So far it has been rather nice.

DSC_0020 (19)

It is supposed to be raining here right now, it doesn’t. I’m not complaining, just saying that they haven’t been quite accurate in their predictions πŸ™‚ They also predicted, when I checked this morning, that we wouldn’t get any sunshine today, we did πŸ™‚ It is a low pressure that gives them problems with their predictions, they just can’t figure out how fast it will move eastwards.

I thought this was what we would see from the sun today but it broke through quite a lot.

If You look almost in the middle of this photo You can see another church, the one in Γ–stra Tunhem.

The day has so far been rather nice with slightly higher temperatures than predicted too. A strong wind does its best to destroy the feeling of spring but it has failed miserable, the wind is nicely warm but so strong that my cottage is trembling and squeaking when the gusts hit. That doesn’t happen often, normally the wind can’t reach my home. Still, it is rather nice outside and we’ve been on walks two times already and after this we’ll go out again, if the rain actually doesn’t come.

I stood outside when I repotted my pelargoniums (some of You english speaking call them geraniums), it turned out to be rather practical since all the dry and loose soil flew away with the wind πŸ™‚ I also repotted an old Flowering Maple (Abutilon and we actually have the same name on it in Swedish). It didn’t look too happy and I hope it survives. I have taken cuttings from it before and took a few today as well. Still it would be nice if the old one survived because they can actually become rather big after a few years.

I stopped before we reached the place. It is a big area.

I have a few more plants to repot, like my passionfruit vines but I’ll wait with those until the wind doesn’t blow that hard. No big plans for the rest of the weekend though, I rarely have any big plans at all to be honest πŸ™‚ If the rain starts to fall I will watch one of the movies I bought yesterday, if it doesn’t I think we’ll be outside for most of the day, well I will take a short nap though after the walk we’ll take after writing this.

Tonight is Walpurgis night and it is celebrated in big parts of this country with huge bonfires and choirs will sing songs about spring too. I doubt that anyone can have a bonfire today because of the wind and any choir being outside in the wind will blow away πŸ™‚ It is a rather big day here even though no one actually knows why we celebrate it πŸ™‚

Walpurgis was if I remember right an English princess who became a nun in Germany and fought against witches which all were evil of course with great success. To be honest, the witches I know wouldn’t hurt a fly but lots of christians who I know would gladly kill anyone in the name of the religion. That was unfortunately the way christianity was spread not by free choise but by violence and death.

It is time to take that walk just in case rain actually would start falling.

The weather isn’t boring anyway.

It is impossible to say that we have boring weather today, five minutes sunshine five minutes rain and lots of strong gusts in between. The sun shone when I came home so we went out for a walk as soon as we could. I could see how showers were closing in so we didn’t walk as far as I had planned.

I wish I could say that the sky was dark blue but it is instead led blue rain clouds.

We almost made it all the way home when the rain started and with it the strong wind. It si hard to say that the rain fell since it flew sideways and I don’t think a drop hit the ground πŸ™‚ at least not until the wind stopped. As usual we took cover in theΒ beekeepers stable, it has saved us many times before.

The sun started to shine again as soon as we came home so I managed to walk around to see what is in bloom now and I noticed that the grass still is very short so if it still is wet on Sunday it doesn’t matter, the mowing can wait another week.

At least it is Friday tomorrow.

I have no idea how this photo became like this. I have checked the Balda Jubilette for light leaks butthere are none. I think it might have been the shutter that didn't close properly. No matter why, I like it a lot!

I’m so glad it is Friday tomorrow, I was at the neighbor factory again today and even if it went much better than last time I still can’t pretend it worked brilliant πŸ™‚ It started with me bringing the wrong size on the hoses I was going to change today but thankfully the old ones didn’t break.

I have two different kinds of paint, one bright almost white and one dark almost black. The white one behaved as it should and I started to think I was going back to my ordinary work plcae rather early. The dark one however didn’t behave as it should. I have no idea why but I had to use a third more paint to finish the job and even if I had lots of thinner in it it still didn’t flow as it should.

So instead of getting back early I arrived at my work place half an hour before I was going home πŸ™‚ Ok, I have to admit that the day passed very fast, I have no clock there and it is just too much work to try to reach my phone since I can’t open up the overall in thge paint box, the paint is just too toxic and even if the fumes only hit the skin it can make me allergic.

We wentto the bog after work and was lucky to come home just before the rain started to fall. It was just a sort of heavy drizzle so it wouldn’t have been so bad being out walking when it arrived and it is much better than the snow that has been falling lately πŸ™‚ I have no idea how the weather willbe this weekend, they have changed it so many times that it can be anything really πŸ™‚

It is time to get something to eat and then some tv.

Have a great day!

It is a new day tomorrow.

Today all photos comes from two old cameras. The first ones comes from an Agfa Ambi silette. A rangefinder camera often called the poor mans Leica. Leica cameras are amongst the few cameras that actually are pretty expensive no matter how old they are. Not so with Agfa cameras but this one is really good. I only have one lens and it is a 135mm telephoto lens.

I only have one lens and it is a 135mm telephoto lens.

It hailed heavilyΒ yesterday evening and since temperatures were low all night lots of it covered my car when I woke up this morning. Thankfully the sun showed for a minute or two so it was easy to get rid of before going to work. I think I had driven for five minutes when the snow started to fall. Even I had to admit to myself that it looked pretty but I was a bit worried since I now have summer tires on my car.

A19332_000A

A19332_002A

A19332_003A

The pretty feeling soon vanished because the longer I drove the more it snowed πŸ™‚ At one point it was so hard to see the road that I thought it would be best to stop and slowly drive home again. The road was however so warm that the snow melted as soon as it hit so I continued to work. Just as I arrived the snow stopped falling and I could see some sunshine again. It lasted until I was about to go to the neighbor factory to work, just before I was leaving the snow started to fall again. So even if it is just 200 meters (much the same in yards) to the other place I took the car πŸ™‚

A19332_005A

Nothing worked as it should today πŸ™‚ It took quite some time until I even could start working. Something must have been wrong with the paint because it was looking like cement and nothing I did made it better πŸ™‚ I had painted for a while when it suddenly felt like something was tapping me on my head, strange since I was the only one there. So I turned around and saw that the hose from the paint pump had broken and it sprayed me all over my back πŸ™‚ I wear an overall that won’t let any paint through so that didn’t bother me that much.

010

013

026Β

The worst thing was that everything was covered in paint and my gloves got slippery and it took almost half an hour to fix the hose. I hadn’t worked for long when something else hit me in the back of my head, this time it was the hose for the compressed air that broke πŸ™‚ It just took twenty minutes to fix that hose so I could start working again. I don’t have any clock in there so every now and again I must check the clock in my mobile phone. Guess what? The zipper broke on my overall!!!

The rest of the photos comes from an old camera called Balda Jubilette. It is a viewfinder camera so one has to estimate the distance to the thing one wants to photograph. I am surprised over how good this camera was. It does seem that I have a light leak in it somewhere that I must find.

A19336_002

I can’t even be in the paintbox if that is broken and it would take too long to go back to my ordinary workplace to get a new overall so I had to go outside, now without any snow falling but with a strong wind instead. I did manage to fix it, at least so I could continue to work. I’ll bring another one next time I’ll go there, on Thursday they say. It took me twice as long to paint what I should today and I’m so glad that the day is over. From now on it only can be better.

I woke up to a world covered in snow and I didn’t like it. The night had started rather cold and it had dropped down to -7C (19,4F) before the clouds came and covered the sky. It was less cold when I woke up but the sight of all that snow made me cold inside instead.

I could see that the sun was trying to break through though so out we went and I did have hope that the sun would show while we were out walking. How wrong I was, even though the clouds did get thinner no sun showed. Instead the snow started to fall again but since there was almost no wind it actually didn’t feel that bad anyway. None of the weather sites had predicted anything else than rain so snow was not even something I have remotely considered to see. It all melts down pretty fast though so even if we just had a shower of pebble snow (looks like hail but is soft and very light) it can’t be seen on the ground any longer. I’m not sure I’m glad I changed to summer tires even if the law says we must but this is April and weather can change in a minute.

I did mow the lawn yesterday and even though I knew the grass had been growing quite a lot I still got surprised over how much grass the collector collected. I had to empty it several times, perhaps a good thing since it most likely insulated the compost against the really cold night. I normally just let the mowed grass stay on the lawn, it gives back the nutrition to the poor sandy soil I have.

The rain they had predicted for today is now moved to Sunday, that means I’ll have to mow the lawn no matter if I want to or not πŸ™‚ If I wait another week the grass will be so long that my mower won’t manage to cut it and who knows if we’ll have sunshine next week, they are wobbly enough to predict the weather just a day ahead so just imagine how bad it is when they try to do it for a week πŸ™‚

I had problems falling asleep and I woke up just after 4 am too but I did feel relaxed so it was a good sleep the little I got. I can’t say we have daylight already at that time now but it sure shows that the day is close. Today the sun went up at 5:32 am and soon we won’t have much night at all here and further north they won’t have it at all since the sun will stay above the horizon 24/7.

A three and a half hour walk.

A nice start to the morning.

A nice start to the morning.

So up we went almost as early as usual even if we were going to the garage to get new brake pads on my car, they have the same working hours as I do and I wanted to get there as early as possible even if it could take some time before they would get to my car (which it actually didn’t, they fixed my car right away). I looked out the windows and saw to my extremely big surprise that the weather predictions actually were right!!!

I have no idea what this is and there were no signs to tell me either. I'll see if I can find anything on the net about it.

The sun was shining and there were only a few thin clouds up in the sky. I have to admit that it was a bit chilly when we went away but since I was planning on walking for several hours I really didn’t mind that much. The garage opened just as we arrived so I just gave the owner my keys and went away. I had decided to follow the old pilgrimage road eastwards. I have no idea why they made this a pilgrimage road back inΒ theΒ days but it seems to have important churches and monasteries as some kind of connection points.

I love how the moss sort of glows in the early morning light and when being photographed towards the light. Photographed with the light from behind it just looks anemic πŸ™‚

I knew I wouldn’t be able to reach the church (Kungslena church) which the pilgrimage lead to, it is 22 km (13,7 mile) away and even if it will go fast getting there it will not be the same back since it is all uphill back to Gudhem again πŸ™‚ and the dogs must be able to stop every now and again to sniff on all the messages other animals have left. It would have been interesting to get to the church though. The church standing there now was built some time in the 13th century but they are pretty sure there was a church made of wood standing there long ago. The odd thing with this church is that it has three steeples and it is very beautiful.

I'm not sure if it was three houses belonging to the same farm or three different homes really close to each other. That was usually the case back in the days. The homes were close to each other in the middle of the fields. This one had hen, ducks, sheep and goats and I saw a horse too.

I think we had walked half way there when we turned back again. To be honest I thought it would take twice the time to get back since it was all uphill but it didn’t, so we passed the garage and went the other direction too. My first thought had been to walk that way instead but there are signs at Forentorp Γ€ngar (I’ve shown You photos from there before, the old mill to the monastery stands there) that they have cows and calves on the fields where the pilgrimage goes through so no dogs allowed. Cows with calves have a tendency to want to kill dogs and their owners and since I was getting new brake pads I thought dying would just be a waste of money πŸ™‚

The walk after work was rather pleasant though since we were walking out of winds reach. We checked out how the “new” road was and the photos does lie some, it looks much better than it is. Ok, it isn’t meant for walking on even if that will be the main reason anyone will be there and I guess the timber lorry drivers really don’t care if it is a bit uneven. They had already placed some deforestation machines up there so it’ll be interesting to see how much that will be left.

Most of the road is still like it was before though, it is very close to the nature reserve so I’m not sure about how much the are allowed to change the environment there. The water level in the creek was oddly low and I wonder if the beavers have made a new dam further up-stream? I couldn’t go especially far because the ground was very muddy. I will however as soon as the ground has dried up some.

We also had a nasty wind all day, not that I noticed it much here before I went to work but I did notice it very well on the road to work πŸ™‚ It had also calmed down pretty much when I came home so the walk was really pleasant. Sune took a bath like always in the clean creek and Nova rolled around in the dry grass.

So I was sitting here in the kitchen looking at Facebook when suddenly the cottage got hit hard by a strong wind, the entire cottage trembled and suddenly the ky got all black and rain started to fall. The wind hit several times and I started to wonder if we could have a tromb nearby. A tromb is a small tornado which can damage houses if one is unlucky.

Β  The wind was so hard towards the door that I had problems opening it but I couldn’t see any tromb, doesn’t mean we didn’t have one though. Now it has stopped to blow but the sky is just as black and it rains some.

I wouldn’t mind that at all, especially if it is shining on Friday. That’s the day they’ll change the brake pads on my car. It is no use in borrowing a car from the garage because I would come at least an hour late and I would have to go an hour early and since I only work half a day on Fridays it would be more or less like coming to work just to say hi and then leave again πŸ™‚ They only work half day on Fridays in the garage too.

Today has been anything like spring like, it has been more like an autumn day. Cold, a bit windy and rainy. We have been lucky when going out though, only drizzle as worst. Still, I’m thinking of going to the wood shed to get some logs and start a fire in the stove, mostly to get rid of the dampness that has eaten its way in to the cottage.

It is actually quite nice outside even if the sun isn’t shining and the occasional rain drop falls down. It is slightly above 10C (50F) at the moment and the little wind that’s there is just nice. I wouldn’t mind if the cracks in the clouds were a bit bigger but we can’t get it all, can we πŸ™‚

I have a few plants in my cool cellar and I’m thinking of bringing them up so I can turn off the greenhouse lamp down there, it eats energy but is great for the plants. The problem is that if we get a setback how well can I cover them, they already have leafs. I’ll place them on the patio close to the cottage wall and that usually keep the frost away. The sunshine however, if we get some that is, is the biggest problem. Just like us plants need to adjust to it so they don’t get burned.

Today has been much less eventful than yesterday, thankfully πŸ™‚ I have done a lot anyway though. I left work an hour early because today is the last day we’re allowed to have winter tires on our cars, the studded ones that is. I went to the garage earlier this week so they could check the summer tires for me. One was about to split so a new tire had to be bought and two other leaked a bit too much air at the end of last summer.

They could of course not find any air leak, which doesn’t surprise me because those things never show when one is at the garage, they just start leaking like crazy as soon as one has left πŸ™‚ So we placed an inner tube in one of them and now we’ll see if the other one keeps on leaking. I have to go there anyway rather soon because it turns out that that the brake pads on the front wheels are no more. That garage is a very nice place in that way that all costumers who are there always talk with each other and many people just check in to have a chat with the owner and anyone in there πŸ™‚

Yes we did take a walk but it wasn’t quiet at all, they are working with the road, not outside our cottages where they should have started but way in to the forest. More forest will be cut down so they need to make the roads so good that heavy timber lorries can drive there. It is the road that follows the creek upstream. I don’t like it at the moment but since all grass will be gone the risk of getting ticks will be much smaller so we will be able to walk there even during summer. Nothing bad that doesn’t bring something good with it. They’ll fix the road outside our cottages as soon as they have finished the work in the forest.

I got rather surprised when I found a letter from my telephone company where they thank me for chosing them when I wanted a business subscriptions for my business. I don’t own a business so I called them immediately and stopped it. It turns out that it isn’t my telephone company that has done this but a business partner. I don’t think this has anything to do with identity theft since the letter came home to me, so I easily could call and stop it.

Yesterday I did what I should have done already last spring, I dug up the wild gooseberry bush I had in my vegetable patch. The wild one behaves very different from the ones we buy I’m afraid, something I didn’t know until I dug up one πŸ™‚ All branches which touches the ground roots and a new busy starts growing up, Also it sends out shoots from its roots so suddenly it grows gooseberry bushes everywhere. Did I mention it is actually more thorny too πŸ™‚ So after a while it is utterly impossible to clean out weeds which grows beneath the branches.

The berries however is just delicious and unfortunately much smaller than on the bushes we buy. I could have taken all that if it wasn’t for the fact that it growed in the vegetable patch, there were simply no room for any vegetables πŸ™‚ Now I’ve placed it on my toss away mound, that’s the place where I toss everything already dead, pruning’s, dog poop and grass tufts if I make a new flower bed. It will most likely thrive there, spreading happily out into the cow pasture just outside the fence πŸ™‚ I already have more raspberry bushes there than in my own garden πŸ™‚

So now I’ve used a pitchfork and turned all the soil in the vegetable patch and also planted several flowering quince in my garden and one cherry tree. Well tree is a bit too much to call it πŸ™‚ it is still tiny but it managed to survive in a pot outside during winter so I thought I might as well give it a place already now in early spring. I have one more small cherry tree but it still stands in my cool cellar and I don’t trust the weather to be warm enough for it since it already has lots of small leafs.

I still haven’t figured out if I should try to make the vegetable patch I have bigger or if I should make another one elsewhere in the garden. I still have plenty of time to figure out that though, normally I wouldn’t plant any vegetables outside until the first week in June, since that is when we usually get our last night with frost. Nowadays however one never knows, perhaps this one was the last we had? I must also buy a plum tree this year, I’ve promised my neighbor that I should buy one so that they’ll get a better chance to get fruit on theirs. Just because they say a plum tree is self-fertile it doesn’t mean more than that it might give one or two plums, they haven’t lied but normally that’s what one get. It is always best to have another tree of the right kind nearby and then both trees might give a lot.

The river I pass on my way to work was so big today that I’m glad I don’t live downstream behind any of the old mill dams, I doubt they can hold back all this water and the closer it gets to our biggest lake VΓ€nern,m the flatter the landscape becomes. If it floods there the Vastgota plains will be the Vastgota lake instead πŸ™‚ In some places the river look like the really big ones we have further north with lots of rapids.

There was no place to stop and photograph that but I did stop further upstream and took a few photos, with one of my old cameras. I’ll show You those photos some day but I don’t know when because I’m still waiting for the ones I’ve already sent away.

Can You see it?

Can You see it?

We walked to the bog this afternoon and when we came out there I did see that something wasn’t like it usually is but it took a while until I saw what it was. At first I thought it was three big trees that had fallen and that I saw their root systems but then they started to move! Without knowing it we had passed a moose cow and her two calves from last year πŸ™‚ Well the dogs did notice something but I just thought they had smelled squirrels πŸ™‚

I picked the right days.

I was lucky to get the best of days when I had my vacation, it has rained heavily ever since and the river I pass on my way to and from work is so full of water now that it looks more like a lake in some places. I placed one of my water barrels where it will stand until autumn and it was totally empty when I did, today it is full, it takes around 200 liters (53 Β gallons).

It looks however as if the weather will be better during the weekend but the forecasts change so fast now that it is hard to keep up πŸ™‚ It has been rather uneventful here these two days. Nothing much has happened at work and nothing much here at home either. I was hoping that my film rolls had been developed till today but it looks like I’ll have to wait some time more.

Back to work tomorrow.

DSC_0024 (5)

So far the day has been a bit chillier than yesterday, we even had some thin fog for a while but now the sun seems to break through the clouds and it feels warmer as soon as it does. We had a light rainfall during the night so everything smelled so nice this morning and it did help my seeds to get a good start. I know we’ll have setbacks but as long as they aren’t too cold the seeds will do fine, after all it is Scandinavian wildflowers so they should manage the climate.

I passed the lake when I drove to town this morning, I think there were only 50 or so caravans left so I guess lots of cranes have moved north now. There were still around 15 600 cranes left by the lake but many of the ones with caravans follow specific cranes all the way to their nesting places in Norway. I wonder if they can follow them by GPS? After all, how easy can it be so see which cranes is which otherwise πŸ™‚

I had to brighten this one up a lot. Taking photos of a tiny squirrel towards the light isn't easy :-)

My neighbor from the farm up the slope asked me if I had seen our new neighbors. I was a bit confused until he told me that every day a bunch of cranes were walking not far from our homes, I can actually see them from mt home πŸ™‚ To be honest, I haven’t even looked around here, I thought it was a bit too noisy with tractors driving around spreading manure now. I’ll look out later today to see if they are there or if they only are here in the morning.

Tomorrow I’ll work like normal again. I have had two rather wonderful days and I wish I could have taken the entire week. Well I could have but I’ll be needing five days around christmastime, christmas is mostly over a weekend this year so it’s best to have some days vacation left so I at least get one week off.Β

It has been a wonderful day here. Warm with an enough strong wind and the sun wasn’t just a disk one could see through the clouds, it actually showed itself parts of the day. It was even too warm to wear a very worn down fleece jacket when we were out walking. I had planned to go to town to the super market but it was just a too good day to waste on a super market visit. Tomorrow I must go though no matter how great the day might be.

The cranes didn't seem to be especially bothered by us coming but they made sure the distance between us was exactly the same all the time.

The predictions have varied a lot hour by hour but at the moment the big Swedish one says it will be much like today and unfortunately the big Norwegian one which usually is right says cloudy with possible some rain, even if it will be small amounts falling. I did sow annuals outside today so the little rain that eventually might fall will do good for them but I’d rather not have any rain at all, we have plenty of water as it is anyway.

There is one kind of seeds I always fail with when sowing them and that’s peonies. I have never been able to get a single plant but like a fool I keep on sowing them. It takes two years until one can see something above the soil, after the first winter outside it only grow roots and it is important to never let the soil dry out. So guess if I got surprised today when I found two small seedlings πŸ™‚ Now it is important to leave them alone another year, just make sure they get what they need like water and fertilizer. They are so sensitive that if one tries to move them to another pot they might die. Later on in their life they can take anything though.

The flies have woken up too now, at the moment it’s the kind that really doesn’t care about me but during the entire time I was out weeding two flower beds they insisted on resting on my head. I hate when they do that and especially now when I have so short hair and feel them as soon as they land. So I have already started to hate them and that’s not a good sign, after all they have just started to fly πŸ™‚ Tomorrow, if the weather permits, I’ll wear a cap when weeding some other flower beds. I have very few seeds to sow this year, I only have two more bags to sow and they need warmth to germinate but I do have some small bushes to plant this spring. Mostly Chinese Flowering Quince but also a few Katsura’s and something that I at the moment have no idea what it is πŸ™‚ It might be some kind of cherry, perhaps πŸ™‚

We’ve had much the same weather today as we had yesterday but the clouds were slightly thicker so the bright disk, the one we call the sun was a bit weaker. I think the wind was even weaker than yesterday, the wind power plants didn’t move much at all and most of them didn’t move at all. Almost 15C (59F) and that’s not bad this early in April.

We’ve been away almost all day, my dogs and I but I don’t think much happened here in the village during our absence, nothing much ever happens here to be honest. The only exception is when a villager blew up his garage unintentionally two years ago πŸ™‚ The garage was around a mile away and I stood in the shower on the opposite side of my cottage when I suddenly were tossed towards the wall πŸ™‚ He also had fireworks in that garage and they blew off every now and again all day long πŸ™‚

You might wonder if I brought a camera with me today and of course I did, I even brought two with me but both are the old kind so You’ll have to wait until the films are developed. I have by the way four more films that I mailed early this week and I think all four were B&W films. I do prefer color film but it is fun to try B&W too every now and again.

Normally I would sit here and think that the weekend is just too short and we shouldn’t have to work more than four days a week but today I don’t care, I had two days of vacation I didn’t use last year so I’ll take them tomorrow and on Tuesday. I could have saved them if I wanted to but as I said at work, I don’t know when I might hit a moose on my way to work and get hit in the head by its hooves and die and I really don’t like to have vacation days that IΒ haven’t spent left when I die πŸ™‚ The new vacation year started two days ago so I still have 25 days to spend this year πŸ™‚
