They’ll be out there on Saturdays.

They didn’t arrive today, the film rolls. I was at the web site yesterday evening and checked the status on when they were supposed to get them but it just said uncertain. So I did like I think it was Beatrice said, checked eBay. Our eBay is called Tradera (it’s an eBay company) and last time I checked they didn’t have any film rolls there but yesterday they had (a photo shop close to our capital had an ad there) so I ordered the one brand they had and they only had two five film roll packages in stock. So now they only have one package left. They’ll send them as soon as they have the money. So now I know that I’ll have them next week, probably on Tuesday.

Bertil now dislikes me more than ever. He has a tendency to walk in front of me and suddenly just stop. Normally I can avoid him but I have told him that one day I'll kick him on his back by mistake if he continues like that. Today it happened. I didn't even know he was in front of me when he stopped and I stepped on his tail and kicked him with my other foot. No injuries but on his ego but now he won't come close to me :-)

We’re having a rather wonderful autumn day here. lots of sunshine and just enough warm to walk around in a thin sweater or just a t-shirt. We walked down to the creek today, it has been some time since we were there. I don’t mind the mosquitoes but I do hate the moose flies, I don’t know what repel moose flies but I tried a very effective mosquitos spray that also keeps horse flies away. The only problem with it is that if I use it too often I’ll get eczema. Anyhow, it seems to have worked on the moose flies too, only one landed on my head and it lifted rather quickly 🙂 I’ll try it next time we walk in to the forest again, tomorrow that is 🙂

They are merging two different hunting teams here now and today I was lucky to meet the new hunting leader. He wanted to make sure I knew there would be new people around (I guess they know I might toss them out otherwise since I do dislike poaching 🙂 ) and he also informed me that after the moose hunt, which starts October 13th, they’ll only hunt on Saturdays. Mostly they’ll try to hunt wild hogs. He also informed me that most of them are up early so from now on I won’t go into the forest on Saturday mornings, I don’t want to disturb them and they don’t want to shoot me 🙂 They will also put up signs on all roads if they are out there with their rifles, something I’ve wanted for a long time.

It’s time to make a pot of tea and something to eat both for me and all the animals. Nova will also get her last pill against her ear infection, something I think she will like 🙂 They have helped though and she is in a much better mood now and behaves like a puppy sometimes, runs around like crazy and just has fun 🙂

They have put up new gates, that era easy to pass while walking to keep poachers out.

    Hi Christer,
Poor Bertil, but it’s his own damn fault. He does look very annoyed, though.
Piki Dog does that, too. I’ve stepped on him in the dark a couple of times.

Your hunters are so much more polite (or regulated) than ours. No way in hell ours would be letting anyone know when they were going to be out nor would they be putting up signs to tell us they were in there. We are just supposed to know what animal is in season, assume that someone will be shooting at it and stay the hell out of their way. If it moves, they shoot. It’s their Constitutional right.
By the way, how does that fence stop a poacher? They could just walk around it.

The rain has finally stopped. The sun was out for a bit right after it rose but then it hit the cloud deck and now it’s dull again. It’s a bit cool. My heat came on last night and again early this morning.
Piki Dog was having a wonderful time rolling on the grass under an oak tree this morning. As we walked away, I saw that his white fur was all tan. I don’t know what he intended to roll in but he also covered himself in smashed, partly rotted, soaking wet acorn mush. I knew his first stop after coming in the door would be to jump all over the white throw on the couch so I carried him from the door right to the bathtub and scrubbed him down. He was not pleased. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Enjoy the day.

    • Hi Caryn!

He sure was angry with me that stupid cat 🙂 Why oin earth do they have to do like that 🙂 I always stumble on Orvar but that’s just because I can’t see him in the dark and he always sleep where one must walk on him to get passed 🙂

Most likely more regulated but hopefully polite too 🙂 But I guess it doesn’t loomk good when they start toshootthe vilagers either 🙂 The fence stop their cars and the poachers are actually people belonging to nearby hunting groups, they “tend to forget” where they are allowed to hunt. Otherwise poaching is rare here thankfully. The animals they hunt here are just too big to be able to carry away, they do need their cars.

Could Piki Dog be related to Sune? he jumped down into the muddy creek and got stuck in the mud for a while 🙂 🙂 🙂 He doesn’t apreciate to be washed either, strange really since he loves to get wet any other time 🙂 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

Possibly. They don’t mind getting wet and filthy. They do apparently mind getting wet and clean. Oh, Piki Dog was rolling in a pile of deer scat as well as acorn mush. I checked when we went for our afternoon walk. Fresh deer scat everywhere in that area. We’ll be walking a different way for a bit, I think. 🙂

🙂 Perhaps that’s why they are so good friends 🙂

Hi Christer! Maybe you should wear blaze orange on your walks in case the hunters are around! So dangerous! 🙂 Poor Bertil! Poor Salmiak! Its funny how cats can certainly show their emotion through their eyes and facial expression. We get Salmiak’s look all the time from our Manx, Abbey. She’s famous for giving us her “angry Manx look”. I do hope you get your order sooner rather than later! Nothing worse than waiting for something you really would like or need. We are rainy, weather warning for the wind today (80 kms/hour) and maybe wet snow. That’s just not fun at all. Have a happy Friday evening!!!

    October 3, 2014 at 4:18 pm

    • Hi Dianna!

I used to but I lost that jacket. Too bad because I could walk outside in -30 and still feel almost too warm in it 🙂 But since they now will put out signs as soon as anyone of them is out hunting I’ll know when to avoid the forest.

Both Salmiak and Bertil sure shows their temper, all the time 🙂

I know I’ll get this second order early next week but I have absolutely no idea at all when that first order will come 🙂 🙂

It will stay calm and warm here for some time with the eventual rainfall now and again, no snow in the nearest future thank god 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  4. I wish the hunters were that courteous here, they are not, you take your life in your hands when walking in the forest even on your own land, here in our area. I am so glad Nova is feeling better, I was wondering how the medicine was doing, it must be so uncomfortable to have sore ears when you are a cat or dog, our old rabbit had ear mites and it was very nasty, poor Bertril but you did warn him, cats certainly can hold a grudge!!

    October 3, 2014 at 9:49 pm

    • Hi Laurie!

I’m pretty sure the ones that only leases hunting grounds and live far away are less courteous even though most of those that I’ve met only been very polite. Now days very few, if any are drunk. Back in the days hunting season also meant drinking until the brain melted and then out hunting. Only a few hunters get shot by their friends every year now and very few get shot that isn’t a hunter. Back in the days they shot at anything even if the person wore bright orange and had a huge bell that sounded a lot.

She’s much better in her ear now but I guess it’s just a matter of time until it all starts again, her ear i sbuilt to get infections they say at the vet station.

Bertil has no one to blame but himself but he sure blames me 🙂

      Have a great day!

    Hi Christer –

A bit disappointing about the film not coming today, but early next week will be here before you know it. Glad you found some more rolls on Tradera. Like I had told you they have all kinds of the 120 film on Ebay here. I had thought of sending you some, but the extra postage would likely undo any savings in the cost of the film. But if you later are looking for a particular brand or type of film that you cannot find, I would be happy to buy & mail some to you.
Now you are on Bertils sh– list for stepping on his tail & falling over him. He must be wondering why you were so mean to him since he has no idea it was an accident he caused. I hate that when they suddenly decide to stop. They must think we humans are as agile as cats and can quickly go around them. Now both Bertil & Salmiak are giving evil stares. No wonder those 2 are friends. Bertil did look sweet in that photo of him asleep, but I’m sure that was the exception 🙂 I have never owned a grumpy cat. When you get a kitten you never know what your going to end up with personality wise. I enjoyed my mancat Cosmo’s company the most. He was a very social & easy going cat. He loved to mingle at parties & sit in a chair to watch card games. He also was the only cat I ever owned who would respond to questions directed at him with a loud meow as he threw his head back & then nodded in the affirmative whereas a “No” was a kind of grunt. I tested his accuracy many times by asking questions he had never been asked & he always got the answers right. He was very smart.
Nice of the hunter’s to let you know when your best chance of being shot was:) Staying out of the woods on Saturday sounds like a very good idea. Hope they don’t run into that giant bore you saw a while back. Our trees are yellowing the way yours are. I always enjoy the photos looking up the creek with all the birch tree canopy reflected in the water. Any sign of beaver activity lately? I though Halloween was celebrated on October 31st, no matter where you live. If a country wants to celebrate it somehow, why bother to celebrate on a date different than the traditional day? Boy, Sweds really do need to work on how to go about celebrating holidays to where they are fun & have more festivals & create some new traditions of their own. I was surprised that Halloween is becoming more popular in the UK and they do it on the same date we do. When I was a kid I went to Catholic school and we always had the day after Halloween off from school because it is All Souls Day which is a holy day. We would go down to the bus stop where all the public school kids were waiting for the bus and call them “suckers” and taunt them because they had to go to school. I remember we had candy cigarettes hanging out our mouths because those were popular treats in the 1960’s. We thought we looked very cool taking pretend puffs and blowing out smoke because the air was so cold you could see your breath. It made for very good special effects. I think they stopped making candy cigarettes shortly after than when it was thought that the candy cigarettes led kids to smoking the real thing later on. I hate to say it, but they were fun at the time.

    Have a great weekend.

    October 3, 2014 at 10:23 pm

    • Hi Ellen!

Yes a bit and I would have loved if next week could take its time to arrive and thge weekend to stay a bit longer 🙂 but at least now I know I can start taking photos next weekend. I want to do it when the daylight is as strong as possible since these cameras are known for being hard to see through the seeker if it is getting a bit dark.

Good to know there are ways to get film if I can’t find any here. Now I’ll get five color film rolls next week and five more is ordered and one black and white film roll will arrive with these last five too. I guess they must come within a month anyway, after all they do have an order to fix now, mine 🙂

I just can’t understand why hye must walk just in front of me, most of the times he doesn’t even want to be remotely close. I doubt that he has learned anything though, this was all my fault and any time this happens again will be my fault too. But he is the cutest of cats when he’s asleep, I’ll give him that 🙂 I once had a cat like Yours, her name was Mafalda. She didn’t even get as big as Bertil, which is a tiny cat and loved to sit on my shoulders to watch the world.

All the hunters are after that giant bore now when they know how big it is! I hope that he’s smart enough to just ignore the hunting dogs and stay low when they are out after him. He is so magnificent that I think he deserves to die of old age.

Halloween is still very small here. Sweden has been a more or less 100% Lutheran protestant country until after WW2 so anything not Lutheran Protestant has always been looked down at 🙂 The Church of Sweden asked if people that celebrated Halloween could do it any other day just because of all Souls day, or as we call it all saints day. It seems all stores accepted that but they couldn’t agree on what date they wanted as Halloween. They also want it on a weekend because it isn’t a holiday here and people must be able to go to work the day after if it should happen on a week day. So that’s why there’s so much confusion 🙂

I do remember those candy cigarettes, I thgink they stopped selling them here in the early seventies. There were the licorace ones and the chocolate ones, none of them tasted especially good though 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.

  6. Ha! Bertil would hate it in my house. I don’t usually trip over the cats but Blue has knocked me down as I walk UP the steps because he steps on the back of my shoes! My cats are always climbing all over me and I’m tossing them about. I’m not throwing them, just picking them up and letting them to the floor, although I do shove them off the table and counter-tops…and yet them immediately jump back!
I’m glad you talked with the hunter. Good to know to stay away on Saturdays!
Sorry to read about your film roll problems. Things like that can be so maddening!
Sounds like it’s warmer there than here! Last night it was 45 degrees. I’m not sure what the temp is this morning but it feels cold!
    Take care!

    October 4, 2014 at 1:02 pm

    • Hi Cindi!

He would go insane if he wasn’t allowed to go outside and he’s bad enough as it is 🙂 He is regularily tossed out of the cottage since he can be truly nasty and I mean tossed, not a gently push here 🙂

It’s always good to know who they are and when they will be around. I really don’t want to disturb them while they are hunting and they really don’t want to shoot me 🙂

I knew it might take some time for those film rolls to come but I still hoped they would come within a week. No problems, I’ll get the other film rolls soon anyway 🙂

Summer warm here today and it is sooooooo nice 🙂

      Have a great day!
      Christer.
