I don’t feel well but I do feel much better.

I’ve been busy these two last days, yesterday so much that I didn’t even check in to the net at all 🙂 I don’t like being busy but I do survive not going out on the internet and that’s always nice to know 🙂 I was however, for quite some time, not sure if In would survive this cold though 🙂 I did and even though I would lie very much if I said I feel fine I do feel better than in a long time.

The coughing comes and goes and I’m quite happy if it only comes around while I’m awake. I did get one full night of sleep last night but the one before was the nastiest I’ve had. I’m not sure I slept at all and could have been a danger on the road to work if something had surprised me. So I’m glad that it was this morning when the doe and her young one decided to walk out on the road just in front of my car.

I managed to stop in time and could only laugh when I saw the youngling trying to walk on asphalt, it looked like it was the first time it tried to walk at all 🙂 They really can’t get a good grip on that hard surface. Another animal had not had the same luck during the night, the big road was covered in blood and there were so much of it that it must either have been a wild hog or a moose hit by a lorry. At least it can’t have suffered.

Yesterday I was going to watch the football match between Iceland and England. England has always been my favorite team but in the Icelandic team seven of them play in our top division at the moment and five more have been here too and not to forget, their coach is Swedish. So I had a bit of a problem on what team I should hope to win.

I fell asleep in front of the tv five minutes before they started and woke up 25 minutes in to the match. I read England 1 Iceland 2 and thought I must still be sleeping, so many goals in just 25 minutes can’t be possible. It was 🙂 I was so confused that I decided it was best to go to bed 🙂 I’m sad for the English team but so happy for the Icelandic 🙂 Now I hope they go all the way 🙂

My neighbor asked me if I was feeling any better and laughed when I answered I live.

The fever is gone now but the coughing still stand strong, it woke me up at 4am and it’s no use to even try to fall asleep again so we went out for a walk. The morning was so nice and cool! The flies stayed calm and the birds were singing, lot fewer birds singing now, they are raising their younglings and have no need to sing any longer.

It wasn’t that bad working today, mostly because I worked in the neighbor factory. The paint box has a constant temperature of 20C (68F). The air I breathe however is cooler and much drier. I thought that would make me cough a lot but it didn’t, instead I barely could talk at all when I was finished for the day 🙂 I was badly hoarse before I started to work but that was nothing compared to after 🙂 It was nasty warm at my ordinary workplace though so I’m pretty glad that I’ll go to the neighbor factory tomorrow too 🙂

I do hope I can sleep an entire night soon, it’s ok in the morning but it doesn’t take long until one starts to feel like a zombie. I can’t hear properly in either ear, it sounds much like how the tv used to sound when there was nothing on back in the days 🙂 My nose is stuffed most of the time too but those things I don’t get so bothered about, all I want is to get a good nights sleep 🙂

It finally opened up.

My Pink Dandelion! Only half the flower openbed up yesterday (the deep pink part) and only for an hour or so before it closed again. My guess is that what looks more or less white now will be more pink tomorrow. This is a rare dandelion from the Himalayan mountains. I had lots of small plants last spring but Orvar and Hector ate most of them :-) :-) I really couldn't complain since I always gave them the dug up dandelions from my flowerbeds :-)

It is another steam bath day, high humidity and rather warm. There is however a weak wind and it just makes it even worse 🙂 It is like walking around in a steam bath where they have a fan working 🙂 The flies are nasty and they are predicting thunder around noon, I do hope they are right this time. We were supposed to have thunder last night but I could just hear it once or twice from a great distance.

I mowed the lawn yesterday, perhaps not the best idea I’ve had in my life 🙂 I figured that it might be the chance I had because it was supposed to rain during the night and we’ll also have rain several days next week. I divided my garden in to four squares and as soon as I had mowed one square I went inside to drink lots of water and to rest for a while. I have to admit that it was much easier than I thought it would be. The grass was really high but dry so it didn’t fill up the mower around the blades like it always does when the grass is wet. My neighbor took most of what I mow outside the garden, he knew I had that high fever. I have the best neighbors one can get!

Finally there's enough water in the clean creak so that Sune can take a bath again :-) Guess if he was happy, he just stood still in that deep hole for a long time :-)

I had to go to the grocery store in Gudhem this morning, cats don’t like it when their food bowl is empty 🙂 I also bought some aspirin, I really can’t take any of those medications since they already have destroyed my stomach but aspirin is one of the few I can take a pill once in a while. I have headache after coughing so much and coffee just don’t help any more. I didn’t see what kind they gave me until I came home, this one is supposed to melt in the mouth. It was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever had 🙂 🙂 🙂 It wasn’t until after I had it I read I could put it in half a glass of water instead 🙂

We’re having a rather wonderful morning here, a bit warm perhaps but a cool breeze helps make it all feel very comfortable. It wasn’t that nice while we were out walking early in the morning though, cloudy and the temperature was actually much lower but the humidity was so high it felt nasty just standing still. Yesterday Great Britain voted to leave the EU, today loads of people say they wish they hadn’t voted like they did, a bit late to change ones mind the day after, isn’t it 🙂 600 000 people have signed a petition that they should get the chance to vote again and that will of course not happen. Donald Trump made himself even more unpopular in Scotland than he already is (which is extraordinary since he really is very disliked there) by saying the Scotts had voted to take back their own country by leaving the EU. The nut head hadn’t checked the Scottish results at all, 60% of the Scottish people voted to stay in the EU 🙂 🙂

I can fully understand why people want to leave the EU. There’s no transparency in how things work, The entire state machinery is fully corrupted even if it has become slightly better now days but they still give lots of EU funded jobs directly to organized crime. The ones working in the parliament, a place which has very little power at all, make more money in a month than most people do in a few years and very few of them pay any taxes at all. They only have to report to the parliament that they are there and they’ll get paid even if they don’t show up anywhere. Most rules to get EU grants are based to how things are in Southern Europe and not at all to how it is up here in the north, so the EU are now destroying the Swedish cow pastures, they say we have too many trees in our pastures and must cut them down. We’ve always had lots of trees here, it gives shelter for the animals for instance, it keeps the soil erosion at a minimum too and the trees give fire wood for the winter.

Last year I got two flowers on my Ahlstromeria, this year it will be covered with them :-) Two mild winters in a row was just what it needed.

Britain will of course not perish because they’ll leave the EU and since this won’t happen over a night we’ll all get used to the idea and things will run as smoothly as always. The EU however might not be the same after this, suddenly people all over Europe demands to have a right to vote about membership too 🙂 I like the idea of a united Europe but since the leaders seems reluctant to fight corruption and to make changes so that it gets more democratic the best thing would perhaps to let it die and to build up something else and actually try to get the people in Europe to like it too 🙂

Midsummer’s eve.

Troll butter.

Troll butter.

Today we celebrate Midsummer’s eve here in Sweden, a holiday as big as Christmas over here. The traditions go way back and the christian church did of course do what it could to make it a truly christian holiday and one could say they failed miserably 🙂 They made tomorrow John the Baptist day since it is 6 months before Christmas day so that sort of fits rather well. If You ask anyone today when John the Baptist’s day is I’m pretty very few would be able to say the right day. For some reason we Swedes always celebrate the eve, never the actual day 🙂 Tomorrow will be a day to cure hangovers for many people and in nine months lots of kids will be born 🙂

The Midsummer pole, some also call it the may pole but in this case the swedish word for may doesn’t mean the month but to dress, is dressed with leafy twigs and flowers. Some say that tradition is very old others that it came from Germany in the early middle ages, what we do know however is that back in the days they had huge bonfires but to be honest, it is not so wise to have if the summer is dry, who knows how well that fire will spread with some help from the wind 🙂 Anyway, the midsummer pole is dressed and risen early in the day and later in the day people will start dancing around it. My favorite song is the little frogs and it is quite fun to see grown up jump like little frogs around the pole 🙂 Another favorite is of course the priest’s little crow who drove a car by himself and we all know that is a pretty difficult task for a crow so he slides here and there until he ends up in the ditch and of course that’s what all dancing will do too 🙂

It doesn’t take a lot of dirty imagination to see what the midsummer pole really is 🙂 and lots of magic is connected to it. The pole is usually made as a big cross and at the end of each side of the cross hang wreaths, those wreaths were important to save because when winter arrived it was important to put in the bath, that would keep You healthy for the rest of the winter and that was very important since they didn’t have any antibiotics. Even though the night is very short here at this time of year it still was important to keep ones eyes open just in case any of the beings we have here would come too close. They were especially active this coming night. A common troll was no big problem, it seems they usually were good friends with humans (and no our trolls don’t burst if the sun hits them or become stone. They also look very much like us with the exception of the long fury tail). A mountain troll however is a nasty piece of work and they would most likely kidnap any human getting to close. They are however easy to see because of their size and they are also rather ugly).

This is how normal trolls look like here. The painter was John Bauer and this painting comes from the boom series Amongst gnomes and trolls. This is about a changeling, the troll mother (to the left) wanted of course the best for her daughter so she swapped babies with a queen. Her daughter was anything but nice though 🙂

This however is a Mountain troll, shrewd but not too intelligent. This is also a John Bauer painting.

Young girls had their best chance of knowing who they would marry this night. They had to, totally quiet until they fell asleep, pass seven (or nine depending on where one lived) fences and pick seven (or nine) flowers to put under their pillow. If they managed to do that they would dream of their husband to be. One way to make sure one would be healthy all year long was to roll around in the midsummer’s morning dew, naked of course. The dew had lots of magical powers so people collected it too in empty jars just in case someone got seriously ill. This was of course the night it was important to collect as much healing herbs as possible, preferable with lots of dew on them. In some places they drank spring. They had beforehand cleaned out a spring in the forest or where ever it might be and during the night they went to the spring and drank the water, that would also secure good health they thought. Naturally that could be a problem because of the spring nymph. If they didn’t sacrifice to the nymph the effect would be quite the opposite.

My throat had been so swollen for a few das that if affected my ears but suddenly I could feel the swelling get smaller, I got my hearing back again 🙂 and my fever vanished and has stayed away all day! I still have that nasty coughing and I’m pretty sure it will stay for at least a few days more. I would feel alive again if it not had been for the rather high temperature outside together with over 95% humidity. It feels like I’m walking in a steam bath 🙂 🙂 An hour ago they predicted rain and thunderstorms but now they say mostly sunny and no thunder at all 🙂 I don’t care because I’ll most likely just sit on my sofa doing nothing. The beekeepers wanted me to come over but I don’t have any energy to do anything 🙂

The fever came back too but today it finally has lowered so much that I think it is over for this time. So it looks like I have been through the worst now but I won’t celebrate until it is over 🙂 I’ve had the kitchen door open as much as possible (we’ve had lots of rain so it has been open in between showers) so that the dogs have been able to go outside as they’ve pleased. Taking walks have not been an option, My energy has run out after just a few yards 🙂 Unfortunately that has meant lots of flies in my home and today I finally gave up and brought out the heavy weapon, fly poison spray! It is some kind of nerve toxin which is harmless for mammals and spiders for instance but very effective towards flies. Smells bad though so I forced the dogs outside while it was doing its job. There will soon be thousand more here but at the moment my home is nicely fly free 🙂

We’ll celebrate Midsummer’s eve here tomorrow, it is almost or perhaps just as big as Christmas here and even though the christian church tried to make it a christian holiday (John the Baptist’s birth day) they failed utterly and it is still a very pagan holiday here. This should of course have been celebrated on the solstice but politicians didn’t seem to like that we had another paid holiday so they moved Midsummer so that Midsummer’s day always came on a Saturday. How they failed, even employers want to have Midsummer’s eve off so together with the unions they decided we should have Midsummer’s eve off but with full pay 🙂 but more about our holiday tomorrow.

As I said yesterday, the evil guy in films like these must be truly evil, not a philosophical mumbo-jumbo character but heroes can be very different, they don’t even have to be good ones for us to accept them. In the Avengers films I don’t think there’s really a single good one, except for possibly Captain America, the rest of them are more or less unstable as best 🙂

That gave me plenty of time to watch dvd’s though 🙂 So this morning I finally watched the last Hunger Games and the latest Star Wars. I liked them both but I have to say that Hunger Games did feel a bit slow some times but loved what happened before it ended.

They do have problems making the evil characters in the Star Wars films. Darth Vader and the emperor was really good but the young Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader was really bad and so was the bad guys in this film too. I think they tried to make then interesting but only managed to make them annoying 🙂 The hero side however is really good but a good film needs a fantastic evil guy, one we all can hate and who is interesting and not someone we all want to die early in the film just because he’s so annoying, or perhaps pathetic is the right word 🙂 🙂 🙂 I do hope they get more evil in the next film 🙂

Yesterday was no fun, the fever went sky-high or at least above 39C (102,2F)., One minute I froze like crazy the next I was boiling. I thought I would watch any of the dvd’s I’ve bought but I didn’t have the energy to start the dvd 🙂 and to be honest, I would most likely have slept through most of the film anyway.

I went to bed wearing thick clothes and after a few hours I woke up and hade to take them off again 🙂 I was surprised to see that it wasn’t pitch black at 1am, there was enough light so I didn’t have to turn on any lamps. I know it wasn’t the moon because it was cloudy all night and it was just minutes ago that we could see the sun for the first time today.

I guess it was a perfect day to get this cold because it rained all day, I couldn’t have done much anyway to be honest. Still this is nothing one wish anyone to get. Today feels better, I’m at least not freezing any longer but my throat is nasty, the headache comes and goes and I’m so tired. I really need to mow the lawn now but there’s just no energy left to do that. We’ll take a short walk though and after that I’ll most likely fall asleep in front of the tv again 🙂

The rain poured down when we woke up and Nova just refused to go outside at all, Sune however loved it and stayed outside for quite some time. I joined Nova in refusing to go outside until the rain had stopped falling. The humidity is up on 99% and it will stay in the upper 90’s all day it seems.

It isn’t especially warm but the humidity made it a bit nasty to walk around. I had my very worn down fleece jacket on, not because of the eventual rain that would fall or because it being a bit chilly, I wore it because of the flies that were nasty yesterday evening. They weren’t this morning, they barely showed up at all 🙂 So I did regret wearing the fleece jacket to be honest.

I have a headache and a very sour throat today, I guess I must pay for having such a wonderful day yesterday. I have plenty of honey and fresh ginger at home though so I’ll fight this cold till the bitter end 🙂 Unfortunately colds coming in summer tends to stay much longer than the ones in winter, yes there are studies showing that so it isn’t just a myth. To be honest, I think this is the same cold I’ve had all winter so I guess this one will follow me for quite some time more 🙂

The most wonderful morning.

From my mormors old camera, the Gevabox.

From my mormors old camera, the Gevabox.

I’ve had the most wonderful morning today. I drove quite early to the hospital to get my insoles and was lucky to be the first one there. I don’t think it took more than five minutes to get them adjusted to my two pair of shoes. After that I drove to the marina, the sun was shining and there was a weak but just enough warm breeze to keep me cool. I took several photos but only with old cameras, it would have been too much with my digital too because old cameras weigh lots more than modern ones.

Vacation season has started and I saw lots of people walking their dogs and I wished I could have brought my two too, Sune would have loved to swim in the lake, Nova would have liked to drink the water 🙂 There was also a big group of Canadian geese and those are not birds to mess with 🙂 They refused to move when I came walking so I had to walk in a half circle around them and realised how much they poop, it looked like lots of smallish dog poops to be honest but they were green 🙂 I also passed through thick clouds of midges, our black flies but they don’t like me especially much thankfully. I think one or maybe two bit me but that’s it.

It was when I walked by the water I suddenly started to long for the ocean. The lake is big enough so it behaves like an ocean in most ways but there it doesn’t smell the same, no salty smell with a touch of seaweed and that smell that is so hard to describe. Small fish jumped up in the air so I think pike, walleye and perch might have been out hunting or perhaps even trout. I guess it would have been a good morning to fish so I almost regretted not bringing a fishing rod. We can fish for free in the ocean and the five big lakes here but we do need a fishing license in almost all other waters.

I parked the car in the center of the city too and walked around for an hour or so before I finally found an open café. Odd that they don’t open early so people can have their morning coffee and a croissant there. I could however get some Thai food already when I arrived in the city, they obviously don’t think it is odd to have cooked food that early in the morning 🙂 I just can’t eat cooked food that early though so I never went in even though it smelled delicious.

I did have some time left when I arrived so I walked around in Falköping too. I bought some tea and the best ice cream there is in that town before I went to the optician which is on the same street.

We managed to take a short walk when I came home, the flies drove Nova crazy so she turned homewards as soon as she could, there aren’t that many flies but they behave insane so I think thunder might come soon, they predict thunder for tomorrow. None had however predicted showers for today and I guess that none of us is surprised that it did rain here 🙂

The rest of the photos were taken with the Balda Jubilette. I still have a long way to go to get really good photos with most of the old cameras, it is a totally different thing to use them.

We’re having a warm afternoon, sunless and windless  and it feels like we were going to get thunder any time soon but I doubt that. The flies behave that crazy as they always do before a good thunderstorm though. It’s odd, almost all of Europe has lots of thunder right now, even our neighboring countries but not a single place here in Sweden 🙂

The rain didn’t just wake up lots of flies it also made the grass start to grow. We didn’t get that much rain here though but it was enough for those two things I’m afraid. Still, mostly non biting but rather irritating flies so far and not so many that I feel the need to wear my mosquito hat even if a few of them tried to see what my ear looks like inside.

First I’ll go to the hospital in Lidköping to get my new insoles and when I’ve done that I’ll walk around some in the city and I’ll bring two old cameras so I can take photographs both in the city and the marina. Lidköping is placed by the biggest lake in Sweden, Vänern (it is by the way the third biggest lake in Europe but still Tiny compared to the big lakes on the American continent).

I also have an appointment with my optician and that’s at 12 so I can’t stay too long in Lidköping because my optician is in Falköping. I think I’ll go to the Tea and Coffee shop in Falköping as well, it’s on the same street as my optician. I’ll not only buy tea they also sell the best ice cream there is, a bit expensive perhaps but well worth it.

To get even further away from the world we took our morning walk out on the bog. We were actually there already yesterday afternoon because my neighbors had been there and told me it was so dry out there that it was possible to walk around without sinking anywhere. I did hesitate a while because I thought there would be lots of ticks, mosquitos and midges there but then again it is voles and mice who spreads ticks more than other animals and voles would drown if they tried to dig in the ground out there and mice stays mostly on the islands so we avoided to walk there.

It is however not that nice that I’ll keep the kitchen door open for more than a few seconds. I've now used my mormors (grandmother on my mother's side) camera. It is a Gevabox that gives 8 photos on a 120 roll film. It has one speed, around 1/30th of a second and three apertures (8, 11 and 16) so it was a bit tricky to use it :-) I used a ISO 50 film. I'll show a photo per day or so and this is the first one. I really liked it but I guess I could be a bit biased since it was my mormors camera :-)

The day has been and still is rather cold and windy but the sun has shined almost all day so it has been bearable but not more.It seems to have been raining quite a lot during the night but nothing can really be seen in the creeks and there are no puddles around that would be great mosquito nurseries either. I’m so tired today but I don’t know why, usually this cold weather does the opposite to me. I fell asleep in front of the tv as soon as we had come home from our walk 🙂 If it hadn’t been for the flies annoying me I would most likely have been asleep yet 🙂 I guess it could be because Nova has kept on waking me up at 4am every morning this week. I would most likely have woken up shortly after that time anyway but it is something else to be woken up with the help from someone else. Today however she didn’t, this time it was the alarm and that felt even worse 🙂

The one I buy all my film from sometimes sell packages with mixed films, black and white but with different ISO's. This is a roll with ISO 3200 so it is very light sensitive, nothing to be used on a sunny and bright day so guess if I felt lucky that morning we got that really thick fog :-) I still had a few photos left to take so I took them another early morning before the sun had risen too high. So here are three photos taken with my Hasselblad.

This is a roll with ISO 3200 so it is very light-sensitive, nothing to be used on a sunny and bright day so guess if I felt lucky that morning we got that really thick fog 🙂 I still had a few photos left to take so I took them another early morning before the sun had risen too high. So here are three photos taken with my Hasselblad. Not even that camera could make the film less grainy because that light-sensitive film is alway very grainy.

We had our annual road association meeting yesterday evening, something we all fear will drag on and on until we all think bad thoughts about what we want to do with the person/ persons who are responsible for just continuing talking about other things than the road. It was the best meeting ever 🙂 We were just five people there, we agreed on everything and I think the meeting took around ten minutes, we had coffee and cookies for an hour after that 🙂 or as we call if we had a fika 🙂

I woke up to a nasty cold world at around 4am this morning. Nova is not a cuddly dog anytime really but she has decided she will be that around 4am every morning. I really can’t get angry even if I would wish that she could be it slightly later in the morning 🙂 Anyway, I looked at the thermometer and it showed -2,6C (27,3F) but the sun was rising so we went out for a walk. It was enough with a fleece jacket as long as we walked in the sunshine, it was far from enough when we walked in the shadows 🙂 Still I didn’t mind, no flies were out flying in those temperatures and it looks like my tomatoes survived yet another frosty morning!

We’ll be at the edge of a low pressure tomorrow and all weather sites predict lots of rain during the night and the Norwegian even predicts thunder. It will be a bit too cool tomorrow but it all depends on which side of the low pressure we’ll be on. I really don’t want any rain but I guess that since the ground is as dry as it is most will just be sucked up by all the trees and the grass but I fear it will wake up all those blood sucking biting flies. We already have some of them, the biggest ones that can be heard from a great distance but those are easy to keep on a distance (which means easy to hit in the air 🙂 ).

I’m sort of lazy when it comes to shaving so long periods I have the right style with a hipster beard 🙂 Yesterday I thought it was time to get rid of it and brought out my trimmer. I stood in the bathroom and trimmed away when the machine, wich has a cord, started to hack. I didn’t think much of it but tried to keep the cord in a way that it at least would work until I was finished.

I never remember what this flower is called. I have it in my garden and it is a native plant.

Suddenly big flames came out of the machine! I shouted something like AAAAAH in a high-pitched voice and was about to toss it in the sink but realised that would be a rather stupid idea since I had a newspaper there to collect all the hair, that would have been a smelly start of a nice fire 🙂 So I dropped it on the floor, still burning and tore out the cord from the jacket but the bl…. thing kept on burning 🙂 So I ran out to the kitchen and tossed it in that sink instead. I tossed it in a clay pot and placed it in the garden during the night 🙂 I looked slightly derange in my face, some places had still lots of beard left and it was a bit tricky to shave it all off 🙂

My printer hate me too! We’re going to have our annual road association meeting so I was going to print out the calling to the meeting and also last years protocol. I had bought black ink this year since it refused to print out anything no matter what color I chose as long as there was no black print. So I was printing out the calling when I noticed that the text was clear blue! I know I had adjusted the printer for black text but still there it was in clear blue 🙂 As soon as all calling notes had been printed the printer told me I had no blue ink left. No problems I thought, I’ll get the protocol in black so I don’t need blue.

Of course I needed blue, it refused to print anything in black as long as I didn’t have blue print! So away to Falköping I went and bought blue print and when I came back it didn’t fit! I had of course tossed away the old cassette, which by the way had just enough blue ink in it to color my both hand very blue. So back to the store minutes before they closed and I just bought a cassette which I thought looked the same and to my big surprise it was the right kind. So finally I could print the protocol. Guess if I got surprised that every letter it printed just had the edges in black, inside it was totally white?!

It didn’t matter what I did it continued in the same way. So then I thought, I have a lot of blue ink now so if I adjust the printer to make the letters very dark blue instead, that should make the text look almost black. I now have the protocol and the text is purple and I have given up 🙂 I truly hate printers but I need one and every year it is the same battle and the printer always win 🙂

It is time for something to eat and after that I’ll see if there’s anything interesting on tv. I now have a channel for free again (I don’t know for how long though, it can be gone tomorrow or in two weeks), it shows all my favorite comedies but there’s one problem, there’s no sound 🙂 I can however say that since we always have subtitles in shows made in another language it is just as fun anyway 🙂

Downhill from now on.

DSC_0021 (3)

Just as nice weather today as yesterday, lots of sunshine, just enough warm and a nice breeze to keep us cool while being in the sunshine. From now on it will go downhill with the weather. It will get cooler, almost cold if the predictions are right (which I doubt since they rarely are) and we might get rain. Farmers might want rain but I’m quite happy without it, just think of all the time I save on lawn mowing 🙂

I woke up before the sun rose today (which by the way was at 4:05 am) but since it is very bright long before the sun rise we went out on our morning walk. It was almost as chilly as yesterday but a worn down fleece jacket was just enough to keep me warm. Lots of birds flew around but most other animals seemed to rather take it easy a few more minutes. I could hear the ravens argue again and today I know why, crows have moved in on their area. They truly don’t like each other.

Ravens are much bigger and stronger than crows but crows are faster and more agile in the air so it looks like they manage to drive off the ravens and they are not happy about it. I’m pretty sure the ravens will get the place back because they often hang out in groups of several generations and as soon as the older ones can leave their nests the crows will be history. Nice to see them here for a while though, I like our crows.

It is our National day today but very few know why we celebrate it, to be honest we haven’t had a national day for especially long, today used to be the Swedish Flag Day. What we are celebrating is that on June sixth 1523 Gustav Vasa became our king. He was a tyrant that happily slaughtered the ones that had helped him to power, he also was the one making sure the first son of the ruling king would be the king to come. He had three (official) sons who all were more or less insane and all became king of this country. The oldest one for instance Eric 14, married his concubine and he was later imprisoned by his brothers and poisoned with arsenic put in his pea soup. His wife and children were moved to Finland but alive and not allowed to ever claim the crown.

We have the biggest colony of Black-headed gull (we call them laughing gulls) in Scandinavia up in the lake. They have been coming here a lot lately and they do like to argue with the Jackdaws.

The second reason is that we in 1809 got a new constitution which gave the king less power and the parliament more. The first reason is just stupid to celebrate since he was anything but a pleasant ruler but the second is a good reason but nothing we go out and celebrates on the streets 🙂 They are trying to make this day to something big. like in Norway or the USA but most of us just enjoy the weather if it is nice 🙂 The ones truly celebrating this day are either the extreme right or immigrants, an odd combination 🙂

It was actually really, really nice but I did wear a fleece jacket. The sun warms us up but the shadows are a tad cold for quite some time. We still have very low humidity so no morning dew today either. That however means the ticks won’t be around either so even if I miss the dew I really like the tick situation 🙂 Not many other animals around either to be honest but the ravens had a huge fight with something, they were so noisy that they could be heard all over the village.

I’ve done something with my right thumb, I don’t know what but it hurts like h… every time I move it 🙂 I haven’t hit it in anything and I have no smaller or bigger wounds in it either. I noticed the pain yesterday evening and thought that it would be gone this morning but it got worse instead. I can move it and it gets a bit better if I continue to move it every now and again but as soon as I keep it still for a few minutes it’s the same again. This is not a week to not being able to work because I’m the only painter who will be there all week. Lots of school graduations next week too. Thankfully I’m ambidexter so as long as nothing happens to my left hand things would work 🙂

I must go to the super market today. I really need mosquito nets and I’ll see if I can find a small fan too, just in case the heat returns. We all fear that this was the summer we’ll get this year. Last year started out much the same (less hot though) and as soon as our vacations started the cold and rainy weather came to stay. Looking at it statistically if May is hot June will be cool and July hot. Almost always a lot of rain though because the summer months here are also the ones with most water falling from the sky. Climate change however has changed things so now the weather turns anywhere all the time 🙂

I don’t want to goo to early just in case the dogs would start to bark in the dog yard when I drive away. They say they rarely do but if they do it will of course be on a Sunday morning 🙂 Normally I would be really annoyed if I had to go to a supermarket on a Sunday but we’re having a holiday tomorrow, our national day, so it doesn’t feel like I’m destroying the last day of the weekend.

I really hate to complain when we actually get warm summer weather as we have so far but it was just too warm yesterday, we Swedes aren’t used to have temperatures up to 31C (87,8F). Normally our summers are cool and rainy, so the weather we just had was a dream come true for us 🙂 I think I would have liked it better if I hadn’t been working beside a huge oven and a huge washing machine that pours out steam that fills the entire place where I work 🙂

I could feel the difference in the air as soon as I opened the kitchen door (it will cool down to only 21C (69,8F) today, normal summer temperatures 🙂 ), the air was cool, almost chilly and even felt a bit humid, it is around 50% so it is actually a bit low and will drop even more later during the day. One weather site says we might get a few drops of rain another says we won’t. I don’t long for rain because it is now so dry in the ground that the lawn doesn’t grow and that I like 🙂 Also, all puddles and most small creeks are now bone dry so that means fewer mosquitos and hopefully fewer biting flies too 🙂 I’m not sure farmers like it this dry though but at the moment I really don’t care 🙂

It would be nice if they actually were gone by the time my vacation starts but I guess that would be to hope for too much 🙂

I stopped by the grocery store in Gudhem on my way home and the owner gave me a small Tamarind tree. I’ve always wanted to sow one myself but one never knows how well those seeds germinate. She had sown this one six months ago and I think I’ll have a good chance on keeping it alive. No bigger problems if we’ll get a warm summer but the indoors air is usually too dry for most plants growing in hotter regions and we just have too little daylight during winter but I’ll do what I can.
