We had our annual road association meeting yesterday evening, something we all fear will drag on and on until we all think bad thoughts about what we want to do with the person/ persons who are responsible for just continuing talking about other things than the road. It was the best meeting ever πŸ™‚ We were just five people there, we agreed on everything and I think the meeting took around ten minutes, we had coffee and cookies for an hour after that πŸ™‚ or as we call if we had a fika πŸ™‚

I woke up to a nasty cold world at around 4am this morning. Nova is not a cuddly dog anytime really but she has decided she will be that around 4am every morning. I really can’t get angry even if I would wish that she could be it slightly later in the morning πŸ™‚ Anyway, I looked at the thermometer and it showed -2,6C (27,3F) but the sun was rising so we went out for a walk. It was enough with a fleece jacket as long as we walked in the sunshine, it was far from enough when we walked in the shadows πŸ™‚ Still I didn’t mind, no flies were out flying in those temperatures and it looks like my tomatoes survived yet another frosty morning!

We’ll be at the edge of a low pressure tomorrow and all weather sites predict lots of rain during the night and the Norwegian even predicts thunder. It will be a bit too cool tomorrow but it all depends on which side of the low pressure we’ll be on. I really don’t want any rain but I guess that since the ground is as dry as it is most will just be sucked up by all the trees and the grass but I fear it will wake up all those blood sucking biting flies. We already have some of them, the biggest ones that can be heard from a great distance but those are easy to keep on a distance (which means easy to hit in the air πŸ™‚ ).

Guess if I got surprised!

DSC_0020 (20)

Summer has returned for an afternoon but that was something I really couldn’t believe this morning when I went ou to the cat to get something I had forgotten. There was ice all over the car! I had just woken up and was so tired that I didn’t go inside again to bring the camera πŸ™‚ It was -2C (28,4F) as coldest this morning. I have to admit it surprised me quite a lot πŸ™‚

This is how it looks by my gate. Not especially fun to walk through there after rain has fallen :-) I'll start cutting it down as soon as it doesn't flower.

Hundkex, or dog bisquits in English. A bit early this year. To be honest it might just as well be wild carrots or something else very similar but I call all of them hundkex πŸ™‚

It must have been during a very short time though because my tomato plants looks just as good as they did before. None of the weather sites had predicted this or even come anywhere near that low temperature, they all predicted 8C (46,4F). I wonder if I could have forced them to get me new tomato plants if they had died πŸ™‚ No idea to sue anything in this country, if one would win the best one can hope for is a “Good for You” and a tap on the shoulder. If one lose however one must pay the winners legal fees and all the rest.

Lots of flowers that really shouldn’t flower yet flowers out there in the nature. It is odd to see all the flowers in bloom that shouldn’t flower at the same time πŸ™‚ It isn’t that strange to be honest, spring sprung already in early March here, can’t remember if that ever has happened here during my lifetime.

The morning is a bit chilly, we had below 0C (32F) this morning but since the sun shone and the wind was absent it felt rather nice anyway. According to the weather predictions we’ll have a cloud free sky so is anyone surprised if I say we do have clouds in the sky πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ They are thin though so the sun will be able to shine through.

We were out walking for over two hours and ended up by the bog where we so often go. Sune andΒ NovaΒ found sticks to chew and I sat on a tree stump listening to the birds singing. There were especially two birds from the same species I listened to, my guess is that one was a bit older than the other because his song was much more graceful, the other ne had on the other hand more power to his song. I wonder who would sound more attractive to the female birds?

The fox is getting used to us now. Today we stood and watched each other for quite some time until he went away. Nova and Sune didn’t care about him at all, they were more interested in eating deer and hare poop πŸ™‚ I guess that, if we meet him again this weekend, he won’t walk away at all. He is really far too busy to find food for the cubs so if he feels we’re no threat he will just ignore us instead.

It is a cold but sunny morning here and we were out walking as soon as the sun started to rise above the horizon. The frost cover wasn’t as thick that I had thought, the below freezing degrees started already yesterday evening. The absence of wind made it much nicer that it was to be honest.

I had problems falling asleep and I woke up just after 4 am too but I did feel relaxed so it was a good sleep the little I got. I can’t say we have daylight already at that time now but it sure shows that the day is close. Today the sun went up at 5:32 am and soon we won’t have much night at all here and further north they won’t have it at all since the sun will stay above the horizon 24/7.

Mist “pillars” were rising by the little lake and according to folklore that’s fairies dancing before the day starts. The night was rather chilly so the world was covered in a thing white frost layer, quite beautiful ans since the sun is slightly blocked by thin clouds it stayed for quite some time. It was cold during the night, almost -15C (5F) and the world had been colored almost totally white. What was even better was that we had a quite thick fog too and no wind at all, so our morning walk was rather pleasant and we were all painted with some frost in our hair. It tasted as it should though but the taste was stronger than I had thought it would be since it doesn’t get especially much sunlight here during the winter. If I would think like a forest owner….

DSC_0020

We’ve had a cold and sunny day here today, even after I had come home from work. Normally the sun is behind clouds when we get out on our walk but today it showed itself several times even if it was just for a few minutes at a time. No wind what so ever so I would have loved the weather anyway πŸ™‚ It was so cold that in places where the sun couldn’t reach there still was frost on all the plants.

Tomorrow we’ll be back to warmer weather again (not much warmer though but above 0C (32F) ) and with it both rain and snow will fall they say. We’ll have some semi strong winds too but not as bad as it was last time. To be honest, I didn’t notice the wind much last time since it was stopped by both my neighbors cottage, garage and the forest, I actually barely could hear it most of the time.

We went down to the creek like always after work on Fridays and before we reached the forest I understood something was wrong, I could see something looking like a tractor and that’s never good news. I was right, they were cutting down trees just beside the path we walk on and most of the trees growing by the creek too. If I would think like a forest owner I would say it was about time they did something to that area, the trees grew so close together that they never would reach any bigger heights.

Never a good sign to see a working machine there, the only way it can come from is from the other side of the forest.

Well, I’m not a forest owner so I mostly felt a bit sad to see what they were doing. Now it is not all bad because this will help all spring flowers that grew by that creek. In a year or so the ground will be covered with violets and white wood anemones. It will look amazing and I’m pretty sure the ferns will gain from this too, just imagine how wonderful it will look when all those ferns lean over the water! Β Still I’ll miss the shade the trees gave and I guess one of the fly free zones now are gone for years to come. Unfortunately this will not affect the tics at all and they are plenty down by the creek.

It has been cold when one walks out in the morning thinking that it’s really warm when it still is -3,5C (25,7F) πŸ™‚ The weak wind we had yesterday was gone but lots of the rime and snow that had been on the trees were gone, at least close to the village. It was a very different thing out on the bog. We went out here because no hunters showed up this morning and tomorrow will be too late since it will start to warm up rather much.

Today I wanted to walk where we usually walk on the bog but had to take a small detour because of the deep snow that had accumulated amongst the smaller bushes. Someone with small feet had walked there recently but as I followed those tracks towards the island we always follow they suddenly stopped, they sort of started in the middle of nowhere πŸ™‚ It was a very pleasant morning and the dogs ran around everywhere but still close to me so I didn’t have to shout to get them to come back.

We had been walking for around 45 minutes when we came to the point where we usually turn back again but something told me to continue for a while and suddenly I started to recognise some fallen trees. I think I walked perhaps ten meters (much the same in yards) away from where I usually stop and suddenly I found my foot prints from last Sunday πŸ™‚ Instead of turning right I had continued towards north for around 45 minutes last week πŸ™‚ I realised that I had a very clear picture in my mind of how it looked ahead of me but not about how it actually looks from where I came πŸ™‚

So instead of walking back the same way we came we just walked back to the other side where we walked the last week. We could hear one or two dogs bark in the distance but I don’t think it was hunting dogs, these didn’t sound as if they were on a mission, more like they had loads of fun πŸ™‚ I also heard the same chainsaw we heard last Sunday.

Something even more fun is that when one is waiting to reach an operator and is number two in line, the old phone decides that this was boring and turn itself off πŸ™‚ The first time I only waited for twenty minutes, the second for twenty-five πŸ™‚ But I’ll have the new sim card on Tuesday they think. Life is just too fun sometimes πŸ™‚

It is time to make some tea and something to eat. Tomorrow will be chilly too but after that it’ll get warmer again. Oh the joy of driving on slippery roads on Monday πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

My old home town was snowed in today.

My old home town was snowed in today, they got almost 40cm (16 inches) of snow during the night and early morning according to the news. Nothing worked, especially not the trains and trams. The occasional bus managed to go but most seemed to stand still. This is a city close to the ocean so it isn’t often they get that much snow. I remember the last time they got even more snow there and it was November 17th 1995. It fell so much snow that it took them four days to get the traffic to work again.

I had a day of from work that day or a night of since I worked nights and was out walking with my dogs in the snow storm, they loved to jump into the huge snow piles, some over 1,5 meters high (much the same in yards). Cars were just left in the middle of the roads and people were locked in at Volvo where I worked at the time, they refused to let people out until at least the bigger road outside the factory was cleared πŸ™‚

Here today however we might have gotten 5cm (2 inches) of snow and the rime we had got replaced by a thin layer of snow instead, almost as beautiful since the snow is very fluffy. As You all know I’m not a big fan of winter but it would be better if it stayed chilly until spring arrived because the roads will be nasty slippery when nit starts to thaw again and it will by the end of this week according to all predictions. So when that finally happens I do hope it stays above freezing point.

It is time to start a fire in the stove, we’re not even close to any thaw tonight or the coming days so I better start now so the warmth stays in the cottage all night. There’s no wind to talk about so that won’t be any problems.
