I knew the snow was on its way but according to yesterdays predictions it wouldn’t show up until late afternoon, so is anyone surprised it snowed like crazy here already when I got up at 6:20 am πŸ™‚ The flakes are the semi big ones that keeps on falling forever and really builds up to highs heights. Now the predictions says we’ll have snow falling until tomorrow evening and this time I’m afraid they might be right πŸ™‚

There’s a wind too that makes it rather nasty out there unless one can find wind free places. The bog close to the trees are such a place so that’s where we walked this morning. I must admit that I was rather surprised that the ice carried me since it has been rather warm during the days. I might go there next walk too just because it is so quiet there and it feels like the rest of the world doesn’t exist. On our way to the bog we saw a fox, a bit too far away but still near enough to be seen clearly. It knew very well that we looked at it but it just didn’t care. I understood that we never would be able to catch it even if we tried πŸ™‚

I've cropped these photos of the fox a lot so You would be able to see it properly.

The worlds biggest cross-country ski race (Vasaloppet) is on tv at the moment. If one isn’t interested in cross-country skiing it’s the most boring tv program there is, even more than those very quiet documentaries we Swedes seems to lave to make. You know the ones where almost nothing is said and the person they are filming eat breakfast or drink coffee while the radio is turned on in the background sending a local radio station with music no one really listens to any more πŸ™‚ The radio and the slurping of coffee or porridge are the only sounds in the entire documentary, usually they film something outside the windows, like birds eating in the snow os a car passing by on the snowy road. Those programs are not fun and Vasaloppet is even more boring.

I miss all the exiting stuff.

A19117_015

I spent most of the working day in the neighbor factory so time passed by so much faster than I ever could hope for. We had a rather beautiful morning here, -10C (14F) and lots of rime on the trees. We even had a beautiful sunrise and I hope the few photos I took with my Kodak Retinette will come out good. It didn’t take long until the clouds covered the sky and temperatures rose so nothing stayed until I came home from work.

It was around noon when I suddenly realised that the air in my face-guard started to become really hot and the temperature in the paintbox rose dramatically too. The overall I wear doesn’t breathe at all, which is a good thing since the paint is very toxic. So it started to feel like I was working in a steam bath. I had to sop working and walked around to see if there was a fire going on somewhere πŸ™‚ The cause to this was most likely that they had opened up a huge door and the cold air outside must have reached the sensors. Cold sensors mean they send signals to make it warmer in the paintbox and there ai was sweating like a pig πŸ™‚

The first thing I hear when I came back to my usual work place is that we’ve had a fire in the big oven at work, around noon! It wasn’t a big one and they could easily put it out with a normal extinguisher. The other painter at work, he works at a smaller paintbox with its own oven, noticed that there was unusual much smoke up by the roof and since he hadn’t let out any smoke in the department he walked to the big oven and looked in to it, good thing he did πŸ™‚ It turns out one of the heaters had become way too hot and broken down. Normally that just means it stops but not today.

The heater was easily swapped to a new one and they have now cleaned the oven so we can start working as usual tomorrow morning. Exiting things liuke that never happens when I’m around πŸ™‚ It is easy to joke about it, that’s one way to sort of keep that bad thoughts about what could have happened if things gone wrong. I am very happy things like this rarely happens at all.

It is amazing how some days just pass by faster than light, still I can’t remember that I did especially much. There was some daylight left when I came home even if I had stopped by the grocery store on my way home. I just brought the Hasselblad camera with me and I do hope the photos didn’t become too dark. I was cleaning the paintbox when I suddenly got a craving for toast with orange marmalade and cheese. I don’t know where that came from but I knew that I would have to go to the grocery store to get that white bread that is inedible unless one toast it, orange marmalade and some cheese because I didn’t have much left at home. I actually came home with most of it but instead of orange marmalade I had picked up a jar with apricot marmalade and one jar with pear marmalade πŸ™‚ I think any of those will do to be honest.

I can’t say I feel much better but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel today. I was absolutely sure I hadΒ a high fever when I woke up this morning at 4am. I didn’t wake up because of that though but the totally awful smell from the bathroom which filled the entire cottage. Both cats needed to go, one used the litter boc and the other the shower floor. I would still have to get out today since I was out of toilet paper, I can live without food for a while but I can’t live without toilet paper πŸ™‚ I also wanted some sliced pineapple, the kind which is preserved in its own juice. I could of course buy a fresh one but then I would have to peel it and it’s always hard to figure out when it is just enough ripe and if it is too ripe it’s just disgusting. When I would peel it the juice would stick to everything and after all I am close to death having this cold, even if I don’t have a fever, so that’s just too much work πŸ™‚

It was cold during the night, almost -15C (5F) and the world had been colored almost totally white. What was even better was that we had a quite thick fog too and no wind at all, so our morning walk was rather pleasant and we were all painted with some frost in our hair. The sun did shine through the clouds after a while and has kept on shining more or less the entire day. It’llΒ be like this for a few days now, too bad I’ll be working all day.

It tasted as it should though but the taste was stronger than I had thought it would be since it doesn’t get especially much sunlight here during the winter. My Hasselblad camera is a so-called medium format camera, the film is bigger than those to a slr camera. Medium format cameras give totally square photos and one can only take twelve photos on each film roll. For a reason I don’t know it’s much more expensive to develop those films even if it is exactly the same film as the 135 films (but bigger then), so they use the same chemicals. That’s why I use my Hasselblad camera so seldom. Instead I’ve used the Zeiss more often, it use the same kind of film but instead of totally square photos it takes slightly less wide photos so I can get 16 photos from each roll of film. I hope You can follow what I mean πŸ™‚

The film to my Hasselblad is loaded in a special cassette which when it is loaded is attached to the camera body. One day I learned that they have made film cassettes which gives the same size on the negatives as on the Zeiss camera so I can take 16 photos with my Hasselblad too! I found one on our eBay (which we call Tradera) and won the auction fairly easy. I tried to get some info about it on the net but it seems medium format fanatics doesn’t like it, the negatives should be square and that’s it πŸ™‚ I’m not a fanatic so I thought it was great and today I started using that cassette πŸ™‚ I do prefer to take many photos for less money if I can πŸ™‚

So anyway, it was quite pleasant when we started our walk, a weak wind and I could see rips in the sky showing a blue heaven. It changed quickly though and soon the snow started to fall. I have to admit that I didn’t notice it much as long as we were walking in the forest but on our way back it snowed so much sometimes that it was hard to see any longer distances. Still, the flakes are mostly small so it takes some time until it becomes especially much on the ground.

I normally take photos of this tree with its funguses but closer to the ground. I'm walking on the ridge around 15 meters (much the same in yards) up and could take a closer look at the top of the old tree. There are a few funguses gowing even higher.

We went down to the creek like always after work on Fridays and before we reached the forest I understood something was wrong, I could see something looking like a tractor and that’s never good news. I was right, they were cutting down trees just beside the path we walk on and most of the trees growing by the creek too. If I would think like a forest owner I would say it was about time they did something to that area, the trees grew so close together that they never would reach any bigger heights.

Well, I’m not a forest owner so I mostly felt a bit sad to see what they were doing. Now it is not all bad because this will help all spring flowers that grew by that creek. In a year or so the ground will be covered with violets and white wood anemones. It will look amazing and I’m pretty sure the ferns will gain from this too, just imagine how wonderful it will look when all those ferns lean over the water! Β Still I’ll miss the shade the trees gave and I guess one of the fly free zones now are gone for years to come. We’ve had a wonderful sunny day here with very little wind as well. I got the chance to experience it some when I walked to and from the neighbor factory where I worked for a few hours today. It was the kind of day when it felt like the best thing to do was just to jump in the car and drive away but I couldn’t for two reasons.

A19054_023A

The first reason was because too many hadn’t come to work today so they really needed another painter and the second reason was that I had to replace the two lights above the license plate on the tailgate. I knew both of them had broken already yesterday so the first thing I did when I came home was to bring all screwdrivers I have, the two tiny lightbulbs were already waiting in the car.

All photos I took with the Kodak Retinette became really grainy and I think it has to do with really bad light. Next time I'll use it will be on a sunny day. These four and the four after are taken with the Kodak.

I had to have the flashlight in my mouth while I kept the tailgate in a hight where I easily could work. Naturally the screws were of a kind which I didn’t have a screwdriver for. So I talked with the handyman at work, he who fixes all problems we have with almost everything at work and he had the right tool. So as soon as I came back to work I started changing those lightbulbs.

The first thing I do is to drop the tiny screw so it landed between the license plate and the tailgate. I could feel that it would be easy to pick up so I continued with the other one. It is amazing how hard those tiny bulbs sit and there’s really no space for short and chubby fingers πŸ™‚ I did get it out after a while and when I was about to pick up the screw that I dropped I managed to push it down behind the license plate.

The plate is made of plastic but I didn’t dare pulling too hard to get the screw out, so I gave up after a few minutes and called our handyman and asked how I would remove the plate since there were no visible screws to remove. He really tried to explain to me but in the end he had to come out and help me πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Turns out those plastic plates can take a lot before they break and to be honest, it was stupidly easy to remove it πŸ™‚

I had the Zeiss with me that time too. These four are taken with that camera.

So now I drive legally again, well almost because another lightbulb broke so now I need to go to the petrol station on my way home tomorrow and get a new one πŸ™‚ It is time for something to eat and hot cocoa, the night is chilly!

These last four are taken with my Nikon D5100 last Sunday.
