We’re just about to break 31C (87,8F) and I’m so glad I’m not at work 🙂 It is very different to take the heat here at home when the humidity is as low as it is (22%) than it ia at work where the huge washing machine just vomits out steam and the temperature is even higher 🙂 I didn’t stay long at work though, I left already at 10am today.

I had an appointment at my optician at 11:10 and it takes a while to drive. To my very big luck they called for me much earlier than my appointment so I left before I should have been there 🙂 My eyes have changed very little and they said I really didn’t need new glasses for that reason but I thought it best anyway. The powder paint is like sand and every time I clean them they make tiny scratches in the hardened plastic as I think they make almost all glasses from now days.

It wasn’t until I was driving homewards I realised that all schools have their last day today, I saw carriages where students already had gathered around and they were just about to be driven around the town. Must be pretty adventures since Falköping is all hills and slopes 🙂 I got out just in time before it all started, on,y god knows how long it would have taken if I had gotten caught in that traffic 🙂

I stopped by the grocery store in Gudhem on my way home and the owner gave me a small Tamarind tree. I’ve always wanted to sow one myself but one never knows how well those seeds germinate. She had sown this one six months ago and I think I’ll have a good chance on keeping it alive. No bigger problems if we’ll get a warm summer but the indoors air is usually too dry for most plants growing in hotter regions and we just have too little daylight during winter but I’ll do what I can.

I bought two ginger roots which were organically grown and I’ll plant one and place it outdoors all summer, the other one I’ll eat 🙂 I also bought two small Fuchsia plants and hope I’ll be able to keep them happy on the north side of my cottage. Fuchsia’s grow best on chilly and rainy summers but even if I really would like to see these growing big I still rather have a warm and sunny 🙂

Sorry about not writing anything here and today will be short too, it is so hot that my brain is fried 🙂 It is even worse at my work place, today we placed a thermometer where I work and stopped measuring when it reached 35,8C (96,4F). It would most likely have gone higher but that was depressing enough 🙂

Fantastic weather.

DSC_0020 (24)

This is one of those days when it is just too good weather to stay indoors and surf the net. It is actually a bit too warm but a strong wind takes care of that problem. It also keep most flies away, they started early this year but aren’t that many yet but still as annoying.

Yesterday was a horrible day at work, I don’t know how it was outside though. It might have been rather wonderful since the day was so warm but it was also mostly cloudy they said. I had the big luck to hand paint all day so the already hot factory was even for me since the air from the oven hit me all day. I don’t know how much water I drank but it was too little. The big problem is that what goes in must go out too 🙂

I woke up to a very foggy morning today, it was so thick that I couldn’t see my neighbors cottage and it is just 20 meters (much the same in yards) away 🙂 I hurried out with the dogs because as soon as the sun started to warm up the already warm air the fog thinned. We were able to enjoy it all through our walk though. It doesn’t happen often but today even the forest were  full of fog.

I went home a bit early today because thunder arrived and the lights were blinking at work. It hit somewhere in the village where I work and was moving eastwards so I figured it would arrive here at home before me if I stayed until my working day ended. It hasn’t arrived yet because it moved very slowly. I have heard it in the distance and the site Real Time Lightning Map (click on the red text and a new window showing the site will pop up, it works all over the world) shows that the thunder is just north of where I live.

The Eurovision song contest starts tonight with the first semifinal. This year we are making it so big that countries with less budgets never will get a chance to even come close to what we’re doing. To be honest, the semifinals have fewer viewers but still in the intermission between the songs and the vote counting (tele-voting in all countries) Justin Timberlake will sing!I can’t stop wondering what they will have in the big final show on Saturday if he only sing in a semifinal?!

The stage and equipments are so heavy that the arena, Globen (the Globe, looks like a giant golf ball) now has sunken with 3,5 cm (1 2/3 of an inch) 🙂 Even if we don’t know what songs will be in the big final (well six countries are there already, the five that pays most to the EBU and the winner from last year which is us this year), there are still favorites to win it all. The biggest one is Russia. I can’t say it is my favorite but it is good. The top five on the betting businesses are right now Russia, Ukraine (very odd song and it sounds like the singer sing one song and the band plays another 🙂 ) Sweden, France and Australia. Yes Australia is a member of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union).

My personal favorite beside Sweden of course is Australia. We’ll know on Thursday night if she made it to the big final. It is time to get something to eat and perhaps I’ll watch the beginning of the semifinal but I must up at 5 am tomorrow so I won’t see it all.

Have a great day!

It isn’t fun when it is dry and it is even worse when it is wet.

DSC_0035

We’re having a strong wind again today (and it will last for a few days they say) that works like a giant hairdryer together with the sun so I had to water all my vegetables today and a few other potted plants as well. The wind didn’t do an especially good job with the grass though because it was soaking wet even if we haven’t had any rain in days. It’s boring to mow the lawn as it is and it is even much worse when it is wet.

It looks like the few remaining flies we have here now lives in my garden, I got bitten bad a few times while mowing and there were some forest flies that wanted to check out how it looks inside my ears, so I had to put in earplugs to keep them out 🙂 I don’t have those problems anywhere else right now, not even by the bog.

They have also been informed not to shoot my stalker 🙂 so they will stay away from the areas he usually walk around in. It did feel like I worked an extra day when I had to keep working to two pm instead of going home at noon as I always do on Fridays 🙂 It wasn’t so much that I had to work but because it is a hot and awfully humid day. That is Scandinavian hot so it has been around 28C (82,4 F). The heat is easy to take but not the humidity, it feels like walking in a steam bath. But I will not complain, we’ve had such a chilly summer so any day with warm weather is welcome 🙂

We went out to the bog when I came home and a weak wind did its best to keep us a bit cooler but the most surprising thing was that as soon as we came out to the bog the flies vanished. There were some annoying us on the way but out there they were gone 🙂 If I now only can get the flies in my cottage to go outside to die too I would be happy 🙂 Not a single bird sings now, instead the grasshoppers and katydids have taken over. It is amazing how these small insects can sound so much 🙂 I like it a lot though and I’ll fall asleep to the sound tonight since the katydids sit in the big lilacs just outside my bedroom window.

Yesterday morning when I almost had reached my work place I could hear a strange sound from the back of my car. I couldn’t figure out what it was so I didn’t care about it too much. On my way home however it sounded much more and even if the sound didn’t fit I thought it might be a wheel bearing that slowly was giving up. It sounded really bad from time to time but that was nothing to how it sounded when I started driving on the gravel road here in the village. Wheel bearings usually takes its time before it gives up so the sound can be heard for a long time so I was surprised that it was giving up that fast.

So I started to wonder if I prehaps had driven over something that had been caught and was dragged along with the car. It turns out that it is a plastic belt that holds the petrol tank in place. Well to be honest, it is one of the things that holds it in place. I tried to move it both yesterday and this morning but it was impossible, thankfully 🙂 So I called the garage and they’ll take my car next Thursday. They’ll also fix some other small things before I need to go to the annual vehicle inspection in September (and check if there’s anything else that needs to be fixed). It’s only one person there because they too have vacation this time of year 🙂

My closest boss didn’t work this week and the factory owner was on vacation too so I just put a big note up on the factory owners desk telling him that I must stay at home Thursday and Friday next week since they aren’t sure that my car will be ready to leave the garage already on Thursday afternoon, it isn’t easy to estimate how long time all the other jobs will take when it’s only one person working.

We had a really nice morning here but no fog as we had yesterday.

It is hot today! Two days ago it barely reached 18C (64,4F), today it reached 29C (84,2F). It isn’t nice at all but thankfully the humidity still is rather low and a breeze helps us to manage this temperature swing. They have predicted thunder for tonight so I thought the flies would be more nasty than usual but they didn’t even care about me in those places the wind didn’t reach. I wonder if it is too early to hope that their season is over now?

Yes that it how it feels when looking at the thermometer in the morning and it shows 10C (50F) and when looking out the window one see that mist is covering the ground. Yes that is how one feel when walking in that cool air, in the mist and no horse flies bite and no forest flies annoys 🙂 Today might be the hottest day for this time and tonight a cold front from north will reach us and give us both rain and thunder. I won’t however say the same thing on Thursday when all weather sites predicts we only will get 14C (57,2F) but it will only last for a day they say, with my luck it will last longer though 🙂

Yesterday we had a weak wind helping us through most of the day but today the Norwegian weather site says we most likely will have no wind at all big parts of the day. I did the mistake to take a walk yesterday when the wind suddenly stopped to blow and it took hours for Orvar to get back to normal after that. Well we all were quite beaten after that walk and none of us moved for a very long time 🙂 I refuse to complain about the heat though, the spring and early summer was so cold that this was what I longed for and finally my vegetables have started to grow and the first tomatoes have started to change color from green towards something yellowish 🙂

The birds don’t sing as much any longer and soon the mornings will be totally quiet again, except for the twitter they always have during the rest of the year. I saw the first formation of geese this morning, they won’t head south yet but it is a sign that times have changed and autumn slowly will come closer. I also heard a lot of cranes in a field not far from here so now they too gather in groups to eat as much as possible before the move south. Today I also heard the funniest sound from a bird, at first I thought it was a cat fight going on but suddenly I heard the most beautiful song strophe and it was the same bird making both sounds. Normally my guess would have been a starling but this was a lonely bird (starlings are never alone) way up in a tree and it was impossible to see it. I do wonder what it was!

It is a semi bad year when it comes to horse flies and their relatives. I’ve been through much worse but this is bad enough. I’ve read that dark clothes will keep those nasty flies away (and white clothes to avoid mosquitoes but they don’t bother me that much) I can say that it isn’t fully true, I got bitten several times yesterday so here it is thick clothes that keeps them away, so thick they can’t get through it that is 🙂 Several of those nasty buggers have found their way in to my cottage as well but so far I’ve managed to kill them all without anyone of us getting bitten by them. Anyhow, I used that camera for years and liked it a lot (I never say I love things, after all they are just things) but after having it in a garden center for several years and the rise of the digital cameras I sort of forgot about it and moved on to the digital side in life 🙂 One day I found it again and after cleaning it up as good as I could I still had one big problem, there a rather thick line of algae in the viewfinder 🙂 It covers about a third of it and it makes it hard to focus on what I want to photograph. So I thought I would open it up and clean it out but I was worried that I might not get it together again so I wanted a similar camera that I could use if I wanted to if this one never would become a working camera again.

Here are the first photos in years taken with myn old Minolta XG1. It was difficult to focus because of the algae. The film also gives nature slightly different colors than a digital camera would.

So what to do? Well I took a look at the Swedish eBay, called Tradera. I couldn’t find that camera at the moment but I did find the one coming after mine, the XGM. They work very much the same but the m variant had one thing that made it even better than my old camera, when using it in manual mode I still could see what time the camera would use if it could choose. Both cameras are half automatic, one chose the aperture and the camera chose how fast it would be. In my old camera I would have to check what the camera would choose and then change it to what I would like it to do, with the xgm I can see that already in the viewfinder while having it in manual mode and quickly just adjust the time to what I want it to be.

I really like this one! My favorite for today!

I really like this one! My favorite for today!

The only problem was that the seller had put in two more different Minolta camera bodies and I thought that would rise the price and I really didn’t want any of the other two 🙂 But the beginning price was really low so I placed a bid and won, once again the package fee was almost as big as what I bought the cameras for 🙂 It stood in the add that the person didn’t know if any of the cameras worked so it was a gambling to buy them. I have only checked the XGM and the only thing that one needed was new batteries, it works perfectly! So now I can pick my first camera apart to clean it up and even if it would be sad if I couldn’t put it together again I still would have an almost similar camera left and my old one would look nice as an ornament 🙂

So what about the two other cameras? I’ll most likely just put them away since I didn’t want them in the first place, I feel that I have enough cameras now 🙂 I know some may wonder why bother with these old cameras, are they better? NO, the digital cameras are better in all ways to be honest but I like that I have to think before taking a photo because I can’t just delete a photo when it is taken when using film. So I really need to get it right immediately. Much also depends on the film, like how colors shows in the photo, the film doesn’t always give the correct colors and that gives the photos an old-time charm no digital taken photo does unless it is heavily edited.

The rest of the photos comes from my "new" Minolta XGM.

It is impossible to have too many photos showing that root cellar 🙂

Also, one more thing! How many of us actually print out or order photo copies of our digital photographs now days? Most save them in an extra hard drive and almost never look at them again. I miss the old days when we bought a good-looking album to put our photographs in, I still open up my old ones and look then through every now and again. I almost always delete my digital photos, I only order them as paper copies when I use them to make Christmas cards. Even if I don’t order paper copies of my film photographs I still have the negatives so I can do it whenever I want to.

It is time for a short nap before it gets too hot, this will be a day of watering tomato and passionfruit plants and relaxation. The hot weather doesn’t allow us to do much more to be honest. It is vacation and I love it 🙂

There was an unsused roll of film in the camera when it arrived and of course I used it but it looks as if it was damaged by something and I've picked out the two I like most from that roll of film. This and the next one, I might show more from that roll later on.

Vacation time.

I'm not happy with my photos today, it was just too hot and too many flies around to concentrate enough. This is Rosa glauca.

I think it might be even hotter today but it is impossible to say since the thermometer just now shows how warm it is in the sunshine on the north side of the cottage 🙂 We’re all rather calm and most sleep on the spot they find coolest, well not all because Sune sit in the sunlight out in the garden 🙂 He had a bath in the creek to be honest so I guess the remaining dampness in his fur might cool him down still. Either that or something must be really wrong in his head 🙂 🙂

But then again, I saw a neighbor mowing grass when I came home after work, he didn’t have any shirt on and was slightly brighter than the sun 🙂 I guess he’ll have some problems tonight when it starts to hurt in his skin because he must have burned himself rather badly in this heat and sunshine. We walked out to the forest on our walk because there’s much more shade there but not only that, there are also one zillion flies, so many that even the dogs just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. Very few biters though thankfully.

We heard the most strange sound out on the bog while we were there. Have You ever heard a Harrier plane take off? It sounded just like that but quieter. Both the dogs and I tried to see what it could be but saw nothing. Bertil refused to follow us to the bog at all which is even just as odd. We couldn’t stay to investigate what it was because of the flies, I’ve seen strange things out there but this was the first time I’ve heard something strange.

I mailed three films to get developed on Thursday and today I got the photos on their website. I used my old Minolta XG-1 and another Minolta which I will tell You more about tomorrow, I’m just too tired and too warm to write all that today 🙂 But most photos actually turned out quite well this time, I have missed my old Minolta 🙂 So I’ll sit down later to make those photos smaller and edit them some if needed, I might turn down the highlights some since some are over exposed.

I brought home Hector today and he came in a very nice looking wooden urn. I thought he would come in a paper box or something like that. So he is at the moment standing on the linen cabinet and I’ll give him a better place when I have cleaned up my sitting room properly.

I woke up in the middle of the night, yesterday was quite hot so I kept on drinking lots of water and drinking lots of water means one must let lots of it out too 🙂 It was actually quite dark and I was surprised to see that the moon was full, so naturally I had to bring out the camera. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep well after that, I rarely do if I wake up like that. The morning was quite wonderful though, no clouds and only 4,6C (47,5F), they had said it would be a warm night but I’m glad it wasn’t, our cool mornings are the only time we are fly free now 🙂

The temperature had risen to almost 20C (68F) when I drove to work and it just kept on rising, it was 30C (86F) by the time I drove homewards. I really can’t complain about it finally getting warm but it is quite b´nasty to work beside a hot oven and a huge hot washing machine all day when it is as warm as it is now. The humidity itself is so nasty that we try to go to other places in the factory where it isn’t so warm. I suddenly remembered that the AC unit in our office is working all day long, so I sneaked in there a couple of times to cool down some. Too bad that one must go out to the heat again 🙂

I did worry a´bit about the dogs because they never drink any water when they are in the doghouse/ yard. I don’t know why, they have two big bowls and it is the same water as we have here in the cottage, they drink a lot of water here but never in the doghouse/ yard. Well, they were all fine when I came home so I guess they drink just enough here in the morning before I leave for work.

There’s really no need to water anything in the garden just because we’ve had a few days with warm weather but I have some annuals that grows fine and thought that since I still had to water the tomato plants I might as well water them too. I also have a few passionfruit plants that should love this heat and I better water them today when I actually think of it than tomorrow morning when I most likely will forget about it 🙂 I was hoping to see some flower buds by now but I guess it hasn’t been warm long enough for that to happen. Even the squash and pumpkin plants refuse to grow.

We’ll have this wonderful weather until Sunday but on Monday it will cool down again, it won’t be cold though, around 20C (68F) and that’s more my kind of temperatures 🙂 We’ll get some rain too they say but it is still too long into the future to believe 🙂 The evening is quite wonderful now, warm with a weak wind. The sheep calls to each other but the cows are quiet. This is how summers always should be 🙂

Tomorrow I’ll go to the vet station to bring home Hector, after that I’ll go the opposite direction to get Orvar’s medicine in Falköping and as soon as I come home it will feel like vacation time even if it doesn’t start until Monday to be honest 🙂 I might go to the tea and coffee shop to buy some tea and a big ice cream :-)They don’t have many flavors but the ice cream is so delicious and the cone is sooo big 🙂

The temperature took a giant leap upwards today and it didn’t stop until it reached 27C (80,6F) 🙂 It’s always a bit shocking when it jumps up high like that when it has been autumn cold for such a long time. But I must admit I love it 🙂 I think I do because I know that it already tomorrow afternoon will turn towards cooler again 🙂 It is a bit much for old Orvar though, his legs wobbled even more when we were walking in the sunlight but got calmer when we reached the shadows and he could rest some.

He’s fine now though after resting for a long time indoors and his appetite is as good as always. I have to keep an eye on him and his food though because Nova was quite nasty towards him this morning growling until she could steal it from him. Sune isn’t much better but more easily scared if I yell 🙂 They did it again so this time I gave Orvar a treat but not Nova and Sune, missing treats can be a good help when telling dogs that they are very wrong in what they’re doing 🙂

I decided they day was too good to waste on mowing the lawn, so I repotted some plants instead and realised I have loads of seedlings that need new homes, either in the flower beds or in pots until I find a spot for them. Too hot to do anything about those now anyway so I’m thinking of doing tat tomorrow evening since they have predicted some rain tomorrow night. I’ve also managed to take a short nap and it was quite nice but I doubt it will help me staying up tonight 🙂 I’ll most likely fall asleep shortly after 9:30 tonight like always 🙂

The forest flies are back, can’t say I’ve missed them but at least they’re just annoying, not biting. I’ve seen plenty of dragonflies, very many hornets and several butterflies too today. None sat still long enough to get photographed though so You’ll have to trust me on that one 🙂 My tomato plants are doing fine and I have several small tomatoes growing already, photo will come tomorrow. So today has been rather nice so far, especially since I only work till noon on Fridays 🙂

It’s going to be a hot day, it’s already 25C (77F) and the temperature will keep on rising, Scandinavian hot that is 🙂 The hottest temperature ever recorded in Sweden was 38,4C (101,1F) and I can honestly say I’m glad we so rarely reach that high 🙂 We’re having a strong wind again today so I’m not sure it will feel that warm as it’s going to be but I guess the wind will force me to go out and water later on because it does work like a giant hair dryer.

My cold isn’t worse than before, the throat is even better but I am tired all the time. I just woke up from a nap that should have been short but lasted almost two hours 🙂 But I still have ice cream and I can make lots of tea and perhaps add some honey to it. Did You know that if You want the good qualities from honey You mustn’t heat it up! Never make it warmer than luke warm because if You do You’ll kill all those fantastic bacteria that helps us and if You do the honey won’t be any better than common sugar. Well, it tastes nicer if You eat a teaspoon of it though 🙂 So be sure to not buy honey that once have gotten totally stale and then heated to become runny again. The only thing You’ll buy is expensive sugar.

I have lots of angry Shrikes in my apple tree, two parents and some of their younglings. I’m not sure why they are so angry though, I think both my cats are here in the cottage and I doubt any other cat would dare walking in to their property. They might not always be the best of friends Bertil and Teodor but they do protect their domains together and fiercely too. Even Sune got interested now and took one of his tours down to the apple tree, the birds quieted down so perhaps it was a cat on the other side of the fence? Perhaps the feared female living up at the farm? She really don’t like dogs, even from the other side of a fence.

I’ll most likely make some pasta and some kind od sauce of course. Meatballs with it too perhaps or sausages? All these difficult decisions one has to make 🙂 But for the moment I’ll have that ice cream (chocolate I think it is ) and some tea. By the way, the bread turned out quite nice 🙂
