We’re just about to break 31C (87,8F) and I’m so glad I’m not at work πŸ™‚ It is very different to take the heat here at home when the humidity is as low as it is (22%) than it ia at work where the huge washing machine just vomits out steam and the temperature is even higher πŸ™‚ I didn’t stay long at work though, I left already at 10am today.

I had an appointment at my optician at 11:10 and it takes a while to drive. To my very big luck they called for me much earlier than my appointment so I left before I should have been there πŸ™‚ My eyes have changed very little and they said I really didn’t need new glasses for that reason but I thought it best anyway. The powder paint is like sand and every time I clean them they make tiny scratches in the hardened plastic as I think they make almost all glasses from now days.

It wasn’t until I was driving homewards I realised that all schools have their last day today, I saw carriages where students already had gathered around and they were just about to be driven around the town. Must be pretty adventures since FalkΓΆping is all hills and slopes πŸ™‚ I got out just in time before it all started, on,y god knows how long it would have taken if I had gotten caught in that traffic πŸ™‚

The water lever is really low now.

I stopped by the grocery store in Gudhem on my way home and the owner gave me a small Tamarind tree. I’ve always wanted to sow one myself but one never knows how well those seeds germinate. She had sown this one six months ago and I think I’ll have a good chance on keeping it alive. No bigger problems if we’ll get a warm summer but the indoors air is usually too dry for most plants growing in hotter regions and we just have too little daylight during winter but I’ll do what I can.

DSC_0036 (1)

I bought two ginger roots which were organically grown and I’ll plant one and place it outdoors all summer, the other one I’ll eat πŸ™‚ I also bought two small Fuchsia plants and hope I’ll be able to keep them happy on the north side of my cottage. Fuchsia’s grow best on chilly and rainy summers but even if I really would like to see these growing big I still rather have a warm and sunny πŸ™‚

This is the last day with this kind of heat, tomorrow will be much cooler but still summer warm. Now it is time to give us all something to eat and after that I’ll slowly melt away somewhere where there’s no sunshine πŸ™‚

Early this morning. This is the time of year when the sun shines through my tiny bathroom window when it goes up and again when it goes down in the evening πŸ™‚

Sorry about not writing anything here and today will be short too, it is so hot that my brain is fried πŸ™‚ It is even worse at my work place, today we placed a thermometer where I work and stopped measuring when it reached 35,8C (96,4F). It would most likely have gone higher but that was depressing enough πŸ™‚

I’ve stopped checking how much water I’ve been drinking but it is a lot and what goes in must come out πŸ™‚ So big parts of the day we have been running to and from the toilet πŸ™‚

It is so dry here now that we don’t get any morning dew. I don’t mind because that also means the lawn doesn’t grow now πŸ™‚

We do take very short walks after work but instead the dogs wake me up so early, today for instance Nova decided that it was a good idea to stand on my waist with all four feet πŸ™‚ well she got what she wanted πŸ™‚ , that we have been taking long walks while it still is just below 20C (68F). The flies are more calm then too.

Tomorrow will be even warmer but I’ll go to the optician so I’ll stop working at 10 am πŸ™‚ The heat is quite ok outdoors but it is a pain in the a.. at work πŸ™‚

We started our walk just as early today as we did yesterday but instead of going to the lake in the bog we walked to the lake in the forest. I thought it must have thawed that much so I would be able to see open water and perhaps some cranes too. The open water guess was right but there wasn’t a single crane there this morning, instead I saw three Mallards. I did manage to photograph them but to be honest, they are so tiny in the photo that it is hard to say whether they are birds or branches floating in the water πŸ™‚

I didn’t put on a sweater to have beneath the jacket which I was very happy that I didn’t. It was below freezing when we started but the sun warmed up so good that it would have been too hot after just a short while. We came home after an hour and a half but the weather was just too good so we only had something to eat before we headed out again. We walked out on the bog where we usually walk and even if it was rather warm already then the bog was just enough frozen to carry me most of the time.

The cranes out there could easily be heard and I didn’t want to disturb them so I kept our distance all the time. Unfortunately I could hear the cars going to the big lake the whole time, I guess there are more people than cranes there now. Yesterday they counted 3800 cranes and by the sound of the traffic there must have been more than three times the amount of humans πŸ™‚ I’ll go there next week instead so I can take a few photos to show You. I think I’ll go there early on Good Friday perhaps even before the people in the caravans go outside and it will be easier to get a parking space too if I go early.

They put up parking meters everywhere around the lake this time of year and the money goes to feeding all the birds. 25 000 cranes and I don’t know how many geese, swans and ducks there are sure eats a lot πŸ™‚ so we all pay the fee without complaining. As soon as the cranes have moved north (these flies to Norway) the meters are gone again packed away to get used next year again. I better make sure I have enough with coins, it costs around 20 Swedish kronor (around $ 2,2 US) to park an entire day there.

I just did the last of the laundry when we came home and then we went out again. This walk was however a bit shorter and only took half an hour. I just checked the thermometer and it is 11C (51,8F) outside right now, not bad considering the predictions were much lower. The snowdrops are still the only flowers in bloom but the lungwort will open up any day now if it stays above freezing during the day. Also both Scilla and tulips have started to show above the ground now. I planted the Shagbark nuts I’ve had in the refrigerator all winter in pots and placed them outside by the north heading wall so no sunlight can reach the pots. They all look just fine so I hope that at least some will germinate. The black walnut has survived the winter without any damages at all, it is now six or seven years old and perhaps 1,2 meters high (around 6,3 feet).

We’ve had a rather nice day here, at least until around 1pm when the clouds finally put an end to the sun shining. It is still quite warm though and if one can stay out of winds range it still is quite nice out there. Rain will arrive in a few hours though and it will rain on and off the coming days.

The birds seem to think spring has sprung, the different Tits have sung for over a week now but today the Woodpeckers started too. I think it was the Green Woodpecker but it could have been the Black Woodpecker too. No drumroll from them yet though, I guess they won’t start with that until the days are much longer. I even saw what I think was spider webs this morning and I do hope the spiders will survive if the temperature drops drastically again.

The Swedish heats of the Eurovision Song Contest started yesterday and I have to say that the quality was as low as always πŸ™‚ They put in one or two songs that we all know will go on to the big finale and the rest is just crap which they use to fill the program πŸ™‚ This time they actually had a few singers who didn’t sing desperately out of tune πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ This competition is a rather expensive thing to do and we did win the big finale last year so we’ll host it this year. I guess they do what they can to make sure we won’t win this year too πŸ™‚

The snow that fell yesterday night is still lying on the ground. Today was sunny and chilly but tonight will be cold. The sky is clear and the temperature has already fallen to -4C (24,8F). All weather sites predict warmer weather already tomorrow evening and later on rain too, so the snow won’t stay for long. I would actually preferred that this colder weather had stayed for a while, everything will be so muddy when the snow melts and the rain falls again.

Every year when winter arrives people get surprised! How on earth can they be surprised, after al we’ve had winters here since long before the ice age πŸ™‚ So naturally there were lots of car crashes all day today. Lots of people have non studded tires and believes that they can drive with those as if it still was summer, I guess they now learned that they can’t. It was slippery even for us who have studded tires so I drove rather slowly to work this morning too.

I was looking up at the sky now when we were out walking after work, the dogs and I. It is amazing how many more stars I can see out there than I can here by my cottage. I looked up and realised that we up here in the north must be looking out towards the outer edges of our galaxy, I mean we really can’t look towards the center of it because I’m pretty sure the sky would have been filled with even more stars. So can we look towards the center of our galaxy here on earth? I wonder where that would be if we can.

We didn’t have frost or fog this morning, they finally got it right with the weather prediction πŸ™‚ It was so nice to not have to scrape the car windows and to actually be able to see the road I was driving on πŸ™‚ The big road (the one You could see photos from here in an earlier post) was almost totally empty and the car behaved as it should, I got this feeling of harmony and the feeling of that nothing can go wrong, so I was thinking that I could just go on driving until I had no more petrol in my car and then just keep going until the ocean would stop me.

But I knew that those feelings soon would disappear when I came to a cross-road some miles away and then it would all go back to normal anyway. So I turned where I was supposed to and drove to work. It wasn’t too bad to work either to be honest and the day passed rather quickly. I’ll be working in the neighbor factory tomorrow and on Thursday so those days will pass fast too even if I’ll be painting really big things that weighs around 500kg ( over 1100 pounds) hanging in the air and really heavy to move even if I have the right equipment.

Have a great day!

I did see the Blood Moon.

My car will be at the garage tomorrow to get a few things fixed before the annual vehicle inspection on Wednesday. Nothing big so I didn’t expect any expensive bill to pay but then! I had just started to back out my car from my parking space when it suddenly had no power at all, the engine just died. So I started it again and it seemed to work fine when I slowly started to drive forward.

I got a visit from a little Robin yesterday.
I got a visit from a little Robin yesterday.

Once again it had no power to speak about, it sort of jumped forward and it smelled really strange. I thought that there was no use in stopping and feel sorry for myself so I forced it forward and for about 100 meters (much the same in yards) it didn’t work well at all and it smelled even stranger. Then suddenly it went back to normal and worked like a clock all the way home??!!

Salmiak wasn't happy to see us :-)
Salmiak wasn’t happy to see us πŸ™‚

I’ve called the garage so if it doesn’t work tomorrow they’ll come and get me. The garage owner thought that it might be the turbo that broke down but then there should be lots of dark smoke coming out the exhaust pipe and the car shouldn’t work as a clock at any time after that. I know he was speaking about a sensor the last time the car behaved strange, it wasn’t that sensor that time (it was another sensor) so perhaps it is that one this time. I’ll know tomorrow what it was.

I slept for almost four hours last night! πŸ™‚ I know it was almost exactly four hours because I woke up because I coughed so badly just before 1am, I went downstairs drank some water, took a photo of the not yet blood moon and went back to sleep and didn’t wake up until the alarm started at 5am I went out just in time to see the blood moon and tried to take a photo but it was so dark that I would have needed to use the tripod and that was just too much work πŸ™‚

It is time to make some food and I’ll also have a table-spoon of absolutely fresh honey, the beekeeper just gave me a jar πŸ™‚ This year it is a much milder honey, the one he got last year was a tiny bit bitter.

And four Minolta photos.

Have a great day!

The winter jacket.

Not the blood moon but we'll most likely have clouds covering the sky when that happens.
Not the blood moon but we’ll most likely have clouds covering the sky when that happens.

I thought last night would be rather cough free and it started out that way. I think I slept almost three hours without coughing but then it started. It was a horrible night and I really hope this was the turning point because I don’t think I’ll survive another night like that. I fell asleep in front of the tv now this morning, I slept for almost an hour without coughing but I couldn’t feel my right arm when I woke up, it took almost half an hour to get the circulation in the arm going again πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We had frost here in the early morning but I thought it would be much worse than it was because the temperature fell rather quickly already last evening. I did find my winter jacket though because it did feel way to cold to just wear a fleece jacket. I do hope I won’t have to wear it for quite some time more, even if it was really warm and nice. I don’t feel that I’m ready for cold winter days yet.

It was rather nice outside but the cold dry air did make me cough some more so there was no chance of seeing any wild hogs today, they could hear me from miles away πŸ™‚ In fact I was the only thing that could be heard at all this morning, no cars, birds or other animals made a sound, I guess the cold air made most animals to just sit still Β trying to stay warm until the sun would reach them. It wasn’t until we had arrived here at home that I could hear a few flocks of geese flying south.

Today I’ll do very little, I’ll rest and that’s it. Ok I’ll take a few walks with the dogs but that’s just relaxing. I won’t talk much because I really have no voice left today and it just hurts too much anyway. I will also make myself some waffles, too long since I had that πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

So nice, it is chilly and foggy.

I woke up in the middle of the night because my throat hurt so badly and I didn’t even try to swallow anything, it just ached so badly. It still aches but not nearly close to what it was like in the middle of the night. It does however feel like my lungs will fall of every time I cough πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ I have no fever though and I guess and hope that’s a good sign.

You can see a sheep in this photo if You look closely. To the far right, just beside a fence pole You can see a dark spot πŸ™‚

We’re having a rather nice morning here, it started with heavy fog and it is still quite foggy but the sun does its best to wipe it away. So far it isn’t especially successful though πŸ™‚ It is still quite chilly, I thought we might get frost during the night but that never happened. There’s very little flies left so I don’t mind that the frost never arrived, especially since we got this wonderfully foggy morning.

We started our walk by walking in to the village, the fog was so think that it didn’t matter that I now have autofocus to rely on, the camera couldn’t find anything to focus on πŸ™‚ I also brought the old Rolleicord, it is loaded with black and white film and I wondered how good the fog will show in those photos. I did try to photograph a spider web with the old one but the entire camera was so fogged up that I’m not sure I focused on the web or anything else πŸ™‚ I still have two photos to take on that roll so it’ll take some time until, we can see the results.

We turned down to the fields when we were almost at home again, as long as Orvar and Hector still were around I didn’t dare going for too long since I never knew if they would make it all the way home but both Nova and Sune needs to run around more than they have lately (and to be honest, I need it a lot too πŸ™‚ ). Just as we turned down to the fields lots of hunters came and I wonder why. It isn’t moose hunting season yet and I thought for a while that it might be a hunt for wild hogs but I could only see a tiny Beagle and I doubt they’ll use that for wild hog. That little dog would just be a nice breakfast for them.

Still, I am Β bit confused that they all came here since it is so foggy even in the forest, they can’t see a thing. The sun is losing the battle against the fog too at the moment, it looks like it is getting thicker again. I don’t mind, that would only mean I’ll get a chance to get more foggy photos later today πŸ™‚ The cold air did also help with my throat and lungs so I hope we’ll have this weather all day long.

It is time to make a big pot of tea and I’ll put all the ginger I have at home in it, I don’t have that much ginger at home so I’m hoping to shock the system with it all at the same time πŸ™‚

Have a great day!

Waiting by the door.

I want to thank You all for the kind comments in the previous post!

The day has an ominous feeling to it, You know the kind the people in disaster films always have before it all happens but they ignore until it is too late. The weather is unsettled, winds pretty strong and it’s only possible to see that the sun shines through edgy rips in the clouds.Β

This moth looks just liie a dried up Birch leaf. I wondered why so many leafs already had dried up and why they looked to be stuck to my windows :-)
This moth looks just like a dried up Birch leaf. I wondered why so many leafs already had dried up and why they looked to be stuck to my windows πŸ™‚

I doubt any disaster will happen though, I can also feel like this just before I get a stomach flu and I think that’s more likely to be the reason πŸ™‚ But isn’t it typical, we’ve had really nice weather all week, sunny warm days and chilly clear nights but as soon as the weekend starts so does the bad weather. I have to admit that it hasn’t rained but still, would it be so awful if we actually had some sunshine during the weekends too?

The rest of the photos today will come from my analog cameras, the Minolta's and the Rolleicord.
The rest of the photos today will come from my analog cameras, the Minolta’s and the Rolleicord. These photos are just scanned from the negatives and perhaps a bit sloppy work sometimes, that’s why You can see black edges here and there.

I’ve done the laundry and it is now hanging on the patio to dry so I have done all chores I was supposed to do. Well the grass isn’t mowed in a long time but I need some sunshine to dry it up before I even try that and there’s no risk of that happening until earliest next weekend. We’ll get lots of rain this coming week, glimpses of sunshine yes but not enough to dry anything up.

So I’ll stay calm as much as possible today, hoping that no stomach flu arrives despite the feeling. Nova will most likely stay close to me all the time and Sune will be staying by the door, waiting for Orvar to return. They were best of friends and were never far away from each other. Bertil also stays close to me now, he looked at Orvar as if he was his brother and is worried that he isn’t showing up. But life goes on and hopefully it will take at least ten years until I have to say goodbye to any of them again.

Never far away from each other.
Never far away from each other.

Have a great day!
