Yesterday was a horrible day at work, I don’t know how it was outside though. It might have been rather wonderful since the day was so warm but it was also mostly cloudy they said. I had the big luck to hand paint all day so the already hot factory was even for me since the air from the oven hit me all day. I don’t know how much water I drank but it was too little. The big problem is that what goes in must go out too 🙂
I woke up to a very foggy morning today, it was so thick that I couldn’t see my neighbors cottage and it is just 20 meters (much the same in yards) away 🙂 I hurried out with the dogs because as soon as the sun started to warm up the already warm air the fog thinned. We were able to enjoy it all through our walk though. It doesn’t happen often but today even the forest were full of fog.
I went home a bit early today because thunder arrived and the lights were blinking at work. It hit somewhere in the village where I work and was moving eastwards so I figured it would arrive here at home before me if I stayed until my working day ended. It hasn’t arrived yet because it moved very slowly. I have heard it in the distance and the site Real Time Lightning Map (click on the red text and a new window showing the site will pop up, it works all over the world) shows that the thunder is just north of where I live.
I better stop here just in case it turns south, I can feel how it is getting colder by the minute now so I guess it is 🙂
Have a great day!
It is a cold but sunny morning here and we were out walking as soon as the sun started to rise above the horizon. The frost cover wasn’t as thick that I had thought, the below freezing degrees started already yesterday evening. The absence of wind made it much nicer that it was to be honest.
The rain they had predicted for today is now moved to Sunday, that means I’ll have to mow the lawn no matter if I want to or not 🙂 If I wait another week the grass will be so long that my mower won’t manage to cut it and who knows if we’ll have sunshine next week, they are wobbly enough to predict the weather just a day ahead so just imagine how bad it is when they try to do it for a week 🙂
I shouldn’t have slept that long yesterday even if I most likely needed it. I had problems falling asleep and I woke up just after 4 am too but I did feel relaxed so it was a good sleep the little I got. I can’t say we have daylight already at that time now but it sure shows that the day is close. Today the sun went up at 5:32 am and soon we won’t have much night at all here and further north they won’t have it at all since the sun will stay above the horizon 24/7.
Lots of birds are singing and we heard a deer warn about something with is odd barking but we didn’t see any other animals today. We walked to the clean creek but it was even too cold for Sune to take a bath today, I even saw some ice at the edges of the water. Mist “pillars” were rising by the little lake and according to folklore that’s fairies dancing before the day starts. Fairies are actually quite nasty beings, they love to give children diseases and they might even kill them if they want to.
The wind has started to blow some so I guess the grass soon will have dried up enough for me to mow it. I better check all the electric cords so they still work, I had problems with one of them last summer if memory serves me right. I think I’ll have time for a pot of tea before mowing though 🙂
Have a great day!
The bog ladies had had a chilly and wet night so I can understand that they had had many fires burning during the night 🙂
It is actually quite nice outside even if the sun isn’t shining and the occasional rain drop falls down. It is slightly above 10C (50F) at the moment and the little wind that’s there is just nice. I wouldn’t mind if the cracks in the clouds were a bit bigger but we can’t get it all, can we 🙂
I had hoped that I would be able to mow the lawn today, not because I like it but it is soon a bit too long but it is still so wet that my mower just would clog up totally. Most of the Wood anemones have buds now, I have a few different ones like the Yellow one but also a few different of the white one. Soon I’ll see white, blue, green and white with a blue eye flowering in my woodland.
I have a few plants in my cool cellar and I’m thinking of bringing them up so I can turn off the greenhouse lamp down there, it eats energy but is great for the plants. The problem is that if we get a setback how well can I cover them, they already have leafs. I’ll place them on the patio close to the cottage wall and that usually keep the frost away. The sunshine however, if we get some that is, is the biggest problem. Just like us plants need to adjust to it so they don’t get burned.
Tomorrow will be cold and rainy they say so perhaps I should wait with picking up those plants. This is the time of year when weather can change within minutes, one minute it’s sunny and warm and the next snow can fall.
It is time to have a pot of tea and after that we’ll take another walk.
Have a great day!
We had such wonderful weather on Monday and Tuesday that it just was impossible to stay indoors for any longer time. Today isn’t that bad either but it is cloudy and has been for most of the day.
Still, birds are singing and farmers are plowing their fields, they have also put manure everywhere so it smells rather bad in some places 🙂 Most of it is now plowed down though, they all want to finish the job before the rain starts falling, something the predictions still debate over when that actually is happening 🙂
It is time to get something to eat, all the animals have already gotten their food but Nova decided to not have hers this evening. She does like that sometimes and I have no idea why. I guess she’s hoping I’ll drop something of what I’m having but I’ll be extra careful today 🙂
Have a great day!
The day started out slightly foggy and drizzly, the fog gave up but the drizzle kept on until early afternoon. It has been warm though and the wind has been rather weak so it has been pleasant to take walks anyway. I had planned on doing some repotting of plants but instead a took a nap, an hour and a half long nap and the only reason I woke up was because of a telemarketer. I was actually quite happy she called so I finally woke up but not so happy that I bought anything from her 🙂
I have tried to find any folklore about the beings and their activities at Easter but have found almost nothing, only the witches seems to have been active this holiday. I guess however they are out and about like always though even if humans were more concentrated on scaring witches. I did however find a lot of sites about the old Norse believes and can dig in to that if You wish to know more. The Norse beliefs (or Asa tron as we call it) is a growing religion here though even if few say it out loud yet. Almost all swedish names for the days in the week comes from the Norse gods. Monday and Saturday sort of linked to it too since Monday is the Moon’s day (it was pulled across the sky by the horse Rimfaxe) and the sun was pulled across the sky by the horse Skinfaxe).
Tuesday (Tisdag in Swedish) is Tyr’s day, he was the son Of Oden. Wednesday (Onsdag in Swedish) is Oden’s day. Thursday (Torsdag in Swedish) is Thor’s day (His name in swedish is Tor) and Friday is Freya’s day (She’s called Freja in Swedish), Saturday however has nothing to do with any beliefs, it is the day for baths 🙂 Saturday is called Lördag in Swedish and to löga is to take a bath in old Swedish 🙂
It is time to shave off all the hair on my head again, it doesn’t matter how much I wash my hair, I can still find powder paint if I scratch on my skull 🙂
Have a great day!
Sorry about not posting anything on Tuesday, I suddenly had lots to do and it lasted til Wednesday too. Now things are back to normal again and I hope it stays that way, I really don’t like unexpected work, to be honest I don’t like expected work that much either 🙂
We’ve had foggy mornings here and yesterday when the fog finally lifted we reached a bit over 15,5C (59,9F). I did feel that it was much warmer at my work place and I drank loads of water but not enough anyway because the headache came like a letter in the mail. We should have gotten much the same weather today but even if the fog finally lifted it stayed as thick clouds in the sky. Still it did get reasonable warm anyway and since I had to work I really didn’t mind if the sun didn’t shine 🙂
I brought old-time cameras with me in the mornings so I hope I’ll get some nice fog photos to show when those films are developed. I could only stop for a few minutes in each place if I didn’t want to come too late to work. I have some film photos to show already today though and I think I saw some fog in a few of them 🙂 I do hope that we’ll get fog on Saturday morning too, the Norwegian site say we might because if we do I’ll try to get to the bog lake again to take more photos there. They say that there’s a path going around the lake and I’ll see if I can find it, after all the sun is up until well after 6pm now so I will have lots of time if I start early in the morning.
The other painter at work works beside the line where I work with a separate smaller oven and he usually take all bigger things that are too big to put on the line. Normally It is I who help him to place the things right before he starts to paint them. Today he only had nasty heavy things and all were soo big that we couldn’t use the lift (a chain and hook hanging in the roof) so we had to do everything using only our muscles, we don’t have plenty of that I’m afraid 🙂 At one moment I had to have my hands lifted above my head for over five minutes, that’s not nice 🙂 When I was going home I wanted to pick up some garbage from the floor and I barely could do it, guess if my back was stiff after today 🙂 🙂 I guess that one shouldn’t go on like this if one has rheumatism in the spine 🙂 I’m soo looking forward to tomorrow morning when I’ll try to get out of bed 🙂 🙂
It is time to get something to eat, I’m thinking hard flatbread with cheese and I think liver pate and sausages of some kind 🙂
Have a great day!
It was cold during the night, almost -15C (5F) and the world had been colored almost totally white. What was even better was that we had a quite thick fog too and no wind at all, so our morning walk was rather pleasant and we were all painted with some frost in our hair. The sun did shine through the clouds after a while and has kept on shining more or less the entire day. It’ll be like this for a few days now, too bad I’ll be working all day.
This year my lime tree gave me three small limes and two days ago I harvested the first one, We all know that limes are pale yellow-greenish when we cut them open so guess if I got surprised when this first one was brightly orange 🙂 I’ve never heard of a lime having orange fruit pulp and it looked rather amazing to the green outside. It tasted as it should though but the taste was stronger than I had thought it would be since it doesn’t get especially much sunlight here during the winter. I’ll photograph the next one if it is as orange as this one.
We walked down to the creek later on and I didn’t know that the horse guy would be working today. I didn’t have any digital camera with me so when he and the horses suddenly walked out in front of me there just wasn’t time enough to adjust the camera to take a photo. We walked up-stream and I did think that I should save the last photo just in case we would be lucky again but how big would the chances be that I would be able to adjust the camera before he had went on elsewhere?
So I took that last photo on the roll and guess if I got annoyed when we met him again, standing still while cutting down a big tree stump, against the light so the last fog could be seen in the distance! It is one of those photos I’ll never take I’m afraid 🙂 It is like when one is out fishing and almost get that big fish and no one believes the story since there is no evidence 🙂
It is time to take a last walk before it gets dark I think. Tomorrow the sun will stay up until one minute after I’ve stopped working 🙂 It won’t be long now until I’ll have enough daylight to get some photographs when the dogs and I are out walking after work, I think a week or one and a half.
Have a great day!
I’m late as always on Mondays and I’ll have to pay my bills after this so todays post will be a short one.
It is rather warm outside and the snow is melting rather fast, the only problem I have with that is that the roads in the village get so Icy that it is hard to walk here. I almost slid by my mailbox when I came home 🙂
The bigger roads however were really good and thank g for that because it was so thick fog that I hardly could see the road sometimes. So once again I must admit that they were right in the weather predictions!! That can actually be a sign of the end of the world as we know it 🙂 🙂
It is time to pay my bills and after that I’ll have something to eat.
Have a great day!
They had promised fog all day today and fog we had but as we say over here,it was nothing to write home about. It is not until now when the sun is about to go down that it really thickened up properly. I guess that it will be as thickest when I’m on my way to work tomorrow, when I really don’t want any fog 🙂 I must however admit that the predictions were absolutely right and that isn’t something I say often 🙂
It has been a rather nice day temperature wise, 4C (39,2F) and the snow is melting away rather fast. There’s still plenty around but the dripping from our roofs have been steady and I have seen gravel on the road where they have plowed it. Even the stairs to my door will be snow free by tomorrow if it doesn’t get too cold during the night. Still, I have started a fire in the stove just in case the humidity outside would try to get indoors too.
I’ve done the laundry like I always do on Sundays, I still have a few working t-shirts to do since the powder paint tends to get stuck on anything that is washed at the same time. I really should do the dishes too but I don’t feel that I have the energy for it 🙂 I’m pretty sure it won’t run away so it can wait until tomorrow instead. I’ll also make dinner for work today, I’ll have meatballs, breakfast sausages and I think pasta with a tomato sauce. I really would like fried potatoes but then I need to boil the potatoes and then fry them and as I said I don’t have the energy for it 🙂
Well I better start with the dinner and after that I’ll make myself something else to eat now. All the animals have already gotten their food so they will all sit by my side while I make my food just in case I would drop something or give them bits of it 🙂
Have a great day!
I waited for quite some time today but no hunters showed up. I wonder if they might have stopped for the season or if they just changed place to hunt at, they have a rather small area but I think it is split in two parts and sometimes they’re here and sometimes in the other place. It was quite chilly but not as cold as they had predicted in any weather site. No wind and the world filled with rime.
I had decided to walk the way I almost always do and try to go round the once rather big island in this previous shallow lake. I’ve been looking at aerial photographs so I knew more or less how to walk to arrive where we went yesterday afternoon. Instead I changed my mind the last second when we reached the bog and walked to the place we were yesterday and decided it would be nice to walk the known area on our way back home again.
The aerial photographs really doesn’t show how it looks on the ground 🙂 They show the big pines (the most common tree out there) and spruces very well but not the tiny bog-myrtle plants which grows everywhere or the birches in all varieties of sizes 🙂 So when we had walked for almost one and a half hour I realised that I had no real idea where I was 🙂 I knew I had to be very close to the place where I was supposed to be but wasn’t sure if I would continue or go back. It would have been so much easier if the sun had shone like all weather sites said it should. Then at least I would have known if I had started to walk in circles 🙂
The bog is around 10 square kilometers (3,861 square miles) so it is possible to get totally lost but at the same time one can hear things happening on the opposite side of it. Today I heard a chainsaw and could have followed that sound to get out on the other side if needed. Still, the snow was pretty deep in most places so I would have no energy to go anywhere when I finally had arrived to the other side 🙂 I decided to go back the same way we had come (after looking at the aerial photographs again when we had come home I realise I was perhaps only 30 meters (much the same in yards) to where I normally walk 🙂
The sun never showed but just as I finally knew where we were and almost back to where we started the fog began to roll in over the bog. Tobe lost a sunny day is bad enough but to be lost when thick fog comes isn’t good at all. We arrived back home to the cottage after three hours and we are all very tired but I know the dogs loved this 🙂 I had to keep an extra eye on Nova, she has started to become deaf on one ear and the other is usually concentrated on other things than me saying stuff to her 🙂 The risk of her wandering of is big but today she finally understood that I really wanted her to listen to me and she also followed Sune when I called for him.
I didn’t see any animals but lots of tracks after them. I think we scared away a moose because the place where it had been laying still looked very fresh. There also were tracks from hogs, Red deer, Roe deers, and Black Grouse. I also think I saw tracks from a fox but they were a bit old so it could just as well have been tracks from a hunting dog. If the long-term weather predictions are right we might have a chance of going out on the bog next weekend too, they say it will become warmer next Sunday so if the hunters aren’t around I’ll go out there again but the usual way instead 🙂
It is time to make some rose-hip soup, there’s nothing better after a long walk on the bog. The dogs are sleeping and have been since we came home 🙂
