The first fire for the season.

DSC_0001

Autumn is definitely here now, the trees are changing colors and some trees have already lost almost all leaves, the days are a bit chilly and I started a fire in the stove for the first time this season. We have a rather persistent wind outside so I thought I might as well try to start a fire with the help of it. Normally I get a back draft the first time after summer so the entire cottage get filled with smoke and the fire alarm starts beeping loudly 🙂 Not today though and I kept the fire alive for two hours and now the cottage is hot as h… 🙂

I baked a couple of scones while I could, it would take too long to bake a bread and the heat would probably driven us out of the cottage for hours 🙂 I could of course have opened the windows and doors but it was nice to push out the last of the dampness and not letting it in again by doing so. Naturally I also put te kettle on so I could make myself a nice pot of coffee 🙂

I’ve started to move in some of my potted plants now, the week when we get our´first night with frost is almost here (next week) and I’ve placed the more hardy ones on my patio, the frost rarely reach in there beneath the roof. I’ve checked the weather forecasts but none of them show any temperatures even close to frost but they tend to miss this little village at the outskirts of the world. But then again, this year has been odd weather-wise, we had very warm summer temperatures in April and May, cold in June, really hot in July and rather cold now in August. It makes me wonder what winter will be like 🙂

It’s time to start making dinner for next week at work, I think I’ll do something easy like tomatosauce with lots of minced meat and spices in it. Too bad the fire in the stove has died out, now I must use the electric stove instead 🙂

Have a great day!

Their season is short but they are truly nasty.

Our weather didn't get much better than thgis today.

Our weather didn’t get much better than this today.

So far the day has been rather nice even though it isn’t especially warm, the sun doesn’t shine through the clouds and we’ve had a few drops of rain. It would even be too much to cal it a drizzle. I haven’t done much to be honest, walked with my dogs and napped for quite some time. It’s a quiet day, I can’t even hear any twittering from the small birds living around my cottage.

DSC_0011

The Moose fly, or Deer fly, season has started and it seems I always bring one home with me. I truly hate them and they are truly nasty. On moose and deers they live like ticks, dropping their wings as soon as they’ve bitten their way in to their skin and it happens they bite humans too. It hurts like hell to be honest and they think they might spread the same diseases as ticks does but they’re not sure about that yet. Luckily for me they usually reject me as a food source but I had a neighbor that constantly got bitten. A deer or moose that gets bitten a lot usually start loosing a lot of fur and that can’t be a good thing.

DSC_0016

DSC_0019

DSC_0023

DSC_0024

But even if they don’t bite me they are creepy! Their legs work look hooks so they are hard to sweep away and even if You hit them hard they just laugh out loud not bothered at all. Sometimes they lose their wings too while we try to get rid of them but that doesn’t bother them since it’s natural for them to lose them when they live like tics. They usually hide in the hair and even if one showers and wash the hair they survive and I don’t know how many times I’ve woken up in the middle of the night feeling how one or two crawls around in my hair!! They haven’t existed that long in this country and they are working their way north in a pretty fast speed.

DSC_0027

Finally they open up! I didn't think I would get a chance to see them flower before the frost came. Too bad we have no butterfies around because I've heard they love these flowers.

But their season is usually short compared to other flies ( a few nights with frost and they are gone and frost comes early to this area 🙂 ) and they only fly around in the forest so the fields are moose fly free. Too bad I love walking in the forest 🙂 There are lots of mushrooms in the forest too so I think I’ll bring a basket with me tomorrow. Lots of mushroom poisoning at the moment too, no one has died so far but it’s bound to happen, it always does. The thing with mushroom poisoning, at least here in Scandinavia, is that one won’t die directly. It actually takes around ten days before one does but it always starts with food poisoning symptoms, really bad stomach and most likely stomach pain too (but to be honest, there are loads of different symptoms depending on what kind of mushroom one has been eating). After that people usually feels better but not good and after around ten days the injuries can be so bad that one won’t survive. Some mushrooms, like the white Toad stool gives no symptoms until the injuries in the body are so bad that You won’t survive. So it’s always best to be sure of what You’re picking.

Jerusalem artichoke, a perennial sunflower and a rather beautiful weed. It's so high that I must look up to the flowers now.

As You know I don’t pay extra to get more tv channels since I feel they mostly just show garbage anyway but right now I do have an extra channel that they send to everyone for free but I don’t know for how long. Yesterday they showed one of my absolute favorite tv series ever, The Vicar of Dibley. It’s a British sitcom about a female priest in the fictional town Dibley somewhere in the Oxford area I think. If You like British humor this is a must, if You don’t I feel sorry for You 🙂 🙂 🙂 Yesterdays program was the Christmas special for 2006 (unfortunately they don’t show it any longer) and I think I laughed the entire hour the program lasted 🙂 I hope I have this channel next Friday too because they’ll show the New Years episode then and it’s a following to what happened in this program. It was so fun to see this show again that I’ve decided to buy the entire series. If you ever see that they’ll send this on a channel You have and You do like British humor do watch it 🙂

We’re having a rather perfect weather today, even though the sun mostly is behind clouds right now it has been shining a lot during the day. I think it has been around 20C (68F) and there’s a weak breeze that tried to dry up bot the ground and grass but with no bigger success. I know because I’ve just mowed the lawn and the grass was dripping wet and it clogged the lawn mower the entire time. It took twice the time to mow my lawn than it usually does but since the weather was so nice and the flies just a bit annoying I actually enjoyed doing it.

I was looking for some fish in the freezer the other day when Orvar was a bit wobbly in his stomach when I suddenly found a ziplock bag with the numbers 03-03 written on them. I had no memory of it at all so I opened it up and to my big surprise I found lots of seeds in it 🙂 I have no idea what so ever to what kind of seeds they are 🙂 I had placed them on a wet paper towel and placed them in the freezer and I’m pretty sure my intention was to pick them out after a short while. I have no idea if they still will germinate but I’ve placed them warm and light so now I only can hope for the best so that at least one seed will germinate and that I at least will know what they are 🙂

I’ll do very little for the rest of the day, that cold I have is still hanging around, not really breaking out but not really leaving me either. So I’m tired and just want to go to bed to be honest but I’ll fight it and stay up for at least a few more hours 🙂 I’m boiling rice for Orvar and it seems to take forever for it to start boiling today, the problem is that when it starts it never seems to want to stop doing it 🙂 I normally make the water start boiling, then I turn of the stove and place some thick handkerchiefs on it. The rice is ready at the same time as it should have if I’ve kept it on the stove but there’s no risk of burning it.

They always manage to trick us.

DSC_0001

Do You remember when I got that laptop for free and they upgraded my internet connection on my mobile phone and it all would be slightly cheaper? and we all wondered how they had tricked me because they always do? Well I finally found out how 🙂 I’m not sure they themselves fully understood how smart they actually were 🙂  Yes the laptop was for free and they did upgrade my mobile phone connection but they connected my laptop internet to the connection I have in my phone making it a bit tricky to understand how much data I actually was using (since we pay for how much data we are allowed to use for a month for a certain price).

DSC_0004

DSC_0007

DSC_0010

DSC_0012

But they did also give me a new phone number which I really didn’t understand that I was supposed to get, they talk fast and one always believe one gets it all which is plain stupid since we all know we don’t 🙂 So what was that new number for, You might wonder and so did I until I paid the bill. It turns out that they most likely thought I had two mobile phones and therefore connected my laptop to my mobile phone but! they also gave me a new almost identical connection to the new laptop! This I never understood when they were talking to me on the phone. I have most likely said yes when they recorded the deal so I won’t even try to complain because it is impossible to win against these big companies.

DSC_0017

DSC_0018

So instead of getting a cheaper bill I’ll get a more expensive 🙂 The good thing however is that if I use too much data in my laptop I just switch the simcard to the old one I had before and take some from the mobile phone because I don’t surf the net that much with the phone 🙂 I do however on the laptop since I often post photos in my NG album and that usually takes a lot of data. We all knew they would trick me and how right we were 🙂 🙂 🙂

One can barely see the cattle in the fog.

We’re having sunny and reasonable warm days here now but foggy and oh so cold nights. It falls down to 3C (37F) at night and I think it might be even colder on the other side of my cottage because almost all tomatoes starts to become brown now. I think I’ll get a few cherry tomatoes but it looks like all big ones are destroyed now. Still, the first frost night hasn’t shown up yet but I feel it’s close now.

I love my dogs but sometimes I do wonder 🙂 They can be so smart sometimes figuring out how to open up doors and how to rob the food sack without me knowing it or to steal my socks and hide them so I can’t find them. But only one gets the poochie bells that I got from Joyce and she never needs to go outside at night 🙂 🙂 🙂 When Sune needs to go outside he runs around like crazy making quiet little sounds but in good time. Hector goes to my bed and sort of say humpf rather quietly and it is pure luck that I actually understand what’s going on when it happens during night.

Orvar, the big kind bear sits close to the kitchen door and hopes for the best 🙂 🙂 🙂 If the best doesn’t happen he looks for a place where he knows I’ll notice what he has done and goes to sleep after doing his business. Well it is easy to find no matter where he has been because of the incredible nasty smell 🙂 But suddenly I’ve noticed something, Nova comes to my bed and wakes me up, I go down to the kitchen door and let all dogs out but Nova doesn’t go outside, she goes back to bed. It turns out that when Orvar really needs to go outside but never seems to know what to do than to sit by the door, Nova wakes me up instead 🙂 She has saved me twice this week because Orvar has been a “bit” wobbly in his stomach.

I wonder how this started? When did she realise that it was a good idea to wake me up even if it doesn’t concern her at all? and why doesn’t she use the poochie bells? The only time those are used is when we are on our way out and Nova jumps up and hit them 🙂 Perhaps I too one day will have a dog that actually understand the greatness of those bells 🙂 🙂 🙂

I woke up to a world covered in thick fog but at the time we went out for a morning walk and it was light enough to get any photos it had become much less thick. At the moment we came home again it thickened again 🙂 It didn’t feel that cold to be honest because there was no wind what so ever but it was actually only 3,9C (39F). I guess it was the fog that saved us from a first frost night. It’s just around the corner to be honest, we usually get it around 6th-7th of September. Days will now turn towards warmer again though and we’ll actually see the sun again 🙂

I was so tired when I went up this morning, it felt like I hadn’t slept at all. My nose is a bit stuffed and my throat feels a bit sour so I guess a cold is slowly taking control of my body. It didn’t help that it  was pitch black outside because of heavy clouds and rainfall. I think I saw some fog too but didn’t care to be honest, all I wanted was to go back to sleep 🙂

But off to work I went and everything was working as normal and I was just waiting for material to arrive to the paintbox when the power died. It only lasted for a minute or so but I had to restart everything again. But the paintbox brain had decided to change painting program so the paint guns collided withe the material 🙂 luckily enough nothing broke, a paint gun costs around 33000 Swedish kronor, that would be around 5077 Us dollars 🙂 We started working again when we had a tiny power break again and naturally I had to restart everything again.

We did look outside and the weather was reasonable fine and no thunder what we could see or hear of. So everything went on as it should and suddenly everything went black. It’s amazing how one power pole can take away the power from an entire county 🙂 The lightning also hit the telephone masts that controls the mobile internet so many didn’t have any connection to the internet for a very long time 🙂 It also hit our computer system at work and they were still working on that when I went home from work this evening. The thunder never even came close to home though, I live very close to the county where my job is, just 200 meters (much the same in yards) but get my power from another place 🙂

I would say that no matter what the meteorological explanation on when autumn starts says it has started here, the leafs are starting to change colors. I saw this morning how many of them are turning yellow. A bit early to be honest but I’m not sure if trees cares about that 🙂 I guess it can be because of the stress from the long draught and then this rather cold and rainy weather after that, it sure feels like autumn anyway.

They show a new channel for free on tv for a while now and it is the channel that show how Cesar Millan helps people with their dogs when things don’t work as they should. To be honest, some of those dog owners are pure idiots! Yesterday for instance they showed a couple that at first had one dog, for a reason I didn’t hear they got another one and that’s when the problems started. The first dog got aggressive and protective. So what does this couple do? Do they solve the problem? No they get yet another dog to even things out as they said?! 🙂 How on earth did they think that would solve anything? Thankfully this was tiny dogs, slightly bigger than Chihuahuas but still they were afraid of this aggressive one.

I’ve heard that Cesar Millan can be a bit too tough on dogs but from the little I’ve seen he hasn’t. On the contrary, he has been determined and consistent and always very calm. Mostly he seems to work with light touches and sounds, when it comes to dogs. He’s a bit different with the humans and is more a therapist to them than anything else. This morning they showed a dog that was afraid of the beach and ocean and how four people tried to force it to stay by pushing and carrying the poor dog, how on earth did they think that would help 🙂 🙂 🙂 If You were afraid of dark rooms and somebody forced You in to one, would You be less afraid of it after that? 🙂 🙂 🙂 It took him a day to make the dog feel safe on the beach close to the ocean.

I do like to watch how he solves the problems the owners create or worsen when they get their dog/ dogs because to be honest most of those problems are created by humans that simply put their own fears in to the dogs heads.

It has been a rainy, damp, cloudy and chilly day until the sun suddenly shone through the clouds, then suddenly it became way to warm to wear that sweater I had when we were out walking 🙂 It feels like I can turn off the radiators tonight, it was way to early anyway to be honest but I do hate to freeze when I get up early in the morning. They don’t seem to go this way though and it’s always nice to see the lightning hit the mountain, I got a perfect view from my kitchen 🙂

I should have brought a basket with me when we were out walking this afternoon, mushrooms are popping up everywhere now, we barely had any last summer and autumn and now when the rain came they were so ready to grow up. Do You know that mushrooms aren’t plants nor animals? Fascinating isn’t it?! and did You know that trees grow much better when interacting with funguses? In fact some can’t even live at all without the help og funguses. The trees even allows the funguses to get inside their cells without starting to fight them off. By allowing that they both gain on it, the funguses give the trees minerals and nutrients that live so deep in the ground that the trees can’t reach them and the funguses get other things in return, I think it was different carbohydrates that the funguses can’t produce themselves.

DSC_0016

DSC_0025

DSC_0026

But funguses are also the ones that finally ends the tree’s life, as soon as it gets very old and doesn’t have enough strength to fight other kinds of funguses attack and slowly break down the trees. By doing so they create homes for other animals and the nutrients that were locked in the tree returns to nature again. It’s all a circle but we humans tend to break that circle by consuming everything but give very little back to nature. Anyway, I picked almost 2 kg (around 4 pounds) of mushrooms and I’ve just fried them all. They do contain a lot of water sop I might have around half a kilo left (around a pound) but that’s not bad. I’ll freeze almost all of it so I can use it during late autumn and winter 🙂

My car has driven me slightly insane warning me about lightbulbs being broken here and there in my car. I don’t have any manned petrol station on my way home so I have to drive long detours to get to any place that sells car lightbulbs. I don’t like long detours so I have been putting it off for quite some time but now mornings get darker and darker so I better change before it is too late. I remember the olden cars, lots of space in the engine room and it felt sometimes as if one could crawl in to it and still have place for a sofa and a small tv 🙂 Today there’s no space at all. Some cars are so bad that they have to go to a garage to get the lightbulb changed!!

I would lie if I said I had plenty of space to change the lightbulbs in my SAAB but I did manage to get my hands down and remove the bulb without injuring myself too much and to my very big surprise it was even easier to put it all back again and it worked too 🙂 I always drive to the same petrol station when I need new lightbulbs to my car, it’s almost only women working there and I can be just as stupid when it comes to cars as I actually am 🙂 There are a zillion different bulbs to choose between and some are better than others and some are better than all the others but not for the price they have. So I just walked up to the same lady I always walk up to and said Help and help I got and she didn’t make me feel as if I was the most stupid man on earth 🙂

It’s time to make a pot of tea and after that I think I’ll have a short nap, better take it on the sofa because even if I do fall asleep easy in it it still is a bit uncomfortable so I won’t sleep for too long 🙂

Have a great day!

Well, that was a surprise.

DSC_0036

We had one of the worst thunderstorms that I can remember the night towards yesterday. It wasn’t the lightning that was worst, even though we had plenty of that too, it was the rain. But it was the rumble that woke us all up in the middle of the night and most of us couldn’t fall asleep again so we were all a bit tired at work yesterday and today too to be honest. I had two rather big trembling dogs that tried to hide behind me and two smaller that got a bit jealous when the big ones were allowed in the sofa (no dogs in my sofa normally) so they too wanted to stay there.

I can understand how Noa felt when the big flood started because it was something like that here too 🙂 I’m surprised the little road outside my home still is there and in such good condition because it wasn’t a little road that night, it was a river 🙂 I had big lakes in my garden and that’s unusual since there’s only sand beneath the grass. I went down twice in my cellar because I was sure the water would go down there but luckily it didn’t. I texted to work that I most likely would be late because there was no chance to get Orvar and Hector to the dog yard as long as the thunder continued and I wouldn’t even have tried since I know how afraid they are.

This is not a puddle, the water flows from one side of the road to the ditch on the other side :-)

The rain was still pouring down when I drove away to work and the wiper blades on my car worked on highest speed. I passed the river Lidan and it was no longer a calm sort of sleeping river, now it roared and for once it actually looked alive 🙂 But that was nothing really. Before I enter the village where I work I must drive over a tiny creek, much the same size as the one I usually show photos of here. It had almost reached the bridge I drove on and that is around two meter (much the same in yards) higher than normal. This village is on a big area called the Vastgota plains and it is absolutely flat for miles and miles in all direction so if this little creek wood go any higher the entire village would be in trouble. It did get higher.

This is a glimpse of how it must have looked some centuries ago when this was a shallow lake.

Almost the entire village was covered in up to half a meter (the same in yards) of water just after I had reached my work place. My work place however is slightly higher than that but even there water poured in since the drains outside started to spraying up water instead of swallowing it. A rather new hotel and restaurant with a bowling alley in the basement got flooded and they think it will take at least fout´r months until the bowling ally can open again. I have no idea how the grocery store managed through this but I guess they too got flooded.

DSC_0004

The entire neighbor factory where I paint some times was covered in 30cm (12 inches of water and they had to send home most of their employees and they were closed today so they could clean up. Almost the only place that didn’t get flooded in that factory is my paintbox 🙂 A few more drops and that too had been drowned 🙂  So what happened here in the village at the outskirts of the world? Not much thankfully but the bog now looks a bit like the lake it once was and every single little ditch now are more filled than they ever have been before 🙂 It rained quite a lot today as well but most of it fell over the bog and not here, lots in the village where I live though. Today they have even bigger problems further north, a semi big dam broke and the water filled a city close to it.

It’s just a way too slow and painful way to die.

We had sun for about half an hour when I came home.

We had sun for about half an hour when I came home.

It’s amazing how much rain that can fall during a day, it has been pouring down since late last night. It came down so hard that it woke me up in the middle of the night. As soon as I understood what it was I heard I fell asleep instantly again. Falling rain is one of my favorite sounds to fall asleep to. It didn’t stop raining until I came home after work, I read in the news that lots of places have been flooded so the first thing I did when I came home was to check my cellar. Thankfully it was as dry as it always is.

I found rather many mushrooms on our walk yesterday (and there were even more today, even on the places I already had picked them at). No I don’t pick mushrooms that I’m not certain they are edible (it’s just a way too slow and painful way to die if eating a toxic one) and I think I know more poisonous mushrooms that edible to be honest 🙂 The ones I picked yesterday was boletus mushrooms. We have no poisonous ones in this part of the country, we have two kinds and they are so rare that they only grow in two places. We do however have two that taste so bad that they destroy any kind of food they might be cooked together with. Thankfully I know both of them but even I can make a mistake if being tired and some dinners have been totally destroyed 🙂 🙂 🙂

The ones I picked yesterday is called (directly from Swedish, I don’t know their English names) Butter boletus and Sand boletus. The butter boletus is always rather slimy on the top so it takes quite some time to remove that from the hat and it sticks to everything 🙂 I cleaned up the mushrooms on a newspaper and had to toss it all away when I had finished 🙂 After that I placed a big lump of butter in a hot frying pan and poured in the mushrooms. Mushrooms contain a lot of water and that needs top be boiled away and when that’s done one can either stop and be happy with that or continue to fry them so they get a nice surface which I usually do. I’ll put most of it in the freezer so I can have it in my dinners next week, which will be reindeer shavings.

I really don't like when two mushrooms look very much alike. This one can be a rather nice mushroom to mix with others but it can also be very poisonous, I never pick it :-)

They say we’ll have warmer weather and sunshine again next week and I won’t complain if that’s true. It’s so chilly and damp now that I actually am thinking of turning on the radiators. I guess the chimney is so damp that it might be best to try and start a fire in the stove on a weekend, it tends to look as it is burning in my cottage every time I start that first fire after summer 🙂 My fire alarm starts shouting and I must always shout to my neighbor that he don’t need to call the fire brigade 🙂 After that my home smells like a forest fire for a week or two 🙂

It’s a damp, cloudy, chilly and somewhat windy morning here in the village at the outskirts of the world. It’s actually nicer out there than it sounds like but I did wear a fleece sweater when we were out walking earlier. No sound could be heard and no hunters could be seen, even the cows, cranes and geese were quiet. I did see a car pass my cottage later on though so I know that I’m not the only human left in the world 🙂

It will rain big parts of the day so mostly I’ll just stay indoors reading a book or watching a dvd or two. I’ll do the laundry too and I have already ordered a time for the annual vehicle inspection, it doesn’t matter if I know there’s nothing wrong with my car, I know I still will be close to panic while they go through my car, I always am 🙂 🙂 I guess it has to do with tha fact that without a car I might as well live on an island far out in the ocean without a boat because I wouldn’t be able to get to work from there either 🙂

I won enough at the lottery this week to buy another ice cream 🙂 This time however I think I’ll buy a normal one and not a soft ice cream, it was just too tricky to drive, shift gears and have a soft ice cream in my hand at the same time :-)It melts way too fast and if leaned a bit too much it will slide of the cone and in to the lap as soon as one makes a turn 🙂 By the way, do You know that one of the inventors of soft ice cream was the former British Prime minister Margaret Thatcher)? I can’t even pretend I liked her but she did what she wanted to and at least she did do one good thing in her life, the soft ic cream 🙂

Could have felt like summer.

DSC_0011

This could have been a really nice day if the sun could show itself a bit more. As soon as the sunbeams finds a way through the clouds it feels like summer still is around. It feels like a slightly chilly autumn morning when they don’t. No sounds can be heard, not even any cows can be heard so we could be totally alone in the world right now without knowing it. It was very different early this morning though.

Thousands of cranes could be heard out on the bog and by the little lake out there and in between geese did what they could to be heard too. I’m pretty use I could have seen plenty of them if I had worn my rubber boots, it is very wet in the grass now and I didn’t want to get wet feet so we never walked out far enough to see any. If my memory serves me right I think my rubber boots are leaking so my feet would most likely be wet anyway 🙂 Besides, the fog laid thick out there so I would most likely just have seen shadows of the cranes which most likely would have given me great photos 🙂

I was a bit surprised by seeing another human being out walking on the fields this morning, I’m normally alone any time of the day but never see anyone early in the morning. I was even more surprised to see another one out walking. It was my neighbor and he told me that the hunting season for Roe deer bucks started today. I do hope that one-eyed Rune will make it this season too, I would miss him if he didn’t turn up this winter.

I had hoped I would be able to mow the lawn today, the grass is getting a bit too long but it never dries up. We’ve had rain the entire week and we’ll get more today. It would just be a mess in the lawn mower if I tried to do anything now and when (if )it it does dry up it’ll take forever to mow just because it will be so long. By the way, do You know that one of the best ways to grow vegetables (or anything really) in pots is to grow it in pure sand and every time one mows the lawn place a 10cm (4 inches) thick layer of grass over the sand? The grass will not only keep the water from evaporate from the pot, it will also fertilize the plants every time one water it.

It seems to be a mushroom year now.

I think we had thunder just a few minutes ago, hard to say really because it sounded like a car with a trailer passing by but the sound came from the wrong direction, not the road but the fields on the other side of my cottage. The rain comes and goes all the time, no big amounts but enough to make one want to stay indoors, even the dogs rather stay inside and sleep instead.

More and more birds are flying south now, I hear the cranes and the geese early in the morning when they fly away from here and no small birds are singing any longer. The katydids still sit in the trees playing their songs in the afternoons and evenings. It is still summer though and some birds are feeding their third bunch of young ones now. My tomatoes are slowly changing color now 🙂 Some are sort of green-yellowish now 🙂

So no one of You dared to guess what those words in Swedish-Englishish meant 🙂 Well the wine vine was easy ( and the grapes themselves are called wine grapes) but the clean is very tricky 🙂 Clean and reindeer has the same word in Swedish so I meant a reindeer. The raw animal, that one is a tricky one 🙂 Raw means just the same in swedish and animal is the same too but combined they get a totally different meaning, so a raw animal is a rÃ¥djur which is the same as roe deer 🙂 A road clean is no animal, in Swedish it’s vägren which is the same as roadside.

Here we have an unknown clematis seedling, self sown this year. A Ruta graveloens (I think, I forgot to check the name tag :-) ) and a variegated Siberian Dogwood. All plants for the garden that I brought home are very hardy so very little risk of loosing any of them during our winter.

The really tough one was the buttock and east butter goose 🙂 I often write about my butter geese here and what kind of onlays I have on them 🙂 So lets start with the buttock, that’s actually ham 🙂 sort of fits don’t You think 🙂 East means the same thing here and is usually spelled with our letter ö so in Swedish east is öst BUT east can also be spelled ost. We usually use the word ost when we talk about from what direction the wind blows for instance. I’m not sure why we still use ost as a direction though, it might be something they used to use in the navy. Ost however is also the same thing as cheese 🙂

Then we come to the butter goose. We say smörgÃ¥s when we are talking about sandwiches and one part of the name is smör which is butter and the other part, gÃ¥s, is goose 🙂 So what I wrote meant a ham and cheese sandwich 🙂 Nopw You say, what’s onlays then? You say cold cuts or sandwich spreads, we say pÃ¥lägg wich when dividing it in to two words in on and lay, onlay 🙂 Soo easy 🙂

If this had been spring I most likely would say that it’s so nice outdoors so I’ll have the kitchen door open all evening. Now I say it’s a bit chilly outdoors so I think I’ll close the door as soon as Sune and Nova comes in after playing in the garden. It feels a bit like autumn but I doubt that autumn has arrived already, it is a bit too early even for us here in the north. I will most likely say that after the first week in September when the first night frost have been here.

The nights aren’t any more chilly, it’s the days that are a bit colder instead. So I really don’t notice much change when we’re out walking before I get to work. I came to think of words that can be the same (with perhaps a bit different spelling) or very different when it comers to English and swedish. Come for instance is kom in Swedish. High is hög, cocoa is cacao, coffee is kaffe, school is skola and beaver is bäver. Rather like wouldn’t You say. I had lots of fun thinking about to translate some words precisely as we say them to English and had rather fun for a while. You all know about troll spindle being dragonfly, Butterfly is called Fjäril in Swedish and if I would make it a ( two) word(s) in English it could be butte il (I’ve checked, there are words like that in English 🙂 🙂 🙂 ).

We have thunder right now but it is an old tired thunder that just sort of farts every now and again just because it feel it has to do something. If not for any other reason than to show it exists. Not like the young energetic ones we had when lots of things blew up here in the village 🙂 I barely managed to get home and indoors here at home after work before the rain started. Not even the rain seems to have any energy, it just falls straight down and is more like heavy drizzle than a real shower. I think I’ve made too little dinner for this week. I always make enough for one week when I eat dinner at work and this time it looks like I won’t have enough for Thursday as well (I stop working so early on Fridays that I don’t eat any dinner there). This week it was lamb, something we call lammskav and I just couldn’t find the right english word for it without making it sound like an injury 🙂 I think it’s minced lamb or very thin slices of lamb and they are frozen in a block. It should just have defrosted half way when one is about to cook it. I then break pieces out of this block and while frying it it divides into small slices if You can understand how I mean, looks like bigger or smaller flakes.

The annual plant swapping day was yesterday, well my annual anyway because I never miss this one but there are several plant swapping days all over the country all summer to be honest. This one is almost just on the other side of the bog but the distance driving there is more than twice than if I could have driven straight across the bog 🙂 We had the weather god with us this year, mostly sunshine and warm. Last year it was rather cold that day and the rain poured down 🙂

For those of You that don’t know what a plant swapping day is, It’s a day when we bring the surplus of what we might have in the garden or what we have sown during winter and spring. Many always believe that just because many of us are a bit advanced in gardening it means we only bring rarities with us but it’s far from the truth. What can be weed for one person can be a treasure for someone else, it all depends on what kind of conditions it is where one live. Here for instance Aaron rods are weeds and something I toss by the hundreds some years, others might barely get them to survive in their gardens.

They show their garden to any people every summer and unlike many that have this well kept gardens they're not afraid of bright colors, something I really like. They are well known for all their day lilies, I think they have over three hundred different varieties.

Normally all of us bring home more plants than we had when we came there 🙂 We have no idea what so ever how that can be 🙂 🙂 but this year I actually managed to have some character and brought home slightly fewer plants than I brought with me. There were however a few people who first didn’t want to participate in it because they didn’t bring any plants with them. We had to sound a bit threatening until they realised that we don’t care about petty things like that and we wouldn’t let them go until they had plenty with them home 🙂 🙂 🙂

By plant swapping I don’t mean that I say to someone that You can have these plants if I can have that one, no it’s a sort of lottery. All plants are placed so we all can see them (and naturally we all tell what we brought with us) Then we all draw a number and usually it’s the one with the number one that starts. I got number one yesterday and had one plants I wanted to take before anyone else. Naturally the lady that held this day then decided that number eight would start 🙂 🙂 🙂 But I got that plant anyway 🙂 I’ll show You later what I brought home yesterday.

I wouldn’t have mind if the fog had stayed but since we’re closing in on autumn it’s best to get as many sunny days as possible and charge the batteries before it gets dark and dreary again. More and more cranes and geese are flying southwards in the typical v.formation but plenty will stay for as long as they can and a few will actually stay here all winter long if it is mild enough. They will get plenty to eat so the risk of freezing to death is small.

The morning was totally quiet, well I could hear one bird singing but just for a few minutes and then it quieted down too. Not even I could be heard, all dog behaved exemplary today so no need for shouting after them to not go too far or to come back. The fog laid thick and the sun rising gave it fantastic colors in the red spectrum. I love mornings like this and perhaps it’s a good thing they don’t happen too often so one would become used to them 🙂

I was thinking of taking a nap when we came home from our walk but instead I thought why not do the laundry? Normally that’s a Sunday chore but I did it today since I actually thought it was a good idea, that doesn’t happen too often 🙂 So I thought I would take that nap after the laundry but then I thought since I’m already up and going and doing things why not vacuum the floors? So I did that too. I realised that the floors wouldn’t be much nicer if I didn’t scrub them too so I did that as well. I think I might have reached the point when I can take that nap but now I don’t feel like it 🙂

WordPress is acting strange, for some time now I’ve had problems getting in to my blog. I sort of get half way there and then it slows down so much that I never get the entire site. I also have problems getting in to other WP blogs, it just takes so long before anything happens. It does go faster if I just go to WordPress.com and then go the back way to my blog, very odd. Also, when I comment in other blogs I can’t use this blogs name, WordPress says I don’t own that blog which is ridiculous since WP itself says that it’s in that name I will place comments in other blogs??!! and like in all other big sites it’s impossible to find an e-mail address so one can write and ask them why this is happening 🙂 Yes there is support forums but really, this must be something wrong with WP and nothing other bloggers can solve for me!

The biggest forest fire ever recorded in Sweden is going on here right now. So far one person has died and another one is badly injured and he’s gone from really bad to even worse. For some reason they decided they should save timber from burning up and went straight in to the forest. This wasn’t even their own personal timber but timber owned by a company, they were both employees and I can’t for my life understand how they thought it was worth the risk of loosing their lives for that? Besides forest fires are tricky and one never knows how fast they move or where. People were upset that the authorities hadn’t blocked the roads but really, people should be able to use their own brains at least some I think.

Aeroplanes from both France and Italy water bombs the fire and several helicopters too but the fire is out of control anyway. It’s hot, dry and very windy where the fire is so if rain won’t come and help soon this might be a bigger disaster than it already is. They are evacuating towns and naturally thieves go there and empty homes, one can just hope they’ll get caught in the fires themselves because they aren’t worth a better ending in my opinion. Naturally some people refuse to evacuate their homes, what do they think they will be able to do if the fire comes? Spit on it and make it stop?? I love my little home but if it would start to burn here I wouldn’t stay for a second, my insurance would give me a new home in the end anyway. I would just toss in my dogs, cats, cameras and at least a laptop in my car and drive away with no hesitation at all 🙂

It’s time for a pot of tea and perhaps some digestives with some blue cheese. My laundry is drying up fast now in the increasing wind, it almost feels like we’re going to get a thunderstorm here soon.

A good end to the working week.

Finally, a day that worked without any problems! Ok, we were only three people in a department that needs at least six people to work properly but anyway 🙂 We did get one extra after a while so things went smoothly since nothing broke down 🙂 So the work day were actually quite nice and it did help a lot that we in the painting department only work half day on Fridays 🙂

I had to pay for three months on the old-fashioned telephone now when I stopped the subscription even though they knew I only had to pay for one month. They always do like that and then they send a giro so I can take out that extra money in the bank, minus their huge fee. I always get so angry when they do like that! But now days it turns out that I also can pay with that giro in any store! The fee in the store is much, much less than that what the bank takes so one would be an idiot not to do it and since I’m not an idiot I paid with it when I was in the grocery store on my way home today 🙂

Still, I think it is wrong that companies can do like that and I think it is even more wrong that banks can take any fee they like whenever they like to do so. But they can because here in Sweden we have what they call an oligopoly when it comes to banks. We have just a few huge banks so there’s no competition between them at all. They have more or less the same fees on everything, actually almost everything is just the same between them. They don’t have to start illegal cartels and discuss behind our backs, they just see what the other banks are doing and do te same themselves. Since there are no alternatives we’re stuck with them I’m afraid.

We had thunder here earlier but we managed to take a short walk before it started. We also met my neighbors who has been away on vacation while their bathroom was renovated. They rent the cottage from the castle and thought everything would be ok now when they came home, the renovation started more than two weeks ago so it really should be no problems. But to their big surprise it shows that they still have no toilet or shower! Well that have the hole in the ground where the toilet should be standing and as I said to them, just try to aim really good and there should be nor problems using it 🙂 🙂 🙂 I do feel sorry for them, it’s not easy living without a toilet. But I also said that they should see the opportunities in this, this could be the perfect time to start fertilizing their vegetable garden 🙂 🙂 🙂 Yes I could behave like that because I fed their cats while they were away 🙂

I now understand why I hear the Shrikes all day long in my garden, they nest in my care tree, the Rowan 🙂 For those of You that don’t know what a care tree is, it’s an old tradition going way back since the pagan days. A care tree is usually an Ash tree and sometimes a Rowan (further north in this country) and it is planted the day the house is built (or in many cases when a new owner comes along or if the old tree happens to die. The tree is planted for the spirits of ancestors or for a wight. The tree must after that never be harmed in any way or the ancestors spirits or the Wight will punish the person very hard.

If there already grows an Ash tree on the property it most likely is the home of the Ash lady (or Ash wife), a nasty being that hates humans. But she does stay calm as long as one sacrifice water to the tree every spring. She will also punish or kill any person that harms the tree. But unlike the ancestors spirits or the Wight she dies when the tree does, the other can just move to another tree if they have to.

It’s time for a pot of tea and something to eat. I had a short nap when the thunder passed but I feel it wouldn’t be wrong to have another short one 🙂 But with my luck I’ll most likely sleep all evening and wake up in the middle of the night not being able to fall asleep again 🙂

We haven’t seen much of the sun today but it just looked through the clouds right now. The day has been warm though, not that I can notice much inside the factory but I did step out for a few seconds to get some air. The week started bad and I can’t say it has become much better so far 🙂 Well, at least it hasn’t been worse 🙂

Things will be better next week, at least I know I don’t have to run around trying to get more people to the department or trying to find someone who can fix broken things or tell us why the things delivered aren’t the ones we got in our computer system 🙂 Next week I’ll just stay close to my machines and care about nothing 🙂

My back is aching and my feet are swollen, it feels like I’m walking with tennis balls glues to my souls. But I did shave off all my hair on my head the other day so now I can get rid of all the paint that usually sticks to the skin no matter how much I wash my hair 🙂 and I sleep like I’m dead too 🙂 I also managed to make one of the best pasta sauces I’ve ever made so I’ve had that for lunch every day at work.

Tomorrow’s Friday and I stop working at 12 so it’s a good day 🙂 I had planned to buy some things at the super market (by the way, there wasn’t a fan to be found in the entire country for a while 🙂 ) but I can buy that any other day so I’ll just stop at the grocery store close to work and buy just what I need for the weekend instead. I think it’s pancake time this weekend. I have a few ripe blueberries outside my kitchen door or perhaps I should make some waffles? I do that too seldom.

is not what I would call this one and all because someone, probably with the best of intentions, turned off a few things that we never shall turn off and none of us could understand what was happening. Or not happening as it should have 🙂

I can’t say I long for when mornings get darker and colder but I can say I did it this morning when the dogs thought it would be a good idea to get up just before 4am 🙂 The early morning was quite warm and very foggy so out we went for a walk. First however I walked to a neighbor’s house to feed the cats while they are away for a few days. The short walk was rather nice and even if it was warm there were no flies around to annoy me. No sight of any cats though, they are out hunting most of the time, just like my cats are this time of year.

This mornings fog was very unlike the ones we’ve had so far this summer, it was really thick and showed no signs of giving up even after the sun had risen quite high. This was more of an autumn fog and it did stay for several hours. It didn’t go away until the thunder came. We followed its way via the site that shows the lightnings and I looked out just as one big flash hit the lake here in the bog. Poor Hector, he must have been so afraid. He must have stayed in the dog house almost the entire day because he wasn’t wet at all even if it had rained a big part of the day. Well to be honest, all the other dogs were dry too so the dog house must have been rather crowded. It’s big and I can fit in there without any problems but even so, my dogs are rather big 🙂

It wasn’t that bad to go to work but that was most likely because I didn’t know that this would be a crappy day production wise 🙂 Old equipment should never stand still for more than a weekend or so, if they do they tend to break. It’s annoying as it is but it’s even worse when one doesn’t understand it until it is way too late. It didn’t help that every time the lightning hit so we lost power, if so only for a second, we had to restart everything again 🙂 It doesn’t take a lot of time to be honest but all buttons that needs to be pushed are naturally placed far away from each other 🙂

It is much cooler now but the humidity is so high that it’s nasty outside. We shouldn’t get any more thunder but one never knows. So now I’ll make myself a pot of tea and something to eat. I could have granola, easy to just pour some milk but then again, I did buy tomatoes and I do have paprikas at home. Perhaps a sandwich with cheese, ham, a slice of tomato and a slice of paprika would be a nicer alternative 🙂
