Plant swapping day.

It wasn’t that bad to be honest.

I slept longer than usual this morning, not especially long to be honest bt my alarm woke me up at 5 am, normally I wake up around 4:20 am. If I had woken up as I usually do You would have seen lots of heavy fog photos today πŸ™‚ It stayed even long after the sun had risenΒ and there was still lots left when I drove to work. I bet I’ll wake up as usual tomorrow but there will of course be no fog around πŸ™‚

The only way to see what kind of blue wing it is, is to look at the outside of the wings and those dots.

This is a female one and she's less colorful. She is so much more important than the male because after all she's the one sthat will lay all the eggs and it doesn't matter if there are fewer males than females since a male can go to several females.

It wasn’t that bad to go back to work as I feared, it wasn’t fun but not especially bad either. Everything started up as it should, after resetting everything since thunder had made everything go in to emergency stop, it always does because thunder can destroy anything that works on electricity even if it already is shut down. We still have some problems from when the lightning hit close to the factory some months ago. Normally there’s always something that doesn’t work after our vacation so it feels a bit odd that everything worked this time πŸ™‚

The weather has of course been just wonderful today and it will be much the same tomorrow they say, I’m not surprised because it’s always like that when I’m back to work πŸ™‚ Time did go a bit slow for a while though and we all now have aching feet again and my shoulder is back to its painful self again πŸ™‚ I must remember to use my left hand and arm more again.

I didn't take as amny photographs as I usually do because of the rain.

I went to the plant swapping day yesterday and it had been rather nice weather here in the village but I could see how showers passed over the place where I was going to. But the sun shone when I arrived and it looked like it would stay that way when it suddenly started to rain. Just drizzle at the beginning but it soon turned to worse πŸ™‚ But just as the plant swapping was about to start the sun broke through and it stayed that way until I drove home again. It hadn’t rained at all here at home πŸ™‚

It is time to make something little to eat and after that I’ll go outside to enjoy the weather for a while. The flies seems to like this weather too because very few thought it was time well spent to annoy me today πŸ™‚

So no one of You dared to guess :-)

Β It seems to be a mushroom year now.

It seems to be a mushroom year now.

I think we had thunder just a few minutes ago, hard to say really because it sounded like a car with a trailer passing by but the sound came from the wrong direction, not the road but the fields on the other side of my cottage. The rain comes and goes all the time, no big amounts but enough to make one want to stay indoors, even the dogs rather stay inside and sleep instead.

Lots of Finger mushrooms in the forest now.

I always hope that I will see an animal walking by when I look down this old road, I rarely do. Once I saw a tiny stoat in the snow though.

More and more birds are flying south now, I hear the cranes and the geese early in the morning when they fly away from here and no small birds are singing any longer. The katydids still sit in the trees playing their songs in the afternoons and evenings. It is still summer though and some birds are feeding their third bunch of young ones now. My tomatoes are slowly changing color now πŸ™‚ Some are sort of green-yellowish now πŸ™‚

Here are the plants I brought home from the plant swapping day. Chleone obliqua.

Aster divaricatus, Wood aster (same name in Swedish). This one is something I've been looking after for a long time.

Astilbe chinensis var. pumila. This one is very low. I also got the big one with me home. I've become more and more fon of astilbe.

So no one of You dared to guess what those words in Swedish-Englishish meant πŸ™‚ Well the wine vine was easy ( and the grapes themselves are called wine grapes) but the clean is very tricky πŸ™‚ Clean and reindeer has the same word in Swedish so I meant a reindeer. The raw animal, that one is a tricky one πŸ™‚ Raw means just the same in swedish and animal is the same too but combined they get a totally different meaning, so a raw animal is a rΓ₯djur which is the same as roe deer πŸ™‚ A road clean is no animal, in Swedish it’s vΓ€gren which is the same as roadside.Β

Here we have an unknown clematis seedling, self sown this year. A Ruta graveloens (I think, I forgot to check the name tag :-) ) and a variegated Siberian Dogwood. All plants for the garden that I brought home are very hardy so very little risk of loosing any of them during our winter.

This is a pelargonium (English speaking people usually calls them geraniums though). This one has a strong scent if one touches the leafs but it's really nice if one just brush them while passing by.

This one is new to me, Plectrantus amboinicus. It can be used when cooking, especially to fish they say. It's sort of oreganolike in the smell but with perhaps a touch of lemon in the smell.

The really tough one was the buttock and east butter goose πŸ™‚ I often write about my butter geese here and what kind of onlays I have on them πŸ™‚ So lets start with the buttock, that’s actually ham πŸ™‚ sort of fits don’t You think πŸ™‚ East means the same thing here and is usually spelled with our letter ΓΆ so in Swedish east is ΓΆst BUT east can also be spelled ost. We usually use the word ost when we talk about from what direction the wind blows for instance. I’m not sure why we still use ost as a direction though, it might be something they used to use in the navy. Ost however is also the same thing as cheese πŸ™‚

Then we come to the butter goose. We say smΓΆrgΓ₯s when we are talking about sandwiches and one part of the name is smΓΆr which is butter and the other part, gΓ₯s, is goose πŸ™‚ So what I wrote meant a ham and cheese sandwich πŸ™‚ Nopw You say, what’s onlays then? You say cold cuts or sandwich spreads, we say pΓ₯lΓ€gg wich when dividing it in to two words in on and lay, onlay πŸ™‚ Soo easy πŸ™‚

Sometime alike, sometimes very different.

A few last photos from last Sunday.

A few last photos from last Sunday.

If this had been spring I most likely would say that it’s so nice outdoors so I’ll have the kitchen door open all evening. Now I say it’s a bit chilly outdoors so I think I’ll close the door as soon as Sune and Nova comes in after playing in the garden. It feels a bit like autumn but I doubt that autumn has arrived already, it is a bit too early even for us here in the north. I will most likely say that after the first week in September when the first night frost have been here.

All windows are now closed again and I have even turned on the radiator in the bathroom. I put on a fleece sweater as soon as I get up in the morning and am fast on getting that pot of hot tea ready as soon as I’m down in the kitchen. The nights aren’t any more chilly, it’s the days that are a bit colder instead. So I really don’t notice much change when we’re out walking before I get to work. Well the sun goes up much later so it is hard to get a sunrise photo now.

From now on it's a mix from this week.

I could see thunder clouds when we were out walking and the few flies that still are around were insane and wouldn’t leave us alone for a second. But the clouds flew away so I guess it will stay calm for the rest of the evening. They say we might get it tomorrow though. The one that lives will see as we say over here.

I came to think of words that can be the same (with perhaps a bit different spelling) or very different when it comers to English and swedish. Come for instance is kom in Swedish. High is hΓΆg, cocoa is cacao, coffee is kaffe, school is skola and beaver is bΓ€ver. Rather like wouldn’t You say. I had lots of fun thinking about to translate some words precisely as we say them to English and had rather fun for a while. You all know about troll spindle being dragonfly, Butterfly is called FjΓ€ril in Swedish and if I would make it a ( two) word(s) in English it could be butte il (I’ve checked, there are words like that in English πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ ).

The auto correct is screaming here at the moment πŸ™‚ So I thought I would write a few words and let You guess what I mean πŸ™‚ A buttock and east butter goose, a raw animal, a clean, a road clean and a very easy one a wine vine.

It’s old and tired.

A Damsel fly.

A Damsel fly.

We have thunder right now but it is an old tired thunder that just sort of farts every now and again just because it feel it has to do something. If not for any other reason than to show it exists. Not like the young energetic ones we had when lots of things blew up here in the village πŸ™‚ I barely managed to get home and indoors here at home after work before the rain started. Not even the rain seems to have any energy, it just falls straight down and is more like heavy drizzle than a real shower. I placed my orchids on the entrance stairs, they liked it so much the last time that they now actually looks like they will survive another year.

I won 3 dollars on the lottery last week πŸ™‚ I had hoped for the big win that now is around 159 million kronor. Divide that with 6,5 and You’ll get it in US dollars. Well one should never spit on any winning so I bought myself an ice cream for the money πŸ™‚ It was a soft ice cream so it was a bit tricky to drive and eat it at the same time, they have a tendency to start melting fast and I didn’t want any ice cream in my lap πŸ™‚

I think I’ve made too little dinner for this week. I always make enough for one week when I eat dinner at work and this time it looks like I won’t have enough for Thursday as well (I stop working so early on Fridays that I don’t eat any dinner there). This week it was lamb, something we call lammskav and I just couldn’t find the right english word for it without making it sound like an injury πŸ™‚ I think it’s minced lamb or very thin slices of lamb and they are frozen in a block. It should just have defrosted half way when one is about to cook it. I then break pieces out of this block and while frying it it divides into small slices if You can understand how I mean, looks like bigger or smaller flakes.

Those flakes really suck up the spices and I usually fry lots of vegetables and mushrooms too and at the end I make a stew of it. Goes perfect with rice, potatoes or pasta. Next week I think I’ll have moose made in much the same way. It’s the lazy mans way of making real food but very fast :-)It’s time to make a pot of tea and something to eat as well.Β

The annual plant swapping day was yesterday, well my annual anyway because I never miss this one but there are several plant swapping days all over the country all summer to be honest. This one is almost just on the other side of the bog but the distance driving there is more than twice than if I could have driven straight across the bog πŸ™‚ We had the weather god with us this year, mostly sunshine and warm. Last year it was rather cold that day and the rain poured down πŸ™‚

I will most likely show photos from yesterday both tomorrow and on Thursday too.

For those of You that don’t know what a plant swapping day is, It’s a day when we bring the surplus of what we might have in the garden or what we have sown during winter and spring. Many always believe that just because many of us are a bit advanced in gardening it means we only bring rarities with us but it’s far from the truth. What can be weed for one person can be a treasure for someone else, it all depends on what kind of conditions it is where one live. Here for instance Aaron rods are weeds and something I toss by the hundreds some years, others might barely get them to survive in their gardens.

They show their garden to any people every summer and unlike many that have this well kept gardens they're not afraid of bright colors, something I really like. They are well known for all their day lilies, I think they have over three hundred different varieties.

Normally all of us bring home more plants than we had when we came there πŸ™‚ We have no idea what so ever how that can be πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ but this year I actually managed to have some character and brought home slightly fewer plants than I brought with me. There were however a few people who first didn’t want to participate in it because they didn’t bring any plants with them. We had to sound a bit threatening until they realised that we don’t care about petty things like that and we wouldn’t let them go until they had plenty with them home πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

By plant swapping I don’t mean that I say to someone that You can have these plants if I can have that one, no it’s a sort of lottery. All plants are placed so we all can see them (and naturally we all tell what we brought with us) Then we all draw a number and usually it’s the one with the number one that starts. I got number one yesterday and had one plants I wanted to take before anyone else. Naturally the lady that held this day then decided that number eight would start πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ But I got that plant anyway πŸ™‚ I’ll show You later what I brought home yesterday.Β

I always get some kitten photos too when I’m there, this year they had 13 kittens πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ and they always find good homes for them. I didn’t see more than four myself though, some were outside hiding and some were in the bathroom because they were just a few weeks old. I have to admit that if I didn’t already have two cats I would see to it that I got one of these with me home πŸ™‚ It’s time for a pot of tea and something to eat now, I haven’t had anything since 2pm today.
