Nothing much ever happens here, thankfully.

We’ve had much the same weather today as we had yesterday but the clouds were slightly thicker so the bright disk, the one we call the sun was a bit weaker. I think the wind was even weaker than yesterday, the wind power plants didn’t move much at all and most of them didn’t move at all. Almost 15C (59F) and that’s not bad this early in April.

I wonder if they have spray painted that lion, I can’t remember it being so bright before. No one lives in that house now days and it is quickly falling apart.

We’ve been away almost all day, my dogs and I but I don’t think much happened here in the village during our absence, nothing much ever happens here to be honest. The only exception is when a villager blew up his garage unintentionally two years ago 🙂 The garage was around a mile away and I stood in the shower on the opposite side of my cottage when I suddenly were tossed towards the wall 🙂 He also had fireworks in that garage and they blew off every now and again all day long 🙂

You might wonder if I brought a camera with me today and of course I did, I even brought two with me but both are the old kind so You’ll have to wait until the films are developed. I have by the way four more films that I mailed early this week and I think all four were B&W films. I do prefer color film but it is fun to try B&W too every now and again.

Normally I would sit here and think that the weekend is just too short and we shouldn’t have to work more than four days a week but today I don’t care, I had two days of vacation I didn’t use last year so I’ll take them tomorrow and on Tuesday. I could have saved them if I wanted to but as I said at work, I don’t know when I might hit a moose on my way to work and get hit in the head by its hooves and die and I really don’t like to have vacation days that I haven’t spent left when I die 🙂 The new vacation year started two days ago so I still have 25 days to spend this year 🙂

    • Hi Laurie!

Yes blue is a must in a garden 🙂

Yes it was a rather big explosion 🙂 The odd thing is that all windows on the two houses just beside still were unharmed?! My neighbor was by the lake and saw how a fire pillar rose up around 100 meters up in the air 🙂 No one was injured though and they managed to get all their cows away to a safe distance too. I guess this is the thing we’ll be talking about the next twenty years or so 🙂

I think that saved vacation days would be the thing hurting most if I died 🙂

      Have a great day!

  2. A lot happens where I live and also across the river where I work.
Some good things but also a lot of shooting and car chases.
Not in my neighborhood though. I’m thankful for that.

Too bad you couldn’t take apart that greenhouse and lug it home.
I love seeing the horses and I’m jealous of your blooming flowers.
It hit 70 degrees yesterday but the winds were 50 miles an hour so I stayed inside.
Today is was still windy but not as bad but of course it wasn’t was warm but I moved some Hostas down to my hill where there aren’t any snakes.
Actually I bought some muck boots on sale for $7 and felt quite safe.
But they are just plastic things that gave me blisters and made my feet swell so I guess that’s why they were so cheap.
But at least they made me feel safe from nonexistent snakes.

    How MANY days?!?!?!? of vacation.
Last Saturday marked 14 years of me working at the clinic and I still only get 40 HOURS of vacation and 24 HOURS of sick time a year.
    You are so lucky.
and like you, I would never not use up my vacation time! but obviously it’s easier for me to do. 😉
    ok, gotta go…
I’m gonna try to stay on top of my blog reading AND my commenting!
    😀

    • Hi Cindi!

This is a very calm spot in the world but every now and again something happens that we’ll talk about for years 🙂

Na, I wouldn’t want that green house. I do hope I can get my thumbs out of my a.. this year and at least start building the greenhouse I want. I have almost everything so it is just to start. Those thumbs of mine seems to stick hard though 🙂

It is actually rather nice here even if it had been even nicer if the sun could have shined stronger through those clouds. No wind and rather warm so I really can’t complain. It is still early though, we can get a setback any day but I do hope we won’t 🙂

I guess muck boots are something like rubber boots? I almost always get blisters when I get new shoes/ boots so I always tape my feet where I know the blisters will show up. It really helps! but use paper tape and not anything plastic. The easiest way to scare away snakes is to stomp a lot on the ground while walkking. A snake is deaf but it feels wibrations really well and heavy stomping make them go away.

As soon as You’ve worked one year in a company You’ll automatically get 25 paid days of vacation here in Sweden. France is even better because they get 30 days paid. There’s a law in the EU that gives anyone at least 20 days of paid vacation though. I’ve always wondered why the US have so strange vacation rules. You do have more holidays than us though but still only 40 hours! and 24 hours of sick leave?? We can stay at home for a week (one of those days are unpaid though but four are paid) without having a a medical certificate from a doctor. If one is sick like that six times in a year the employer must help You to find out why and then make a plan to get You back in work if it is work related problems.

Yes why should I save any vacation days, it would hurt me those last seconds alive if I knew I had vacation days left 🙂

      Have a great day!

  3. Caryn

    Hi Christer,
Either they spray painted the lion and the dog or they cleaned them up. I remember the lion as being sort of stone dust grey. But if nobody lives there, who would do that? I want to adopt the two of them and put them in my garden.

Before I was made an instructor for my work and had to travel to other states, I used every bit of my vacation for the same reason you do. After I became an instructor I had to travel for work and that was like a vacation, really. Yes, I had to work during the day but it was not my normal work and much more interesting so the day went like lightening. After work there was a whole new city to explore. Somehow I managed to accrue the maximum number of vacation hours I could roll over to the next year. I think it was 208 hours. That meant every hour of the 5 1/2 weeks of vacation I earned the following year was Use or Lose. They had to let me use it pretty much when I asked or have a damn good reason why. Such a lovely feeling. 🙂

There’s a lot going on in your yard. What is that bird?

It snowed this morning. Then it stopped. The wind came up very strong and started blowing lumps of wet snow all over the place. It was great fun taking the dogs out and dodging incoming snow mini balls. 🙂 Then the sun came out and made everything lovely. It was all white and blue and bits of green lawn. The snow melted off of almost everything.
    More snow tomorrow, they say.

    Enjoy the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

I know the owner still comes out there every now and again. They should have sold it while it still was in a rather good shape, as it is now it can’t be sold. Too much to do with it and to build a new house there would cost a fortune. Houses out here are cheap because of the distance to the rest of the world 🙂

That sounds like a job I would have liked but I’m pretty sure I would have spent all my vacation days anyway 🙂 It must have felt nice knowing that they really couldn’t say no when You wanted to take a few days off though 🙂 🙂 🙂

I think that bird is a Song thrush (Turdus philomelos). We have a few looking almost identical but the size on this one seems to be the right for the song thrush. I was a bit surprised to see all the flowers in bloom now 🙂 Lots have survived in the pots I forgot to bring in this winter, so now I have no idea where to plant everything 🙂

It did look beautiful in that photo, in a sad way since I know it is spring 🙂 I do hope You won’t get much snow today!

      Have a great day!

    • Hi Dianna!

I hope You had really nice weather during Your vacation!

I rarely comment when I try to catch up on blogs I haven’t visited for a long while, that would take forever 🙂

      Have a great day!

  5. There is nothing wrong with living in a place where not much goes on. It was sort of that way for the 12 years that we lived in a small town in VA, yet we always found things to do! It is a good idea to use all the vacation time you get, especially since you will be getting more this year. Of course, being retired for so many years now, I don’t even remember how much vacation time I got at various jobs, but know it was not 25 days a year, but based on how long one worked at a place.
The ourple blooms in your garden were my favorites as it is my favorite color and the crocuses are beautiful to see.

    • Hi Beatrice!

I had enough with action when I lived in the big city so I’m very glad it is as calm as it is here 🙂

We have the same rules no matter where one works and when it comes to vacation I would have loved tonwork in France to get that extra week they have and they do have more holidays than us too 🙂

I prefer the striped crocus but all crocus are beautiful 🙂 The Lungwort is more or less a weed here but I like them because they flower so early, at least the beekeepoers bees have something to eat this early 🙂

      Have a great day!

      Christer.
