We’re just about to break 31C (87,8F) and I’m so glad I’m not at work 🙂 It is very different to take the heat here at home when the humidity is as low as it is (22%) than it ia at work where the huge washing machine just vomits out steam and the temperature is even higher 🙂 I didn’t stay long at work though, I left already at 10am today.
I had an appointment at my optician at 11:10 and it takes a while to drive. To my very big luck they called for me much earlier than my appointment so I left before I should have been there 🙂 My eyes have changed very little and they said I really didn’t need new glasses for that reason but I thought it best anyway. The powder paint is like sand and every time I clean them they make tiny scratches in the hardened plastic as I think they make almost all glasses from now days.
It wasn’t until I was driving homewards I realised that all schools have their last day today, I saw carriages where students already had gathered around and they were just about to be driven around the town. Must be pretty adventures since Falköping is all hills and slopes 🙂 I got out just in time before it all started, on,y god knows how long it would have taken if I had gotten caught in that traffic 🙂
I stopped by the grocery store in Gudhem on my way home and the owner gave me a small Tamarind tree. I’ve always wanted to sow one myself but one never knows how well those seeds germinate. She had sown this one six months ago and I think I’ll have a good chance on keeping it alive. No bigger problems if we’ll get a warm summer but the indoors air is usually too dry for most plants growing in hotter regions and we just have too little daylight during winter but I’ll do what I can.
I bought two ginger roots which were organically grown and I’ll plant one and place it outdoors all summer, the other one I’ll eat 🙂 I also bought two small Fuchsia plants and hope I’ll be able to keep them happy on the north side of my cottage. Fuchsia’s grow best on chilly and rainy summers but even if I really would like to see these growing big I still rather have a warm and sunny 🙂
This is the last day with this kind of heat, tomorrow will be much cooler but still summer warm. Now it is time to give us all something to eat and after that I’ll slowly melt away somewhere where there’s no sunshine 🙂
Have a great day!
Yesterday they said that the strong winds would be gone today, I don’t know what universe they live it but it’s sure not the one I live in 🙂 it is much nicer though and so far the day has been rather fine. Rain will come tonight though but will be gone by tomorrow morning. I think I like this strong wind after all 🙂
We woke up pretty early today and since I had promised to go to the big lake this weekend to get some photos of the cranes I thought I just as well could do it today. I also had to fill the tires on my car with some more air and that would take quite some time and I really didn’t want the dogs to have to stay in the dog yard a day when I’m at home (Sweden has a holiday today too). So I put the dogs in the car and off we went. The first stop would be the petrol station to fill the tires and also to buy some oil, my car tends to eat it every now and again.
After that I drove homewards again but stopped at the nature reserve Forentorp Ängar (Forentorp meadows), You know where the old mill once belonging to the abbey in Gudhem. Unfortunately most pastures had signs saying cows and calves were walking in them so dogs weren’t allowed and the only open one was occupied by a woman and her Boxer, she was training it tracking. I guess she must have had some blood that she would drop every now and again so the dog could follow where she had walked.
So we didn’t stay there for long but continued to the lake. Since we just had our daylight savings time most people would still be asleep when we were there but I had forgotten about those staying here in caravans, most of them seemed to be outside looking at the cranes. Still I got some photos before we went home again and took a normal walk in the forest. Lots of birds are singing now so I do hope we won’t get a too bad setback even though it is more than likely that we will get. I can’t remember when we had spring this early before.
I’ve done the laundry and I have a tomato sauce in the slow cooker, I’ve just started it so it won’t be ready for several hours yet. Tomato sauce only get better and better by the day so I’ll have it to work too 🙂 The clouds are getting thicker and thicker so perhaps it is a good idea to take another walk before the rain starts.
Have a great day!
It is not the brightest of days here, in fact it is very dreary and gloomy here. The clouds are hanging low and it drizzles every now and again. We were supposed to have some heavy showers but thankfully those have missed this village. There will be no improvement in the weather today but they do still predict some sunshine for tomorrow after noon.
Yesterday I drove to Falköping after I had been at the garage to get some things I wanted for the weekend and I was looking after a grocery store the garage owner told me about because even if Falköping is a tiny town the traffic is murderous and it is hard to find any parking spaces. I missed it yesterday but realised when I came home that I needed to find it. I had an email in my computer telling me a package was waiting for me there. I can’t understand why but all other delivery services use another store than this one.
The package would stay there for two weeks but I thought it best to go there this morning. I thought that the store, like all other stores would open up at 9 am but I thought wrong, they didn’t open until 10 🙂 Thankfully I had brought my camera so I drove to the old health resort on the mountain and took some photos to show here. It is mostly building because I didn’t want to go to the top of the mountain where they have a tiny zoo and a beautiful walking area. I was still a bit early when I came back to the car so I went to a petrol station and filled up my car, it turns out that the petrol price was 1/9 of an US dollar lower there than in the village where I usually fill up with petrol.
I went to the store and picked up the package and yes it is an old camera 🙂 🙂 I was thinking the other week that I have no old-time Nikon and there is one that usually is very cheap because for some reason people rather buy the later versions even if this one is really good. It is a Nikon F-401s (in the US 4004s). It is seen as a beginners camera and the first one that Nikon tried autofocus but it can be handled fully manually too. I already had a lens I could use so this one costed around 10 US dollars. I’ve already started to use it and so far I like it a lot. But now I feel that I really don’t need any more cameras 🙂 🙂
We met a neighbor when we went out walking after I had come back from Falköping and he told me that earlier this week he had heard Sune barking like crazy and he just wouldn’t stop. So he walked down to the dog yard and found a terrified Sune with his hair standing straight up. Sune calmed down when my neighbor started talking to him and suddenly he went down the hole they have digged leading into the garage and stayed there quiet 🙂 Wer are now both wondering what could have scared him so much because my neighbor couldn’t see anything.
He finds both moose and wild hog interesting so we doubt that any of those had been close but it could be either the lynx which pass here every now and again or perhaps the wolves have come back? I don’t worry about the lynx, they’ll rather run that try to fight with a dog but I will keep my eyes open to see if I can see any tracks from wolves. I doubt a wolf would try to get in to the dogyard and if it did it wouldn’t be able to get through that small hole into the garage, that would also be a very dangerous thing to do for the wolf because it would not know what would meet it inside the garage, the risk would just be too great. I’ll keep my eyes open though.
It is time for a pot of tea and perhaps something little to eat. They are showing NCIS Los Angeles on channel six right now but I lost interest when they for the zillionth time found a muslim terrorist organisation, I mean there must be some other guys they can fight at least once in a while 🙂
Have a great day!
I would exaggerate if I said we’re having a storm here today but the winds are strong, so strong that they made it hard to keep the car in the middle of the road on my way home. I know I shouldn’t be surprised any longer but the prediction yesterday said we would get rain this evening but nothing before that. It started pouring down last evening at 9 pm and continued all night and almost to noon today 🙂 They now predict rain all night so I wouldn’t be surprised if nothing fell at all 🙂
What looked to become a very good apple year turned out to be a very bad one instead. The few apples that actually are hanging in the trees are small but very colorful. I have four apple trees in my garden and I doubt I’ll get enough to make an apple pie. I got almost no gooseberries and very few currants but lots of blueberries instead. I got more Aronia berries than I’ve ever gotten but they are so tart it is impossible to eat them. I’m glad the deers like them though, they have eaten loads of them 🙂
I think I’ll get me some blackberry bushes next year, we have wild ones just around the corner here and I found several ripe ones this year (and they were pretty big too!)! That rarely happens since the bushes grow where the sun rarely reach and the frost comes early. They are barely hardy here though but I think I’ll get some of those already growing here, I won’t tell You how just in case I’ll do it the illegal way 🙂 but I have already saved some seeds so I’ll sow them later this week.
It is time to make some food and today I’ll also have a cup of cocoa, autumn is here 🙂
Have a great day!
I want to thank You all for the kind comments in the previous post!
The day has an ominous feeling to it, You know the kind the people in disaster films always have before it all happens but they ignore until it is too late. The weather is unsettled, winds pretty strong and it’s only possible to see that the sun shines through edgy rips in the clouds.
I doubt any disaster will happen though, I can also feel like this just before I get a stomach flu and I think that’s more likely to be the reason 🙂 But isn’t it typical, we’ve had really nice weather all week, sunny warm days and chilly clear nights but as soon as the weekend starts so does the bad weather. I have to admit that it hasn’t rained but still, would it be so awful if we actually had some sunshine during the weekends too?
I’ve done the laundry and it is now hanging on the patio to dry so I have done all chores I was supposed to do. Well the grass isn’t mowed in a long time but I need some sunshine to dry it up before I even try that and there’s no risk of that happening until earliest next weekend. We’ll get lots of rain this coming week, glimpses of sunshine yes but not enough to dry anything up.
So I’ll stay calm as much as possible today, hoping that no stomach flu arrives despite the feeling. Nova will most likely stay close to me all the time and Sune will be staying by the door, waiting for Orvar to return. They were best of friends and were never far away from each other. Bertil also stays close to me now, he looked at Orvar as if he was his brother and is worried that he isn’t showing up. But life goes on and hopefully it will take at least ten years until I have to say goodbye to any of them again.
Have a great day!
I really didn’t feel like going out this morning, the rain was pouring down and there was a weak but very effective wind, so I waited in the longest to go outside. Nova and I both hesitated when I opened up the door but the majority, including Bertil wanted to take a walk. We hadn’t walked far when the rain turned to drizzle and then stopped totally. Still no rain but it is anything than inviting outside.
After our walk I had to go to town for some errands and I hoped that if I went away so I would be in Falköping at the time they were opening the stores there wouldn’t be many other out to shop and how right I was 🙂 I was the only one outside when I arrived. On the way to the pharmacy to buy the medicine for Orvar and Hector I met one elderly woman (to be honest, she looked like she was 100 years old) who were out walking with Nordic walking sticks (I didn’t know they were called that 🙂 ) and she had a high pace and didn’t walks as the age she looked 🙂
There was only one other customer in the pharmacy, a lady that walked like the age she looked to have and she was getting so many medicines that she had to sit down and wait until they had gotten it all for her. Thankfully for this lady we have a high cost protection and if this is what she usually gets this wouldn’t cost her anything. I thing the limit is around $ 110 US a year, we never have to pay more than that every year for medicine. Anyhow, there were actually a few people out walking when I came out from the pharmacy, mostly mothers with carriages. I guess that is one sure way to get babies to sleep 🙂
I took a few photos and started driving homewards again. I stopped at the grocery store in Gudhem to get a package, I had bought a tele-photo lens to my old Minolta. No one else bade on it so I got it almost shamefully cheap 🙂 I jumped in to my car when I had fetched it and when I turned the car key I lost the grip on it before the car started. I turned the key again but the car refused to start. Rather annoying to be honest. Suddenly another car drove in to the parking lot and it turned out to be my neighbor, the farmers up the slope 🙂 I tried to start it several times but Colonel Hati, as I call my car had no wish what so ever to start again 🙂
The garage I normally use when something is wrong isn’t far away and the number to the garage is also the owners private phone number. I knew I would be able to get home just in case since my neighbors were there but if it didn’t start it would be nice if they could take the car as soon as possible. So I called him and we talked for a while and I said that he could listen how it sounded through the phone when I tried to start Colonel Hati. Naturally he started as soon as I turned the key 🙂 🙂 🙂 This has actually happened to me when I had a Volvo (it is a quite common problem) if the engine has to be stopped before it gets warm it can become cranky and flood the engine with petrol and when that happens it can take up to half an hour before the cars even thinks of starting again and when it does it sounds terrible 🙂 But I have to say that Hati didn’t sound bad at all, on the contrary.
I did however tell the garage owner that I will have to go to him for that window problem but it had to wait for a while since I am a bit too busy these coming weeks. So home I came and the first thing I did after letting the dogs out of the dog house and in to the cottage was to go to the woodshed and chop some wood. Naturally I hit my own hand 🙂 No, no blood. I had to just get the ax to get a grip of the log so I took it very slowly and gently, I know what can happen 🙂 and since the ax is slightly dull nothing bad happened. Had it been new however I would now most likely have been on my way to the hospital 🙂 🙂 🙂 At least I now have fire wood so I can start a fire later today 🙂
