I’m sort of lazy when it comes to shaving so long periods I have the right style with a hipster beard πŸ™‚ Yesterday I thought it was time to get rid of it and brought out my trimmer. I stood in the bathroom and trimmed away when the machine, wich has a cord, started to hack. I didn’t think much of it but tried to keep the cord in a way that it at least would work until I was finished.

I never remember what this flower is called. I have it in my garden and it is a native plant.

I never remember what this flower is called. I have it in my garden and it is a native plant.

Suddenly big flames came out of the machine! I shouted something like AAAAAH in a high-pitched voice and was about to toss it in the sink but realised that would be a rather stupid idea since I had a newspaper there to collect all the hair, that would have been a smelly start of a nice fire πŸ™‚ So I dropped it on the floor, still burning and tore out the cord from the jacket but the bl…. thing kept on burning πŸ™‚ So I ran out to the kitchen and tossed it in that sink instead. I tossed it in a clay pot and placed it in the garden during the night πŸ™‚ I looked slightly derange in my face, some places had still lots of beard left and it was a bit tricky to shave it all off πŸ™‚

My printer hate me too! We’re going to have our annual road association meeting so I was going to print out the calling to the meeting and also last years protocol. I had bought black ink this year since it refused to print out anything no matter what color I chose as long as there was no black print. So I was printing out the calling when I noticed that the text was clear blue! I know I had adjusted the printer for black text but still there it was in clear blue πŸ™‚ As soon as all calling notes had been printed the printer told me I had no blue ink left. No problems I thought, I’ll get the protocol in black so I don’t need blue.

Of course I needed blue, it refused to print anything in black as long as I didn’t have blue print! So away to FalkΓΆping I went and bought blue print and when I came back it didn’t fit! I had of course tossed away the old cassette, which by the way had just enough blue ink in it to color my both hand very blue. So back to the store minutes before they closed and I just bought a cassette which I thought looked the same and to my big surprise it was the right kind. So finally I could print the protocol. Guess if I got surprised that every letter it printed just had the edges in black, inside it was totally white?!

It didn’t matter what I did it continued in the same way. So then I thought, I have a lot of blue ink now so if I adjust the printer to make the letters very dark blue instead, that should make the text look almost black. I now have the protocol and the text is purple and I have given up πŸ™‚ I truly hate printers but I need one and every year it is the same battle and the printer always win πŸ™‚

It is time for something to eat and after that I’ll see if there’s anything interesting on tv. I now have a channel for free again (I don’t know for how long though, it can be gone tomorrow or in two weeks), it shows all my favorite comedies but there’s one problem, there’s no sound πŸ™‚ I can however say that since we always have subtitles in shows made in another language it is just as fun anyway πŸ™‚

Back to cool mornings again :-)

We’re back at more normal summer temperatures here now, around 22C (71,6F) during the day and around 10C (50F) during the night but this night was a bit more chilly. I looked at the thermometer just before we went out for our morning walk and it told me it was 3,5C (38,3F) outside in the sunshine πŸ™‚

It was actually really, really nice but I did wear a fleece jacket. The sun warms us up but the shadows are a tad cold for quite some time. We still have very low humidity so no morning dew today either. That however means the ticks won’t be around either so even if I miss the dew I really like the tick situation πŸ™‚ Not many other animals around either to be honest but the ravens had a huge fight with something, they were so noisy that they could be heard all over the village.

I’ve done something with my right thumb, I don’t know what but it hurts like h… every time I move it πŸ™‚ I haven’t hit it in anything and I have no smaller or bigger wounds in it either. I noticed the pain yesterday evening and thought that it would be gone this morning but it got worse instead. I can move it and it gets a bit better if I continue to move it every now and again but as soon as I keep it still for a few minutes it’s the same again. This is not a week to not being able to work because I’m the only painter who will be there all week. Lots of school graduations next week too. Thankfully I’m ambidexter so as long as nothing happens to my left hand things would work πŸ™‚

I must go to the super market today. I really need mosquito nets and I’ll see if I can find a small fan too, just in case the heat returns. We all fear that this was the summer we’ll get this year. Last year started out much the same (less hot though) and as soon as our vacations started the cold and rainy weather came to stay. Looking at it statistically if May is hot June will be cool and July hot. Almost always a lot of rain though because the summer months here are also the ones with most water falling from the sky. Climate change however has changed things so now the weather turns anywhere all the time πŸ™‚

It is time to get some breakfast and as soon as I hear that my neighbors are awake I’ll drive to the super market. I don’t want to goo to early just in case the dogs would start to bark in the dog yard when I drive away. They say they rarely do but if they do it will of course be on a Sunday morning πŸ™‚ Normally I would be really annoyed if I had to go to a supermarket on a Sunday but we’re having a holiday tomorrow, our national day, so it doesn’t feel like I’m destroying the last day of the weekend.

We don’t have any sunshine but it is fairly warm and low humidity makes it feel even better. The weak wind just makes it more pleasant so I really can’t complain today. Well it would be about the flies then but to be honest, they aren’t as many as I feared. I guess I can thank the draught we’ve had for a while now. Living in a boggy area means the ground never really dries out too bad.

I was thinking that I would start chopping down my lilac hedge as soon as the flowers starts to wither but I can’t do that. I don’t know how many birds nests there are in there but one is enough for me to wait until Autumn comes and all small birds have flown away. One nest is so close to my gate that every time I walk out of my garden the chicks starts to scream for food πŸ™‚ I do hope it is too hard for my cats to reach it, Teodor is the one most interested in hunting birds but he is just too fat to even come close to the nest and I hope Bertil doesn’t care. He is however a master in hunting mice and voles and those I don’t care if he takes.

Today was a perfect day to mow the lawn and by the sound of it many neighbors thought the same thing. The more trees and bushes I plant the faster I mow the lawn πŸ™‚ My plan is to have so many bushes that I just have paths going around the entire garden so mowing will take even shorter time. The only problem with that is the cord since I have an electric mower. It will most likely get caught here and there but I see that as a minor problem.

I have two kinds of grape vines in my garden and they are amongst the hardiest and most pest resistant one can find. One is the American Frost grape (Vitis riparia) and the other the Asian Amur grape (Vitis amurensis). I have a problem with my frost grape though, it only produces male flowers so I never get any grapes but this year the amur grape flowers too so I have high hopes of at least get a few grapes this year πŸ™‚ I have sown more frost grape seeds though and if they germinate it’ll take around seven years until I get any flowers on those new vines πŸ™‚

I also found a small pot that I sowed something two years ago and two small plants are growing in it now, the problem is that the name tag is gone πŸ™‚ I’m not quite sure what is growing πŸ™‚ It might be a service berry but it could be something completely else too πŸ™‚ I’ll know when it is bigger I hope πŸ™‚ Do You remember when I told You two peonies had germinated and started to grow? One is dead and the other one doesn’t look too good, I’m afraid one of the cats walked on it but it is still green so I still have a tiny hope it will survive. If this had happened when it was two years old it would have survived but they are very vulnerableΒ the first summer.

I must admit that I never thought this day would be as nice as it has and still is. Not much sunshine but warm and a just enough cool wind to make it even more pleasant. The morning was warm enough but the humidity made me sweat like a pig, I was stupid enough to wear a fleece jacket, it is so worn that it gives very little warmth to be honest but it still was too much.

I did the laundry and everything dried within an hour. It’s almost a pity I didn’t have more when we have this weather πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I put the potatoes in the vegetable garden while the laundry was drying and noticed that the sand closest to the flowerbed beside was bone dry, no wonder my rhubarbs grow so bad there. So I watered the vegetable garden and also those flowerbeds where I sowed annuals this early spring. Lots of them are showing already so a bit more water doesn’t hurt.

I’ll bring out all my tree tomatoes (Tamarillo) and Naranjilla plants too today, tomorrow might become one of the warmest days ever in May, they predict that it’ll be 27C (80,6F) here! I must also remember to buy sticky fly papers, yes it is the season of those little beauties πŸ™‚ The forest flies are already here to annoy me but still not that many that I feel the need to bring my mosquito hat. Lots of butterflies, bumblebees and the first big dragonfly or as we call them Troll Spindles. No hornets yet though, I do like those friendly giants.

There is something special with early summer rain, it sort of brings out all the smells and scents there is and make the day better even if it is grey and dull. We’ve had that kind of rain today and it was so nice to be out walking after work even if it rained quite a lot in the beginning. The birds loved it because they sang even higher than usual. I thought it had rained quite a lot today, it looked that way when watching it but I guess the raindrops were small because the ground is just as dry as before just beneath the surface. So I guess I still can hope for a mass death amongst the fly larvae πŸ™‚ Too late for the same when it comes to mosquitos, we have plenty already and several attacked me in the forest today. I get immune towards the itching rather fast thankfully so mosquitos don’t disturb me that much to be hones even though that annoying sound they make tends to drive me slightly mad πŸ™‚

Well that is if the climate continues to give us short winters. They really don’t need to be warm but they do need to be short. The Black Walnut is slowly opening up its leafs and it is now almost six years old and perhaps 140cm (56 inches) high πŸ™‚ I feel that I might have a few trees that will grow a bit too high for my garden but at the time they will be that big I’m most likely dead and gone anyway πŸ™‚

Last summer, I think it was, I bought a little machine that makes ice cream. Well that is a lie to be honest. It is two bowls that you put in the freezer until they are deep frozen and one lid with an electric mixer which rotates very, very slow. One put the batter in the deep frozen bowl, put on the lid and start the mixer. After around 5 minutes there’s something very similar to ice cream, like soft ice cream. Ona can of course make real ice cream batter but for two bowls only (one bowl is like one portion) that’s just too much work.

So instead I filled the bowl with yoghurt and it works really good. I put in a variety called Samoan which contains peach, kiwi, mango, pineapple and passionfruit juice. Normally that yoghurt is a bit too sweet but when frozen this way it becomes a bit towards sour instead, just perfect! I also bought a yoghurt with vanilla, apples and cinnamon and I’ll try that one later today. I am rarely at home when the ice cream truck comes to the village and if I don’t bring a cool bag when I’m at the grocery store any ice cream will melt before I come home so this is a pretty good solution.

It didn’t look especially nice outside when I looked through the windows, a bit dark and dreary to be honest. After that we walked in to a deer, she didn’t care much about us. She just stood there watching us pass by and then she continued to grace as if nothing had happened. Canadian geese came flying from all directions out to the fields to graze as well, we have many more here now than what we had when I moved here. We also saw a couple of Greylag geese flying above us and those were rare here back in those days.

We didn’t go far until I saw a fox. I tried to get as close as possible and at the same time tried to tell a more or less deaf dog to come closer to me without alerting it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Nova just kept on walking like always so we didn’t get as close as I had hoped but I did get a few photographs of it anyway. To my big surprise another fox turned up when the first one ran away, so both mother and father fox were out hunting, that must mean the pups are big enough to be left alone now.

The creek was between us so at first it couldn't hear us getting closer.

Then we passed the creek at the same time I tried to tell Nova to stop and that it did hear :-) By the way! A hare passed straight in front of Nova yesterday and she didn't even look as if she wanted to follow it :-) Just a year ago she was determined to kill them all :-)

Playing fox cubs are the cutest thing there is and I once hired a summer cottage a bit north. There was a small village with two grocery stores! nearby (today it is surprising if a village has anything at all to be honest) and I had decided to walk to one of the grocery stores to get a few things I needed. On my way back to the cottage I suddenly saw five small fox cubs playing on the gravel road. I stood there for almost half an hour just watching them and I’m pretty sure mother fox was watching me πŸ™‚

The clouds are getting thinner and my aunt in Gothenburg just texted me that they have sunshine and 20C (68F) in the sun at 8:30 in the morning. So that’s what I am waiting for right now. I don’t trust our weather predictions but they sound pretty nice at the moment, sunshine the entire next week and they think we might reach 20C (68F) in the shadows by the end of next weekend, that would be nice especially since I have a long weekend then. Ascension day is on Thursday and it is a holiday here and I’ve taken Friday off πŸ™‚

It is time to get something to eat and then just wait for the even nicer weather to arrive πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

The weather isn’t boring anyway.

Now I have cows on one side of my cottage and sheep on the other :-)

It is impossible to say that we have boring weather today, five minutes sunshine five minutes rain and lots of strong gusts in between. The sun shone when I came home so we went out for a walk as soon as we could. I could see how showers were closing in so we didn’t walk as far as I had planned.

I wish I could say that the sky was dark blue but it is instead led blue rain clouds.

We almost made it all the way home when the rain started and with it the strong wind. It si hard to say that the rain fell since it flew sideways and I don’t think a drop hit the ground πŸ™‚ at least not until the wind stopped. As usual we took cover in theΒ beekeepers stable, it has saved us many times before.

The sun started to shine again as soon as we came home so I managed to walk around to see what is in bloom now and I noticed that the grass still is very short so if it still is wet on Sunday it doesn’t matter, the mowing can wait another week.

I drove by the super market on my way home and I bought two dvd’s, the last Hunger games film and the latest Star Wars film too. So if the weather continues like this I know what I can do instead πŸ™‚

A good rule with these old cameras is to always photograph with the sun in the back, never towards the sun.

It is time to feed us all and I’ll have a big pot with tea today, it is weekend so I don’t care if it keeps me awake all night πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

It is a new day tomorrow.

Today all photos comes from two old cameras. The first ones comes from an Agfa Ambi silette. A rangefinder camera often called the poor mans Leica. Leica cameras are amongst the few cameras that actually are pretty expensive no matter how old they are. Not so with Agfa cameras but this one is really good. I only have one lens and it is a 135mm telephoto lens.

It hailed heavilyΒ yesterday evening and since temperatures were low all night lots of it covered my car when I woke up this morning. Thankfully the sun showed for a minute or two so it was easy to get rid of before going to work. I think I had driven for five minutes when the snow started to fall. Even I had to admit to myself that it looked pretty but I was a bit worried since I now have summer tires on my car.

The pretty feeling soon vanished because the longer I drove the more it snowed πŸ™‚ At one point it was so hard to see the road that I thought it would be best to stop and slowly drive home again. The road was however so warm that the snow melted as soon as it hit so I continued to work. Just as I arrived the snow stopped falling and I could see some sunshine again. It lasted until I was about to go to the neighbor factory to work, just before I was leaving the snow started to fall again. So even if it is just 200 meters (much the same in yards) to the other place I took the car πŸ™‚

Nothing worked as it should today πŸ™‚ It took quite some time until I even could start working. Something must have been wrong with the paint because it was looking like cement and nothing I did made it better πŸ™‚ I had painted for a while when it suddenly felt like something was tapping me on my head, strange since I was the only one there. So I turned around and saw that the hose from the paint pump had broken and it sprayed me all over my back πŸ™‚ I wear an overall that won’t let any paint through so that didn’t bother me that much.

The worst thing was that everything was covered in paint and my gloves got slippery and it took almost half an hour to fix the hose. I hadn’t worked for long when something else hit me in the back of my head, this time it was the hose for the compressed air that broke πŸ™‚ It just took twenty minutes to fix that hose so I could start working again. I don’t have any clock in there so every now and again I must check the clock in my mobile phone. Guess what? The zipper broke on my overall!!!

The rest of the photos comes from an old camera called Balda Jubilette. It is a viewfinder camera so one has to estimate the distance to the thing one wants to photograph. I am surprised over how good this camera was. It does seem that I have a light leak in it somewhere that I must find.

I can’t even be in the paintbox if that is broken and it would take too long to go back to my ordinary workplace to get a new overall so I had to go outside, now without any snow falling but with a strong wind instead. I did manage to fix it, at least so I could continue to work. I’ll bring another one next time I’ll go there, on Thursday they say. It took me twice as long to paint what I should today and I’m so glad that the day is over. From now on it only can be better.
