I woke up and was really confused, so I went to bed.
Sorry but I am running late again but on a Tuesday π I suddenly remembered that bills need to be paid even if one has been sick for over a week π and when I realised that I remembered a few other things I needed to do as well.
Yesterday I was going to watch the football match between Iceland and England. England has always been my favorite team but in the Icelandic team seven of them play in our top division at the moment and five more have been here too and not to forget, their coach is Swedish. So I had a bit of a problem on what team I should hope to win.
I fell asleep in front of the tv five minutes before they started and woke up 25 minutes in to the match. I read England 1 Iceland 2 and thought I must still be sleeping, so many goals in just 25 minutes can’t be possible. It was π I was so confused that I decided it was best to go to bed π I’m sad for the English team but so happy for the Icelandic π Now I hope they go all the way π
Have a great day!
Midsummer’s eve.
Today we celebrate Midsummer’s eve here in Sweden, a holiday as big as Christmas over here. The traditions go way back and the christian church did of course do what it could to make it a truly christian holiday and one could say they failed miserably π They made tomorrow John the Baptist day since it is 6 months before Christmas day so that sort of fits rather well. If You ask anyone today when John the Baptist’s day is I’m pretty very few would be able to say the right day. For some reason we Swedes always celebrate the eve, never the actual day π Tomorrow will be a day to cure hangovers for many people and in nine months lots of kids will be born π
The Midsummer pole, some also call it the may pole but in this case the swedish word for may doesn’t mean the month but to dress, is dressed with leafy twigs and flowers. Some say that tradition is very old others that it came from Germany in the early middle ages, what we do know however is that back in the days they had huge bonfires but to be honest, it is not so wise to have if the summer is dry, who knows how well that fire will spread with some help from the wind π Anyway, the midsummer pole is dressed and risen early in the day and later in the day people will start dancing around it. My favorite song is the little frogs and it is quite fun to see grown up jump like little frogs around the pole π Another favorite is of course the priest’s little crow who drove a car by himself and we all know that is a pretty difficult task for a crow so he slides here and there until he ends up in the ditch and of course that’s what all dancing will do too π
The hero however can be almost evil, we still accept it.
I’m not sure which is worse, the fever with boiling/ freezing periods or the coughing with runny nose π I’ve started coughing so bad that every single muscle, even those tiny in the scalp aches after one of those cough attacks and the runny nose isn’t especially fun to have either π
I didn’t get many hours of sleep last night and the few I got wasn’t any quality sleeping π The coughing makes the sore throat even more so so every tim I tried to swallow the pain hit the brain and woke me up. I’ve spent the morning watching the film Avengers Age Of Ultron. A perfect film to watch when the brain no longer works π The logical center in the brain doesn’t work anyway so nothing seems impossible to do π There isn’t even anything odd having a Norse god as one of the main characters π
As I said yesterday, the evil guy in films like these must be truly evil, not a philosophical mumbo-jumbo character but heroes can be very different, they don’t even have to be good ones for us to accept them. In the Avengers films I don’t think there’s really a single good one, except for possibly Captain America, the rest of them are more or less unstable as best π
It is time to open the kitchen door for a while, it has been raining all morning but it looks like it has stopped for a while now. I really don’t care because I really need to get new air into my cottage, the old one smells like sickness π
Have a great day!
The evil ones need to be extra evil!
The dogs are bored, I’m at home and therefore we should be outside walking all day like we do on work free days. They constantly wants me to open the door and when I don’t follow them out they go inside again sighing highly π It is however not the nicest of weathers outside even if it isn’t that bad either. Mostly cloudy with a strong wind and below 20C (68F) temperatures.
Yesterday I sowed the last vegetables in my vegetable patch. Red carrots, chard, broccoli and a few squash seeds. A bit late for squash but then again those plants usually give too much anyway so I think I’ll get just enough this year. I have plenty of green tomatoes but no ripe ones, we need a few days with sunshine to make them red I think.
The fever has sunken rather a lot so I hope it’ll be gone by tomorrow. It came back during the night for a while so I woke up every time I either froze or boiled and gave up at 4am and went up. That gave me plenty of time to watch dvd’s though π So this morning I finally watched the last Hunger Games and the latest Star Wars. I liked them both but I have to say that Hunger Games did feel a bit slow some times but loved what happened before it ended.
They do have problems making the evil characters in the Star Wars films. Darth Vader and the emperor was really good but the young Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader was really bad and so was the bad guys in this film too. I think they tried to make then interesting but only managed to make them annoying π The hero side however is really good but a good film needs a fantastic evil guy, one we all can hate and who is interesting and not someone we all want to die early in the film just because he’s so annoying, or perhaps pathetic is the right word π π π I do hope they get more evil in the next film π
It is time to start fixing the food for the dogs and a big pot of coffee for me, I’m already tired and would like to be able to stay up until at least 9pm π
Have a great day!
I’m alive and that’s not bad :-)
Yesterday was no fun, the fever went sky-high or at least above 39C (102,2F)., One minute I froze like crazy the next I was boiling. I thought I would watch any of the dvd’s I’ve bought but I didn’t have the energy to start the dvd π and to be honest, I would most likely have slept through most of the film anyway.
I went to bed wearing thick clothes and after a few hours I woke up and hade to take them off again π I was surprised to see that it wasn’t pitch black at 1am, there was enough light so I didn’t have to turn on any lamps. I know it wasn’t the moon because it was cloudy all night and it was just minutes ago that we could see the sun for the first time today.
I guess it was a perfect day to get this cold because it rained all day, I couldn’t have done much anyway to be honest. Still this is nothing one wish anyone to get. Today feels better, I’m at least not freezing any longer but my throat is nasty, the headache comes and goes and I’m so tired. I really need to mow the lawn now but there’s just no energy left to do that. We’ll take a short walk though and after that I’ll most likely fall asleep in front of the tv again π
Have a great day!
I’ll have lots of ginger and honey!
The rain poured down when we woke up and Nova just refused to go outside at all, Sune however loved it and stayed outside for quite some time. I joined Nova in refusing to go outside until the rain had stopped falling. The humidity is up on 99% and it will stay in the upper 90’s all day it seems.
It isn’t especially warm but the humidity made it a bit nasty to walk around. I had my very worn down fleece jacket on, not because of the eventual rain that would fall or because it being a bit chilly, I wore it because of the flies that were nasty yesterday evening. They weren’t this morning, they barely showed up at all π So I did regret wearing the fleece jacket to be honest.
I have a headache and a very sour throat today, I guess I must pay for having such a wonderful day yesterday. I have plenty of honey and fresh ginger at home though so I’ll fight this cold till the bitter end π Unfortunately colds coming in summer tends to stay much longer than the ones in winter, yes there are studies showing that so it isn’t just a myth. To be honest, I think this is the same cold I’ve had all winter so I guess this one will follow me for quite some time more π
It is time to make a pot of tea, put in ginger and honey and after that take a nap. The kitchen door will stay open as long as the rain don’t fall so the dogs and cats can go in and out as they please, normally that means they’ll all stay indoors all the time π
Have a great day!
The most wonderful morning.
I’ve had the most wonderful morning today. I drove quite early to the hospital to get my insoles and was lucky to be the first one there. I don’t think it took more than five minutes to get them adjusted to my two pair of shoes. After that I drove to the marina, the sun was shining and there was a weak but just enough warm breeze to keep me cool. I took several photos but only with old cameras, it would have been too much with my digital too because old cameras weigh lots more than modern ones.
Vacation season has started and I saw lots of people walking their dogs and I wished I could have brought my two too, Sune would have loved to swim in the lake, NovaΒ would have liked to drink the water π There was also a big group of Canadian geese and those are not birds to mess with π They refused to move when I came walking so I had to walk in a half circle around them and realised how much they poop, it looked like lots of smallish dog poops to be honest but they were green π I also passed through thick clouds of midges, our black flies but they don’t like me especially much thankfully. I think one or maybe two bit me but that’s it.
It was when I walked by the water I suddenly started to long for the ocean. The lake is big enough so it behaves like an ocean in most ways but there it doesn’t smell the same, no salty smell with a touch of seaweed and that smell that is so hard to describe. Small fish jumped up in the air so I think pike, walleye and perch might have been out hunting or perhaps even trout. I guess it would have been a good morning to fish so I almost regretted not bringing a fishing rod. We can fish for free in the ocean and the five big lakes here but we do need a fishing license in almost all other waters.
I parked the car in the center of the city too and walked around for an hour or so before I finally found an open cafΓ©. Odd that they don’t open early so people can have their morning coffee and a croissant there. I could however get some Thai food already when I arrived in the city, they obviously don’t think it is odd to have cooked food that early in the morning π I just can’t eat cooked food that early though so I never went in even though it smelled delicious.
It takes around an hour to get to FalkΓΆping from LidkΓΆping if one drives legally π so I had to leave before 11am if I wanted to be in time for my appointment at the optician. I did have some time left when I arrived so I walked around in FalkΓΆping too. I bought some tea and the best ice cream there is in that town before I went to the optician which is on the same street.
We managed to take a short walk when I came home, the flies drove Nova crazy so she turned homewards as soon as she could, there aren’t that many flies but they behave insane so I think thunder might come soon, they predict thunder for tomorrow. None had however predicted showers for today and I guess that none of us is surprised that it did rain here π
It is time for a pot of tea and after that a walk if the flies starts to behave normal again.
Have a great day!
Image
Quite nice evening.
We’re having a warm afternoon, sunless and windless Β and it feels like we were going to get thunder any time soonΒ but I doubt that. The flies behave that crazy as they always do before a good thunderstorm though. It’s odd, almost all of Europe has lots of thunder right now, even our neighboring countries but not a single place here in Sweden π
The rain didn’t just wake up lots of flies it also made the grass start to grow. We didn’t get that much rain here though but it was enough for those two things I’m afraid. Still, mostly non biting but rather irritating flies so far and not so many that I feel the need to wear my mosquito hat even if a few of them tried to see what my ear looks like inside.
I have the day off tomorrow but won’t be sleeping especially late in the morning anyway. First I’ll go to the hospital in LidkΓΆping to get my new insoles and when I’ve done that I’ll walk around some in the city and I’ll bring two old cameras so I can take photographs both in the city and the marina. LidkΓΆping is placed by the biggest lake in Sweden, VΓ€nern (it is by the way the third biggest lake in Europe but still Tiny compared to the big lakes on the American continent).
I also have an appointment with my optician and that’s at 12 so I can’t stay too long in LidkΓΆping because my optician is in FalkΓΆping. I have to pass my village on the way there and that’s always a bit annoying since I usually want to drive home when I do that π If I still have film in my cameras I’ll take a few photos there too. I think I’ll go to the Tea and Coffee shop in FalkΓΆping as well, it’s on the same street as my optician. I’ll not only buy tea they also sell the best ice cream there is, a bit expensive perhaps but well worth it.
No more things to do after that the entire weekend, well the laundry and lawn mowing but that’s a givenΒ if the grass grows and I want clean clothes π It is time to make something to eat and I’ll have some tea too, I am after all not going to work tomorrow so I can stay up a bit late if the tea works that way π
Have a great day!
I can’t say I was impressed.
I can’t even pretend I was impressed by the Swedish team yesterday but at least they didn’t lose. 1-1 and that’s only because the Irishmen nicked the ball in to their own goal π π Mostly the Swedish players ran around like chickens with panick attacks π I doubt they have any bigger chance to go especially far this year.
Really nice weather today and the predicted rain for tomorrow is no longer predicted, not the rain that would come on Thursday or Friday either but instead they warn for loads of rain on Saturday. The one who lives will know as the old Swedish saying goes π
I’ve very little more to say today so I give up now and see You all on Thursday.
Have a great day!
European football championship.
From the Gevabox.
Sweden is just now in a match against Ireland so no blog today.
See You all tomorrow!
Have a great day!
A rather perfect morning.
We’re having a rather wonderful morning here at the outskirts of the world. Sunny, warm and with a weak wind just enough cool to make it even more pleasant. Always flies in the air but still unusually few and even fewer ticks of which I’m thankful.
Β
To get even further away from the world we took our morning walk out on the bog. We were actually there already yesterday afternoon because my neighbors had been there and told me it was so dry out there that it was possible to walk around without sinking anywhere. I did hesitate a while because I thought there would be lots of ticks, mosquitos and midges there but then again it is voles and mice who spreads ticks more than other animals and voles would drown if they tried to dig in the ground out there and mice stays mostly on the islands so we avoided to walk there.
I climbed up one of the hunting towers in the hope of seeing some wildlife but except for small birds I couldn’t see anything but trees and cotton-grass. To be honest it was enough for me that there were no biting insects and hardly any other flies either π They all seems to have moved in to my cottage instead π I really need to buy more sticky fly paper again.
I better go outside to water the pots now since we’re going to have sunshine all day and after that I’ll have a pot of tea, one can never have too much tea in life π
Have a great day!
Still a bit chilly.
We’re having a chilly, windy but mostly sunny morning here. It is sweater weather even if one walks in shelter of the wind but kind of nice anyway. It is however not that nice that I’ll keep the kitchen door open for more than a few seconds. I guess that’s why the dogs wants to go out and in all the time, when it stays open all day they usually don’t feel the need to go in and out at all π
No big plans for today. I might go outside and sow those last vegetable seeds I still haven’t sown. A good thing I didn’t since we had frost the other day. Sometimes it pays off being lazy because they had not survived such a cold night π
Perhaps I finally will watch one of all the dvd’s I’ve bought. I still haven’t watched the last Hunger Games movie or the latest Star Wars movie and I have continued to buy dvd’s so I have plenty to watch when I finally start :-)I also have several books that I’ve bought but not come around to read.
I can always do the laundry but that can wait until tomorrow or I can do some today and some tomorrow. All these choices and still nothing to do as I so often heard when I was a kid π
We came really close and they weren’t especially bothered by us at all. Three roe deers just having a nice morning.
I do know however that I will drink a big pot of tea very soon and I might watch some tv while I’m drinking it. I still have that extra channel for free and still without any sound π but comedies with subtitles work anyway. The rest of what they show is pure crap though so I don’t watch that channel especially much anyway π
It is time for that pot of tea and after that a nap perhaps. I will set the alarm though because I tend to sleep for way too long and when I do the entire weekend gets messed up.
Have a great day!
I turned on a radiator.
The day has been and still is rather cold and windy but the sun has shined almost all day so it has been bearable but not more.It seems to have been raining quite a lot during the night but nothing can really be seen in the creeks and there are no puddles around that would be great mosquito nurseries either. My water barrels however are full again.
It even got so cold and with high humidity yesterday that I turned on a radiator in the livingroom and I did close all windows too. If the wind calms down I can turn off the radiator again tomorrow and open up the windows too I think because they have changed the predictions to much nicer weather than they did just a day ago. We’ll get sunshine again and the temperature will rise to the high 16C (60,8F). It does look like all my plants survived the frost night the other day and without damages too π
I’m so tired today but I don’t know why, usually this cold weather does the opposite to me. I fell asleep in front of the tv as soon as we had come home from our walk π If it hadn’t been for the flies annoying me I would most likely have been asleep yet π I guess it could be because Nova has kept on waking me up at 4am every morning this week. I would most likely have woken up shortly after that time anyway but it is something else to be woken up with the help from someone else. Today however she didn’t, this time it was the alarm and that felt even worse π
It is time for another pot of tea and after that perhaps another walk, the weather isn’t inviting so it all depends on whether the dogs get impatient or not π
Have a great day!
I just can’t win :-)
I’m sort of lazy when it comes to shaving so long periods I have the right style with a hipster beard π Yesterday I thought it was time to get rid of it and brought out my trimmer. I stood in the bathroom and trimmed away when the machine, wich has a cord, started to hack. I didn’t think much of it but tried to keep the cord in a way that it at least would work until I was finished.
Suddenly big flames came out of the machine! I shouted something like AAAAAH in a high-pitched voice and was about to toss it in the sink but realised that would be a rather stupid idea since I had a newspaper there to collect all the hair, that would have been a smelly start of a nice fire π So I dropped it on the floor, still burning and tore out the cord from the jacket but the bl…. thing kept on burning π So I ran out to the kitchen and tossed it in that sink instead. I tossed it in a clay pot and placed it in the garden during the night π I looked slightly derange in my face, some places had still lots of beard left and it was a bit tricky to shave it all off π
My printer hate me too! We’re going to have our annual road association meeting so I was going to print out the calling to the meeting and also last years protocol. I had bought black ink this year since it refused to print out anything no matter what color I chose as long as there was no black print. So I was printing out the calling when I noticed that the text was clear blue! I know I had adjusted the printer for black text but still there it was in clear blue π As soon as all calling notes had been printed the printer told me I had no blue ink left. No problems I thought, I’ll get the protocol in black so I don’t need blue.
Of course I needed blue, it refused to print anything in black as long as I didn’t have blue print! So away to FalkΓΆping I went and bought blue print and when I came back it didn’t fit! I had of course tossed away the old cassette, which by the way had just enough blue ink in it to color my both hand very blue. So back to the store minutes before they closed and I just bought a cassette which I thought looked the same and to my big surprise it was the right kind. So finally I could print the protocol. Guess if I got surprised that every letter it printed just had the edges in black, inside it was totally white?!
It didn’t matter what I did it continued in the same way. So then I thought, I have a lot of blue ink now so if I adjust the printer to make the letters very dark blue instead, that should make the text look almost black. I now have the protocol and the text is purple and I have given up π I truly hate printers but I need one and every year it is the same battle and the printer always win π
It is time for something to eat and after that I’ll see if there’s anything interesting on tv. I now have a channel for free again (I don’t know for how long though, it can be gone tomorrow or in two weeks), it shows all my favorite comedies but there’s one problem, there’s no sound π I can however say that since we always have subtitles in shows made in another language it is just as fun anyway π
Have a great day!
Back to cool mornings again :-)
We’re back at more normal summer temperatures here now, around 22C (71,6F) during the day and around 10C (50F) during the night but this night was a bit more chilly. I looked at the thermometer just before we went out for our morning walk and it told me it was 3,5C (38,3F) outside in the sunshine π
It was actually really, really nice but I did wear a fleece jacket. The sun warms us up but the shadows are a tad cold for quite some time. We still have very low humidity so no morning dew today either. That however means the ticks won’t be around either so even if I miss the dew I really like the tick situation π Not many other animals around either to be honest but the ravens had a huge fight with something, they were so noisy that they could be heard all over the village.
I’ve done something with my right thumb, I don’t know what but it hurts like h… every time I move it π I haven’t hit it in anything and I have no smaller or bigger wounds in it either. I noticed the pain yesterday evening and thought that it would be gone this morning but it got worse instead. I can move it and it gets a bit better if I continue to move it every now and again but as soon as I keep it still for a few minutes it’s the same again. This is not a week to not being able to work because I’m the only painter who will be there all week. Lots of school graduations next week too. Thankfully I’m ambidexter so as long as nothing happens to my left hand things would work π
I must go to the super market today. I really need mosquito nets and I’ll see if I can find a small fan too, just in case the heat returns. We all fear that this was the summer we’ll get this year. Last year started out much the same (less hot though) and as soon as our vacations started the cold and rainy weather came to stay. Looking at it statistically if May is hot June will be cool and July hot. Almost always a lot of rain though because the summer months here are also the ones with most water falling from the sky. Climate change however has changed things so now the weather turns anywhere all the time π
It is time to get some breakfast and as soon as I hear that my neighbors are awake I’ll drive to the super market. I don’t want to goo to early just in case the dogs would start to bark in the dog yard when I drive away. They say they rarely do but if they do it will of course be on a Sunday morning π Normally I would be really annoyed if I had to go to a supermarket on a Sunday but we’re having a holiday tomorrow, our national day, so it doesn’t feel like I’m destroying the last day of the weekend.
Have a great day!
I’m not freezing anyway :-)
We’re just about to break 31C (87,8F) and I’m so glad I’m not at work π It is very different to take the heat here at home when the humidity is as low as it is (22%) than it ia at work where the huge washing machine just vomits out steam and the temperature is even higher π I didn’t stay long at work though, I left already at 10am today.
I had an appointment at my optician at 11:10 and it takes a while to drive. To my very big luck they called for me much earlier than my appointment so I left before I should have been there π My eyes have changed very little and they said I really didn’t need new glasses for that reason but I thought it best anyway. The powder paint is like sand and every time I clean them they make tiny scratches in the hardened plastic as I think they make almost all glasses from now days.
It wasn’t until I was driving homewards I realised that all schools have their last day today, I saw carriages where students already had gathered around and they were just about to be driven around the town. Must be pretty adventures since FalkΓΆping is all hills and slopes π I got out just in time before it all started, on,y god knows how long it would have taken if I had gotten caught in that traffic π
I stopped by the grocery store in Gudhem on my way home and the owner gave me a small Tamarind tree. I’ve always wanted to sow one myself but one never knows how well those seeds germinate. She had sown this one six months ago and I think I’ll have a good chance on keeping it alive. No bigger problems if we’ll get a warm summer but the indoors air is usually too dry for most plants growing in hotter regions and we just have too little daylight during winter but I’ll do what I can.
I bought two ginger roots which were organically grown and I’ll plant one and place it outdoors all summer, the other one I’ll eat π I also bought two small Fuchsia plants and hope I’ll be able to keep them happy on the north side of my cottage. Fuchsia’s grow best on chilly and rainy summers but even if I really would like to see these growing big I still rather have a warm and sunny π
This is the last day with this kind of heat, tomorrow will be much cooler but still summer warm. Now it is time to give us all something to eat and after that I’ll slowly melt away somewhere where there’s no sunshine π
Have a great day!
It’ll only take seven years or so.
We don’t have any sunshine but it is fairly warm and low humidity makes it feel even better. The weak wind just makes it more pleasant so I really can’t complain today. Well it would be about the flies then but to be honest, they aren’t as many as I feared. I guess I can thank the draught we’ve had for a while now. Living in a boggy area means the ground never really dries out too bad.
I was thinking that I would start chopping down my lilac hedge as soon as the flowers starts to wither but I can’t do that. I don’t know how many birds nests there are in there but one is enough for me to wait until Autumn comes and all small birds have flown away. One nest is so close to my gate that every time I walk out of my garden the chicks starts to scream for food π I do hope it is too hard for my cats to reach it, Teodor is the one most interested in hunting birds but he is just too fat to even come close to the nest and I hope Bertil doesn’t care. He is however a master in hunting mice and voles and those I don’t care if he takes.
There’s this one cow that is very pregnant in the cow pasture right now. She has been standing still at the same spot all day looking miserable. She did walk a bit to get some fresh grass to eat but it is very easy to see where the calf is π I’m pretty sure we’ll have a new calf in the pasture by tomorrow morning.
Today was a perfect day to mow the lawn and by the sound of it many neighbors thought the same thing. The more trees and bushes I plant the faster I mow the lawn π My plan is to have so many bushes that I just have paths going around the entire garden so mowing will take even shorter time. The only problem with that is the cord since I have an electric mower. It will most likely get caught here and there but I see that as a minor problem.
I have two kinds of grape vines in my garden and they are amongst the hardiest and most pest resistant one can find. One is the American Frost grape (Vitis riparia) and the other the Asian Amur grape (Vitis amurensis). I have a problem with my frost grape though, it only produces male flowers so I never get any grapes but this year the amur grape flowers too so I have high hopes of at least get a few grapes this year π I have sown more frost grape seeds though and if they germinate it’ll take around seven years until I get any flowers on those new vines π
I also found a small pot that I sowed something two years ago and two small plants are growing in it now, the problem is that the name tag is gone π I’m not quite sure what is growing π It might be a service berry but it could be something completely else too π I’ll know when it is bigger I hope π Do You remember when I told You two peonies had germinated and started to grow? One is dead and the other one doesn’t look too good, I’m afraid one of the cats walked on it but it is still green so I still have a tiny hope it will survive. If this had happened when it was two years old it would have survived but they are very vulnerableΒ the first summer.
I think it is time to make some frozen yoghurt, I think I have some vanilla yoghurt in the fridge. Perhaps I should make some kind of dinner first though but I’m not really hungry.
Have a great day!
I need more space for my trees :-)
It was quite pleasant outside this morning, around Β 8C (46,4F) and the birds sang as loud as they could. What is quite pleasant in the morning isn’t necessarily pleasant in the afternoon, it wasn’t much warmer when I came home from work. The clouds cover the sky but they are so thin here and there that the sun can shine through them every now and again. When it does wearing a fleece jacket is too much.
It is even more dry in the ground now after the thunder showers than it was before. So there isn’t especially many flies in the forest right now but down by the creek it was on the way to become nasty, they always want to look how my ears and nostrils look from inside and I really don’t like that π The good thing was that they refused to leave that area so as soon as we walked away from the creek we were fly free.
I thought I would grow melons this year so I bought the hardiest kind I could find. We call it Mango melon but I found the English name Vine peach. The instructions say to prune them heavily otherwise they will take over totally. On the net I found that they will taste best if one preserve them in syrup, they don’t taste a lot raw but then again can be used as a sweet cucumber instead π I sowed a lot of seeds just to be sure I would at least get one plant, I now have at least ten growing in my kitchen window and more seeds are germinating π
I still haven’t figured out where I’ll plant my tiny hazelnut bushes, they will grow big soon enough so I better find the right places from the start. They now grow in pots so I can think of this all summer before I need to plant them because I also have to think about where I want to try the Shagbark hickory π I really need to become rich so I can buy more land to plant all my trees π
It is time to feed all the animals and perhaps myself too. I bought some grilled chicken on my way home today, I’ll see if I can make something tasty with it or if I’ll wait until tomorrow to have it. It is odd, it doesn’t cost more to buy a grilled chicken than anΒ ungrilled?!
Have a great day!
Guess if I got surprised!
Summer has returned for an afternoon but that was something I really couldn’t believe this morning when I went ou to the cat to get something I had forgotten. There was ice all over the car! I had just woken up and was so tired that I didn’t go inside again to bring the camera π It was -2C (28,4F) as coldest this morning. I have to admit it surprised me quite a lot π
It must have been during a very short time though because my tomato plants looks just as good as they did before. None of the weather sites had predicted this or even come anywhere near that low temperature, they all predicted 8C (46,4F). I wonder if I could have forced them to get me new tomato plants if they had died π No idea to sue anything in this country, if one would win the best one can hope for is a “Good for You” and a tap on the shoulder. If one lose however one must pay the winners legal fees and all the rest.
Lots of flowers that really shouldn’t flower yet flowers out there in the nature. It is odd to see all the flowers in bloom that shouldn’t flower at the same time π It isn’t that strange to be honest, spring sprung already in early March here, can’t remember if that ever has happened here during my lifetime.
It is time to make something to eat and I’ll take the risk of having a cup of tea too. I’ll keep the kitchen door open for a while longer, the dogs loves to run in and out chasing each other π
Have a great day!
It’ll be hot!
I must admit that I never thought this day would be as nice as it has and still is. Not much sunshine but warm and a just enough cool wind to make it even more pleasant. The morning was warm enough but the humidity made me sweat like a pig, I was stupid enough to wear a fleece jacket, it is so worn that it gives very little warmth to be honest but it still was too much.
I did the laundry and everything dried within an hour. It’s almost a pity I didn’t have more when we have this weather π π I put the potatoes in the vegetable garden while the laundry was drying and noticed that the sand closest to the flowerbed beside was bone dry, no wonder my rhubarbs grow so bad there. So I watered the vegetable garden and also those flowerbeds where I sowed annuals this early spring. Lots of them are showing already so a bit more water doesn’t hurt.
I’ll bring out all my tree tomatoes (Tamarillo) and Naranjilla plants too today, tomorrow might become one of the warmest days ever in May, they predict that it’ll be 27C (80,6F) here! ( the record is actually 32,5C (90,5F set in 1892) That is a temperature we rarely reach during hot summers here π It’ll be a joy to work in the factory beside the huge oven and washing machine π π The combination of nasty high humidity and temperature is nothing I look forward too.
I saw that my tomato plants have tiny tomatoes growing on them now π I still have those plants in too small pots but I don’t have enough soil at home to replant them, I better remember that tomorrow on my way home from work. I must also remember to buy sticky fly papers, yes it is the season of those little beauties π The forest flies are already here to annoy me but still not that many that I feel the need to bring my mosquito hat. Lots of butterflies, bumblebees and the first big dragonfly or as we call them Troll Spindles. No hornets yet though, I do like those friendly giants.
I doubt that I’ll write anything tomorrow if it gets as hot as they predict, my brain will be fried and I’ll most likely be dehydrated no matter how much water I drink at work tomorrow. It’ll cool down a degree or so by Tuesday though so if You don’t see anything here tomorrow You’ll most likely find something on Tuesday.
It is time to make a big pot of tea and after that I’ll start to bring out all the plants, it’ll be empty in my windows tonight π
Have a great day!
The ticks are thriving.

High humidity, cloudy sky and warmish isn’t that nice to be walking in to be honest, it is the high humidity that sort of dampens the joy of being out walking. The weak wind there is doesn’t help much but the humidity has already sunken quite dramatically so it does feel better when sitting here in the kitchen with the door open. The clouds are thick but every now and again there’s a tiny rip in them allowing the sunshine to hit the ground for a few seconds at a time.
No rain is predicted for today so the grass might get a chance to dry up and I a chance to mow it. They predict some sunshine for tomorrow though so I guess I’ll get the chance then if I can’t do it today. To be honest, the predictions change just as much as always so it might end up with a hurricane instead π I won’t complain too much as long as we don’t get frosty nights, I’ve started to bring plants outside for the summer so frosty nights are a no-no from now on.
We walked in some high and wet grass this morning and that is tick paradise. I picked over twenty crawling ticks from both dogs and a few that already was sitting there drinking blood. Nast creatures and they aren’t even especially popular amongst animals as food. Most birds avoid them so it seems they are here on this planet top spread diseases and death. I guess that’s important for nature too, there would be too many animals around otherwise but I still can’t pretend to think ticks are something we really need π
The worlds biggest half marathon takes placeΒ today in my old home town. Β 64 000 people have signed up to participate! I did it once and that was quite enough for me π They have a good weather to run that far today, not too hot or too cold. There is always some people who do this that really shouldn’t and heart attacks aren’t uncommon amongst them. Even worse are damaged knees or other joints though. The Beekeeper usually run but I did see his car here this morning so perhaps he doesn’t this year.
It is time for a pot of tea before I do anything else today. SuneΒ Β is sleeping on the kitchen stairs, there’s some sunlight hitting it at the moment andΒ Nova does the same in the living room, I would like to do the same but I know I’ll sleep for too long so I think I’ll skip it π
Have a great day!
There’s something special with early summer rain.
There is something special with early summer rain, it sort of brings out all the smells and scents there is and make the day better even if it is grey and dull. We’ve had that kind of rain today and it was so nice to be out walking after work even if it rained quite a lot in the beginning. The birds loved it because they sang even higher than usual. The sheep however wasn’t happy at all, they just stood there looking on the ground rather miserable π
I had to pick up two packages today and naturally they weren’t shipped to the same place π One package was to be fetched in FalkΓΆping and I really dread the traffic there on Fridays. It is odd, the town is really small but the traffic is just as bad as it is in our big cities π I also needed to buy more ink to my printer but that store is of course placed in the other side of the town π I was however lucky both times with finding a parking space and that is quite an achievement since all parking is free there.
I thought it had rained quite a lot today, it looked that way when watching it but I guess the raindrops were small because the ground is just as dry as before just beneath the surface. So I guess I still can hope for a mass death amongst the fly larvae π Too late for the same when it comes to mosquitos, we have plenty already and several attacked me in the forest today. I get immune towards the itching rather fast thankfully so mosquitos don’t disturb me that much to be hones even though that annoying sound they make tends to drive me slightly mad π
I’ll have at least one Shagbark hickory growing here soon, I saw that one of the nuts now has cracked and a root is looking out π I wouldn’t mind if the five or six other nuts do the same even though I only can have one in my garden. Well that is if the climate continues to give us short winters. They really don’t need to be warm but they do need to be short. The Black Walnut is slowly opening up its leafs and it is now almost six years old and perhaps 140cm (56 inches) high π I feel that I might have a few trees that will grow a bit too high for my garden but at the time they will be that big I’m most likely dead and gone anyway π
I have had a few more rolls of film developed and I’ll start shoving those photos today even if I haven’t shown all from the previous time, the last ones from then are not especially good anyway to be honest π Today You’ll see photos taken with the Agfa Ambi Silette but later on there will be photos from other cameras too.
It is time to get something to eat, the animals got their food for oven an hour ago. Nova is a bit picky with what she eats so now I’ll try another kind and if she likes it we’ll continue with that one. Today she of course ate it with joy but that was only because it was something new π
Have a great day!
I’m to my surprise not cranky.
I’m not sure why, knowing myself rather well this is a day when I really should complain about the weather but I just can’t π It is slightly above 4C (39,2F) and it won’t become much warmer and we’re having an intense drizzle but still I just can’t complain π It was actually quite nice when we were out walking this morning.
I am however not sure I’ll keep this positive attitude towards the weather since the wind seems to get stronger. Today is a day that people allergic to pollen loves, the wet weather will make sure no pollen flies around in the air making their lives so much easier.I don’t want any frosty nights from now on, the cherry flowers can’t take any frost at all but apple flowers can still produce apples as long as they have been pollinated before the frost comes along.
Tonight’s the night when the big final in the Eurovision Song Contest will start. Russia is the big favorite in the betting firms with Australia just behind. I don’t think the Russian song is the best but his performance is, My favorite is Australia, it is the best song but her performance is rather boring to be honest. Sweden belongs to the top five too according to the betting firms and Justin Timberlake says that it is his favorite according to the newspapers.
Last summer, I think it was, I bought a little machine that makes ice cream. Well that is a lie to be honest. It is two bowls that you put in the freezer until they are deep frozen and one lid with an electric mixer which rotates very, very slow. One put the batter in the deep frozen bowl, put on the lid and start the mixer. After around 5 minutes there’s something very similar to ice cream, like soft ice cream. Ona can of course make real ice cream batter but for two bowls only (one bowl is like one portion) that’s just too much work.
So instead I filled the bowl with yoghurt and it works really good. I put in a variety called Samoan which contains peach, kiwi, mango, pineapple and passionfruit juice. Normally that yoghurt is a bit too sweet but when frozen this way it becomes a bit towards sour instead, just perfect! I also bought a yoghurt with vanilla, apples and cinnamon and I’ll try that one later today. I am rarely at home when the ice cream truck comes to the village and if I don’t bring a cool bag when I’m at the grocery store any ice cream will melt before I come home so this is a pretty good solution.
It is time to make a pot of tea and I’ll show the winner in tonight’s contest in tomorrow’s post.
Have a great day!
I hear it in the distance.
The day has so far been rather lovely, sunny and rather warm with a cool breeze. I can however see the cold front coming and it begins with thunder clouds. We were out walking when I heard the first rumbling sounds. We didn’t hurry home though because at that moment the sky still was almost clear blue.
I had hopes of mowing the lawn today but the rumbling sounds grew bigger and the thunderclouds too so I think I’ll skip that today. There’s something with thunder and electric lawn mowers that sort of don’t go together if You understand how I mean π The thunderstorm doesn’t move fast though so I will have an hour or two more before it moves in to my neighborhood. It might even miss us totally, the mountain has a tendency to get the thunder instead.
I now have a rubber tube in the air leaking tire. It turned out to be the rim that wasn’t good enough. We could see small bubbles when we (well it sounds as if I actually did something, it was the garage owner of course :-)) put the tire in water. I do hope that the rest of the tires stay filled with air now, I am a bit tired to have to fill them up twice a week π
My car is leaking a bit too much oil now, not on the ground but inside the motor. So I asked the garage owner if he possibly had another car for sale at the moment. Ok it is no panic to change car, I really like this one but it is no use in repairing it any longer. He didn’t have any right now but he will keep his eyes open, preferable a SAAB but I’m not picky. It would however be nice to not have to buy new rims every time I buy a new car π
It is time to get something to eat, both for me and the dogs. Better do it before the thunder hits, if it does. It will be hard to meet the cold weather tomorrow now when it has been so warm and nice.
Have a great day!
