I rarely get nostalgic :-)
I rarely go back the memory lane or get nostalgic, the past is the past and that’s it but yesterday it hit me right in the face. They played a song on the radio and I went back at least twenty years back in time. I lived in the city just beside a heavily trafficked road but every summer when the weather was sunny and hot the traffic died out pretty early in the evening. Those evenings I liked to sit on my balcony in the sunshine looking towards the ocean.
There was a tiny gap in the low hills that made it possible for me to see sailing boats passing by and it was as quiet that it could be in a big city. People either had their dinner or were still by the beach. In summer we have daylight almost all day so no one was ever in a rush home, especially if on had found a good spot. There was a high-rise building on the other side of the road and almost all doors to the balconies were open since they were in the shadows.
So I sat there and waited, waited for the one who obviously loved this song I heard every single sunny and warm evening over and over again (they must have put the player on repeat), every summer. They must have had speakers on the balcony because I could hear every word very well. I can’t say I like the song and never have but the first hot summer evening after moving to the countryside I truly missed it 🙂 This song and the singers had become a part of my life whether I liked it or not and every time they play it on the radio (not especially often to be honest) I just start smiling and sing along. The YouTube video below will play the song for You. I do miss Renée and Renato 🙂
Have a great day!
