Last post here, tomorrow I’ll be at the new place!
I didn’t wake up even once during the night ๐ One could therefore presume that I would be fully rested but that would be too good wouldn’t it ๐ I do however feel much better now so with a little luck I’ll be fine this last working week before my vacation starts. This will be one of the longest weeks in the year as it is even without this nasty cold hanging around.
The morning was truly wonderful, 8C (46,4F), sunshine and a weak breeze keeping those few flies, that was thinking of annoying me, hiding in the bushes. Very few birds sing now, to be honest I think I only heard one or perhaps two. Could have been the same bird just moving a bit. We walked in to the village, it’s been a while since we did that and it looked like it always does ๐ I was enjoying the morning so much that I mostly forgot to take any photos ๐ Still I took plenty yesterday so no shortage of photos today.
We barely made it home until the first clouds arrived and the weak breeze became much stronger. It is still rather nice outside but the wind is a bit too strong to have the kitchen door open. Thunder and showers are predicted to arrive around noonish but the weather will be rather pleasant both before and after it has passed. Most important is that the humidity won’t be sky-high any time today.
Do You remember that I bought ten Dahlia’s for almost nothing at all because they had passed their best before selling date? I soaked them in luke warm water for 24 hours and then planted them in pots. I now have eleven since one root fell in to pieces so I got several plants from that one. The problem was that I didn’t know where to put them when they started to grow but the cats helped me with that ๐ Do You remember that I sowed melon seeds? I planted those in a big wooden box and the cats found the brown soil to be rather pleasant to sleep on and while doing that they also killed the melon plants ๐
I know have planted some of the Dahlia’s in that box and put up sticks here and there so tha cats won’t use it again ๐ I also planted the rest in my old wheelbarrow, another place the cats slept and killed the plants. If You plants Dahlia roots and it only gives one stalk per root it’s possible to get many flowers anyway. Just cut off the top of the stalk above a pair of leafs and it will start to produce new branches which will give plenty of flowers, somewhat smaller perhaps but lots of them.
One can also take cuttings and plant those to get more plants and they’ll all give new roots that You can plant next summer. Many believe that if one sows Dahlia seeds those won’t be able to survive a winter to be planted the next year but that’s wrong, they’ll be just as good as the ones one buy or perhaps even better. Very few Dahlia species are hardy enough to survive in the more northern hemisphere though so they must be storedย in a cool but frost-free space during our winters in buckets with moist sand or soil.
I think it is time to take another walk with the dogs before the rain arrives. The wind is so strong now that I won’t get annoyed by any flies ๐
Hi Christer,
All this time I thought we were already over at the new place. ๐
That cow has a great set of horns. Like a Brahma cow.
How lucky the doe listened to you and stood to have her portrait done. ๐ Great action shots of her leaping away, too.
I have lots of buttercups and celandine in my yard, too. Does that mean I won’t be able to grow poppies, either? ๐ Poppies are something I want to have in the yard. Hollyhocks are another one. It seems I only remember that I want them when I see them blooming in someone else’s yard and by then it’s too late.
Today is glorious. It’s heading for the low 80’s Fahrenheit and it’s sunny and dry with cooling breeze. Another perfect summer day. The high heat and humidity are headed this way for later in the week.
Enjoy the day.

Hi Caryn!
๐ ๐ ๐
I’m so glad she was so polite that she allowed me to adjust the camera ๐ It looks like she’s fleeing but the grass is so high that she had to jump to go anywhere.
No that doesn’t mean You can’t have poppies or holyhocks. Holyhocks are usually plants that flowers the second year so if You sow them now they’ll flower next summer or if You buy plants without flower stalks of course. I think I’ll buy poppy seeds this late summer or early autumn and sow them the day I get them. In nature that’sthe time they let go of their seeds so it’s probably the best time to sow them as well.
We did get some rain but the thunder missed us again. It is just enough warm now so our afternoon walk was really nice, even the flies mostly left us alone. We walked in to a fox that didn’t see any of the dogs until it was just a few yards away from them, they are amazingly fast when they get scared ๐
Have a great day!
Christer.

See, I have to remember ahead of time and that’s the hard part when it comes to plants. When you sow your poppies, remind me. ๐ I’ll go off now and look for hollyhock seeds. And maybe some New England Aster seeds as wells. ๐

I’ll tell You when it is time ๐ Just make sure You don’t get the annual hollyhocks, they will most likely make it through winter too but there’s always the risk they don’t.
My guess is that the New England Asters need a winter to germinate so You don’t need to sow them until late autumn. They never give any seeds here because they start to flower too late for that.

Hi Christer! All signed up for the new blog! Back from the cottage, dogs are terribly exhausted – takes a toll all the busy playing don’t you know! ๐ We saw 3 bears over the weekend and to be honest that freaked me out just a little. I have never seen a bear since we bought the property in 1977 and in one weekend I see 3!!!!! A few deers as well too. We had a great time, weather was good up until today. Now we have that warm rain that you were having and we are supposed to get storms tonight and into tomorrow. Humidity they are predicting around 35. Yuck. A warm, wet wool blanket kind of day tomorrow. I am glad to hear you slept through the night and hopefully that will continue. Have a good Monday and see you at the other place!

Hi Dianna!
I am a bit jelaous of You! See three bears! but it is wise to stay away from them! Wolves have never killed anyone here (well there was this half tame that escaped from a cirkus in the late 1800’s that killed a little girl) but bears do rather often. They saythat it is important to make lots of noise while being out walking when bears are around, they will walk away long before we even come close they say, just like with wild hogs here.
Rather nice here now, thunder finally arrived today, I could see on the live lightning app in my phone that it hit the bog a few times and the mountain several. Not near the cottage though.
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
You’re all set on Coffee. I posted the new name and address. All your previous blogs are also still listed so people can travel through time if they want.
It’s great to hear your cough is finally leaving You had it an awfully long time. Now you can catch up on all that sleep you missed.
My entire neighborhood must have bought firecrackers. All I can hear are the loud bangs so They are down the end of the street and the street behind me. What’s interesting is everyone of them is illegal. I guess the police are deaf tonight.
Take care! Have a good Monday!

Hi Kat!
Now I’ll only have to fix so that I can comment in other places without getting lots of problems, I usually forget how to do it ๐
Yes nights seems to be cough free now but standing in the hot humid air at work really made me cough badly.
I don’t mind firecrackers myself but it is nice that we don’t have them here, so many animals are scared away when they start. Sometimes I think it is easier to be deaf ๐ I guess they have enough with other crimes as it is.
Happy 4th of July!
Christer.
