Can’t think of any good headline :-)
We had such wonderful weather on Monday and Tuesday that it just was impossible to stay indoors for any longer time. Today isn’t that bad either but it is cloudy and has been for most of the day.
Still, birds are singing and farmers are plowing their fields, they have also put manure everywhere so it smells rather bad in some places 🙂 Most of it is now plowed down though, they all want to finish the job before the rain starts falling, something the predictions still debate over when that actually is happening 🙂
It is time to get something to eat, all the animals have already gotten their food but Nova decided to not have hers this evening. She does like that sometimes and I have no idea why. I guess she’s hoping I’ll drop something of what I’m having but I’ll be extra careful today 🙂
Have a great day!
So we went to the lake, as I had promised You.
Yesterday they said that the strong winds would be gone today, I don’t know what universe they live it but it’s sure not the one I live in 🙂 it is much nicer though and so far the day has been rather fine. Rain will come tonight though but will be gone by tomorrow morning. I think I like this strong wind after all 🙂
We woke up pretty early today and since I had promised to go to the big lake this weekend to get some photos of the cranes I thought I just as well could do it today. I also had to fill the tires on my car with some more air and that would take quite some time and I really didn’t want the dogs to have to stay in the dog yard a day when I’m at home (Sweden has a holiday today too). So I put the dogs in the car and off we went. The first stop would be the petrol station to fill the tires and also to buy some oil, my car tends to eat it every now and again.
After that I drove homewards again but stopped at the nature reserve Forentorp Ängar (Forentorp meadows), You know where the old mill once belonging to the abbey in Gudhem. Unfortunately most pastures had signs saying cows and calves were walking in them so dogs weren’t allowed and the only open one was occupied by a woman and her Boxer, she was training it tracking. I guess she must have had some blood that she would drop every now and again so the dog could follow where she had walked.
So we didn’t stay there for long but continued to the lake. Since we just had our daylight savings time most people would still be asleep when we were there but I had forgotten about those staying here in caravans, most of them seemed to be outside looking at the cranes. Still I got some photos before we went home again and took a normal walk in the forest. Lots of birds are singing now so I do hope we won’t get a too bad setback even though it is more than likely that we will get. I can’t remember when we had spring this early before.
I’ve done the laundry and I have a tomato sauce in the slow cooker, I’ve just started it so it won’t be ready for several hours yet. Tomato sauce only get better and better by the day so I’ll have it to work too 🙂 The clouds are getting thicker and thicker so perhaps it is a good idea to take another walk before the rain starts.
Have a great day!
They’re back!
We now have around 250 cranes here by the lake and the first caravan has arrived too 🙂 This year they say they’ll only count the cranes every second day until they reach over 10 000, that’s when they start counting them every day. I think the record is somewhere around 25 000 during one day. There are also more or less the same amount of humans there too at the same time but fewer caravans 🙂  Naturally hunters now scream that they need to shoot some since there are so many, well not hunters around here though because that would be like cursing in church 🙂
We’ve had a perfect springwinter day here. The night was nasty cold, it fell down to almost -10C (14F) but the temperature rose up to almost 7C (44,6F) and the sun shone almost the entire time. If I would have been at home today I would have packed a picnic bag (I have only two baskets and one is occupied by the cats and the other one has other things in it 🙂 ). Then I would have walked out on the bog and found a sunny spot to just sit and enjoy the day. We did go out on the bog after work but the ice had started to melt even in the shadowy places so to sit down and enjoy the day would feel a bit stressful since I wouldn’t know if it would hold me on the way back home 🙂
We might get much the same weather tomorrow if the Swedish weather site’s predictions are right. They say it will start foggy and I won’t mind that and after that it will be semi sunny. The Norwegian however says cloudy all day and not as warm as the Swedish site. I do hope the Swedish one is right for once 🙂 even if I know the Norwegian usually is more accurate but I’ve heard that even a blind hen can find corn so who knows 🙂
I’ve started a fire in the stove, it isn’t that cold in here but I’m tired and feel a bit frozen anyway. We were all tired at work and a new wave of colds have hit us. So far I don’t feel I’ve caught anything so I hope it stays that way. No big difference in Nova’s ear but it’s just the second day she gets her medicine so It will take a day or two until I can see a difference I think. Sune is just as healthy and happy as always 🙂
I’ve just tossed Teodor out the door. Three times he has gone to the door to get out and every time I’ve opened the door he has turned back again. The fourth time I got tired of it and tossed him outside 🙂 There’s a limit to how patient I am and four times was at least one time too many 🙂
It is time to make something to eat and today I’ll make a sandwich or two on hard thin bread probably with lots of cheese and spotted sausage, really tasty 🙂
Have a great day!
A long walk this morning.
I’ve just woken up from a nap and the weather is just fantastic! It was cold and foggy when I woke up at  am and it stayed that way until after I drove away to the garage to leave my car for some repairs. I could have left it after work yesterday but since I don’t know when the bus leaves and I still need to walk for at least 45 minutes before I reach my home I thought I better wait until this morning. I knew we would get sunshine and pretty nice temperatures today.
It was around 5C (41F) when I left and I did wonder if I should bring a sweater but I thought I would be warm enough by walking from the bust station if I was lucky to get to the bust stop and the bus would arrive soon enough. Sometimes it’s just better to keep on walking if I’ve just missed it since it only goes once every hour. I left a note in the car that if he would find anything else that needed to be fixed right now I wanted him to call me and left my phone number too. I was lucky at the bust stop so I jumped on the bus and only had to walk those 45 minutes, well it took a bit longer since I stopped to photograph every now and again.
I was right about the sweater, it would have been way to warm wearing one while walking because even if the wind blew quite chilly I still felt very warm since the sun shone in my back all the way home. The fly season os definitely over now because not even when I walked between two cow pastures where all the cows stood beside the fences and I was in the middle very few flies annoyed me. You would most likely feel there were plenty but then again You know by now how bad it can be here 🙂
The dogs and cats didn’t mind me coming home so fast again 🙂 but they were all sleeping when I arrived and opened the door to the dog house. It’s always fun to surprise them like that because at first they react as if I was an intruder and makes an awful lot of noise but as soon as they realise it’s me they get deadly silent 🙂 We took a walk as soon as I came home and for a second I actually was thinking about mowing the lawn today but luckily for me that idea died fast 🙂 We’ll have this weather for at least the rest of the week so I’ll have time enough to do it anyway 🙂
Instead I did some laundry, watched some tv and took that small nap. I still feel like I should sleep a few hours but I doubt that would be good for my night sleep 🙂 Instead I’ll make some lunch, fries and hotdogs I think because I won’t have to use my brain doing that 🙂 Long time since I had that anyway. The last time I ate fries must be over a year ago on a hamburger place. The hamburger was so so but the fries were just fantastic 🙂
It is time to do that lunch and perhaps the dogs will get a few fries too, I’m not sure they ever have had that. Today I have over 150 photos to show, some from the Hasselblad, some from my Minolta and lots from this morning. I can’t show them all and I still haven’t decided which ones to show either. It’ll be just as a big surprise for me as it will for You 🙂
Have a great day!
So cold.
Yesterdays weather predictions was so wrong that I actually got surprised, we were supposed to get rain and snow during the day and just a few degrees above freezing. Instead we got over 50F and a dry day with some sunshine. The sun however didn’t show itself for more than a few seconds during the 85% solar eclipse, that I missed of course but a work friend managed to take a photo that he showed me afterwards.
Todays predictions however are rather accurate unfortunately. It has been below 0C (32F) all morning, it has been snowing and the wind has been awful. So we walked in to the forest to stay away from most of it. I did however go down to the lake to get some photos showing the cranes that hangs around and I realised that even by the fields this village is very much protected from the winds, it was just nasty by the lake.
I brought my old Kodak Browning No.2 with me and the tripod since it can’t go faster that 1/50th of a second. I’m not sure that helped especially much though, the wind was so strong that the tripod trembled and I had to lean towards it to keep it as still as possible. I could just find one place where the light might have leaked in last time I used this camera but taped every place that might let in light anyway. I’m pretty sure I stopped the leak and can only hope I managed to keep the camera so still that the photos will turn out good. I used the slide film rolls since it only is ISO 100 and that old camera would be impossible to use with any more light-sensitive film.
But I naturally also brought my digital one so I van show some photos today too. I didn’t take many though because it was so colds my fingers felt like they would fall off 🙂 Stopped me from thinking of my shoulder and feet though so it wasn’t totally bad 🙂 🙂 🙂 I’ll go there when there are more cranes (only around 4000 yet) and the weather is nicer. It is amazing that they don’t freeze to death in this weather no matter how much food they give them.
The sun is breaking through the clouds right now and the wind will calm down some towards the evening so we might get a nice last walk for the day. Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy, cold and the wind will return again. The temperature will go up and down like a Jojo all week but it looks like it will be above freezing during the days anyway. This is typical spring weather here I’m afraid but a month early 🙂
