I spent most of the working day in the neighbor factory so time passed by so much faster than I ever could hope for. We had a rather beautiful morning here, -10C (14F) and lots of rime on the trees. We even had a beautiful sunrise and I hope the few photos I took with my Kodak Retinette will come out good. It didn’t take long until the clouds covered the sky and temperatures rose so nothing stayed until I came home from work.
It was around noon when I suddenly realised that the air in my face-guard started to become really hot and the temperature in the paintbox rose dramatically too. The overall I wear doesn’t breathe at all, which is a good thing since the paint is very toxic. So it started to feel like I was working in a steam bath. I had to sop working and walked around to see if there was a fire going on somewhere 🙂 The cause to this was most likely that they had opened up a huge door and the cold air outside must have reached the sensors. Cold sensors mean they send signals to make it warmer in the paintbox and there ai was sweating like a pig 🙂
The first thing I hear when I came back to my usual work place is that we’ve had a fire in the big oven at work, around noon! It wasn’t a big one and they could easily put it out with a normal extinguisher. The other painter at work, he works at a smaller paintbox with its own oven, noticed that there was unusual much smoke up by the roof and since he hadn’t let out any smoke in the department he walked to the big oven and looked in to it, good thing he did 🙂 It turns out one of the heaters had become way too hot and broken down. Normally that just means it stops but not today.
The heater was easily swapped to a new one and they have now cleaned the oven so we can start working as usual tomorrow morning. Exiting things liuke that never happens when I’m around 🙂 It is easy to joke about it, that’s one way to sort of keep that bad thoughts about what could have happened if things gone wrong. I am very happy things like this rarely happens at all.
It is time to make something to eat and I think I’ll have cocoa today.
Have a greta day!
The day has been a perfect springwinter day. The night was pretty chilly and they day has been sunny and reasonable warm. The weak wind has done a good job making it feel much colder though so I’ve tried to stay out of reach for it most of the time. One good thing in springwinter is that the mud still is deep frozen during the warmer days so we are always pretty clean after our walks.
Yesterday on my way home I thought I saw a crane but believed I must have seen wrong but the news says I did see right 🙂 It seems all birds now think spring has sprung and not far north from here several thousand trumpet swans are resting by a lake, still not a record number but chances are big they will break it. The first Doves have arrived to the village too, it looked like it was the Stock dove (Columba oenas, here in Sweden we call it Forest dove) and not the bigger Common wood-pigeon (Columba palumbus, here we call it Ring dove since it has a white ring around its neck). I could also hear and see the first Common Buzzard.
I don’t trust the birds though, they’ve been very wrong so many times before. Some weather institute is predicting a very warm spring here and I think it is the one that predicted that we were going to get a nasty cold winter this time 🙂 🙂 🙂 So I guess it’s best to make sure I have plenty of fire logs and wood prepared because they always seems to get it wrong 🙂 I wouldn’t complain if they were right for once and that we’ll ge a dry spring too, so all fly larvae (the biting and blood sucking ones), mosquito larvae and ticks we still have around will die. I just saw the first flies warming up on my south heading wall, even though they don’t bite I do wish the birds will take them all 🙂
I should have sown the first tomato plants now but I didn’t remember it until today and now I can’t remember where I put all the different seeds I have 🙂 A good thing with tomato seeds is that they seems to last forever, they just take slightly longer to germinate if they are several years old. Last year was a really good tomato year and that was still a rather crappy summer here, so I’m hoping for a warm spring and a really warm summer this year. I’m also waiting for the potatoes I’ve ordered, I’ve gotten the bill via e-mail but no signs of any potatoes yet.
I´ts time to take another walk with the dogs before they’ll have their dinner and the :sun will go down. Today the sun went up at 7:08 and it will go down at 5:30 this afternoon. The sun now stays up between 4 to 6 minutes longer every day now 🙂
Have a great day!
It is -10C (14F) and it will continue to drop they say, as it is now they predict that it will fall down to -13C (8,6F) and they usually show a few degrees warmer than it will be. I live in a cold spot so my guess is that it will fall a few degrees more before it stops. Guess if I’m glad that tomorrow is a holiday here and that I won’t need to scrape any car windows in the early morning 🙂
They had predicted above 0C (32F) for the weekend and rain but now all weather services predict below that and lots of snow instead. If I understand things right we might get up to 35cm (14 inches) of the white garbage so I can’t even pretend I won’t mind 🙂 I do mind and a lot too to be honest. Well at least the icy road will be covered with so much snow that I won’t risk slipping when walking on it 🙂
I nailed a woolen carpet in the dog house opening with big nails and hoped the dogs would let it sit where it was, I have a radiator in the dog house and don’t want it to work too hard unnecessary. Of course they didn’t let it hang there. Instead they pulled it out to the dog yard and I think it is Sune who has used it as a sleeping mat 🙂 He had one of my old sweaters for that before but as soon as the carpet was dragged outside he brought the old sweater back in to the dog house 🙂
Nova has an old carpet that looks like a Persian carpet and that one is now in the garage 🙂 It is very thick and isolates really good towards the cold floor. I just wish they rather had stayed in the warm dog house 🙂 I have no idea why she loves to stay in the garage (well it is now days more like a storage area since I can’t have any car in there, mice tend to eat all the cables in the engine room 🙂 ). She has dug a hole that will let her in but for some reason she get stuck if she tries to go back outside again, still she walks in there every day and waits for me there 🙂
It is time for something to eat and naturally I’ll have hot cocoa, after all we do have winter now 🙂
Have a great day!
It has just stopped to snow. It snowed for at least 30 hours and still very little can be seen on the ground 🙂 That’s the only kind of snow fall I actually like 🙂 We’ve had a steady eastern wind since a few days back and it will continue to come from east or north-east until at least next weekend. Winds from east or north-east in winter always means cold weather. There’s strangely enough no frost on the trees but I guess it is the wind that stops it from forming.
One good thing with that is that my car windows are ice-free and it will most likely stay that way so I won’t need to scrape any car windows tomorrow morning when I’ll drive to work again. I can’t pretend I long to start working but what am I supposed to do when the lottery gods don’t help me 🙂 At least it is a short working week, it is a holiday (The Epiphany or Three King’s Day) so no work then and on Friday I’ll have my medical examination because I work with an extremely toxic paint sometimes. I do this every second year and I’m not worried the least since I wear the best protection there is.
Since I stop working at noon on Fridays there’s really no idea for me to go to work that day, I would arrive at work just at the time I would have to go Falköping for the medical and I would arrive back at work just in time for our weekly meeting and then I would stop working for the day 🙂 They have moved the health center since I was there the last time so I better remember to ask where it is placed now 🙂 I know it is in Falköping but that’s it.
I didn’t bring any digital camera this morning either, only the old Zeiss so You’ll see older photos today. We walked down to the little lake on the other side of the village and I could see that it had frozen. Lots of swans were flying above us to the big lake where there’s still open water but of course none could be seen around the little lake. It was a very nice walk where the wind didn’t reach us and I hope the photos will turn out as good as I hope but it was a bit dark to be honest so I’m not sure.
It is time to give all the animals their food and I think I’ll make myself some too. I’ve done all my chores, like the laundry and I’ve fed the birds outside but no deer had been here during the night. I will keep on putting out food because sooner or later they will turn up. The fire is burning in the stove and has all day so my cottage is warm and nice.
Have a great day!
According to the weather prediction we’re having a semi sunny weather right now with gusts up to 11m/s (24,6 mph). What we actually is having is cloudy with snowfall and a steady wind which most likely can be around those numbers 🙂 They have got the temperature right though, around -4C (24,8F) and I guess we can’t hope for a better prediction than that 🙂
We just went for a short walk and not even the dogs seemed to like it especially much. I normally let them decide where to go and today they turned home pretty early. I didn’t even bring a camera just because everything is so grey and dull and to stop for just a few seconds to take a photo would just make me feel cold even if I had lots of clothes on.
We will of course take more walks today but I think we should walk in the forest just to stay away from the wind as much as possible. Mostly however we’ll stay indoors and I’ll keep the fire burning in the wooden stove. I think I’ll make lots of cocoa, I got a delicious mix from Joyce in my christmas present which I liked a lot. I don’t think there’s anything worth watching on tv so book reading it will be and perhaps a small nap too 🙂
I’ve filled the bird feeders, put up a small carpet where the opening to the dog house is and started the radiator so it will be warm and nice on Monday when I’ll go to work. I used big nails so that it will be hard for the dogs to tear it away. They will eventually do that anyway but I have at least tried my best 🙂 Later in the afternoon I’ll put out some deer food too, the snow has an icy crust which can be hard for the small deers to get rid of to reach the grass beneath. That usually means they’ll come to our gardens instead.
It is time to start making that cocoa I think!
Have a great day!
