It is still a bit too expensive.
I only woke up once last night and managed to fall asleep again after ten minutes or so. Still I was so tired when the alarm sett off that I almost seriously considered to come late to work ๐ Still the day has passed rather quickly and I did feel less tired while I was at work.
It has been mostly cloudy with some rain today and a few seconds of sunshine too. The humidity is as high as it can get, around 99% and will stay like that until tomorrow night. I guess I should be happy about temperatures being rather low because 99% humidity and high temperatures are really nasty, now it will stay close to unpleasant as worst ๐
The weather predictions varies faster than the speed of light ๐ We might get lots of thunder and rain this weekend but it can also be only light showers and perhaps some sunshine too. I would like to mow the lawn this weekend but I won’t do that if the grass is wet. Too much work to clean out the mower during and after using it on wet grass. I would like to have one of those robot mowers, they are quite popular here but still a bit too expensive for my taste. Now it would work rather well in my garden since the two big hole diggers aren’t around any more. Nova and Sune are content in just eating the leafs of the dandelions and don’t dig up the roots ๐
It is time to give the dogs their food and after that I’ll give myself something too.
Have a great day!
It finally opened up.
It is another steam bath day, high humidity and rather warm. There is however a weak wind and it just makes it even worse ๐ It is like walking around in a steam bath where they have a fan working ๐ The flies are nasty and they are predicting thunder around noon, I do hope they are right this time. We were supposed to have thunder last night but I could just hear it once or twice from a great distance.
I mowed the lawn yesterday, perhaps not the best idea I’ve had in my life ๐ I figured that it might be the chance I had because it was supposed to rain during the night and we’ll also have rain several days next week. I divided my garden in to four squares and as soon as I had mowed one square I went inside to drink lots of water and to rest for a while. I have to admit that it was much easier than I thought it would be. The grass was really high but dry so it didn’t fill up the mower around the blades like it always does when the grass is wet. My neighbor took most of what I mow outside the garden, he knew I had that high fever. I have the best neighbors one can get!
I had to go to the grocery store in Gudhem this morning, cats don’t like it when their food bowl is empty ๐ I also bought some aspirin, I really can’t take any of those medications since they already have destroyed my stomach but aspirin is one of the few I can take a pill once in a while. I have headache after coughing so much and coffee just don’t help any more. I didn’t see what kind they gave me until I came home, this one is supposed to melt in the mouth. It was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever had ๐ ๐ ๐ It wasn’t until after I had it I read I could put it in half a glass of water instead ๐
I have some laundry to do but that’s it today. I’ll just relax all day and hope that the aspirin helps with the coughing too so that I at least get one night of sleep before work tomorrow ๐
Have a great day!
The evil ones need to be extra evil!
The dogs are bored, I’m at home and therefore we should be outside walking all day like we do on work free days. They constantly wants me to open the door and when I don’t follow them out they go inside again sighing highly ๐ It is however not the nicest of weathers outside even if it isn’t that bad either. Mostly cloudy with a strong wind and below 20C (68F) temperatures.
Yesterday I sowed the last vegetables in my vegetable patch. Red carrots, chard, broccoli and a few squash seeds. A bit late for squash but then again those plants usually give too much anyway so I think I’ll get just enough this year. I have plenty of green tomatoes but no ripe ones, we need a few days with sunshine to make them red I think.
The fever has sunken rather a lot so I hope it’ll be gone by tomorrow. It came back during the night for a while so I woke up every time I either froze or boiled and gave up at 4am and went up. That gave me plenty of time to watch dvd’s though ๐ So this morning I finally watched the last Hunger Games and the latest Star Wars. I liked them both but I have to say that Hunger Games did feel a bit slow some times but loved what happened before it ended.
They do have problems making the evil characters in the Star Wars films. Darth Vader and the emperor was really good but the young Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader was really bad and so was the bad guys in this film too. I think they tried to make then interesting but only managed to make them annoying ๐ The hero side however is really good but a good film needs a fantastic evil guy, one we all can hate and who is interesting and not someone we all want to die early in the film just because he’s so annoying, or perhaps pathetic is the right word ๐ ๐ ๐ I do hope they get more evil in the next film ๐
It is time to start fixing the food for the dogs and a big pot of coffee for me, I’m already tired and would like to be able to stay up until at least 9pm ๐
Have a great day!
I’ll have lots of ginger and honey!
The rain poured down when we woke up and Nova just refused to go outside at all, Sune however loved it and stayed outside for quite some time. I joined Nova in refusing to go outside until the rain had stopped falling. The humidity is up on 99% and it will stay in the upper 90’s all day it seems.
It isn’t especially warm but the humidity made it a bit nasty to walk around. I had my very worn down fleece jacket on, not because of the eventual rain that would fall or because it being a bit chilly, I wore it because of the flies that were nasty yesterday evening. They weren’t this morning, they barely showed up at all ๐ So I did regret wearing the fleece jacket to be honest.
I have a headache and a very sour throat today, I guess I must pay for having such a wonderful day yesterday. I have plenty of honey and fresh ginger at home though so I’ll fight this cold till the bitter end ๐ Unfortunately colds coming in summer tends to stay much longer than the ones in winter, yes there are studies showing that so it isn’t just a myth. To be honest, I think this is the same cold I’ve had all winter so I guess this one will follow me for quite some time more ๐
It is time to make a pot of tea, put in ginger and honey and after that take a nap. The kitchen door will stay open as long as the rain don’t fall so the dogs and cats can go in and out as they please, normally that means they’ll all stay indoors all the time ๐
Have a great day!
The most wonderful morning.
I’ve had the most wonderful morning today. I drove quite early to the hospital to get my insoles and was lucky to be the first one there. I don’t think it took more than five minutes to get them adjusted to my two pair of shoes. After that I drove to the marina, the sun was shining and there was a weak but just enough warm breeze to keep me cool. I took several photos but only with old cameras, it would have been too much with my digital too because old cameras weigh lots more than modern ones.
Vacation season has started and I saw lots of people walking their dogs and I wished I could have brought my two too, Sune would have loved to swim in the lake, Novaย would have liked to drink the water ๐ There was also a big group of Canadian geese and those are not birds to mess with ๐ They refused to move when I came walking so I had to walk in a half circle around them and realised how much they poop, it looked like lots of smallish dog poops to be honest but they were green ๐ I also passed through thick clouds of midges, our black flies but they don’t like me especially much thankfully. I think one or maybe two bit me but that’s it.
It was when I walked by the water I suddenly started to long for the ocean. The lake is big enough so it behaves like an ocean in most ways but there it doesn’t smell the same, no salty smell with a touch of seaweed and that smell that is so hard to describe. Small fish jumped up in the air so I think pike, walleye and perch might have been out hunting or perhaps even trout. I guess it would have been a good morning to fish so I almost regretted not bringing a fishing rod. We can fish for free in the ocean and the five big lakes here but we do need a fishing license in almost all other waters.
I parked the car in the center of the city too and walked around for an hour or so before I finally found an open cafรฉ. Odd that they don’t open early so people can have their morning coffee and a croissant there. I could however get some Thai food already when I arrived in the city, they obviously don’t think it is odd to have cooked food that early in the morning ๐ I just can’t eat cooked food that early though so I never went in even though it smelled delicious.
It takes around an hour to get to Falkรถping from Lidkรถping if one drives legally ๐ so I had to leave before 11am if I wanted to be in time for my appointment at the optician. I did have some time left when I arrived so I walked around in Falkรถping too. I bought some tea and the best ice cream there is in that town before I went to the optician which is on the same street.
We managed to take a short walk when I came home, the flies drove Nova crazy so she turned homewards as soon as she could, there aren’t that many flies but they behave insane so I think thunder might come soon, they predict thunder for tomorrow. None had however predicted showers for today and I guess that none of us is surprised that it did rain here ๐
It is time for a pot of tea and after that a walk if the flies starts to behave normal again.
Have a great day!
A rather perfect morning.
We’re having a rather wonderful morning here at the outskirts of the world. Sunny, warm and with a weak wind just enough cool to make it even more pleasant. Always flies in the air but still unusually few and even fewer ticks of which I’m thankful.
ย
To get even further away from the world we took our morning walk out on the bog. We were actually there already yesterday afternoon because my neighbors had been there and told me it was so dry out there that it was possible to walk around without sinking anywhere. I did hesitate a while because I thought there would be lots of ticks, mosquitos and midges there but then again it is voles and mice who spreads ticks more than other animals and voles would drown if they tried to dig in the ground out there and mice stays mostly on the islands so we avoided to walk there.
I climbed up one of the hunting towers in the hope of seeing some wildlife but except for small birds I couldn’t see anything but trees and cotton-grass. To be honest it was enough for me that there were no biting insects and hardly any other flies either ๐ They all seems to have moved in to my cottage instead ๐ I really need to buy more sticky fly paper again.
I better go outside to water the pots now since we’re going to have sunshine all day and after that I’ll have a pot of tea, one can never have too much tea in life ๐
Have a great day!
Still a bit chilly.
We’re having a chilly, windy but mostly sunny morning here. It is sweater weather even if one walks in shelter of the wind but kind of nice anyway. It is however not that nice that I’ll keep the kitchen door open for more than a few seconds. I guess that’s why the dogs wants to go out and in all the time, when it stays open all day they usually don’t feel the need to go in and out at all ๐
No big plans for today. I might go outside and sow those last vegetable seeds I still haven’t sown. A good thing I didn’t since we had frost the other day. Sometimes it pays off being lazy because they had not survived such a cold night ๐
Perhaps I finally will watch one of all the dvd’s I’ve bought. I still haven’t watched the last Hunger Games movie or the latest Star Wars movie and I have continued to buy dvd’s so I have plenty to watch when I finally start :-)I also have several books that I’ve bought but not come around to read.
I can always do the laundry but that can wait until tomorrow or I can do some today and some tomorrow. All these choices and still nothing to do as I so often heard when I was a kid ๐
We came really close and they weren’t especially bothered by us at all. Three roe deers just having a nice morning.
I do know however that I will drink a big pot of tea very soon and I might watch some tv while I’m drinking it. I still have that extra channel for free and still without any sound ๐ but comedies with subtitles work anyway. The rest of what they show is pure crap though so I don’t watch that channel especially much anyway ๐
It is time for that pot of tea and after that a nap perhaps. I will set the alarm though because I tend to sleep for way too long and when I do the entire weekend gets messed up.
Have a great day!
I turned on a radiator.
The day has been and still is rather cold and windy but the sun has shined almost all day so it has been bearable but not more.It seems to have been raining quite a lot during the night but nothing can really be seen in the creeks and there are no puddles around that would be great mosquito nurseries either. My water barrels however are full again.
It even got so cold and with high humidity yesterday that I turned on a radiator in the livingroom and I did close all windows too. If the wind calms down I can turn off the radiator again tomorrow and open up the windows too I think because they have changed the predictions to much nicer weather than they did just a day ago. We’ll get sunshine again and the temperature will rise to the high 16C (60,8F). It does look like all my plants survived the frost night the other day and without damages too ๐
I’m so tired today but I don’t know why, usually this cold weather does the opposite to me. I fell asleep in front of the tv as soon as we had come home from our walk ๐ If it hadn’t been for the flies annoying me I would most likely have been asleep yet ๐ I guess it could be because Nova has kept on waking me up at 4am every morning this week. I would most likely have woken up shortly after that time anyway but it is something else to be woken up with the help from someone else. Today however she didn’t, this time it was the alarm and that felt even worse ๐
It is time for another pot of tea and after that perhaps another walk, the weather isn’t inviting so it all depends on whether the dogs get impatient or not ๐
Have a great day!
Downhill from now on.
Just as nice weather today as yesterday, lots of sunshine, just enough warm and a nice breeze to keep us cool while being in the sunshine. From now on it will go downhill with the weather. It will get cooler, almost cold if the predictions are right (which I doubt since they rarely are) and we might get rain. Farmers might want rain but I’m quite happy without it, just think of all the time I save on lawn mowing ๐
I woke up before the sun rose today (which by the way was at 4:05 am) but since it is very bright long before the sun rise we went out on our morning walk. It was almost as chilly as yesterday but a worn down fleece jacket was just enough to keep me warm. Lots of birds flew around but most other animals seemed to rather take it easy a few more minutes. I could hear the ravens argue again and today I know why, crows have moved in on their area. They truly don’t like each other.
Ravens are much bigger and stronger than crows but crows are faster and more agile in the air so it looks like they manage to drive off the ravens and they are not happy about it. I’m pretty sure the ravens will get the place back because they often hang out in groups of several generations and as soon as the older ones can leave their nests the crows will be history. Nice to see them here for a while though, I like our crows.
It is our National day today but very few know why we celebrate it, to be honest we haven’t had a national day for especially long, today used to be the Swedish Flag Day. What we are celebrating is that on June sixth 1523 Gustav Vasa became our king. He was a tyrant that happily slaughtered the ones that had helped him to power, he also was the one making sure the first son of the ruling king would be the king to come. He had three (official) sons who all were more or less insane and all became king of this country. The oldest one for instance Eric 14, married his concubine and he was later imprisoned by his brothers and poisoned with arsenic put in his pea soup. His wife and children were moved to Finland but alive and not allowed to everย claim the crown.
The second reason is that we in 1809 got a new constitution which gave the king less power and the parliament more. The first reason is just stupid to celebrate since he was anything but a pleasant ruler but the second is a good reason but nothing we go out and celebrates on the streets ๐ They are trying to make this day to something big. like in Norway or the USA but most of us just enjoy the weather if it is nice ๐ The ones truly celebrating this day are either the extreme rightย or immigrants, an odd combination ๐
It is time for a pot of tea and after that another walk I think, it is still rather cool outside so most flies are still waiting to get warm enough to fly around to annoy us all ๐
Have a great day!
I could feel the difference when I opened the door.
I really hate to complain when we actually get warm summer weather as we have so far but it was just too warm yesterday, we Swedes aren’t used to have temperatures up to 31C (87,8F). Normally our summers are cool and rainy, so the weather we just had was a dream come true for us ๐ I think I would have liked it better if I hadn’t been working beside a huge oven and a huge washing machine that pours out steam that fills the entire place where I work ๐
I could feel the difference in the air as soon as I opened the kitchen door (it will cool down to only 21C (69,8F) today, normal summer temperatures ๐ ), the air was cool, almost chilly and even felt a bit humid, it is around 50% so it is actually a bit low and will drop even more later during the day. One weather site says we might get a few drops of rain another says we won’t. I don’t long for rain because it is now so dry in the ground that the lawn doesn’t grow and that I like ๐ Also, all puddles and most small creeks are now bone dry so that means fewer mosquitos and hopefully fewer biting flies too ๐ I’m not sure farmers like it this dry though but at the moment I really don’t care ๐
I have four long strips of sticky fly paper hanging from the ceiling and two of them are full of flies and has to be changed today, they were filled during four days. The first biting ones have arrived too, oh the joy. They are all very early this year so I hope their season ends early too. It would be nice if they actually were gone by the time my vacation starts but I guess that would be to hope for too much ๐
It is time to make a pot of tea and something to eat as well. We were up already at 4:20 this morning and went out not long after that. The sky was and still is a bit cloudy but we could see the sun rise since the clouds were rather thin, so after the tea I think I’ll take a short nap ๐
Have a great day!
I’m not freezing anyway :-)
We’re just about to break 31C (87,8F) and I’m so glad I’m not at work ๐ It is very different to take the heat here at home when the humidity is as low as it is (22%) than it ia at work where the huge washing machine just vomits out steam and the temperature is even higher ๐ I didn’t stay long at work though, I left already at 10am today.
I had an appointment at my optician at 11:10 and it takes a while to drive. To my very big luck they called for me much earlier than my appointment so I left before I should have been there ๐ My eyes have changed very little and they said I really didn’t need new glasses for that reason but I thought it best anyway. The powder paint is like sand and every time I clean them they make tiny scratches in the hardened plastic as I think they make almost all glasses from now days.
It wasn’t until I was driving homewards I realised that all schools have their last day today, I saw carriages where students already had gathered around and they were just about to be driven around the town. Must be pretty adventures since Falkรถping is all hills and slopes ๐ I got out just in time before it all started, on,y god knows how long it would have taken if I had gotten caught in that traffic ๐
I stopped by the grocery store in Gudhem on my way home and the owner gave me a small Tamarind tree. I’ve always wanted to sow one myself but one never knows how well those seeds germinate. She had sown this one six months ago and I think I’ll have a good chance on keeping it alive. No bigger problems if we’ll get a warm summer but the indoors air is usually too dry for most plants growing in hotter regions and we just have too little daylight during winter but I’ll do what I can.
I bought two ginger roots which were organically grown and I’ll plant one and place it outdoors all summer, the other one I’ll eat ๐ I also bought two small Fuchsia plants and hope I’ll be able to keep them happy on the north side of my cottage. Fuchsia’s grow best on chilly and rainy summers but even if I really would like to see these growing big I still rather have a warm and sunny ๐
This is the last day with this kind of heat, tomorrow will be much cooler but still summer warm. Now it is time to give us all something to eat and after that I’ll slowly melt away somewhere where there’s no sunshine ๐
Have a great day!
It’ll be a lazy day.
According to the weather sites it is raining here right now but as far as I can see through the windows it doesn’t. Showers are of course always hard to predict, it might in fact rain on the other side of my cottage without me knowing it. It is a fairly warm morning with a brisk breeze and high humidity and it could have been rather nice if the humidity had been lower. The more the day passes by the better the weather will be and the lower humidity will be as well.
We walked down to the creek this morning and there was this rather big raptor up in the sky, normally they never come especially close but I was lucky today. I now know it is a Kite and I think it is a Red Kite which is rather rare here in Sweden. I did see a deer too and some Greylag geeseย but that was it when it comes to wildlife this morning. Of course I saw lots of small birds but they didn’t come close enough so I at least could try to identify them. I did however find lots of wildlife in Sune’s fur when we came home, I had to pick several ticks and I got all of them before they had bitten. They are now all dead ๐
I’m now taking the chance or risk that we won’t get any more frosty nights here so I am placing all the remaining potted plants I have in the cottage in the patio instead. The roof seems to make the place rather frost safe, unless it drops down to -7C (19,4F) or lower which isn’t unusual the last frost night here. It is like nature wants to show that we never can relax totally and just shows of that last frosty night ๐ So today I’ll take out the three passionfruit vines, the Lime tree and the last pelargonium. It is amazing how much more light I have in my home now ๐
I still have the last laundry to do but besides from that I’ll most likely have a lazy day today. I might start sowing some vegetables but then I need to weed the last part of my vegetable patch and the weather isn’t that nice yet. I’ll see if I do it later when the humidity is much lower. It will be a warm week ahead of us so I’m thinking of mostly making salads to bring to work. Like chicken salad one day, pork the other (much the same as the chicken one, I just put pork in it instead ๐ ) and so on.
It is time to start with the laundry though and after that a pot of tea ๐
Have a great day!
It’ll only take seven years or so.
We don’t have any sunshine but it is fairly warm and low humidity makes it feel even better. The weak wind just makes it more pleasant so I really can’t complain today. Well it would be about the flies then but to be honest, they aren’t as many as I feared. I guess I can thank the draught we’ve had for a while now. Living in a boggy area means the ground never really dries out too bad.
I was thinking that I would start chopping down my lilac hedge as soon as the flowers starts to wither but I can’t do that. I don’t know how many birds nests there are in there but one is enough for me to wait until Autumn comes and all small birds have flown away. One nest is so close to my gate that every time I walk out of my garden the chicks starts to scream for food ๐ I do hope it is too hard for my cats to reach it, Teodor is the one most interested in hunting birds but he is just too fat to even come close to the nest and I hope Bertil doesn’t care. He is however a master in hunting mice and voles and those I don’t care if he takes.
There’s this one cow that is very pregnant in the cow pasture right now. She has been standing still at the same spot all day looking miserable. She did walk a bit to get some fresh grass to eat but it is very easy to see where the calf is ๐ I’m pretty sure we’ll have a new calf in the pasture by tomorrow morning.
Today was a perfect day to mow the lawn and by the sound of it many neighbors thought the same thing. The more trees and bushes I plant the faster I mow the lawn ๐ My plan is to have so many bushes that I just have paths going around the entire garden so mowing will take even shorter time. The only problem with that is the cord since I have an electric mower. It will most likely get caught here and there but I see that as a minor problem.
I have two kinds of grape vines in my garden and they are amongst the hardiest and most pest resistant one can find. One is the American Frost grape (Vitis riparia) and the other the Asian Amur grape (Vitis amurensis). I have a problem with my frost grape though, it only produces male flowers so I never get any grapes but this year the amur grape flowers too so I have high hopes of at least get a few grapes this year ๐ I have sown more frost grape seeds though and if they germinate it’ll take around seven years until I get any flowers on those new vines ๐
I also found a small pot that I sowed something two years ago and two small plants are growing in it now, the problem is that the name tag is gone ๐ I’m not quite sure what is growing ๐ It might be a service berry but it could be something completely else too ๐ I’ll know when it is bigger I hope ๐ Do You remember when I told You two peonies had germinated and started to grow? One is dead and the other one doesn’t look too good, I’m afraid one of the cats walked on it but it is still green so I still have a tiny hope it will survive. If this had happened when it was two years old it would have survived but they are very vulnerableย the first summer.
I think it is time to make some frozen yoghurt, I think I have some vanilla yoghurt in the fridge. Perhaps I should make some kind of dinner first though but I’m not really hungry.
Have a great day!
I need more space for my trees :-)
It was quite pleasant outside this morning, around ย 8C (46,4F) and the birds sang as loud as they could. What is quite pleasant in the morning isn’t necessarily pleasant in the afternoon, it wasn’t much warmer when I came home from work. The clouds cover the sky but they are so thin here and there that the sun can shine through them every now and again. When it does wearing a fleece jacket is too much.
It is even more dry in the ground now after the thunder showers than it was before. So there isn’t especially many flies in the forest right now but down by the creek it was on the way to become nasty, they always want to look how my ears and nostrils look from inside and I really don’t like that ๐ The good thing was that they refused to leave that area so as soon as we walked away from the creek we were fly free.
I thought I would grow melons this year so I bought the hardiest kind I could find. We call it Mango melon but I found the English name Vine peach. The instructions say to prune them heavily otherwise they will take over totally. On the net I found that they will taste best if one preserve them in syrup, they don’t taste a lot raw but then again can be used as a sweet cucumber instead ๐ I sowed a lot of seeds just to be sure I would at least get one plant, I now have at least ten growing in my kitchen window and more seeds are germinating ๐
I still haven’t figured out where I’ll plant my tiny hazelnut bushes, they will grow big soon enough so I better find the right places from the start. They now grow in pots so I can think of this all summer before I need to plant them because I also have to think about where I want to try the Shagbark hickory ๐ I really need to become rich so I can buy more land to plant all my trees ๐
It is time to feed all the animals and perhaps myself too. I bought some grilled chicken on my way home today, I’ll see if I can make something tasty with it or if I’ll wait until tomorrow to have it. It is odd, it doesn’t cost more to buy a grilled chicken than anย ungrilled?!
Have a great day!
Guess if I got surprised!
Summer has returned for an afternoon but that was something I really couldn’t believe this morning when I went ou to the cat to get something I had forgotten. There was ice all over the car! I had just woken up and was so tired that I didn’t go inside again to bring the camera ๐ It was -2C (28,4F) as coldest this morning. I have to admit it surprised me quite a lot ๐
It must have been during a very short time though because my tomato plants looks just as good as they did before. None of the weather sites had predicted this or even come anywhere near that low temperature, they all predicted 8C (46,4F). I wonder if I could have forced them to get me new tomato plants if they had died ๐ No idea to sue anything in this country, if one would win the best one can hope for is a “Good for You” and a tap on the shoulder. If one lose however one must pay the winners legal fees and all the rest.
Lots of flowers that really shouldn’t flower yet flowers out there in the nature. It is odd to see all the flowers in bloom that shouldn’t flower at the same time ๐ It isn’t that strange to be honest, spring sprung already in early March here, can’t remember if that ever has happened here during my lifetime.
It is time to make something to eat and I’ll take the risk of having a cup of tea too. I’ll keep the kitchen door open for a while longer, the dogs loves to run in and out chasing each other ๐
Have a great day!
It’ll be hot!
I must admit that I never thought this day would be as nice as it has and still is. Not much sunshine but warm and a just enough cool wind to make it even more pleasant. The morning was warm enough but the humidity made me sweat like a pig, I was stupid enough to wear a fleece jacket, it is so worn that it gives very little warmth to be honest but it still was too much.
I did the laundry and everything dried within an hour. It’s almost a pity I didn’t have more when we have this weather ๐ ๐ I put the potatoes in the vegetable garden while the laundry was drying and noticed that the sand closest to the flowerbed beside was bone dry, no wonder my rhubarbs grow so bad there. So I watered the vegetable garden and also those flowerbeds where I sowed annuals this early spring. Lots of them are showing already so a bit more water doesn’t hurt.
I’ll bring out all my tree tomatoes (Tamarillo) and Naranjilla plants too today, tomorrow might become one of the warmest days ever in May, they predict that it’ll be 27C (80,6F) here! ( the record is actually 32,5C (90,5F set in 1892) That is a temperature we rarely reach during hot summers here ๐ It’ll be a joy to work in the factory beside the huge oven and washing machine ๐ ๐ The combination of nasty high humidity and temperature is nothing I look forward too.
I saw that my tomato plants have tiny tomatoes growing on them now ๐ I still have those plants in too small pots but I don’t have enough soil at home to replant them, I better remember that tomorrow on my way home from work. I must also remember to buy sticky fly papers, yes it is the season of those little beauties ๐ The forest flies are already here to annoy me but still not that many that I feel the need to bring my mosquito hat. Lots of butterflies, bumblebees and the first big dragonfly or as we call them Troll Spindles. No hornets yet though, I do like those friendly giants.
I doubt that I’ll write anything tomorrow if it gets as hot as they predict, my brain will be fried and I’ll most likely be dehydrated no matter how much water I drink at work tomorrow. It’ll cool down a degree or so by Tuesday though so if You don’t see anything here tomorrow You’ll most likely find something on Tuesday.
It is time to make a big pot of tea and after that I’ll start to bring out all the plants, it’ll be empty in my windows tonight ๐
Have a great day!
The ticks are thriving.
ย
High humidity, cloudy sky and warmish isn’t that nice to be walking in to be honest, it is the high humidity that sort of dampens the joy of being out walking. The weak wind there is doesn’t help much but the humidity has already sunken quite dramatically so it does feel better when sitting here in the kitchen with the door open. The clouds are thick but every now and again there’s a tiny rip in them allowing the sunshine to hit the ground for a few seconds at a time.
No rain is predicted for today so the grass might get a chance to dry up and I a chance to mow it. They predict some sunshine for tomorrow though so I guess I’ll get the chance then if I can’t do it today. To be honest, the predictions change just as much as always so it might end up with a hurricane instead ๐ I won’t complain too much as long as we don’t get frosty nights, I’ve started to bring plants outside for the summer so frosty nights are a no-no from now on.
We walked in some high and wet grass this morning and that is tick paradise. I picked over twenty crawling ticks from both dogs and a few that already was sitting there drinking blood. Nast creatures and they aren’t even especially popular amongst animals as food. Most birds avoid them so it seems they are here on this planet top spread diseases and death. I guess that’s important for nature too, there would be too many animals around otherwise but I still can’t pretend to think ticks are something we really need ๐
The worlds biggest half marathon takes placeย today in my old home town. ย 64 000 people have signed up to participate! I did it once and that was quite enough for me ๐ They have a good weather to run that far today, not too hot or too cold. There is always some people who do this that really shouldn’t and heart attacks aren’t uncommon amongst them. Even worse are damaged knees or other joints though. The Beekeeper usually run but I did see his car here this morning so perhaps he doesn’t this year.
It is time for a pot of tea before I do anything else today. Suneย ย is sleeping on the kitchen stairs, there’s some sunlight hitting it at the moment andย Nova does the same in the living room, I would like to do the same but I know I’ll sleep for too long so I think I’ll skip it ๐
Have a great day!
There’s something special with early summer rain.
There is something special with early summer rain, it sort of brings out all the smells and scents there is and make the day better even if it is grey and dull. We’ve had that kind of rain today and it was so nice to be out walking after work even if it rained quite a lot in the beginning. The birds loved it because they sang even higher than usual. The sheep however wasn’t happy at all, they just stood there looking on the ground rather miserable ๐
I had to pick up two packages today and naturally they weren’t shipped to the same place ๐ One package was to be fetched in Falkรถping and I really dread the traffic there on Fridays. It is odd, the town is really small but the traffic is just as bad as it is in our big cities ๐ I also needed to buy more ink to my printer but that store is of course placed in the other side of the town ๐ I was however lucky both times with finding a parking space and that is quite an achievement since all parking is free there.
I thought it had rained quite a lot today, it looked that way when watching it but I guess the raindrops were small because the ground is just as dry as before just beneath the surface. So I guess I still can hope for a mass death amongst the fly larvae ๐ Too late for the same when it comes to mosquitos, we have plenty already and several attacked me in the forest today. I get immune towards the itching rather fast thankfully so mosquitos don’t disturb me that much to be hones even though that annoying sound they make tends to drive me slightly mad ๐
I’ll have at least one Shagbark hickory growing here soon, I saw that one of the nuts now has cracked and a root is looking out ๐ I wouldn’t mind if the five or six other nuts do the same even though I only can have one in my garden. Well that is if the climate continues to give us short winters. They really don’t need to be warm but they do need to be short. The Black Walnut is slowly opening up its leafs and it is now almost six years old and perhaps 140cm (56 inches) high ๐ I feel that I might have a few trees that will grow a bit too high for my garden but at the time they will be that big I’m most likely dead and gone anyway ๐
I have had a few more rolls of film developed and I’ll start shoving those photos today even if I haven’t shown all from the previous time, the last ones from then are not especially good anyway to be honest ๐ Today You’ll see photos taken with the Agfa Ambi Silette but later on there will be photos from other cameras too.
It is time to get something to eat, the animals got their food for oven an hour ago. Nova is a bit picky with what she eats so now I’ll try another kind and if she likes it we’ll continue with that one. Today she of course ate it with joy but that was only because it was something new ๐
Have a great day!
Every second day weather.
Summer is back for a day and will be gone tomorrow. The predictions for the weekend have varied so much that anything can happen. They haven’t predicted snow so I wouldn’t be surprised if that is what we’ll get ๐
Yesterday I brought a shovel to work and started digging in one of the forgotten gardens that belongs to the factory. I dug up four small hazelnut bushes, well bush is perhaps a bit much to call them yet but they will be one day. ย I did of course ask the factory owner first ๐ I still haven’t planted them because I don’t know exactly where I want them to grow, after all they will stay there for many years to come. So at the moment they are standing in plastic bags on the north side of my cottage.
He told me that on his property there are some trees he can’t identify, not even those working on the university can figure out what they are. It seems that a previous owner had an arboretum with lots of unusual trees. Unfortunately my boss didn’t know that and cut several of them down. Lucky enough some have spread to the forest which he also owns so not all trees are lost. By the way, do anyone of You know about a conifer with short needles that when cut gets bright orange wood? It fades a lot when it dries though. The bark is light in color and smooth.
I’ll go to his forest one day and take photos of the trees which are unidentified so I can show photos too. I have a few things myself that I can’t identify either because the magpies have taken all the signs ๐ย
It is time to get something to eat and then I’ll watch some tv. I’ll also try and find the mosquito nets so I can have the kitchen door open for a longer time every evening, the mosquitoes are getting plenty now and I have already gotten the first bites.
Have a great day!
It can be so easy some times.
Summer returned today but it will be gone by tomorrow again. It will however show on Thursday just to be gone on Friday ๐ The weekend might be like summer again but they say one thing on tv and it sais one thing on the net, both predictions are made from the same company ๐
I got a phone call at work today and at first I thought it was a telemarketer but the number looked odd for that, so I answered. It turns out it was a person from the department who decides about my sewer. She was in the neighborhood when they called her and said she should go to me, too bad they forgot to tell me though ๐ She just wanted an explanation on where I was planning on letting the water from the shower, dishwashing and shower out. So I guided her via the phone to the place.
Naturally I thought something would turn up making things problematic, the previous one was like that. Guess if I got surprised when she said “Just great”! Excellent! I said that I did wonder why they had to go to my place one more time since they already had been here and she wondered the same ๐ So now she’ll send me a letter telling me that I have to change the system I have and as soon as the letter arrives I have two years to start with the change. If only all officials had been that easy to talk to! By the way, I’ll let that water out where I have my vegetable garden, my sandy soil is always dry so the water will do miracles because I don’t always remember to water ๐
It is time to make something to eat and I think I’ll dare to make some tea too ๐ The kitchen door is open and I think it already is time to put up the mosquito nets again, I killed my first one yesterday evening ๐
Have a great day!
It is finally over for this year :-)
We’re having much the same weather here today as we had yesterday, no wind and perhaps a tiny bit warmer though. I have to admit that it’s quite nice even if I would prefer sunshine and warm weather. We haven’t gotten that much rain as they predicted though so we might still get a reasonable fly free summer ๐ I’ll get tired of it soon enough though.
I watched The Eurovision Song Contest yesterday night and it was quite ok. They had changed how they presented the votes this year. There are jutยดry groups in every country, people mostly working in the music business and then there’s the televoting. Both parts give the exacts same amount of votes but since they add together all televotes to one vote per song it looks much more when they present the televoting.
Australia won the jury group votes and it looked like nothing would be able to stop them from winning. The Russians won the televoting hugely but since they didn’t get that many votes from the Jury groups they “only” came third. The one winning it all when both groups were added were Ukraine! I just can’t understand how they could win, I’m sorry Ukraine but I just can’t ๐ Australia cameย second and we Swedes ended up as fifth. Now it’s finally over for this time but it’ll start all over again as soon as we pass in to 2017 ๐ I’ll post the top three songs at the bottom of this post.
ย I think it is time for a short nap and after that we’ll take another walk.
Have a great day!
One might not like the Russian song but he sure had the best show of them all.
I hear it in the distance.
The day has so far been rather lovely, sunny and rather warm with a cool breeze. I can however see the cold front coming and it begins with thunder clouds. We were out walking when I heard the first rumbling sounds. We didn’t hurry home though because at that moment the sky still was almost clear blue.
I had hopes of mowing the lawn today but the rumbling sounds grew bigger and the thunderclouds too so I think I’ll skip that today. There’s something with thunder and electric lawn mowers that sort of don’t go together if You understand how I mean ๐ The thunderstorm doesn’t move fast though so I will have an hour or two more before it moves in to my neighborhood. It might even miss us totally, the mountain has a tendency to get the thunder instead.
I now have a rubber tube in the air leaking tire. It turned out to be the rim that wasn’t good enough. We could see small bubbles when we (well it sounds as if I actually did something, it was the garage owner of course :-)) put the tire in water. I do hope that the rest of the tires stay filled with air now, I am a bit tired to have to fill them up twice a week ๐
My car is leaking a bit too much oil now, not on the ground but inside the motor. So I asked the garage owner if he possibly had another car for sale at the moment. Ok it is no panic to change car, I really like this one but it is no use in repairing it any longer. He didn’t have any right now but he will keep his eyes open, preferable a SAAB but I’m not picky. It would however be nice to not have to buy new rims every time I buy a new car ๐
It is time to get something to eat, both for me and the dogs. Better do it before the thunder hits, if it does. It will be hard to meet the cold weather tomorrow now when it has been so warm and nice.
Have a great day!
This is one of those rare days.
This is one of those rareย days when it is just too good weather to stay indoors in front of a computer. These days usually only come when it is early in spring or summer or the season we call presummer (yes one word as we would do it in Swedish ๐ ).
It isn’t as nice to be in the factory warm days like this but I refuse to complain since it will be just as nice after work. I had the bedroom window open for the first time last night, I love nature but there’s this one bird that I wouldn’t mind if the hawk took ๐ It has two tones and it used those tones all night and loud too ๐
Have a great day!
Another fantastic day :-)
‘It is warm today, it went above 21C (69,8F) already at 10 am and it looks like it will continue to rise for yet some time, yesterday we reached 24C (75,2F) and that was a few degrees higher than predicted. There’s no wind at the moment either so it feels warmer than it is. I’m enjoying it to the fullest, this might be the summer we’ll get this year. Last summer started much the same and after that it was mostly cool and rainy.
I wore a fleece jacket when we went out this morning and it turned out to be too much. I didn’t regret it though because we walked through lots of bushes and god knows how many ticks that might have been in them ๐ I have to say though that I haven’t picked that many ticks from either dog, Nova prefers to walk in open spaces where there are no bushes and the grass is low. Sune he takes his baths and I think that rinseย away some of the ticks that are in his fur.
I’ve done almost all the laundry already, I still have the working t-shirt left to do though. I really can’t wash it with any other clothes, the powder paint that still is in the t-shirt has a habit to stuck on the rest of the clothes instead. It is very easy to brush off but still annoys me. The rest of the laundry is now hanging on the patio to dry.
One problem when summer start this early is to keep calm in placing more sensitive plants outside too early. We can and often do get frost here the first week in June but already now nights are warm (Scandinavian warm that is). I would like to have my tomato plants, the two I have, outside already now. I can of course bring them indoors if they threaten us with frosty nights but the pots will be rather heavy to carry and I’m not sure covering them will be enough.
I also have several Tamarillos which need both bigger pots and more light. I know that when the are acclimated to an outside life they will manage to survive down to at least 0C (32F). I once had one growing in a south heading window when I lived in Gothenburg. It grew really large and even gave me fruit but I tossed it away since it really smalls rather nasty if touched and for some reason one does that every time no matter how careful one is ๐
The plants that I really! want to get outside though are the Naranjilla (Solanum quitoense). It too can take low temperatures since it likes to grow on heights above 1500 meter ( 4921 feet) above the ocean. The problem with them are the thorns. Nasty sharp that goes straight through the skin and are impossible to get out again ๐ It has those thorns both on the stems and the leafs ๐ I’ve heard the fruit is delicious so I just had to try and grow it, no matter how thorny it is ๐
It is time for a pot of tea and then a walk again. We better enjoy this weather as long as it lasts because already next Saturday they all predict much cooler and rainier weather again.
Have a great day!
