and make it sound as if he was reading poetry 🙂 I think that was true 🙂
The fire is burning in the stove and it is time to make something to eat. It is definitely a hot cocoa evening and I think cheese sandwiches are the best one can have to hot cocoa 🙂
Have a great day!
The Zorki 6 takes quite good photos but I have edited away most of the light leak in this photo. All photos will be more manageable if You click on them.
They had finally made the roads rather good after the last snow fall when it suddenly started to snow again. Now it starts to get colder so I have no high hopes of good roads tomorrow morning. The weather predictions vary slightly but they all show that it from now on will get colder and colder. It might be as cold as -17C (1,4F) or even colder on Friday morning and it will most likely be even colder during the weekend. We all know how sure the predictions longer than one day are so who knows what it will be like 🙂
I do hope the boots I ordered have arrived by then but it won’t be slippery on the roads if it get that cold anyway. Ice gets a rough surface if the temperature drop below -10C (14F) and the deep snow we walked in on Sunday is less high because lots melted these two warm days, I will most likely be able to walk on the icy crust when it gets that cold. I think I’ll buy more deer food even if they haven’t come here yet to eat what I’ve put out. I think they feel trapped here because they have put up new fences outside my garden, sheep fences. They are pretty high and there are six electric cables going parallel around the pasture. No wolf walks through that without learning that it is very painful.
The deer will be pretty desperate if they can’t kick through the snow to get to the grass they want so I’m pretty sure they will turn up again as soon as it gets nasty cold in two days. I also hope that Nova will realise that it is better to stay in a warm dog house when it gets that cold outside than to get in to the garage when I’m off to work, she can get in without any problems but she can’t get out again 🙂 They have at least left the rug where it hangs in front of the entrance. I have so many screws holding it now that it would take so much work to get rid of it that not even a stubborn Sune will be able to remove it 🙂
It is time to make some cocoa and perhaps a sandwich too. The fire is burning in the stove and it will keep on burning until I go to bed.
Have a great day!
They have just e-mailed me lots of photos from the film developer today and I thought I would go through them today.
Here are some samples of what they look like. Unfortunately it seems that I have light leaks that I didn’t know of so I’ll try to fix them as soon as I’ve figured out where they are.
So have a great day and see You tomorrow!
It was rather warm when I woke up this morning and as warmest today we reached 2,4C (36,3F), so I could hear dripping from the roofs on our way to the bog this morning. I had dressed for much colder weather though so after a while I had to take of the scarf and a short while after that I had to open up my jacket, it felt like I was boiling inside 🙂 I could hear the wind blowing when we went out but didn’t really realise how hard it blew while we were out walking.
I must admit that I got surprised over how much snow it was out there and we couldn’t walk the way we usually do out there because the bushes had gathered so much snow that it reached way above my knees. I’m glad I know the place well because it is easy to get lost out there. I talked loudly all the way since there are lots of animals out there I really don’t want to surprise, like moose and wild hogs 🙂 I could hear them getting away from us the times we came too close to them.
We hadn’t come especially far when I realised we would have to go back again, my rubber boots were filled with snow and it started to get a bit chilly around my feet. I’m so glad I’ve bought new boots so I can wear them next weekend when I’m planning on getting out there again. One thing one never shall do is to think that it will be easy to find the way back by just following ones own foot steps in the snow, especially now since the snow was quite wet. I have several times turned around just to see that there are no prints in the snow at all and sometimes when I do follow my own foot steps they just stop in the middle of nowhere.
Today I realised that the prints that I followed were much smaller than my foot prints (and I’m totally sure no one else were out there at the same time 🙂 ) and that they started close to a bunch of small spruces but there were no other prints anywhere around these spruces 🙂 Bogs are tricky places and should be treated with respect. Well I knew where I were so I had no problems getting back home and the dogs had fun all the time, I can just imagine how many exiting scents they could feel out there.
I’ve also done the laundry like I always do on Sundays so the rest of this day will be rather relaxed and I think I’ll turn of the tv and get up to my bed to read a book. The wind is howling outside and I doubt that we’ll take another walk today. I do hope the weather prediction for later next week are wrong, they showed that we would get down to -20C (-4F) on Friday morning. I just checked and now they show that we’ll have down to -11C (12,2F) instead, much better to be honest. But these prediction will change so many times before next Friday so who knows what it will be 🙂
Have a great day!
I had planned to walk out on the bog today but already before I’ve started to put on outside clothes the first hunters arrived. Slightly annoyed I then decided to walk to the little lake instead and off we went. It snowed all the time but it wasn’t as bad as yesterday thankfully. As soon as we turned in on the road to the lake I realised that hunters were on that side of the forest too.
Annoyed isn’t the word that described how I felt at that moment. I wanted to take a long walk and not just around the village so we went down a road I’ve only taken once before, when they dug down the water, sewer and internet pipes. It leads to the big road but I hoped that I somehow would be able to go out on the fields instead. It turns out that now have included that road into one of the big pastures for tha cattle. The cattle aren’t around during winter so out into the pastures we went.
I’ve never walked in those fields before but I figured that if we walked alongside (but from a long distance) with the big road we would end up in the field where the old barn is and the creek flows by. They still have electricity in the wires around the pastures, I don’t know why since there ar no cattle but that’s how it is. All snow and lots of grass made sure that not much could be felt if touching the wires 🙂 just a slight tickling so we could walk between the different pastures as we wished. We were out for almost two hours in the wind and snow so it was quite nice to get back home again.
I realised that it doesn’t work well to walk on snow-covered icy roads with rubber boot so today I finally ordered some proper winter boots. I should have done that long ago but the weather allowed me to use my summer hiking boots, not any more though. I ordered them from a business that mostly sell clothes, shoes, boots and other things to hunters, the quality is really good and the prices are thereafter. They were nasty expensive but I know they’ll last for several years so in the long run they’ll be really cheap. These are non-slip too so I won’t be needing crampons when they have arrived.
We walked towards the bog in the afternoon when the hunters had left but never walked out because it was a bit late and one doesn’t want to walk around there after dark for many reasons, one is that it is impossible to find the way home when the daylight is gone 🙂 I hope the hunters will stay away from this area tomorrow so we can get out there without risking our lives 🙂 I will bring at least one old-time camera too and then we can watch a snowy bog when spring finally has arrived 🙂 By then I actually might like the snow in the photos 🙂
The fire is burning and the cottage is warm and nice. The animals have all had their food and now it is time for me to have some too. I’ll definitely have hot cocoa with it.
Have a great day!
So I opened the door as soon as we woke up this morning to let the dogs outside and noticed that it was snowing a little, well I can’t say I was surprised even if they never mentioned anything about snow falling when I looked at the weather predictions on tv this morning. At least not until this afternoon. The next time I opened the door, when I was going to the doctor it wasn’t a little snow falling any longer, it was a lot.
I did bring two older cameras anyway because I didn’t think it would be that bad in the town but it was because now the wind had started to blow really hard too. By the time I left the doctor it was so bad that I decided that I just should buy what I needed and then go home again because it was slippery enough on my way there. I think it was the best decision I could take because it just kept on falling that white garbage from the sky and the wind just made everything worse.
We took a walk as soon as I came home and that was the last walk for today 🙂 I think we all like staying indoors where the fire in the stove keeps us warm and no wind can reach us. It still snows just as much even if the snow flakes are much smaller and the wind isn’t any nicer either to be honest. The heat from the stove is slowly spreading through the cottage and I ‘ve heard that they are plowing the road in the village. This is a day for hibernating.
So how did it go at the doctor You might wonder? Well I’m ok for continuing to paint that extremely toxic paint. All test results weren’t ready before I left but the doctor told me my lungs are great, my blood pressure is good and my cholesterol levels are very low. He did however look surprised for a second or so when he looked at what he had gotten so far ands I never like it when a doctor look surprised 🙂 🙂 🙂 I know he would have told me what it was if it was something bad but I still didn’t like that sign of surprise 🙂 He will send the finished results already today so I’ll know already next week how healthy I am 🙂
It is time to put more fire logs in the stove and after that I think I’ll take a nap 🙂
Have a great day!
The weather predictions vary a lot hour by hour about how much snow we’ll get this weekend, at first we would get loads of it but at the moment it looks like we’ll get 5 cm (2 inches). Still they keep warning us about how much snow we’ll get. They hadn’t predicted any snow for tonight but so far we’ve gotten at least an inch of it 🙂 I would love to be a weather man, I would never have to worry about getting it right, ever 🙂
Tomorrow I’ll have my medical examination in the morning and I’ll bring at least one old camera with me to Falköping. It might snow (depending on which weather site I’m looking at) and the sun will just have risen when the exan´mination is over so I might get some nice looking photographs. On the other hand the wind might rather strong so it might just be white blur too 🙂 I’ll also do my weekly shopping and I need fire logs, I haven’t a single one left here at home. I could go out to the wood shed and cut some logs and chop them too but it is cold outside so I rather have the radiators on a higher temperature tonight 🙂
Nothing much has happened otherwise, the dogs didn’t tear down the carpet that hangs over the entrance hole to the dog house today. I think it is harder to do when I have used screws instead of nails. I’m pretty sure however that they will try over and over again until they succeed 🙂
It is time to make myself something to eat. I’m not really hungry to be honest so perhaps I’ll just have some cocoa and perhaps some fruit.
Have a great day!
It was a tad cold when we went out for our morning walk today, -15,4C (4,3F) but since there was no wind what so ever it didn’t feel too bad. The world was covered in frost and that’s always very beautiful but cold days and nights like this should create rime, a much thicker frost which looks simply amazing when the sun shines on it. Perhaps it will come tomorrow when it is supposed to be just as cold, too bad I must work then.
We took the normal route down to the creek and after that we walked to the little creek just by the bog. I saw that the big creek had a blanket of ice so I thought that maybe it would be possible to walk on the bog today. So we passed the little bridge and went out on the bog towards the place I could see the morning sun reached. I wish You all could see how truly beautiful it is out there, especially on frosty days like this, a photo can show some but not how it really looks.
I really wasn’t dressed for walking on the bog so we went slowly homewards again. I think I would have thought it would be warm and nice in a refrigerator when we came home 🙂 It is so cold outside that anything above freezing point feels warm 🙂 Nothing that a big pot with hot tea couldn’t fix though. The wind, very weak, has returned so our second walk wasn’t as nice and even the dogs wanted to go home again.
So to the camera! I got a text message from my oldest brother a week or so ago and he wondered if I wanted our mormors (grandmother on our mother’s side) old camera! Our mormor was the center of the family or perhaps even the universe to be honest. I didn’t even know they had one 🙂 He had it in a closet and since I like cameras he wondered if I would like to have it and of course I wanted 🙂 It is a box camera called Gevabox, from the 50’s I think. It was for being such a cheap camera a bit advanced because it has three apertures. The shutter speed however can’t be changed and it is around 1/30th of a second.
I don’t know how people back in the days could get a non fuzzy photo with those slow shutter speeds but many did. I know I will use my tripod when using it otherwise I’ll never be able to see what it is I have photographed 🙂 I also need to buy a film with a very low ISO so I won’t be able to try it for some time. It actually use the same kind of film that my Hasselblad camera does but this one gives bigger negatives so I’ll be able to get only eight photographs from each film roll.
