I only woke up once last night and managed to fall asleep again after ten minutes or so. Still I was so tired when the alarm sett off that I almost seriously considered to come late to work ๐Ÿ™‚ Still the day has passed rather quickly and I did feel less tired while I was at work.

It has been mostly cloudy with some rain today and a few seconds of sunshine too. The humidity is as high as it can get, around 99% and will stay like that until tomorrow night. I guess I should be happy about temperatures being rather low because 99% humidity and high temperatures are really nasty, now it will stay close to unpleasant as worst ๐Ÿ™‚

The weather predictions varies faster than the speed of light ๐Ÿ™‚ We might get lots of thunder and rain this weekend but it can also be only light showers and perhaps some sunshine too. I would like to mow the lawn this weekend but I won’t do that if the grass is wet. Too much work to clean out the mower during and after using it on wet grass. I would like to have one of those robot mowers, they are quite popular here but still a bit too expensive for my taste. Now it would work rather well in my garden since the two big hole diggers aren’t around any more. Nova and Sune are content in just eating the leafs of the dandelions and don’t dig up the roots ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great day!

It finally opened up.

My Pink Dandelion! Only half the flower openbed up yesterday (the deep pink part) and only for an hour or so before it closed again. My guess is that what looks more or less white now will be more pink tomorrow. This is a rare dandelion from the Himalayan mountains. I had lots of small plants last spring but Orvar and Hector ate most of them :-) :-) I really couldn't complain since I always gave them the dug up dandelions from my flowerbeds :-)

It is another steam bath day, high humidity and rather warm. There is however a weak wind and it just makes it even worse ๐Ÿ™‚ It is like walking around in a steam bath where they have a fan working ๐Ÿ™‚ The flies are nasty and they are predicting thunder around noon, I do hope they are right this time. We were supposed to have thunder last night but I could just hear it once or twice from a great distance.

I mowed the lawn yesterday, perhaps not the best idea I’ve had in my life ๐Ÿ™‚ I figured that it might be the chance I had because it was supposed to rain during the night and we’ll also have rain several days next week. I divided my garden in to four squares and as soon as I had mowed one square I went inside to drink lots of water and to rest for a while. I have to admit that it was much easier than I thought it would be. The grass was really high but dry so it didn’t fill up the mower around the blades like it always does when the grass is wet. My neighbor took most of what I mow outside the garden, he knew I had that high fever. I have the best neighbors one can get!

Finally there's enough water in the clean creak so that Sune can take a bath again :-) Guess if he was happy, he just stood still in that deep hole for a long time :-)

I had to go to the grocery store in Gudhem this morning, cats don’t like it when their food bowl is empty ๐Ÿ™‚ I also bought some aspirin, I really can’t take any of those medications since they already have destroyed my stomach but aspirin is one of the few I can take a pill once in a while. I have headache after coughing so much and coffee just don’t help any more. I didn’t see what kind they gave me until I came home, this one is supposed to melt in the mouth. It was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever had ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ It wasn’t until after I had it I read I could put it in half a glass of water instead ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve had the most wonderful morning today. I drove quite early to the hospital to get my insoles and was lucky to be the first one there. I don’t think it took more than five minutes to get them adjusted to my two pair of shoes. After that I drove to the marina, the sun was shining and there was a weak but just enough warm breeze to keep me cool. I took several photos but only with old cameras, it would have been too much with my digital too because old cameras weigh lots more than modern ones.

Vacation season has started and I saw lots of people walking their dogs and I wished I could have brought my two too, Sune would have loved to swim in the lake, Novaย would have liked to drink the water ๐Ÿ™‚ There was also a big group of Canadian geese and those are not birds to mess with ๐Ÿ™‚ They refused to move when I came walking so I had to walk in a half circle around them and realised how much they poop, it looked like lots of smallish dog poops to be honest but they were green ๐Ÿ™‚ I also passed through thick clouds of midges, our black flies but they don’t like me especially much thankfully. I think one or maybe two bit me but that’s it.

It was when I walked by the water I suddenly started to long for the ocean. The lake is big enough so it behaves like an ocean in most ways but there it doesn’t smell the same, no salty smell with a touch of seaweed and that smell that is so hard to describe. Small fish jumped up in the air so I think pike, walleye and perch might have been out hunting or perhaps even trout. I guess it would have been a good morning to fish so I almost regretted not bringing a fishing rod. We can fish for free in the ocean and the five big lakes here but we do need a fishing license in almost all other waters.

I could however get some Thai food already when I arrived in the city, they obviously don’t think it is odd to have cooked food that early in the morning ๐Ÿ™‚ I just can’t eat cooked food that early though so I never went in even though it smelled delicious.

I've now used my mormors (grandmother on my mother's side) camera. It is a Gevabox that gives 8 photos on a 120 roll film. I really liked it but I guess I could be a bit biased since it was my mormors camera :-)

I know I had adjusted the printer for black text but still there it was in clear blue ๐Ÿ™‚ As soon as all calling notes had been printed the printer told me I had no blue ink left. Ravens are much bigger and stronger than crows but crows are faster and more agile in the air so it looks like they manage to drive off the ravens and they are not happy about it. I’m pretty sure the ravens will get the place back because they often hang out in groups of several generations and as soon as the older ones can leave their nests the crows will be history. It is our National day today but very few know why we celebrate it, to be honest we haven’t had a national day for especially long, today used to be the Swedish Flag Day. What we are celebrating is that on June sixth 1523 Gustav Vasa became our king. He was a tyrant that happily slaughtered the ones that had helped him to power, he also was the one making sure the first son of the ruling king would be the king to come. He had three (official) sons who all were more or less insane and all became king of this country. The oldest one for instance Eric 14, married his concubine and he was later imprisoned by his brothers and poisoned with arsenic put in his pea soup. The second reason is that we in 1809 got a new constitution which gave the king less power and the parliament more. The first reason is just stupid to celebrate since he was anything but a pleasant ruler but the second is a good reason but nothing we go out and celebrates on the streets ๐Ÿ™‚ They are trying to make this day to something big. like in Norway or the USA but most of us just enjoy the weather if it is nice ๐Ÿ™‚ The ones truly celebrating this day are either the extreme rightย or immigrants, an odd combination ๐Ÿ™‚

We’re back at more normal summer temperatures here now, around 22C (71,6F) during the day and around 10C (50F) during the night but this night was a bit more chilly. That however means the ticks won’t be around either so even if I miss the dew I really like the tick situation ๐Ÿ™‚ Not many other animals around either to be honest but the ravens had a huge fight with something, they were so noisy that they could be heard all over the village.

I noticed the pain yesterday evening and thought that it would be gone this morning but it got worse instead. I can move it and it gets a bit better if I continue to move it every now and again but as soon as I keep it still for a few minutes it’s the same again. This is not a week to not being able to work because I’m the only painter who will be there all week. Lots of school graduations next week too. I must go to the super market today. I really need mosquito nets and I’ll see if I can find a small fan too, just in case the heat returns. We all fear that this was the summer we’ll get this year. Last year started out much the same (less hot though) and as soon as our vacations started the cold and rainy weather came to stay. Looking at it statistically if May is hot June will be cool and July hot. Almost always a lot of rain though because the summer months here are also the ones with most water falling from the sky. Climate change however has changed things so now the weather turns anywhere all the time ๐Ÿ™‚

They say they rarely do but if they do it will of course be on a Sunday morning ๐Ÿ™‚ Normally I would be really annoyed if I had to go to a supermarket on a Sunday but we’re having a holiday tomorrow, our national day, so it doesn’t feel like I’m destroying the last day of the weekend.

I really hate to complain when we actually get warm summer weather as we have so far but it was just too warm yesterday, we Swedes aren’t used to have temperatures up to 31C (87,8F). Normally our summers are cool and rainy, so the weather we just had was a dream come true for us ๐Ÿ™‚ I think I would have liked it better if I hadn’t been working beside a huge oven and a huge washing machine that pours out steam that fills the entire place where I work ๐Ÿ™‚

I could feel the difference in the air as soon as I opened the kitchen door (it will cool down to only 21C (69,8F) today, normal summer temperatures ๐Ÿ™‚ ), the air was cool, almost chilly and even felt a bit humid, it is around 50% so it is actually a bit low and will drop even more later during the day. One weather site says we might get a few drops of rain another says we won’t. I don’t long for rain because it is now so dry in the ground that the lawn doesn’t grow and that I like ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, all puddles and most small creeks are now bone dry so that means fewer mosquitos and hopefully fewer biting flies too ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m not sure farmers like it this dry though but at the moment I really don’t care ๐Ÿ™‚

DSC_0045 (13)

According to the weather sites it is raining here right now but as far as I can see through the windows it doesn’t. Showers are of course always hard to predict, it might in fact rain on the other side of my cottage without me knowing it. It is a fairly warm morning with a brisk breeze and high humidity and it could have been rather nice if the humidity had been lower. The more the day passes by the better the weather will be and the lower humidity will be as well.

We walked down to the creek this morning and there was this rather big raptor up in the sky, normally they never come especially close but I was lucky today. Of course I saw lots of small birds but they didn’t come close enough so I at least could try to identify them. I did however find lots of wildlife in Sune’s fur when we came home, I had to pick several ticks and I got all of them before they had bitten. They are now all dead ๐Ÿ™‚

The day has so far been rather lovely, sunny and rather warm with a cool breeze. I can however see the cold front coming and it begins with thunder clouds. We were out walking when I heard the first rumbling sounds. We didn’t hurry home though because at that moment the sky still was almost clear blue.

I had hopes of mowing the lawn today but the rumbling sounds grew bigger and the thunderclouds too so I think I’ll skip that today. There’s something with thunder and electric lawn mowers that sort of don’t go together if You understand how I mean ๐Ÿ™‚ The thunderstorm doesn’t move fast though so I will have an hour or two more before it moves in to my neighborhood. It might even miss us totally, the mountain has a tendency to get the thunder instead.

I now have a rubber tube in the air leaking tire. It turned out to be the rim that wasn’t good enough. We could see small bubbles when we (well it sounds as if I actually did something, it was the garage owner of course :-)) put the tire in water. I do hope that the rest of the tires stay filled with air now, I am a bit tired to have to fill them up twice a week ๐Ÿ™‚

My car is leaking a bit too much oil now, not on the ground but inside the motor. So I asked the garage owner if he possibly had another car for sale at the moment. Ok it is no panic to change car, I really like this one but it is no use in repairing it any longer. He didn’t have any right now but he will keep his eyes open, preferable a SAAB but I’m not picky. It would however be nice to not have to buy new rims every time I buy a new car ๐Ÿ™‚

This is one of those rare days.

1

This is one of those rareย days when it is just too good weather to stay indoors in front of a computer. These days usually only come when it is early in spring or summer or the season we call presummer (yes one word as we would do it in Swedish ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

One cherry tree is in bloom in the vilage.

One cherry tree is in bloom in the village.

It isn’t as nice to be in the factory warm days like this but I refuse to complain since it will be just as nice after work. I had the bedroom window open for the first time last night, I love nature but there’s this one bird that I wouldn’t mind if the hawk took ๐Ÿ™‚ It has two tones and it used those tones all night and loud too ๐Ÿ™‚

Another fantastic day :-)

‘It is warm today, it went above 21C (69,8F) already at 10 am and it looks like it will continue to rise for yet some time, yesterday we reached 24C (75,2F) and that was a few degrees higher than predicted. There’s no wind at the moment either so it feels warmer than it is. I’m enjoying it to the fullest, this might be the summer we’ll get this year. Last summer started much the same and after that it was mostly cool and rainy.

I wore a fleece jacket when we went out this morning and it turned out to be too much. I didn’t regret it though because we walked through lots of bushes and god knows how many ticks that might have been in them ๐Ÿ™‚ I have to say though that I haven’t picked that many ticks from either dog, Nova prefers to walk in open spaces where there are no bushes and the grass is low. Sune he takes his baths and I think that rinseย away some of the ticks that are in his fur.

I’ve done almost all the laundry already, I still have the working t-shirt left to do though. I really can’t wash it with any other clothes, the powder paint that still is in the t-shirt has a habit to stuck on the rest of the clothes instead. It is very easy to brush off but still annoys me. The rest of the laundry is now hanging on the patio to dry.

One problem when summer start this early is to keep calm in placing more sensitive plants outside too early. We can and often do get frost here the first week in June but already now nights are warm (Scandinavian warm that is). I would like to have my tomato plants, the two I have, outside already now. I can of course bring them indoors if they threaten us with frosty nights but the pots will be rather heavy to carry and I’m not sure covering them will be enough.

I also have several Tamarillos which need both bigger pots and more light. I know that when the are acclimated to an outside life they will manage to survive down to at least 0C (32F). I once had one growing in a south heading window when I lived in Gothenburg. It grew really large and even gave me fruit but I tossed it away since it really smalls rather nasty if touched and for some reason one does that every time no matter how careful one is ๐Ÿ™‚

The plants that I really! want to get outside though are the Naranjilla (Solanum quitoense). It too can take low temperatures since it likes to grow on heights above 1500 meter ( 4921 feet) above the ocean. The problem with them are the thorns. Nasty sharp that goes straight through the skin and are impossible to get out again ๐Ÿ™‚ It has those thorns both on the stems and the leafs ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve heard the fruit is delicious so I just had to try and grow it, no matter how thorny it is ๐Ÿ™‚

There were two too my big surprise.

DSC_0040

It didn’t look especially nice outside when I looked through the windows, a bit dark and dreary to be honest. I have to say it was actually quite nice when we were out walking even if it was around 0C (32F) but since there is no wind at all it is quite pleasant outside. Ok the humidity is sky-high but I can take that when it is a bit chilly.

Beside the bird song not a sound could be heard. I had hoped to see a badger today but they always seem to have gone back to bed when we’re out walking. I can’t complain though since we saw lots of other animals instead today. First I saw a cat hiding in a ditch and managed to distract Sune so he would try to say hi to it, not all cats like that ๐Ÿ™‚

After that we walked in to a deer, she didn’t care much about us. She just stood there watching us pass by and then she continued to grace as if nothing had happened. Canadian geese came flying from all directions out to the fields to graze as well, we have many more here now than what we had when I moved here. We also saw a couple of Greylag geese flying above us and those were rare here back in those days.

We didn’t go far until I saw a fox. I tried to get as close as possible and at the same time tried to tell a more or less deaf dog to come closer to me without alerting it ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ Nova just kept on walking like always so we didn’t get as close as I had hoped but I did get a few photographs of it anyway. To my big surprise another fox turned up when the first one ran away, so both mother and father fox were out hunting, that must mean the pups are big enough to be left alone now.

Playing fox cubs are the cutest thing there is and I once hired a summer cottage a bit north. There was a small village with two grocery stores! nearby (today it is surprising if a village has anything at all to be honest) and I had decided to walk to one of the grocery stores to get a few things I needed. On my way back to the cottage I suddenly saw five small fox cubs playing on the gravel road. The clouds are getting thinner and my aunt in Gothenburg just texted me that they have sunshine and 20C (68F) in the sun at 8:30 in the morning. So that’s what I am waiting for right now. I don’t trust our weather predictions but they sound pretty nice at the moment, sunshine the entire next week and they think we might reach 20C (68F) in the shadows by the end of next weekend, that would be nice especially since I have a long weekend then. Ascension day is on Thursday and it is a holiday here and I’ve taken Friday off ๐Ÿ™‚

It is supposed to be raining here right now, it doesn’t. I’m not complaining, just saying that they haven’t been quite accurate in their predictions ๐Ÿ™‚ They also predicted, when I checked this morning, that we wouldn’t get any sunshine today, we did ๐Ÿ™‚ It is a low pressure that gives them problems with their predictions, they just can’t figure out how fast it will move eastwards.

The day has so far been rather nice with slightly higher temperatures than predicted too. A strong wind does its best to destroy the feeling of spring but it has failed miserable, the wind is nicely warm but so strong that my cottage is trembling and squeaking when the gusts hit. That doesn’t happen often, normally the wind can’t reach my home. Still, it is rather nice outside and we’ve been on walks two times already and after this we’ll go out again, if the rain actually doesn’t come.

I stood outside when I repotted my pelargoniums (some of You english speaking call them geraniums), it turned out to be rather practical since all the dry and loose soil flew away with the wind ๐Ÿ™‚ I also repotted an old Flowering Maple (Abutilon and we actually have the same name on it in Swedish). It didn’t look too happy and I hope it survives. I have taken cuttings from it before and took a few today as well. No big plans for the rest of the weekend though, I rarely have any big plans at all to be honest ๐Ÿ™‚ If the rain starts to fall I will watch one of the movies I bought yesterday, if it doesn’t I think we’ll be outside for most of the day, well I will take a short nap though after the walk we’ll take after writing this.

Walpurgis was if I remember right an English princess who became a nun in Germany and fought against witches which all were evil of course with great success. To be honest, the witches I know wouldn’t hurt a fly but lots of christians who I know would gladly kill anyone in the name of the religion. That was unfortunately the way christianity was spread not by free choise but by violence and death.

The white one behaved as it should and I started to think I was going back to my ordinary work plcae rather early. The dark one however didn’t behave as it should. None of the weather sites had predicted anything else than rain so snow was not even something I have remotely considered to see. I did mow the lawn yesterday and even though I knew the grass had been growing quite a lot I still got surprised over how much grass the collector collected. I had to empty it several times, perhaps a good thing since it most likely insulated the compost against the really cold night.
